I've heard a few songs from those EPs but not the EPs themselves! Giving the Hatchie song a listen now, quite a nice smooth-flowing guitar piece!

Hatchie was a great discovery from this year- “Sure” was probably my favourite from the EP too!

Looking forward to this, you're bound to have included a lot of tracks that I've overlooked, and as ever, I'm intrigued to find out what your absolute favourites were.

Giving Egg and Soldiers a listen now because I really liked Wriggle - definitely quite different but I can see it growing! Slow Burn is a nice piece as well.

The ones from this list I've heard:

Palo Santo
A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships
Marble Skies (I have that album on marbled vinyl)
Wide Awake
Love Is Dead

I like them all.

Favourite album so far would have to be Jon Hopkins! “Emerald Rush” clearly the highlight but the whole thing is wonderful really. Also great to see Django Django, Mitski and Parquet Courts here. I finally got properly into Parquet Courts this year after years of trying. I think “Total Football” and “Freebird II” were my favourites.

*.* Cosmo's stuff is so weird and whimsical, it's a sound you don't hear often

#20 Oh Sees "Smote Reverser"
another solid sees record, even if it's not as all-around strong as their last three. very grateful for this crazed band and their restlessness though
faves: Overthrown, Sentient Oona, C

#19 Hampshire & Foat "The Honeybear"
i am at one with nature, i am the man of the woods
faves: Call of the Forest, Winter Bound, Honey Dreams

#18 Fickle Friends "You Are Someone Else"
slick, high gloss indie pop from this lot who finally got an album out after about ten single releases!
faves: Hello Hello, Say No More, Glue, Bite

#17 Christine And The Queens "Chris"
chris~ this girl sounds great on just about anything *.*
faves: Doesn't matter, Girlfriend, Comme Si, 5 Dollars

#16 Daniel Avery "Song For Alpha"
a slight left turn after his breakthrough record, to these icy cold industrial beats, still a lovely listen
faves: Projector, Slow Fade, Diminuendo

#15 Kids See Ghosts "Kids See Ghosts"
an absolute triumph for both artists, rattling through a number of memorable tracks in just 25 minutes. highlights include Cudi's humming on Reborn, and Kanye channeling Big Shaq
faves: Freeee, Feel The Love, Reborn

#14 U.S. Girls "In a Poem Unlimited"
fantastically lush and jazzy production this, probably what it'd sound like if Kylie went political art pop
faves: Rosebud, Incidental Boogie, Velvet 4 Sale, M.A.H.

#13 Poppy "Am I A Girl?"
^ we might never know the answer to that but we do know that Poppy delivered the best batch of slightly-detached but infectious bubblegum tracks this year
faves: Play Destroy, Aristocrat, Iconic, Hard Feelings

#12 Zeal & Ardor "Stranger Fruit"
a heavy, brutal blues rock/metal sound, delicious
faves: Servants, Don't You Dare, Row Row, You Ain't Coming Back

#11 SOPHIE "Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-Insides"
'Product' was one of my favourites from a few years ago, it was great to hear that bubblegum bass sound expanded here in mind bending ways. a fabulous evolution *.*
faves: Faceshopping, Immaterial, Ponyboy, It's Okay to Cry

GOLDEN HOUR YAAAAAAAS wub.gif What a bloody album. Slow Burn and High Horse are definitely my top 2 too.

A few great albums here actually, SOPHIE/Rae/Tove/TOP/Poppy esepcially!

I've heard quite a few Fickle Friends singles (I'm assuming they're all on the album?), a band with lots of potential!

#10 Confidence Man "Confident Music For Confident People"
this oddball Australian band delivered a treat with their LCD Soundsystem-esque nu disco grooves and playful tracks. no serious thought required, give it a spin~
faves: Boyfriend, Don't You Know I'm In a Band, Bubblegum, Try Your Luck

#9 Troye Sivan "Bloom"
Blue Neighbourhood was solid but Bloom felt like a big step up, a more concise record with each song properly hitting the mark, whether it be the spicier danceable cuts like the title track, to the melancholic and sensual on Animal or Seventeen
faves: Bloom, The Good Side, My My My, Animal

#8 Superorganism "Superorganism"
This cryptic group caught my ear last year with tracks like Something For Your M.I.N.D, and this debut record is a straightforward showcase of their unique, glitchy indie pop sound. really interested to see how they follow this up!
faves: Everybody Wants To Be Famous, Something For Your M.I.N.D., It's All Good, Night Time

#7 Idles "Joy As An Act Of Resistance"
another helping of biting and passionate punk rock from this rising band, refreshing to hear performances this intense and the tunes are top notch!
faves: Danny Nedelko, Colossus, Samaritans, Love Song

#6 Kero Kero Bonito "Time 'n' Place"
Bonito Generation was so brimmed with bubbly-to-the-point-of-parody pop that you'd be hard pressed to take it any further. Thus they immediately pivot to this edgier, rockier sound, while keeping that twee pop core that made them essential <3
faves: Only Acting, Make Believe, Dear Future Self, Flyway
