I am really liking the very clean graphics here buuuut if I may be annoying and demand extra labour from you would it be at all possible for you to dump the votes in PM form as well at some point after these results finish? Just to double check there weren't any errors when converting from the text votes to the graphics (+ to avoid this thread being completely useless to look back on some time in the future if this image hosting site nukes its entire archives which does occasionally happen )

Halfway through I've still only voted for 3 of the current top 10 (and none of the top 5) so I fear this is just going to be one of those out of touch months for me eep!

Rooting for Bronzil the most out of the current top 5 as that was the only one that's even a commiseration for me (not that I dislike the rest, I actually didn't particularly dislike anything in this final maybe Eastovka but they just didn't really make that much of an impression)

Well congrats to Roba on yet another win - unfortunately this is another one I have to throw on the 'don't really get it' pile personally, not a bad song by any means but I don't quite see what stands out about it enough to have been a runaway winner, where was this for 'Perfectly Untrue' etc. I do like it more than Madison Rose at least though

I do want to have a scan through the PMs whenever Oliver has a chance to post them to make sure the full scoreboard is definitely correct before commenting on the rest (I do trust it will be but you never know x) but oh my at a Jadaphonia tie if that is correct (only the second one ever x)

Although I actually wish I had lost said tie because that would give me an elusive 30th place which is one of the very few unique positions I am missing, as it were I am instead 29th for the 5th time

Amazing top five, well done all!

Summericia is a great winner, they are definitely the best country of the last 18 months for me by a mile. Three winners in nine months and none of them sound very similar, Roba has a real knack for picking extremely competitive songs from different genres. RontBet heard a winner and called it.

Skall is a really good track - a former Summericia artist no less, Hendinia of course with their traditional third place (and a FAB pop song).

Really cool to see Bronzil up there and Dandy again too! Very unusual for me to vote for the whole top five.

Extremely happy and very surprised to be 6th as my song wasn't talked up as being in the mix, so I really didn't expect such a good result. 263 points is awesome for it.

I would have loved to have seen Altyr and Cadelicia higher but they both scored really well.

Ah well last place is a new position for me! Lowest ever final position (obvs) but actually not my lowest points total so that's nice at least, thanks voters! Lots of my faves flopping (rly expected more rallying support around Scotland 2) but I'm glad Fljotavik made top 5, plus Kath + Jupiter top 10 is very deserved. 30th is... better than last month! but a bit bored of finishing in the 30s now so will maybe try and find something that may appeal a bit more next month, especially as I'd quite like to match my personal best Q streak. I am very happy that it is as long as it is right now!

Congrats to Rob on the win I did hope for a winner that I'd pointed and that's what I got elsewhere in the top 10 I also voted for: Skall, Bronzil, Jupiterdonia and Kathaldazia <3 I would've liked to have seen Bøtanikkä up there as well but top 15 is still good, especially as it had quite a slow start.

Certainly can't argue with a landslide like that and it was just outside my votes, not quite Nabihah Iqbal but a lot better than Madison Rose x Didn't expect Skall to be as high as 2nd, but I quite liked that one too. Most of the top 10 was my small points or songs just missed but all pretty solid and pleased to see Kathaldazia up there, and great to see Singerpurear, Scotland 2 and St. Burbia in the top 20.

Ugh, ONE POSITION OFF that elusive 25th place?! I mean I'll take the extra two points, but you're just all messing with me now but I'm very pleased that storytelling folk continues to have an unexpected niche on here (and oh wow, I scraped through that semi a bit! Some little tidbits:

• Kathaldazia were already near 30 points in the lead after 5 votes in semi-final two, having received two 12s, two 10s and an 8!
• Summericia were 16 minutes away from a 33.3% deduction and therefore falling to 10th in the final, having submitted their votes at 23:44pm last night!

In good company with almost all of the other songs making the top 10 that I voted for and then Singerpurear and Botanikka outside + Aeroche who were a commiseration along with Lotunia. Kinda feel a bit guilty as I would have been behind a Skall win there but fab for 'Planet Pleasure' finisihing in the top 2 with myself as one I charted last year and came back to debating on last month or two as a potential again!

Oops at St Burbia and Cadelicia underperforming there though but glad they were at least top 20 still. I did predict off site on Facebook I could see Scotland coming realistically around 18-23 so glad to be correct there. Not surprised to see Wholune down in bottom 10 but it deserved to do better

Dipped down in the end to only voting for 2 of the top 10 and none of the top 7 whoops (although Kluminican Republic were very close to my votes), can't always be agreeing with the hivemind I suppose. Actually a whole half of the top 10 were in my own bottom 15 oops! I had Summericia ranked 28th, FSR Rontvia 30th (though interesting to see this one being a silent dark horse, it's one that I felt should have connected with me more than it did but just never quite clicked unforch), Lotunia 32nd, Hendinia 35th and Skall 36th (a rare entry from them that just didn't do it for me at all, though I do totally get its popularity as it's very Charli XCX). So at least Summericia was the right winner out of the top 3 for me

I am very pleasantly surprised that the most successful song from my votes was actually my 18 though, I'm such a predictable sucker for anything post-punk adjacent and Jupiterdonia's entry really scratched that itch perfectly for me so fantastic to see that up as high as 8th and getting quite a handful of other 18s. And then my other vote in the top 10 was my 11 for Kathaldazia but no surprise at that one being up there - this is Kathaldazia's 6th top 10 hit in a row, have to wonder if the very long standing record for most consecutive top 10 hits is in danger as it just seems too effortless for them of late! (The record to this day remains Mdiče with a run of 9 top 10s in BJSCs 10-18, with the closest challenge being FARC getting 8 in a row in BJSCs 107-114, so it's still a little way off but rooting for it to be taken down especially if Kath keeps up these megabangers).

A couple more of my big favourites a little outside the top 10 too from Singerpurear (one of my favourite ever retro hit entries) and Bøtanikkä (I guess I was right about this one being a bit too niche to contend to repeat Vandal Moon's UP win, but top 15 is still good), and 3 more of my votes in the lower top 20 - apologies that I overhyped Trance Wax a bit, I suppose top 20 is still better than a lot of host entries do but I did think this sounded quite in line with a couple of Kathaldazia's recent big hits oops, quite shocked it ended up being the less successful of the AQs! Scotland 2 in the top 20 is great to see but remarkable to note just how much it ended up being treated like a 'normal' entry considering how very not normal a song it is, I was expecting it to be a very extreme case of high points or nothing but actually ended up with a very even distribution of scores, it had only the 9th highest average points per voter out of this final!

Would definitely have liked to see Jadakissnia and Land of DW a fair bit higher and Pestolia in no way deserved to be last x More fun stats for anyone who reads these rambly posts from me: 118 points is the new 2nd highest ever for a last placer, though still a way behind the 133 points N-Lazone came last with in BJSC 74 - i.e. the first ever contest in the current format (semi-finals + 18 point system final), a really strange quirk that the first running of that format produced such a freak result that has still never come particularly close to being replicated since! Until now the 2nd highest was only 112 (Hendinia in BJSC 116).

I had developed some delusions of Deadlands maybe being another top 20 hit for me so I find myself just a teensy bit underwhelmed by 29th but at the end of the day it's still a rather niche genre entry which spends half of the song just screaming at the top of its lungs which was obviously never going to be everyone's cup of tea so I should take avoiding the bottom 10 and be happy with it very nice to have got a pair of 18s and points from a couple of countries who haven't voted for one of my entries for a long time! And looks like I kind of fluked into the final considering I only qualified by 3 points and that included 10 from Zanmatony which dropped to 0 in the final...! (I was thinking I remembered Wardy seeming to enjoy it during the semi-final listenthrough so I wonder what happened, whoops). I did go the other way though with Lotunia going from 0 to 9, and picked up mealworms from Thelonia and Trifoski who also gave it 0 in the semi, so a bit of a wash overall. I did definitely improve on my projected position though so turns out I was maybe kind of right about semi 1 being better for me after all, although that may just come down solely to Aelandor & Séyetana. x

Congrats Rob, I continue to be in awe of your consistent success! Pleased to see three of my faves in the top 5 (moistbreezy, SVEA and ACRAZE) and Kluminican Republic in 7th, 'Aurora' was the song I was most frustrated about not having room for in my votes, so I'm relieved that it did well anyway.

'Loverboy' and 'Lovergirl' so close to finishing next to each other on the scoreboard *_*

Glad my 18 and 15 points were enough to keep Ultraviolenceland and Sandenia out of the bottom 10, although I would've preferred them to finish in the top half of course.

And I had to stop following results just as my points drought was starting, good timing to avoid watching my gradual descent down the scoreboard...but 20th is amazing for a song I sat on for over a year, way above and beyond my expectations for it. My first top 20 in 9 contests (which coincidentally I was also 20th) and resuming my upward trajectory of results this year (long story short, I've had my 'best result of the year so far' 6 of the last 8 contests )

Great job hosting, Oliver, I loved the graphics too!

Well done Rob, a worthy winner and it helps make up for Lucia not winning last time Perfectly Untrue still awesome, and I very nearly entered Burning Castles (but went retro for a change of pace) so very glad you did enter it! 3 winners inside 12 months is pretty consistent Fab hosting Oliver, and thanks voters, great to see Department S almost make the top 10 there, poor Vaughan Toulouse died far too young (of AIDS) and they came over like an early Smiths-vibe on Is Vic There. Many congrats Rob! I don't remember the song at all oops but that's a convincing winning margin. Summericia's imperial phase rolls on~

Pretty exciting relegation dogfight there with the bottom 7 all within 9 points. Quit a lot of mealworm votes for Dobago it seems this time. And not by any means a semi scrape through either, in fact I would still have narrowly qualified even with a full deduction!

My top 2 in the top 10 is pleasing to see, both levels clear of the rest.

And a big hand to Oliver for the very aesthetically pleasing reveal.

Omg what a relief...I literally gave up after first 10 sets of votes or so and I convinced myself that I will be in the bottom but thanks to you that didn't happen. Thank you everyone seriously for all of your votes...receiving 19 from Jade and Lewis was super amazing so thank you.

Congrats to Roba, I felt it that it's going to win whoever was going to send it but kudos to you for being so consistent.

One more fun stat, the record for all time most top 10 hits has been going back and forth a bit this year - Aeroche briefly overtook FSR Rontvia after BJSC 151 but this month FSR have taken the lead again (66 to 65)!

Hendinia very slightly close the gap to Kathaldazia (to within 100 points), FSR Rontvia also climb back up to 3rd but only barely holding off Summericia whose latest win pushes them up 8-4, not to be written off as an EOY #1 contender still (although they'd most likely need the top 2 to falter at least once in the last two contests of the year). Altyr Muunilinst fall 3-5 despite their top 15 finish this month. Cumulonimbia, Aeroche, Jadakissnia and Lotunia all hold their places in the top 10 while Cor Lupus flop down 5-8, proving once again that they are the floppiest nation to ever exist.

Me being on a satisfying 1,111 points but falling a place, swapping with Terra Avium. Still clinging onto the top 20 for dear life.

If anyone can pull a landslide winner out of the bag at the end of the year to suddenly contend, it's Summericia. Watch out Kath and RobBot.

There are three or four countries who are magnificent at constantly sending competitive entries, I've got imposter syndrome amongst Hendinia/Kath/Altyr up there. In 2009-2011 maybe it would have been more expected but we've been off the boil for such a long time.

Intriguing 'most top tens' tussle ongoing with Aeroche, I didn't realise it was so close.

Catching up fashionably late oops! Fantastic hosting job Oli Oli Olivurrr! Well done Roba on another big win! Not my kinda thing but I definitely can see the crossover appeal.

That's our 3rd semi final win to-date, yay! Interesting that neither of our winners this year (Geo22 or Snow Strippers) won their semis, but K, who came 3rd in the final, did. And now Delia who finishes 9th!

Thanks a lot to Dobbo and blacksquare for the 18s + Dandy, Jade, Addy and Lewis for the other medal points 'Tekknotrans' felt like a more bold and obscure entry for us, really happy with the response it got

Looking at how close that 2-10 section is, I feel like just 1 or 2 more big fans could've been the difference between finishing 2nd or 9th!?

I'm also happy to host. I know it's not really in the 'rules', but I used to host like 4/5 contests a year it felt like at one point when I was a mod (and hosts fell through), so it never goes away! Just know the offer is there

Yeah, to be clear, we’re currently discussing a switch up in rules to make this clearer going forward and ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Essentially what has happened is (we don’t need to disclose this but just for transparency’s sake as it has been a few days) - the winner has passed on it, the next in line has passed on it, and we’ve now asked the next line. However, we’re now also discussing how far down the scoreboard we go (of people who haven’t hosted before) before it starts to feel a bit meaningless.

I don’t think we’ll ever get volunteers to do it as a solution, as I think there should always be a rhyme or reason. It is appreciated that they’ve been made though just in case we were stuck in panic!

I'll be hosting the October Club Bizarre contest which would normally follow the October BJSC so I hope BJSC confirmations will start this week as it's not ideal if there's a big overlap between the two contests. I thought you would have got a bit further than asking two people by now. Roba told us as soon as he won 10 days ago that he wouldn't be able to host.

I do like the idea of having volunteers to host and have people vote on hosting bids tbf, but yes how far down the line should the hosting rights be awarded in case people pass would save time trying to sort everything out.

Maybe just put the confirmations thread up straight away for the next contest rather than doing a green room period as well, since a lot of discussion has gone on in here anyway, maybe take the break this month instead of December if the hosting duties really are that much of an issue, I think going down the top ten would be fine, not big on the volunteer idea as we've got spin offs and stuff for that anyway

The mods could put up a google form for confirmations now. If there are any vetoes, they could send out PMs until a host is found.

Either that or postpone the contest until November as Lindsey has suggested.

I can't decide on the dates for the Club Bizarre contest until I know what's happening with this one.

Still with the intention of getting this started in the next few days. I can feel the frustration here but I don’t want you thinking I’m just not doing anything out of laziness, I’m actually just on holiday for my anniversary which is taking priority

Whilst we all appreciate what you’re doing Rob, and don’t want to spoil your holiday, could you not have simply delegated to LexC or Silas to cover for you? It seems unfair to you to still be in this position during your personal time away. I’m not sure if Bré could have took over this search for you during your absence as it’s unreasonable to expect you to be checking your inbox for replies whilst you’re celebrating an occasion.

BJSC will be "off schedule" for no more than 2 weeks I imagine?? surely that's enough to make it back so you still get a bit of a gap in December and then start again earlier in January?

Lets say if the dates for this month was originally intended to be 8th - 14th Confirmations, 15th - 21st Semi's, 22nd - 28th Final and then the final contest of the year in November was 12th - 18th Confirmations, 19th - 25th Semi's, 26th - 2nd Dec Final.

You'd still probably find time to get those contests done with a week or so still to go for Christmas & you still get some of that Christmas break and start afresh in January?

The process usually works fine, however it is now getting to a point where most people have hosted already so it just happens to have been an issue this month. The mods are sorting it and also thinking about what this means for the process in future. I’m sure something will be resolved very soon.
