BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Buzzjack Reshuffle Chart: 2019 EOY

Welcome to my second reshuffle EOY (http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=218512), which hopefully this time I'll finish before May magic.gif My shape-defying (proto-hopscotch?) creation above features every reshuffle top 2 hit of 2019. (Billie's album cover counts for both 'bury a friend' and 'bad guy')

Just like last year, this is counted from the 52 reshuffle weeks based on the OCC charts revealed in 2019 - so that's from the OCC's W/C 04/01/2019 to W/C 27/12/2019, or in other words, the Christmas clearout week to the peak Christmas week.

Despite being a 10-years-old concept designed in a completely different (and likely more BJ-friendly) chart environment, 2019 was a pretty thriving year for the reshuffle chart! The first week of the year got a boost in voting numbers higher than any week of 2018, which I thought was just because of attention created by my 2018 EOY thread's opening, but then that boost just... never faded. Every week of 2019 got more voters than almost every week of 2018:


That gives 2019 a total of 1,393 votes (an average of 26.8 per week), up 42% from 2018's total of 979 (average 18.8). I can also confirm that 2019 got more votes in total than any year from 2009-2013 (but probably not 2014, and I don't know about 2015-2017... yet).

106 songs placed in the top 10 sometime during 2019, slightly up from 100 in 2018 - though literally 30% of them are 1-weekers, ready to flood the mid-section of the world's only countdown where the least relevant songs land in the middle by default.

57 people voted during 2019, which is actually down from 69 in 2018, but 2019 had a lot more dedicated regulars - including as many as 7 who never missed a single week (and 4 very close calls) ohmy.gif 3 of those (Dircadirca, LewisGT and me) (and Dobbo bar an unlucky miss) also voted every week of 2018; that's over 100 weeks in a row.

I am surprised to see this land at the bottom! Even with Ed Sheeran's long history of reshuffle #10s, this has always felt to me like it would be one of his more agreeable songs, being, y'know, not a ballad. I think it helps that there weren't any long-running top 10 hits this year that were full-on hated, but it really did rack up a sea of low votes - 57% of all the votes it ever got were -3 or below, with only one dedicated fan to dole out the +5s:


As '2002' ranked at the bottom last year, this makes 2 years in a row of Ed Sheeran-involved songs taking the anti-crown. I expect 'Perfect' or 'Shape Of You' would've been the one for 2017, too.

Of course, Lewis Capaldi's extreme longevity makes it easy for him to place this low, even though he's never really done that poorly on the reshuffle chart, with enough consistent high voters (shoutout to WhoOdyssey, who provided him with as many as 195 points across the year) to cancel out his consistent low voters. 'Someone You Loved', in particular, ranks #67 by average vote, only pushed this low by having 21 weeks for those mildly negative totals to rack up. Its longevity is also very visible in the list of voters in the OP, where 19 people have it as either their top or bottom song.

Not unlike Lewis Capaldi later, Tom Walker dusted off an aging track (I had it in mind as 2017 but it was in fact 2016) and turned it into a 2019 hit, though in Tom Walker's case he did re-record it, and sneakily renamed the original to '(Acoustic)'. Impressive that it's not the only 2016 song with a 2019 version in this list. Unfortunately neither version carried the... Rag'n'Bone Man Goes Electronic vibe of 'Leave A Light On' and its unsuccessful follow-up 'My Way', and perhaps Buzzjack would've preferred that too as 'Leave A Light On' got a better -0.77 average vote last year. It's worth noting that 'Leave A Light On' is still easily his biggest hit outside of the UK and Ireland.

I'm disappointed to see 'Beautiful People' this low as it's my favourite Ed Sheeran song since the 'Bloodstream' remix (possibly bar 'Castle On The Hill' which has suddenly grown on me after 3 years). It did almost dodge #10, at least - the week it made it was just on the unlucky side of a tie with MIST's 'So High'. Coincidentally, someone told me they assumed Joel Corry was a James Arthur type based on the name and no features, and if you saw him among the rest of the artists in this post you'd certainly think the same tongue.gif It's unusual to have a dance song this low, but barely anyone seemed to care for it. Not sure if that's due to any affinity for the Monsta Boy original as I'd never heard of it before.

No shock at my top song being 'Ladbroke Grove' ofc (although I must have given a higher average to 'Circles' right? thinking.gif but that wasn't top 10 for as long). 'Someone You Loved' doesn't really deserve to be last for me as I don't really hate it (although it is my least fave of Lewis' hits), that's just down to it refusing to ever leave! If only 'Dance Monkey' had a couple more 2019 top 10 weeks eh tongue.gif lol at it being either the top or bottom song for 6/7 of the people who voted every week. And snap stats with LewisGT, the taste xx

Wow at the graph of participation, great to see the number of voters this year being consistently higher than it was in 2018! (Well apart from that one week in July tongue.gif)

I think 'I Don't Care' is actually one of Ed's more agreeable songs - it's just that the agreed consensus is that it's extremely lazy and pointless laugh.gif it actually managing to be not only huge but still the biggest hit of the era is still slightly mystifying to me, feels like it should have... done more of a 'Yummy'. Lmao at how much of an outlier Dobbo is in those detailed stats, single-handedly providing 12 of its 13 +5s!!

'Hold Me While You Wait' remains Lewis' best song, a bit of a travesty that it ended up ranking below 'Someone You Loved' here - and over 100 points behind despite having 6 fewer top 10 weeks?? sad.gif 'Beautiful People' is good too and I have a small soft spot for 'Just You And I' although it's probably still heavily in the negatives in my voting stats for the year.

My dislike for Joel Corry is definitely in large part because I love the Monsta Boy original - it hurt my soul to see a garage classic reworked into something so painfully basic and rewarded so heavily.

^ You gave both 'Circles' and 'Cross Me' 46 points over 10 weeks, so they both have a slightly higher average for you. ('everything i wanted', 'HIGHEST IN THE ROOM' and four 1-week-charting +5s are even higher.) You managing to give 'Dance Monkey' 100% -5s across 13 weeks is honestly impressive tongue.gif No one else in 2019 did that (Mack. also has a -5 average for 'Dance Monkey' but with only 11 weeks voted, and likewise brokenrecords for 11 weeks of 'Just You And I'.)

I feel bad having 'Hold Me While You Wait' as my lowest because it's grown on me since tongue.gif I've realised through this that there aren't any long-running 2019 top 10 hits I especially dislike, which is nice compared to 2018's several horrors.

Oh I'm surprised at 'Cross Me' being on par with 'Ladbroke Grove'/'Circles' (which are easily my 2 favourite top 10 hits of the year), must have been less competition over its run I guess! Those two should really have +5 averages from me if I always voted on how much I like the songs overall (unless they had any weeks that they were both top 10, I forget) but I do try to give slightly more weight to more recent songs (i.e. songs currently in my personal chart) over those that have been hanging around for a while. 'Ladbroke Grove' managed to average so highly for me even though the vast majority (if not all?) of its top 10 run came after it had been and gone from my chart though!

I did come relatively close to boosting Tones to the dizzy heights of -4 in the week of LadBaby but ultimately couldn't quite bring myself to...

Absolutely lawling at that first set of results. I feel last year more than ever before my preferences were completely unaligned with the Buzzjack masses but to actually have my #1 song according to this metric finishing plum last is so unsurprisingly hilarious laugh.gif At last Riser chipped in with a sole +5!

Genuinely think a good majority of the bottom half I'll probably be the #1 fan of, definitely remember giving +5s to a lot of the unpopular one-weekers anyway.

Not a big fan of the rest of that bottom bracket but no way should Sorry be down there. One of the best dance hits of last year.

Not surprising to see all of those low down I suppose, now all are deserving though. I Don't Care has always seemed inoffensive at worst to me and Someone You Loved is brilliant! Longevity definitely working against that one.

Great to see this back this year!
No real surprises in that bottom 6. I missed slightly more weeks than I thought - if I'd voted every time I could have given Someone You Loved +102 points, but its scores held up reasonably well here considering how long it stuck around for - if anything, Hold Me While You Wait took the brunt.

'Take Me Back To London' is most notable to me for its absurd 3-x-x-14-10-11-1-1-1-1-1-13 official chart run; imagine stepping out of a time machine and trying to make sense of that. It started off better than 'I Don't Care' here but ended up becoming a #10 fixture anyway, and would've definitely placed below 'Beautiful People' if it had lasted an extra week. 'Take Me Back To London' and 'I Don't Care' are the only 2019 UK #1s that spent multiple weeks at #10 here ('Beautiful People', 'Someone You Loved' and LadBaby spent one week each).

Like 'Take Me Back To London', 'So High' only managed to get a single +5 across 7 weeks. They also both placed in people's top 3s only 8-9% of the time, the worst of any multi-week-charting songs in the list that don't involve Chris Brown. The other 'You're Makin' Me High'-sampling top 10 hit, Secondcity's 'I Wanna Feel', got 12 +5s in only 3 weeks back in 2014, so it's officially proven more popular. 'So High' then got hit so hard by ACR that it only ever spent one week between #12 and #40.

Though released in 2018, 'Wow.' was late enough in the year that it gets to entirely impact in 2019, and is by far the lowest of his 4 entries, understandably as I'd be surprised if it's anyone's favourite Post Malone song. It's easy to forget that Dave's 'Location' only debuted at #11, behind 'Disaster' and 'Streatham', as those both left the top 10 fast while 'Location' kept persisting... against my will, as it has to be the least interesting big 2019 hip hop hit to me; I wish 'Professor X' had been the top 10 hit instead. 'Location' might be his biggest hit in the real world now but 'Funky Friday' did considerably better on the reshuffle chart last year, with a -0.42 average vote and even a #3 peak once.

And then there's 'No Guidance' magic.gif Chris Brown was already a frequent #10 magnet early in the decade, and collective annoyance at him returning to the top 10 for the first time in years (outside of features) can only have exemplified that, but it's still impressive just how low its scores got. It was #10 by miles all 3 times, with the worst score of the last 2 years when it got -99 points in its 2nd week. It never got a single vote above +2, and 40% of all its votes were -5s. Only a certain Alexa John Legend prevents it from having the worst overall average vote in 2019 (the next worst is far ahead at -2.73). I found it average at first but I really like it now ph34r.gif

I guess I'll be seeing my name pop up as among the biggest fans for a lot of the rap songs, unsurprisingly tongue.gif there's 3 of them already. My average of just over +2 per week for 'Take Me Back To London' making me its second biggest fan though laugh.gif it's far from the best either artist can do but yeah, better than it's given credit for in Reshuffle as per with Ed.

'Location' is a good song but I really wish it wasn't Dave's biggest hit as it's one of his most shallow releases. 'Wow.'... yeah it isn't likely to be anyone's fave Post Malone song indeed, and it wore off on me relatively quickly after stanning it for a couple of weeks, but it is still pretty enjoyable now.

Only 5% positive votes for 'No Guidance' over 3 weeks and only one person giving it net positive points *_* very much deserved low position for that, it's not so much a really awful song as it is just an aggravatingly bland one that really did not need to be inexplicably Chris Brown's biggest hit for years. If we have to keep giving the guy hits could they at least be more interesting songs? (The follow-up single 'Heat' was a bit better though I'm not going to complain that it didn't blow up in the same way x)

Very mixed bag there. I'd put Wow as one of my personal faves from Posty. TMBTL was decent but could give or take it, love that chart run tho. So High was such a bland song.

I like No Guidance much more now than when it was in Reshuffle so feel like my name should be among the fans. Conversely, I absolutely cannot stand Location anymore, but it's peak hatred came long after it had departed the top 10 yet stuck around the lower positions like a virus.

Haha I noticed that as well. Gunna's verses are pretty much interchangeable on any song he features on anyway so it's on brand for him to appear on songs with basically the same title. ('Hot' >>>>> 'Heat' tho)

And oh really?? That's shocking indeed, it even got as high as #196 on UK Spotify! laugh.gif (I do recall that the album tracks from 'Indigo' made almost zero impact on the album release though).

Suprised that Ladbroke Grove is the song I gave the most points to as I would rank it as my least favourite AJ Tracey track that has reached the top 40. Just shows what a long top 10 run can do I guess.

It wouldn't be a Buzzjack list without Maroon 5 somewhere near the bottom tongue.gif Apart from 'Moves Like Jagger' (a multi-week reshuffle #1), all their top 10 hits in reshuffle history have ranked #10 at least once. I feel like 'Memories' actually did well for their standards; 'Girls Like You' in 2018 spent half its run at #10 and had a worse average of -1.75. ('Memories' is tied with 'No Guidance' but gets ranked higher due to having more +5s.)

Another Ed Sheeran song falls, with 'South Of The Border' having the best average of his 4 so far, so it'd probably be the highest even if their chart run lengths were even. Due to the 3-track rule preventing 'Remember The Name' and 'Antisocial', and I believe 'Feels' but only due to other songs being on ACR, from being top 10 hits, there's only one remaining song from the album, but it'll be a while before we reach it.

One of my favourite top 10 hits of 2019, 'Keisha & Becky' sits alongside 'No Guidance' as the only multi-week-charting songs to never rank above #10, but it did improve week by week, and landed only 1 point behind 'Location' on its final week. I want to say it was saved by its 3 main fans, but it's far enough ahead of #94 that they (we) didn't really make a difference (though without them its average would slip from -2.25 to -3.00). It first debuted at #19 and started falling like every other short-lived UK rap top 20 hit (feat. D-Block Europe), but the release of the remix (featuring Aitch, JAY1, Sav'O and Swarmz) catapulted it into the top 10, and not in the 'Take Me Back To London' sense of a remix providing some extra padding to the original; the 'Keisha & Becky' remix was far ahead on Spotify from the moment it came out, and remains on the chart while the original has long since disappeared. Unofficially, it should probably count as Aitch's first top 10 hit. Along Russ splash's journey of trying to figure out how to best disambiguate himself from the other Russ, he's gone from being 'Russ splash' on Spotify and 'RUSS (SPLASH)' on iTunes when 'Gun Lean' was out, to 'Russ splash' on both at the time of 'Keisha & Becky' (but just 'Russ' on YouTube and the single covers), to now becoming... 'RussMB'. I don't believe he's at any point considered changing the spelling to 'Rush' to match its pronunciation, presumably because I have exclusive rights on that.

Lewis Capaldi loses the 3rd of his long runners with his 2017 debut single 'Bruises', which had already built up sizeable Spotify plays before he had any chart hits and further spent many weeks in the top 100 earlier in 2019, but surprisingly there was still enough of an untapped audience for it to reach the top 10, without any relevant new versions. It probably helped that it was getting an international push on Today's Top Hits at the time, unlike 'Hold Me While You Wait' which never did. With a much shorter top 10 run, it probably would've outranked his first 2 appearances no matter what, but average-wise it lands between the 2.

And the one repeat artist in this batch is Tion Wayne, who I've barely ever heard of on his own, but helped both NSG and Russ splash get their biggest hits thinking.gif Maybe D-Block Europe should call him up to get themselves a top 10 hit. 'Options' looked like it might be an unlucky top 10 miss at first with a 12-11-11-12 run but eventually broke through, but not quite with the same fanfare as that time 'Elastic Heart' finally made the top 10.

And me not being in the top 3 haters of a Maroon 5 song either ohmy.gif A very non impaktful section there with me not being in the biggest fans or haters of any of the songs cool.gif Mostly makes sense as I am pretty ambivalent to most of those songs - 'Memories' is extremely sleep inducing but as with other recent M5 hits I'm not finding Adam Levine nearly as irritating as I used to so I'll take it over their earlier songs. Didn't realise that Maroon 5's run of Reshuffle #10s was pretty much rivalling Ed Sheeran's laugh.gif 'Moves Like Jagger' deserves the #10 more than nearly any of the others but ah well ~ and I don't really have anything against 'Keisha & Becky' but it's not a song I'd ever choose to listen to when the very similar but much better 'Gun Lean' exists (and I don't really care for most of the additional verses in the remix).

The saga of Russ' name changes has been quite amusing to watch but I'm glad he seems to have settled on 'RussMB' on all platforms now (except YouTube where he continues to be called just Russ, but as a consequence I believe all of his music is blocked on YouTube in the US laugh.gif)

They actually did release a new orchestral version of 'Bruises' for its re-push as a single but it was of course the original that continued to attract most of the sales and streams.

I'd forgotten just how slow-burning a hit 'Options' was, there may yet be an opportunity for 'Gangsta' by Darkoo to eventually go top 10 then as that's showing similar signs of slow-burning longevity... (albeit a bit further down the chart).

Impressively Aitch debuted straight into the top 10 with his first notable solo single 'Taste (Make It Shake)', and spent 4 weeks at #1 on Spotify but kept missing out on the official #1 due to 'Take Me Back To London's remix pulling it ahead. Apart from Lewis Capaldi's 2 longest runners, it received more +5s than any other song below #60 in this countdown.

'Rewrite The Stars' is the first 2018 carryover to appear, and a memento of the week where 2 James Arthur songs (the other one being Dalton Harris' 'The Power Of Love' X Factor winner's single featuring him) and 6ix9ine entered the top 10 at once. Without that competition, it was able to do worse in its 2019 weeks, actually lifting 'ZEZE' to #9 after it spent its first 6 weeks at #10, but then climbing back to #9 ahead of '18HUNNA'. It has the 4th worst average vote of 2019, ahead of 2 upcoming one-weekers and 'No Guidance'.

I'm still not sure what happened with 'Ransom' stalling then getting a sudden boost on https://kworb.net/spotify/track/1kBbgxAUc4HQv7cgIayIDH.html, but that carried it into the top 10 for a while and it did pretty well here for rap song standards. Arizona Zervas, meanwhile, came out of nowhere so fast that I first heard of him from Spotify tweeting that he was on Today's Top Hits and 'about to blow', which was both strange and suspicious as they usually wait until songs are at least slightly established before throwing them into the biggest playlist. https://twitter.com/ShadowTodd/status/1209563149894070272 Maybe 'ROXANNE' was already huge on TikTok though (whether or not that was just industry-planted). Unfortunately for it, it has since become the first reshuffle #10 of the new decade. 'Outnumbered' also... exists, and got a lot of mid-range votes. Only 2 weeks ago, in the shadows beneath the 'River' saga, Alexa also managed to push John Legend into the top 10 with his John Lennon cover, an 'Amazon original' tacked onto in the middle of a 'super deluxe' re-release of his 2018 Christmas album. Unlike 'River', which certainly had fans, John Legend managed to have the majority of his votes be -5s, and not a single one above +1. That week having a below-average amount of voters saved it from exceeding the -99 'No Guidance' scored in one of its weeks, but otherwise, it scored the lowest points of any week in the last 2 years. Average-wise, that score was easily the worst of the last 2 years, with -3.92 compared to -3.54 for 'No Guidance' at its worst, and -3.55 for 'Perfect' in the first week of 2018. (There are worse scores and averages in the deep archives though, the worst ones I currently know of being -129 for Enrique Iglesias' 'I'm A Freak' [with 39 voters] in March 2014, and a -4.63 average for 'Leeds, Leeds, Leeds (Marching On Together)' in May 2010.) Unlike 'River' which got a music video, John Legend's cover isn't even on YouTube, and the only place I could find to hear it without having Amazon Music (I'm not sure if it's even available in Australia if I wanted it) was the chart show replay, a level of restricted availability you never see anymore. By saying 'happy Christmas daddy & mommy' in the intro, John Legend's daughter Luna (at least I presume it's her) might be the first person born in the 2010s to have contributed vocals to a top 10 hit? I cannot say the song deserved better than this, though in fairness I think 'All Of Me' has ruined John Legend's voice for me forever (at least on ballads; I still love his 2008 single 'Green Light').

Otherwise we have a bunch of short-lived hip hop top 10 hits. 'Fashion Week' debuted ahead of 'Options' then fell to #10 when it dropped out, while 'Disaster' climbed to #9 when 'Location' entered. '18HUNNA' has the 3rd worst average vote of 2019, ahead of only 'No Guidance' and John Legend, seemingly not even managing to benefit much from the top 10 that week being full of aging songs. There is also Sam Smith who didn't inspire the same negativity as some of their older ballads, but not a lot of high votes either. The follow-up, on the other hand, is far ahead.

I remember that '18HUNNA' took a couple of weeks to properly click with me so I guess I'm not surprised that I didn't contribute to it positively in its one week in the top 10 but yeah, definitely deserved much better in retrospect, Headie One went on to be one of the most consistently good UK rap acts of 2019 for me. Made up for it with 'Audacity' I guess! Hooray for being the biggest fan of 'Disaster' and 'Fashion Week' at least to back up my 'UK rap hits defender' status x 'Ransom' is another song that had been and gone in my personal chart before it hit the top 10 in the UK but I see in this case I did manage to be in the top 3 fans anyway magic.gif That John Legend cover of 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)' was really painful to listen to (and I actually normally like John Legend...), I pray we don't end up seeing a repeat of Amazon smuggling such pointless garbage into the charts this Christmas.

A distinct 'meh' to most of the other songs in these two sections ('Dancing With A Stranger' is quite good tho).

By the way: my brain is finding it a little hard to understand what exactly you mean by 'total weekly points per voters'? The rankings for that statistic seem to be only very subtly different to the main rankings and I can't figure out where those numbers are coming from. Am I just dumb ~

^ It's the sum of the song's average scores from each week. Rush explains it (better than I could) in the first post after the OP of the 2018 Reshuffle EOY (link in this thread's OP). On this metric, I Don't Care finishes bottom with -22.24

Yep, correct. Admittedly though, the number of voters was consistent enough in 2019 that the difference is very minor throughout, so perhaps I could've done without them - I'm only including them because I'm following the same format as last year, where there was enough variance that I found them useful (for example 'All The Stars' being #11 by points but #4 by points per voters - though that can also be called into question, as the amount of voters in the catchup weeks it landed in were low enough that it may have just been inflated by luck).

They're also useful in the archives where significant variance exists over time, for example:

'On The Floor': average vote of +2.38, charted 8 weeks - but those weeks averaged only 14 voters each, so it got only 271 points
'Nobody To Love': average vote of +1.23, charted 6 weeks - and those weeks averaged 38 voters each, so it got 280 points (more than 'On The Floor' despite having half the average, and charting less weeks)

'Total weekly Points Per Voters' adjusts their totals to +19.16 and +7.38 respectively - from ranking #30 and #29 of ~2009-2014 by points, to ranking #11 and #63 by points per voters.

They're both just unlucky they were in the top 10 at the same time as Ariana because they both would have been my '+5' in literally any of the other weeks of the year. sad.gif

Stormzy's current UK #1 'Own It' is his first non-feature to appear, though the upcoming 'Lessons' (but not 'Audacity' or the other 2 proper singles) has a worse average.

'Strike A Pose' had an impressively long climb, reaching the top 10 in its 13th week of charting, possibly helped by Aitch leapfrogging it with his own solo hit. The title may have nothing to do with Madonna, but I think it spent longer in the top 40 than every Madonna song ever except '4 Minutes'. By average, it's Aitch's most popular top 10 hit, and definitely one of the better-rated UK rap hits of 2019.

The massive long-term success of 'SICKO MODE', probably one of the defining hip hop songs of the decade, only barely registered with reshuffle through a lucky top 10 debut, but it provided an easy platform for 'HIGHEST IN THE ROOM', his first (non-feature) new release since, to debut as high as #2 in the UK. I was surprised it didn't fare better here as I thought it would have wider appeal than most trap entries, although, despite my +5s, I don't think it's as great as the similarly-styled 'STARGAZING', let alone 'SICKO MODE', which did get a better placing and average when it charted.

'ZEZE' smashed out the #10s in its original 2018 run and it seemed like it was finished, but it got a surprise re-entry in the first week of 2019, by virtue of being one of the songs not yet on ACR in the transition week before the resets applied (like 'Lose You To Love Me' and 'This Is Real' this year). Due to being accompanied by 'Rewrite The Stars', it actually managed to hit #9 (by 4 points), and also received a +5 from someone other than me for the first time.

Khalid's only first-artist-credited top 10 hit so far is 'Talk', with sometimes-credited production from Disclosure. A shame because it's among his most boring singles to me (my favourite outside of features/collabs is 'Saved' from 2017, and from his more recent ones I really like 'Up All Night'). Few voters had high interest in it either.

Very true! Unless you count Madonna's 3 separate releases of Holiday which spent 21 weeks in the Top 40 combined (the same as 4 Minutes and one more than Strike A Pose).

For 3 weeks in a row in January/February, the #10 was a one-weeker that scored exactly -61 points; those 3 songs appear together here, with thankfully differing amounts of +5s to not require a deeper tiebreaker. Coincidentally I'm the only person who's a top voter for all 3, and I particularly love 'MIDDLE CHILD', which managed to coincide quality and timing enough to become easily his biggest chart hit, though it's far from having outsold his slow-burning classic 'No Role Modelz'.

Following 2 collabs on The Weeknd's 2018 EP, Gesaffelstein flipped around the credit roles with his own single 'Lost In The Fire', seemingly taking on the job of building upon the sound of 'Starboy' since The Weeknd wasn't really doing it himself (apart from 'Pray For Me', and now 'Blinding Lights'). Yet, it plummeted off the charts https://kworb.net/spotify/track/7wFybC8jBH3zE139OpCtpG.html that it already feels forgotten, likely in part due to the unfortunate tone-deaf lyrics, and the album did nothing despite a few more half-notable collabs (HAIM, Pharrell) and being, I thought, pretty good. (And no, there's not an issue with the image; the cover art is literally a black square laugh.gif)

Before 'Keisha & Becky', Russ( splash/MB) got 'Gun Lean' into the top 10, also helped by a remix being released that week. I think it was the first drill top 10 hit apart from 'Man's Not Hot' (if that counts). Despite being about a dance move, it doesn't seem like it was a big thing on TikTok. At the other end of the year, YouTuber/rapper KSI, who made the top 40 once back in 2015, managed to get 2 big features on board for a single released in tandem with his boxing match with Logan Paul (no idea of the backstory of that). It matched Chris Brown's 'New Flame' as Rick Ross' highest charter, which definitely deserves to be a trivia question.

And to have one song that isn't a one-week #10, there is 'Crown', with a mid-range run roughly mirroring its chart success.

LadBaby had a better reshuffle reception the second time around - both songs scored precisely -46 points, but 'I Love Sausage Rolls' did so with more voters, so it had a much better average (-1.77 vs. -2.56), and it ends up 3 places higher on the EOY than 'We Built This City' last year. 61% of its votes were either +5 or -5 and only 8% were between +2 and -2 (inclusive), which in both cases is the most/least of any song in 2019, either in total or in a single week.

'needy' feels to me like a song that only charted because of being early in the album tracklist, but it's still the 2nd most played non-single on the album on Spotify ('NASA' is a little ahead), so maybe it's warranted. Still, I would much sooner choose 'bloodline' or 'bad idea' to have charted over this very forgettable song, and it's easily Ariana's worst reshuffle performance within the last 2 years, with only 'Wow.' keeping it above #10.

Stormzy's 'Lessons' has the feat of being the only song in 2019 to never receive either a +5 or -5.

I completely forgot that 'Walk Me Home' made the UK top 10 until I was compiling this. It did only peak at #22 on the streaming chart, but even then, it feels hard to believe in 'retrospect' that it actually made it onto playlists teenagers would listen to, because it's the living embodiment of Hot AC, and when it came out it really sounded like a soundtrack single to me (like the follow-up to 'Just Like Fire'), not a proper serious lead single. I grew to like it but it goes without saying that P!nk has countless far better songs.

'Without Me' fell out of the top 10 in December 2018 due to ACR, and unlike 'Someone You Loved' & co. this year, it didn't manage to get a reset, but it still returned to #10 for 2 weeks while on ACR. It placed in slight positive points at #43 on the 2018 EOY, but degraded over time and ends up in negatives for 2019, and a slight negative total overall if you combined them. Ironically I was glad it re-entered because it took a while to grow on me, though I prefer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLNpAchiAXY. Then she completely blew it out of the water with her masterpiece 'Nightmare', which unfortunately the album sounds nothing like.

For the second year in a row, Kanye released an album under 30 minutes and got his quota of 3 tracks all in the UK top 20, 'Follow God' becoming his highest charter as the sole lead artist (i.e. excluding 'I Love It') since... 'Stronger' in 2007. 'Follow God' also must be one of the shortest UK top 10 hits (at least since the 1960s or so) at only 1:44 long; I'm never normally one to call songs too short, but in this case it really does feel like a fragment of a song to me. It narrowly dodged the reshuffle #10 ahead of 'South Of The Border', and scored a considerably better average than 'I Love It' in 2018 (which went 9-8-10-10-10-10).

J Hus' first major release since 2017 (outside of various features, a Daily Duppy session, etc), 'Must Be' instantly became his highest charter, but didn't stick around anywhere near as long as his older hits 'Did You See' and 'Bouff Daddy', though I prefer it.

Lizzo released 'Good As Hell' in March 2016, which I heard later that year after 'Phone' (probably still my favourite of hers), and it felt to me like it got solid non-chart traction at the time, but of course nothing compared to 2019. Similarly to Post Malone and Billie Eilish's large-scale breakthroughs dragging older songs of theirs into the Spotify top 200s, 'Good As Hell' began bubbling on the US Spotify chart in the wake of 'Truth Hurts', and rather than trying to force 'Juice' or other 2019 songs of hers that weren't connecting as well, they capitalised on 'Good As Hell' and turned it into a 3-years-belated hit. That was strengthened with the release of a remix featuring a blink-and-you'll-miss-it Ariana verse, which immediately replaced the original on major playlists and pushed the song into the UK top 10, which is why I credited the remix here (though I did specify you could vote for whichever version you prefer, if the versions differ that strongly for anyone anyway). It had about as average a performance as you could ask for.

A one-week UK rap top 10 hit that wasn't a debut, 'Buss Down' scraped there in between 3 weeks at #11, and scored about the same average as 'Taste (Make It Shake)'.

After reaching the top 10 for the first time in 2018, 'Step Into Christmas' did it again, and both times placed at #9 - in 2018 ahead of Bublι, in 2019 ahead of John Legend - with very few +5s or -5s. Its average is stronger this time but that might just be because John Legend sucked up more of people's negative points.

Liam Lynch - United States Of Whatever (#10, 2002) was even shorter than Follow God at 1:31 long (and that was long enough for it), but there definitely haven't been many other sub-1:45 Top 10 hits in the last 40-50 years or so.

Needless to add, I look forward to the next installment of this, whenever that will be.

'Post Malone' (song) making it this far is an achievement for Sam Feldt, as his remake of 'Show Me Love' (which I still think is very nice) managed to spend all 4 of its weeks at #10 in 2015, and placed at #110 (4th last) in the 2015 EOY. 'Post Malone' is only able to beat one Post Malone song ('Wow.'), with 3 more to come.

'Giant' is a considerable decline from 'One Kiss' and 'Promises' ranking #2 and #4 of 2018, even though 'Giant' managed to ACR-dodge its way into spending even longer in the top 10 than both of them (14 weeks as opposed to 12 each).

I don't even remember 'Streatham' but it's Dave's highest entry (ahead of '18HUNNA' at #81, 'Disaster' at #83 and 'Location' at #97), and not just by way of having less weeks to rack up negatives, as it has a better average than the others, even if you isolated 'Location' to its best week alone.

Although George Ezra's 'Hold My Girl' is nowhere near 'Paradise' and 'Shotgun' ranking #8 and #10 of 2018, 'Hold My Girl's #5 debut is the same way 'Shotgun' started in 2018, so if 'Hold My Girl' had charted for 300 weeks too, who knows? At least he's lucky that 'Hold My Girl' made the top 10, whereas, as far as this list is concerned, Freya Ridings' only hit in 2019 was... 'Lost Without You'.

Lewis Capaldi has both of his highest entries here (following 'Bruises' at #92, 'Someone You Loved' at #103 and 'Hold Me While You Wait' at #105, out of 106 songs). 'Grace' may have benefited from having only one week, but it deserves props for managing to get a slightly positive number of points in its first week, unlike 'Someone You Loved' and 'Hold Me...' which took many tries to scrape above zero for a couple weeks. Then 'Before You Go' managed to do even better, reaching #2 one week - and it's lucky the year cuts off there, as its long continued 2020 run would drag it down to... the equivalent of #89 in this list.

'Sunflower' had a slow start in 2018, but ended up scoring its best weeks 2 months into its run, enough for it to land far higher here than in its first year - which feels unusual to me; it's like 'Before You Go' in reverse. If you combined its points, it would be the equivalent of #73 in this list - or #77 in 2018, exactly even with 'Better Now' (but that's not a fair comparison as 'Sunflower' got more than twice as many votes overall).

For what seemed like a polarising (if not outright poorly-received) song (then again that's all their non ~pure pop~ singles isn't it), I'm pleased 'Bounce Back' made the top 40! It's a shame it had such a short life because I grew to really love it; it's easily in my top few songs in this list, and one of my favourite Little Mix songs. Interestingly, it came pretty close to 'Woman Like Me's 2018 #35 rank, despite 'Woman Like Me' having literally 9 times as many weeks to rack up points. Not only that, but when 'Break Up Song' hit the top 10 a few weeks ago, it actually scored firmly in the negatives (but I presume it would've done better if it wasn't competing with Dua Lipa x3 and The Weeknd and Doja Cat and Mabel and... 0 hip hop songs).

Ariana's 2018 holdover is narrowly beaten by 'Don't Call Me Angel', which managed to disappear from https://kworb.net/spotify/track/3NkJNL3WqO1Lqc3uNDxvCN.html in what felt like record-breaking time. She has a further 2 entries to come. Also not the biggest of longevity champions, 'ME!' landed around the middle in all 3 of its weeks, an interesting perspective shift because at the time it felt like an underperformance to me (particularly for landing well below a Stormzy song!), but now that the song's... reputation is set in stone, it almost seems like it did surprisingly well.

Back to Post Malone, with his only top 10 hit to date (not counting 'Post Malone') to spend less than 5 weeks there (and that's just 'Jackie Chan'; all his other top 10 hits as lead artist spent at least 8 weeks). 'Goodbyes' managed to outpeak most of those ('rockstar', 'Psycho', 'Better Now', 'Wow.') on reshuffle on debut, but had a more muted performance when it returned on the album release week. Then 4 weeks later, it vanished from the UK top 100, never to be seen again after 13 weeks between #5 and #23. Another one for the out-of-context record books.

Creeping towards the top 10 over the last few years, despite being a UK-only hit in a global streaming world, Wizzard made the top 10 for the first time in the digital era in 2019 and were duly rewarded with a #2 rank, just behind The Pogues (who are the only other 1-week song remaining).

Mabel's follow-up didn't come close to the numerous weeks at #1 of 'Don't Call Me Up', but did do much better than she since has with 'Boyfriend', which ranked #8 both weeks before its untimely departure.

One of Jax Jones' annual January top 10 hits, 'Play' did not reach the reshuffle #1 spot like its predecessors 'You Don't Know Me' and 'Breathe', but luckily for him (and us), he had something big on the way a few months later.

The Pogues manage to land at exactly the same spot as last year, despite charting for 2 weeks in 2018 and only 1 in 2019. Perhaps they benefited from being part of an almost entirely Christmas top 10 in 2019, whereas their 2018 weeks were shared with a few secular songs like 'Sweet But Psycho' and 'thank u, next'. Their 2019 performance was strong (and brief and well-timed) enough that 'Fairytale Of New York' ranks as the 4th highest average vote here, up from being the 15th highest in 2018.

'i'm so tired...' certainly feels like an odd reshuffle #1, but there was an empty week in between 'Don't Call Me Up' and 'bad guy' that something had to fill. 'Lose You To Love Me' feels like it went away fast for such a (surprisingly) strong debut (but not as fast as every other single from the album, whoops), but it did very well here in its time, though those weeks at #2 were miles behind 'Don't Start Now'. Then when it re-entered in the first week of 2020 (just because it wasn't on ACR while all the rebounding old hits had to wait to be reset), it ranked at #9.

Although every Sam Smith single lately seems to be a series of diminishing returns on the charts, 'How Do You Sleep?' ranks a good 56 spots ahead of 'Dancing With A Stranger' here. I just investigated and 'How Do You Sleep?' was in fact the first time Sam Smith ever made the reshuffle top 3 as lead artist - 'Like I Can' and 'Dancing With A Stranger' peaked at #4; 'Money On My Mind', 'Stay With Me' and 'I'm Not The Only One' peaked at #5; 'Writing's On The Wall' and 'Too Good At Goodbyes' never made it above #9; and the infamous chart murderer (?) 'Lay Me Down' was #10 every time. With collabs though, 'Promises' more than made up for it by being a reshuffle #1 and the EOY #4 of 2018, and 'La La La' also reached #3 for numerous weeks.

Mariah comes out slightly higher than last year with, in both years, the only Christmas song to spend 4 weeks in the top 10 - unlike 2017, where Wham! and The Pogues managed 4 weeks too. However, it hasn't been able to reach #1 like it did in 2016 and 2017 since then; in 2018, it got stuck behind The Pogues and Wham!, while in 2019, its 2 weeks at #3 were behind 'Don't Start Now' and 'everything i wanted'. In 2016 and 2017 it was able to surpass popular songs like 'Rockabye' and 'Anywhere' respectively, so I'm thinking it's more of a fatigue setting in (it certainly has been for me) - that or having more Christmas songs to split ~pro-Christmas~ votes with.

'Sucker' gave the Jonas Brothers their first top 10 hit as a collective and Portugal. The Man their 2nd and it managed to climb to #2 here, but the f**king w***rs of this site chose to instead give Mabel an undeserved 4th week. Pathetic. In retrospect I wish the lead single had been 'Only Human', which I unexpectedly came to really love, but which didn't have much of a chance to get high in the charts as a post-album single (except in the US thanks to radio), unlike the easy lead single hype of 'Sucker'.

Perhaps the reshuffle surprise story of 2019 was Ed Sheeran managing to put out a well-rated song! 'Cross Me' was his first song to make the reshuffle top 3 since... well, 'Galway Girl' and 'Shape Of You', but that was just in the 2 weeks where the top 10 had 9 Ed Sheeran songs. Otherwise, it was 'Thinking Out Loud', which oddly managed a week at #3 in November 2014 before sinking to #10 as its endless run continued. Well, I say 'oddly', but his unpopularity may not have yet set in at that point; 'The A Team', 'Lego House' and 'Don't' were reshuffle #2 hits, and 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You' made #1 - his only reshuffle #1 ever (apart from 'Galway Girl' in the 9/10 Ed Sheeran weeks). From 'Thinking Out Loud' to present, he's had 19 top 10 hits; 11 of them have ranked #10 at some point, and a further 5 were only 'saved' by being against other Ed Sheeran songs. That only leaves 'Bloodstream' (*.*) and 'Own It', which fell no lower than #8 - and the very special 'Cross Me', which spent all of its 10 weeks in the top 7. Congrats to it (and also to me for http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=228001&view=findpost&p=6374092 6 months ago so I could just read off that now). However, it did then immediately fall out of the top 100 forever, RIP in peace.

Marshmello has had an impressive reshuffle history - 'Silence' and 'FRIENDS' were multi-week #2s, 'Wolves' reached #3, and 'Happier'... reached #1 despite my best efforts (somehow he went directly from one of my favourite hits of 2018 to one of my least favourites). That continued with 'Here With Me', which even came suprisingly close to #1 - it was only 7-8 points behind 'bad guy' both weeks. Given how it feels swallowed up by Marshmello's bigger hits, it's probably more notable for giving CHVRCHES a chart hit, and perhaps their popularity here helped even though surely no one would consider it one of their best songs (stream 'Clearest Blue' for clear skin etc).

A very impressive success for a hip hop song on this chart, 'Vossi Bop' even came only 6 points away from 'bad guy' in its first week, and perhaps would've made #1 at the end had 'Seρorita' not come out the same week 'bad guy' went to ACR. There's a big jump in points there too; it's closer to #15 than it is to #22.

A lot of UK #1s in this section! 'Dance Monkey' had a very good start and was within 11 points of #1 in each of its first 4 weeks, though against some of the weaker #1s of the year ('Ride It' and 'Circles'). It was, as you'd probably expect, buoyed by many scores on both extremes; 16% of its votes were +5s and 15% were -5s, making it the only non-LadBaby song to be over 10% on both counts. ('Someone You Loved' is interestingly close with 9.5% and 17% respectively.) I also have a column in my spreadsheet for standard deviation of all weeks' votes put together, for whatever that's worth, and 'Dance Monkey' is the highest there of everything but a couple low 1-weekers ('I Love Sausage Rolls', 'Lights Up', 'Follow God'). It returned to the top 10 in 2020 and still didn't sink too far down, charting 6-7-6.

Ariana's 2 big 2019 hits come out practically tied, with just 2 points between them (and identical stats for +5s, -5s and positive votes!). They're so close that '7 rings' having an average of 28.4 voters per week while it charted, compared to 27.8 for 'break up', is enough to flip them around on the Points Per Voters numbers. The only real difference in their stats is that '7 rings' had more low-ish votes - 29% of its votes were from -3 to -5, which is slightly ahead of 'Dance Monkey' to be the most out of any song in the top 40. 'break up' evened that out with more mid-range votes; their high votes were about the same. Neither of them ever managed to reach the reshuffle #1 spot like 'thank u, next' narrowly did in 2018, but they did both come within 5 points of #1 once - on the same week. Additionally, 'thank u, next' was #18 on the 2018 EOY, so Ariana has occupied that spot 2 years in a row. No upcoming entries though, unlike 2018 where she was also #15 ('God is a woman') and #1 ('No Tears Left To Cry').

2019's second longest running top 10 hit (after 'Someone You Loved'), 'Old Town Road' never climbed above #3 yet showed remarkable persistence, never slipping below #6 and even returning to #3 in its 15th week. As such, it's the only song above #23 ('Cross Me') in this countdown that never made the top 2.

'everything i wanted' continued Billie's strong results here, even if 'Don't Start Now' prevented it from reaching #1 like its predecessors. Its run of course continued into 2020, where it accrued a further 208 points, so perhaps it'll be higher in the 2020 EOY. Combined, its points would be enough to be #4 in this list (#5 adjusting for numbers of voters).

Urgh a pretty shoddy top 15 there really, just goes to show how many bad top 10s there were last year (and that most of the best ones aren't well regarded on here).

Especially irked at Ladbroke Grove & Circles being so high. Both have so many better songs but those 2 being rewarded not only commercially but on Reshuffle? Nah, not for me.

Expect Kygo or Dua will win this.

'All Day And Night' was stuck bubbling outside the top 10 for weeks, but when it finally scraped in at #10, it truly made the most of it. It scored a massive 108 points in its first week - the only time any song surpassed 100 points in either 2018 or 2019, and the highest by average too. ('Physical' has since gotten as high as 112 points, but with quite a few more voters.) Not only that, but it had a literal 87-point lead over that week's #2, 'bad guy', no small competition as it had been #1 for the previous 7 weeks. It fell back to #11 again, returned for another strong week (albeit a bit less dominant than its first), then was whisked off to ACR, obviously halting its potential in this countdown but leaving its cumulative stats in pristine condition: altogether, it managed an incredible average vote of +3.39, and 96% of its votes were positive. Not only are those both easily the highest of 2019, they could possibly be the highest of all time - my archives are far from complete (it's a long term project lol) but from 2009 to mid-2014, nothing comes out as high. (Numerous songs did do that well or better in individual weeks, but got dragged down across longer runs. The highest I have in total are Loreen's 'Euphoria', a 1-weeker, averaging +3.29, and Lady Gaga's 'Telephone', which lasted 5 weeks, being 89% positive votes.) 'All Day And Night' is the only song in this countdown's top 20 that charted less than 4 weeks, and beats Jax Jones' #22 rank of 'Breathe' last year. It's also my favourite charting song of 2019 (outside of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Things_Fall_Apart#Weekly_charts) so I'm quite happy with this.

'Seρorita' was Shawn Mendes' first reshuffle #1, though helped by a bit of an easy week; 'Wish You Well' and 'Higher Love' took over right after with much higher points. Then, when 'Higher Love' got old enough that its points slipped, 'Ride It' was able to get in on the action too. It took a while for Billie Eilish to come within reach of the UK top 10, but when she did, she immediately hit it off here, debuting at #1 with 'bury a friend' and holding 'Don't Call Me Up' at bay for 3 weeks. Narrowly missing the top 10, it's the song with the 2nd highest average (and 2nd highest % of positive votes), 'Wish You Well'. Given Becky Hill co-wrote 'All Day And Night', she played a part in both of the top 2 songs with the highest averages - and she reached #1 on reshuffle with 'Afterglow' and #2 with 'Gecko (Overdrive)' ~back in the day~, so she's had a very strong rate here. Unfortunately she narrowly lost an opportunity to prove that further, with MEDUZA's 'Lose Control' getting stuck at #11. 'Wish You Well' is quite an improvement from Sigala landing at #68 on the 2018 EOY with 'Lullaby', though that's probably taking a sample of him at his weakest; all his other top 10 hits except 'Give Me Your Love' have reached the reshuffle top 2.

5 reshuffle #1s there, but some of them don't feel quite as loved several months on, most notably Senorita which finished 3rd in the hatechart for 2019.

A few songs left definitely weren't #1s on the weekly reshuffle, so it's nice to see them do well here, even if that's partly down to their longevity.

Ah FYI it did receive a -3! (WhoOdyssey gave it +2 then -3, adding up to -1 combined.) But that and a single -1 were its only negative votes.

'Higher Love' had been #1 on reshuffle for 8 weeks right before 'Ride It', so I guess remakes were in vogue for that moment biggrin.gif Either that or the original 'Ride It' isn't well known enough (I hadn't heard it before Regard). Coincidentally I noticed yesterday that, apart from Jay Sean scraping the top 10 for a week with '2012 (It Ain't The End)', both him and Whitney Houston were last in the top 10 at the same time (with 'Down' and 'Million Dollar Bill'), then had nothing for almost a decade, until 'Ride It' and 'Higher Love' which also charted at the same time. Not that Jay Sean is credited on Regard's version obviously but close enough tongue.gif

Ah fair enough, still mightily impressive all the same.

I think the Whitney factor was what made Higher Love so well Regarded on here (basil.gif) whereas a pitched up vocal from a forgotten noughties single wasn't ever going to get any goodwill support. Admittedly I wasn't familiar with the original but all I can say is... it just isn't a very good song whatever you do with it.

Stuck being split between years, 'Nothing Breaks Like A Heart' impressively still manages to reach the top 10 on top of being #21 on the 2018 EOY; together, its points would be enough for #4 of 2019 or #3 of 2018. It spent many weeks in the top 2, but the 2 times it reached #1 (once in each year) were very lucky; they were by margins of just 1 and 2 points over 'Sweet But Psycho'. Miley's one previous reshuffle #1, 'Wrecking Ball', also reached #1 by only 1 point against 'Counting Stars'. For Mark Ronson, it makes 2 years in a row in the EOY top 20 in some guise, as 'Electricity' was #16 of 2018.

The highest rap song of the year is... a cop-out, being a UK garage song, but it is by a rapper, who's had much more of a typical rap performance with his other top 10 hit involvements 'Fashion Week' and 'Rain' ('Dinner Guest' currently pending). 'Ladbroke Grove' debuted with pretty big points just behind 'Wish You Well', and still managed to maintain itself in strong positive points for a good 2 months, despite already being pretty old by the time it first got there, having taken 5 months to go from entering the official chart to reaching the top 10. Meanwhile I have only now learnt that 'Ladbroke' rhymes with 'book' and not 'broke'.

The longest running reshuffle #2 of 2019, '3 Nights' spent 6 consecutive weeks there (the upcoming 'Piece Of Your Heart' spent 5, non-consecutively), all with strong points but consistently stuck behind 'Higher Love' thanks to entering the same week. That first week, 'Higher Love' was #10 on the official chart by a margin of only 611 sales over #11 ('How Do You Sleep?'), so just a slight shift of fate and '3 Nights' might have been a reshuffle #1. Like 'Ladbroke Grove', '3 Nights' seemingly wasn't hurt by having been around for a long time prior, and I can't disagree because it never got old for me.

The highest reshuffle non-#1 (not to be confused with UK chart 'non-#1s' of the 1-5-13-22-36-52-66 kind), 'Piece Of Your Heart' was blocked by 'bad guy' all 5 times, and one of those was unlucky as you can possibly get - a literal tie, which 'bad guy' won by getting 5 +5s that week compared to 2 for 'Piece Of Your Heart'. It never truly dominated, but got at least 25 points in 9/10 of its weeks (the exception being when 'All Day And Night' sucked up everything else's points), almost looking like its run was cut prematurely.

'Fairytale Of New York' at #29 wasn't the only song to have gotten the same EOY position 2 years in a row: 'Sweet But Psycho' has managed to do it as high as #6. Literally, #6 of 2018 and #6 of 2019! The Adele/Simply Red/etc of the reshuffle chart. It's very close to top 5 here, too - #5 and #4 are only 2 and 7 points ahead. In 2018, 'Sweet But Psycho' demolished previous #1 'Shallow' by a huge lead on debut, though it slipped just behind 'Nothing Breaks Like A Heart' a few weeks later, and behind the Pogues/Wham!/Mariah trio on Christmas (read: post-Christmas) week. It returned to #1 with big points in the first week of 2019, and remained top 3 even after 3 months since its debut. Across both years, it got +549 points in total - enough to be easily #1 of 2018, but only #3 of 2019 (the same applies using Points Per Voters numbers to adjust for varying votership, except with a much smaller lead over 2018's #1).

Also speaking of 'Piece Of Your Heart', that deserves the runner-up Russ/Russ splash/RUSS (SPLASH)/RussMB/Russ Millions/https://i.imgur.com/dAkSG6Y.png Award for how inconsistent both artists' capitalisation was across platforms :') But they've since added further ground to it, because did you know the cover art has been changed from 'ft.' to 'x'? (along with a couple other modifications weirdly)

All Day And Night had insane points! If only it had managed at least another 1-2 weeks in the Top 10 I think it would easily have been Top 10 on the year. It's one of the best songs of last year and definitely one of the few chart hits that still sounds incredible today. What was You Don't Know Me in the 2017 reshuffle EOY?

The fact Good Things Fall Apart didn't even go Top 100 in the US irks me beyond belief. One of my absolute favourites of last year and yet another fantastic opportunity for Jon Bellion to earn another commercial success but everyone slept on it. The fact it got to #1 on Bubbling Under just adds insult to injury... potentially more annoying to me than how Rex Orange County's 10/10 ended up #102 in Triple J's Hottest 100/200 of 2019.

^ I have no idea tongue.gif Nobody ever made a 2017 EOY and I don't have the data for that period collated myself (yet). It got 316 points in total which is pretty strong considering that the early 2017 threads were sometimes not even reaching a second page.

I don't think of ILLENIUM as a chart-relevant artist so I find it impressive that it got any traction. I'm not a Rex Orange County fan but I wasn't far off with 'Bags' at #111 so I can relate. At least that #102 wasn't a classic narrowly behind 2 Ruel songs being considered best-of-the-decade content ph34r.gif

Narrowly squeezing into the top 5 by 2 points is Mabel's biggest hit to date. It was kept off the reshuffle #1 for the first half of its run by 'Sweet But Psycho' and then 'bury a friend' (with several close calls), but was able to get some pretty large leads once both those were out of the way. Her first top 10 hit 'Finders Keepers' only circled on both sides of 0, so it took no effort for 'Don't Call Me Up' to outperform it, and it remains unmatched so far, with 'Mad Love' (#31 in this countdown) reaching #3, and 'Boyfriend' unfortunately only #8. I hope 'Paco Rabanne' paid her well for featuring his/their name on her cover so prominently.

Here's a name you probably wouldn't have expected to be voted top 5 of the year on this site prior: Post Malone. In last year's EOY, he was #89 ('Psycho'), #85 ('Sunflower'), #77 ('Better Now') and #27 (featured on 'Jackie Chan'), and this year, his other entries were #98 ('Wow.'), #60 ('Post Malone'), #40 ('Sunflower', Vol. 2) and #35 ('Goodbyes'). 'Circles' was clearly going somewhere new: upon debut, it was his first reshuffle top 2 placing apart from one week via 'Jackie Chan', and after waiting for 'Higher Love' to get old and 'Ride It' to have its turn, it spent 4 weeks at #1, until 'Don't Start Now' arrived. It was mostly a lower-scoring #1 so I'm kind of surprised it was able to rank this high, but a 10-week run and consistent performance (no less than 20 points each week) served it well.

There's a big jump in points on the way after this - 'Circles' is closer to #13 than to #3.

Even with only 7 weeks of charting, 'Don't Start Now' easily makes the top 3. It has the 3rd highest average vote, behind the shorter-lived 'All Day And Night' and 'Wish You Well', and also the 3rd highest % of positive votes, behind the same 2 songs. Naturally, it debuted at #1 and never budged, usually with a large lead although 'everything i wanted' came 11 points behind once. The only somewhat surprising thing is that it didn't get a full set of +5s from any of the 15 people who voted in all of its weeks.

It marks a second year in a row in the EOY top 3 for Dua, following 'One Kiss' being #2 of 2018 - which 'Don't Start Now' managed to surpass the total points of in half as many weeks, though helped by higher voting numbers. Additionally, she was also #16 and #19 last year with 'Electricity' and 'IDGAF', and of course, there's a very strong chance 'New Rules' would've been top 3 of 2017 too, I presume.

Where 'Don't Start Now' truly goes off the charts is in 2020. It lasted a further 18 weeks in the top 10 until ACR finally managed to catch it, and across those 18 weeks, it scored (I'm counting this for the first time now so it's new to me too)... +775 points, never slipping into negative points no matter how old it got. That is more than any song in 2018 or 2019, and that's just its 2020 run. In total, it got +1,259 points, more than double that of 2019's upcoming #1. Could that be the highest score of all time? Perhaps. (Not like it's a fair competition when nothing in the digital sales era could've dreamed of coming near 25 weeks, but nonetheless.) The highest I have from 2009 to mid-2014 is +1,248 from 'Rather Be', which 'Don't Start Now' narrowly surpassed. The same applies via Points Per Voters (increasingly useful when the average number of voters per week ranges from, say, 13 for 'We Found Love' to 31 for 'Don't Start Now' to 35 for 'Rather Be'), where 'Don't Start Now' totalled +43.25, ahead of +36.25 from 'Get Lucky'. Unless, of course, 'Blinding Lights' has something to say about it, given it's also been extremely popular and is going nowhere... I'll leave that as 2020 suspense.

Kygo and Whitney Houston's 'collaboration' resulted in a lot of reshuffle love, including a flood of +5s - 31% of all its votes were +5s, the highest % for any song this year (something neither 'All Day And Night' nor 'Wish You Well' lead in!). Its first 6 weeks were particularly huge, with an average vote of +2.81 across those 6 weeks, and its negatives were pretty concentrated among a couple people... if I delete its lowest 3 voters, its average among those 6 weeks reaches +3.45, surpassing 'All Day And Night' (among all 11 weeks it goes from +2.14 to +2.79). It was a new reshuffle high for both Kygo and Whitney, who'd reached #2 for one week each with all of their previous top 10 hits (within the reshuffle chart's existence, obviously) - 'Million Dollar Bill', blocked by 'Fight For This Love'; 'Firestone', blocked by 'King'; and 'It Ain't Me', blocked by 'Symphony'. And it's so close to #1 that a trivial difference like 'Higher Love' averaging 26.0 votes per week as opposed to 26.9 for the upcoming song is more than enough to place it at #1 by Points Per Voters. So very close...

I wasn't exaggerating: 'bad guy' wins by 1 point. With a margin like that, you might think the only reason it's #1 is because of the re-entry (fueled by the release of the poorly-received remix with Justin Bieber, which never came close to the original on Spotify but did push it back to SCR), but it actually scored +5, -4 and -2 points in those 3 weeks respectively, adding up to a combined -1 point - so without the re-entry, it would've instead been 2 points ahead of 'Higher Love'. The re-entry did, however, drag down its average vote, which without it would be +1.88 (ranking #6).

'bad guy' followed in the footsteps of 'bury a friend' and debuted at #1, and remained there for long enough to block 'Here With Me', 'Piece Of Your Heart', 'Vossi Bop' (though that one also got blocked by 'Seρorita') and... 'You Need To Calm Down'. As a #1, it wasn't really as high-scoring as 'All Day And Night', 'Wish You Well', 'Higher Love' or 'Don't Start Now', but of course it charted longer than all of them (even without the re-entry), and to its credit, was still able to be #1 as late as its 12th week, with 'All Day And Night' being the only song that ever ranked above it during those 12 weeks.

I think that makes it 83 or 84 weeks for you now doesn't it? And I'm only 3 weeks behind wardy so if you ever need a stand in I'm here to boost my position kink.gif As much as I enjoyed hosting it for as long as I did I'm so happy we palmed the job off to someone as... statistically inclined... as you! No doubt if it were me hosting this EOY there would be significantly less stats... in fact we'd probably end up with a straight list of songs with only their point totals all posted at once like a year later. Don't look at my 2018 EOY if you have any respect for me left

I tried to guess the #1 from memory and 'This Girl' was my best guess - I thought the Clean Bandit songs wouldn't be long-running enough (within 2016) and didn't think of 'Lush Life'. Makes sense of course. Glad to see 'This Girl' and especially 'Don't Let Me Down' so high!

99 Souls top 10 is impressive when it only charted 4 weeks. 'The Greatest' above 'Cheap Thrills' ohmy.gif I'm guessing 'Cheap Thrills' charted so long that it went into negatives. Would've expected 'Faded' higher! I feel like it would dominate nowadays.

Poor 'Work From Home', Buzzjack gets one of the biggest girl group hits in ages and it's not especially appreciated kink.gif

'Human' must be Rag'n'Bone Man but I have no idea what 'This Is What It Feels Like' and 'Find Love' are. Looking at the Wikipedia top 10s list... oh, probably 'This Is What You Came For' and 'Fake Love' (the ultimate filler Drake hit lol).

'Panda', 'Heathens', 'Don't Mind' and 'Black Beatles' deserved better. Not that I helped because I think I've voted most of the time since 2013 except in 2016 (and the latter half of 2015).

We've still yet to have a EOY Reshuffle #1 I properly love then. Bad Guy just got killed by overplay & Higher Love was decent but nothing I was ever fully into, would have preferred the latter at #1 if pushed.
