I've been following this for a little while since seeing one or two of Dan's threads relating to ranking chart runs in accordance with the modified version of Polyhex's points system and thought it deserved a thread of its own rather than piggy-backing on an existing thread.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a reminder, the points system works like this:

((101-Position)/100)+(2.718^(-Position/2))

An explanation of the formula (Polyhex):

( 100 +1 - Position ) / 100 )

This reverses the chart position and divides it by 100 so we don't end up with large points when they're all added together.
Therefore a #1 position in the top 40 get 1 point and a #100 position will get 0.01 points.

( 2.718 ^ ( -Position / 2) )

This adds an extra few points to the top positions so they are weighted more.
--- Therefore a #1 position gets an extra 0.61 points, a #2 gets 0.37, a #10 gets 0.007. After #10 these values become miniscule.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For ever and a day, "My Way" by Frank Sinatra has been number one. But not for long. After this week's chart (i.e. that for w/e 18/2/21), I have the top of the table looking like this

Rank Artist Title Points Peak Weeks on chart First Week Last Week

1 Frank Sinatra "My Way" 83.4962 5 133 05/04/1969 08/08/1998

2 Ed Sheeran "Perfect" 83.2173 1 159 16/03/2017 18/02/2021

3 Lewis Capaldi "Someone You Loved" 83.1574 1 107 22/11/2018 18/02/2021

4 Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl "Fairytale Of New York" 78.8711 2 109 05/12/1987 07/01/2021

5 Mariah Carey "All I Want For Christmas Is You" 77.7519 1 101 10/12/1994 07/01/2021

6 Ed Sheeran "Thinking Out Loud" 69.2345 1 118 05/07/2014 06/07/2017

7 George Ezra "Shotgun" 68.8735 1 121 05/04/2018 10/09/2020

8 Ed Sheeran "Shape Of You" 66.4549 1 97 19/01/2017 23/05/2019

9 Snow Patrol "Chasing Cars" 65.3433 6 166 29/07/2006 25/10/2014

10 Kings Of Leon "Sex On Fire" 64.1237 1 124 20/09/2008 26/01/2013

Red=in current chart, Green=charted since 1/1/21, Blue=charted in last 12 months.

For ages it looks like "Perfect" was going to be the song to dethrone Ol' Blue Eyes, but since it hit ACR, the North of the Border challenge from Lewis Capaldi has got stronger and stronger and now there's virtually nothing in it.

My database is still incomplete for the 76-100 positions before Feb 98 but I don't think anything else will affect the Top 10, although some of the Oasis tracks stuck around the lower reaches of the charts seemingly forever.

"Dance Monkey" and "Blinding Lights" are 11 and 13 in my listing, but with quite a gap to No. 10

"Last Christmas" would be No. 6 with 71.3588 points if you include the time spent as a Double A-Side with "Everything She Wants"

Others currently in the top 100
~11 Tones & I "Dance Monkey" 61.9778
~13 The Weeknd "Blinding Lights" 59.3094
~52 Killers "Mr Brightside" 43.0267
~55 Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper "Shallow" 42.5776
~68 Dua Lipa "Don't Start No" 39.6011
~70 Lewis Capaldi "Before You Go" 38.9512
~86 Post Malone "Sunflower" 36.4897
~114 Saint Jhn "Roses" 34.3211
~123 Harry Styles "Watermelon Sugar" 33.8035
~163 Joel Corry featuring MNEK "Head and Heart" 31.2019
~252 Pinkfong "Baby Shark" 27.5009
~359 Jawsh 685 & Jason Derulo "Savage Love (Laxed Beat) 24.9181
~391 24k Goldn feauring Iann Dior "Mood" 24.3477
~476 Tate McRae "You Broke Me First" 23.0092

The lower you go down the more inaccurate the overall positions will be due to the missing data mentioned earlier

As an aside, is there a better way of displaying data in tables?

I'd been thinking Perfect must be close by now to overtaking My Way in this metric, but had no idea Someone You Loved was so close. Definitely rooting for team Capaldi out of those.

I'm pretty sure Someone You Loved has a great chance to be going into the lead here after Friday's chart! Certainly wouldn't complain at that taking it over Perfect, which I also expect will overtake My Way next week.

Well the expected change in leadership happened, and "My Way" dropped from No. 1 to No.3 in one fell swoop. Also as a bonus "Thinking Out Loud" consolidates its No. 6 spot by picking up a little fraction of a point.

Rank Artist Title Points Peak Weeks on chart First Week Last Week

Lewis Capaldi "Someone You Loved" 83.7474 1 108 22/11/2018 25/02/2021

Ed Sheeran "Perfect" 83.6573 1 160 16/03/2017 25/02/2021

Frank Sinatra "My Way" 83.4962 5 133 05/04/1969 08/08/1998

Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl "Fairytale Of New York" 78.8711 2 109 05/12/1987 07/01/2021

Mariah Carey "All I Want For Christmas Is You" 77.7519 1 101 10/12/1994 07/01/2021

Ed Sheeran "Thinking Out Loud" 69.2845 1 119 05/07/2014 25/02/2021

George Ezra "Shotgun" 68.8735 1 121 05/04/2018 10/09/2020

Ed Sheeran "Shape Of You" 66.4549 1 97 19/01/2017 23/05/2019

Snow Patrol "Chasing Cars" 65.3433 6 166 29/07/2006 25/10/2014

Kings Of Leon "Sex On Fire" 64.1237 1 124 20/09/2008 26/01/2013

Red=in current chart, Green=charted since 1/1/21, Blue=charted in last 12 months.

"Dance Monkey" and "Blinding Lights" are still racking up points while another random re-entry, "All of Me" by John Legend is at No. 16

~11 Tones & I "Dance Monkey" 62.5178
~13 The Weeknd "Blinding Lights" 60.0795
~16 John Legend "All Of Me" 56.8595
~51 Killers "Mr Brightside" 43.2967
~53 Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper "Shallow" 42.9476
~68 Dua Lipa "Don't Start Now" 39.7611
~70 Lewis Capaldi "Before You Go" 39.2112
~108 Saint Jhn "Roses" 34.6611
~117 Harry Styles "Watermelon Sugar" 34.1935
~136 James Arthur "Say You Won't Let Go" 32.4252
~147 Joel Corry featuring MNEK "Head & Heart" 31.9319
~248 Pinkfong "Baby Shark" 27.7109
~361 24KGoldn featuring Iann Dior "Mood" 24.9977
~362 Jawsh 685 & Jason Derulo "Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat)" 24.9781
~434 Tate McRae "You Broke Me First" 23.6092

For reference, "Drivers License" is at about No. 4572 so it has got a long way to go yet to make this list.

I'm not going to update this every week, but will do so as and when somehing notable happens, probably "Blinding Lights" making the top ten.

Delighted that Someone You Loved did indeed manage to beat Perfect to become the new leading song to take over from My Way here! Perfect can spend even longer at number two biggrin.gif

I said above I'd next update his when "Blinding Lights" climbed into to the top ten, well I underestimated "Dance Monkey"'s longevity, for it is the Australian challanger rather than the Canadian one which has overtaken "Sex On Fire"

1 Lewis Capaldi Someone You Loved 85.7274
2 Ed Sheeran Perfect 84.6373
3 Frank Sinatra My Way 83.4962
4 Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl Fairytale Of New York 78.8711
5 Mariah Carey All I Want For Christmas Is You 77.7519
6 Ed Sheeran Thinking Out Loud 69.2845
7 George Ezra Shotgun 68.8735
8 Ed Sheeran Shape Of You 66.4549
9 Snow Patrol Chasing Cars 65.3433
10 Tones & I Dance Monkey 64.4578
11 Kings Of Leon Sex On Fire 64.1237
12 The Weeknd Blinding Lights 62.9895

Others in this weeks top 100 (with more than 20 points)
~46 Killers Mr Brightside 44.4467
~49 Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper Shallow 43.8276
~66 Lewis Capaldi Before You Go 39.8712
~67 Dua Lipa Don't Start Now 39.8711
~91 Saint Jhn Roses 36.1011
~96 Harry Styles Watermelon Sugar 35.7435
~110 Joel Corry featuring MNEK Head & Heart 34.7219
~158 Dababy featuring Roddy Ricch Rockstar 31.4903
~264 24KGoldn featuring Iann Dior Mood 27.1977
~342 Tate McRae You Broke Me First 25.3992
~482 Internet Money featuring Gunna & Don Toliver Lemonade 22.9528
~669 Paul Woolford & Diplo featuring Kareen Lomax Looking For Me 20.4926
~698 Dua Lipa Levitating 20.1701
~703 Little Mix Sweet Melody 20.1371

"Drivers License" is now on 15.2892 and in about 1473rd position, "Wellerman" has just over 10 points and ranks in the 3700s.

At the other end of the scale, "Follow You" by Imagine Dragons may be the first 0.01 scorer of 2021 if it doesn't make another appearance in the chart.
