Thought they actually might add Gaga given how well it's doing. Shawn and Lana will probably be added next week. At least Paramore got an insta-add!

Surprised they've playlisted James TW, wasn't expecting that.

Poor brave Will Joseph Cook sad.gif

Posted by: danG 21st April 2017, 09:13 AM

good to see Becky Hill and KYLE added (I think the latter is looking nicely set up to be a big hit, it's already huge in America).

Boo at the lack of Gaga and Lana.

Posted by: Tinasha 21st April 2017, 09:16 AM

Actually really surprised they didn't add Lana and Gaga yet. I thought Little Mix would get the boot.

Posted by: Haarry 21st April 2017, 09:24 AM

No Lana Gaga OR Shawn? Is there any possible reason they're not including these releases this week?

Posted by: Sevn Bru 21st April 2017, 09:26 AM

Ultralife on the playlist *.* wonder-ful!

lol at the Guetta song being canned already

Posted by: Mr. C. Joel 21st April 2017, 09:27 AM

Shocked but super happy Louisa remains heart.gif cheer.gif

Posted by: ~josh~ 21st April 2017, 09:34 AM

Sad to see no Gaga, I was really hoping that The Cure was going to be a big hit to boost her career a bit but it's going to be more difficult with no Radio 1 support. It deserves to be a top 5 hit for her really, it's her best in ages for me!

Sad at Guetta leaving the playlist too, it sounded like a huge smash to me but it's just totally failed to pick up steam! None of these Nicki features are doing too well at the moment sad.gif

Great to see Disciples finally move up to A List and also fantastic to see them continue to support Paramore!

Posted by: ♀mdh♀ 21st April 2017, 09:51 AM

Delighted to see Oh Wonder and KYLE get adds - and nice to see Paramore insta-added I guess. Although it's a shame that Shawn and Gaga haven't been added, I assume they'll still get spot plays throughout the week on the breakfast show etc, so it's not all bad biggrin.gif

Posted by: mr_pmt 21st April 2017, 09:58 AM

I'm interested to see if R1 add Gaga or if they've permanently dumped her now. Usually when they don't playlist one single by an act like that it's a sign they have.

Posted by: tommie 21st April 2017, 10:03 AM

Both Gaga and Lana are females over the age of 30. Radio One is officially done with them.

Katy Perry says hi, as does Sia from behind her wig.

Posted by: Jonjo 21st April 2017, 10:15 AM

Somebody mentioned that Lana's "impact date" isn't until mid-May appaz, so it'll be to soon for R1 to get on board.

As for Gaga. I'm really not sure. I don't think it was meant for anything other than a "treat" for the fans/something new for her Coachella set. Their playlist works completely differently to Capital/Global FM's (who literally use iTunes as first point of reference).

Shawn might be a bit too early too.

I know the album is out album late May, so that makes sense, But Radio 1 doesn't work by impact dates as much anymore. Songs are on the A list for weeeeeeks before the album is out.

Posted by: Bjork 21st April 2017, 10:25 AM

MW posted than the impact date for Lana's Lust for Life was May 19 (1 week before the album out May 26), so I kinda knew she was not gonna be added this week

'Swalla' says hi.

Lana will 100% get playlisted, surprised it wasn't this week but she will soon.

Posted by: LustForLife 21st April 2017, 10:57 AM

Lana will probably be on next week, shame it wasn't this week though sad.gif

Posted by: ♀mdh♀ 21st April 2017, 11:00 AM

I think in time we'll see Gaga, Shawn and Lana all on the playlist so it's too early to worry. Remember, they only usually go for one insta-add per week unless the circumstances require different (eg. Shape Of You and Castle On The Hill), so it's not a surprise that they 'snubbed' so many artists when this week is SO busy for new music biggrin.gif

Great to see James TW and Becky Hill playlisted! Was hoping they'd add Shawn and/or Charlie though.

Posted by: Cody Burgess 21st April 2017, 04:33 PM

Paramore already? That's surprising.

Posted by: Steve201 21st April 2017, 05:58 PM

Yeh Lanas new single is the pre album single so I expect they will leave it til next week and build up its plays to coincide with release week!

Great to see Paramores continued support along with Becky Hill & promotions for Kendrick & Disciples!

Posted by: cqmerqn 21st April 2017, 06:01 PM

Surprised but glad Lorde is still there.

Posted by: Steve201 21st April 2017, 06:37 PM

They're loving the Lorde track, surprised she hasn't moved up more since capital jumped on board!

Posted by: Envoirment 21st April 2017, 08:40 PM

Shame Bruno has been removed, was hoping it could manage a couple more weeks on the A-list.

Age has not a lot to do with it.

Ellie Goulding is 30 yet there's no way they'd snub her.

But the way they become irrelevant is when radio doesn't play them. If radio stopped playing Ellie Goulding she would become irrelevant. Any chance they will add Lady Gaga this week? Why is she regarded as irrelevant?

Posted by: Tombo 26th April 2017, 03:04 PM

Gosh, they playlist so much junk. It is no wonder so many people are turned off by R1 these days.

Age has EVERYTHING to do with it, especially if you're a Female Artist and in your mid 30's or older - Radio 1 deem you irrelevant. It's a total double standard, as they will play music from older males, but rarely females. It seems to be a problem not just confined to BBC radio but BBC tv too - it was all over the press a few years back. Very sad in the supposed age of equality.

Pure prejudice when you get a Female Singer who is deemed too old, yet her music is written/produced by Artists who are still playlisted, shocking when her music sounds just like other songs that are playlisted from younger artists... that's a terrible shame.

Beyoncé and Sia prove that's not the case. It's all about the genre of music an artist makes. Pure pop artists are far less likely to get continued R1 support following a flop single, though I still think Lady Gaga has a chance as 'The Cure' is doing nicely in the chart so far and sounds current.

Posted by: Tinasha 26th April 2017, 03:49 PM

I think age and gender does come into it, but relevancy is more where it's based. If a female artist over 30 even shows any signs of losing some relevancy, Radio 1 are very strict with them.

Marina is a good example for me, she was a indie-pop artist who came second in the BBC Sound Of polls and her previous two albums were both Gold top 5s, her last album went to #1 and gave her her biggest hit, but Radio 1 just did not want to give her third era a chance, despite the singles being very Radio 1 friendly. I feel like if it was one of their indie male artists in the exact same position, they'd be offered more of a chance.

No they do not.... Sia just about, and she is the exception at 41 (give her a year or two and she won't be played)

What about anyone over 40? Beyonce as a soon to be mother of 3 and nearing 40 will fall victim to being deemed irrelevant soon; especially as she's not had a solo UK #1 in 9 years, just wait.

Radio 1 thinks that because their listeners are in a demographic of 15-29, any female older than that wouldn't really be relevant to their demographic - without realising they are in effect reinforcing terrible ageist stereotypes instead of trying to lead a positive change in attitudes to women over 40.

Beyoncé's last album was the most talked about album of 2016 and sold very well, and Radio 1 gave her loads of airtime. I doubt she's going to become irrelevant in the near future, unless she drastically changes into a more radio 2 friendly artist.

You miss the point again... I said: Beyonce as a soon to be mother of 3 and nearing 40 and will soon fall victim as being deemed irrelevant - not right now, but in just a few years - not based on her music but on her age. Just wait and see, and please pay attention more to what I write if you want to comment on it.

I didn't miss the point, "soon" is quite a vague statement anyway. Besides, she's not showing any signs of this, you appear to have based it solely upon when her last #1 single was, which is pretty irrelevant considering she's still had a number of hits in that time and some big album sales too. Some artists defy the "age" thing and I think Beyoncé will be one of them.

I disagree with you completely..... and when I say soon, I mean around her 40th birthday. That's when BBC radio 1 will stop playing her new music, however great, however current and whomever has written and produced it. Beyonce is no exception.

Well Sia is 41... laugh.gif age does come into play with Radio 1 I think but it doesn't stop dead around an artist's 40th birthday. Bey will get support as long as she is relevant enough for it.

Beyonce is culturally bigger than ever, there's no way she's suddenly gonna be irrelevant because she has another two kids laugh.gif

I think it's ridiculous people on here complain like it's a BBC problem when BBC is a public service broadcaster and so goes out of their way to promote equality and variety on all their formats, hence having he BBC Trust to monitor their output. Unlike private sector alternatives which are based on profit and listeners!

It's ridiculous that people DON'T think it's a BBC problem, it is. Ageism against Females has been a very widely held accusation leveled at the BBC for a number of years.... WAKE UP!
