Well, Well, Well ...

SPEECHLESS comes to mind laugh.gif

Those Iggy numbers are hilarious, and the fact they haven't decided which album to assign the track sales too is just ... rotf.gif

--------------------------------

In case anyone missed the announcement, this will be the first chart to reflect the new Billboard 200 methodology of including:
  • Track Equivalent Albums (TEA) - "10 digital track sales = 1 album sale"
  • Stream Equivalent Albums (SEA) - "1,500 song streams = 1 album sale"

One thing HDD hasn't clarified, is whether the sales figure are pure traditional sales or if they include Track Equivalent Albums (TEA), ie, "10 digital track sales = 1 album sale".

For 15k of Stream Equivalent Albums (SEA), ie, "1,500 song streams = 1 album sale", Eminem would need 22,500,000 streams. I suppose that is possible when you've got 28 tracks on the album, which implies the sales figure may not be a true sales figure.

Billboard's write-up next week sure will be interesting.

I'm impressed the Beyoncé album is actually selling that much considering it's bombing in the UK.

Do you know what would be a result for Taylor's first week if Billboard was using this method?

Well, Taylor probably has the most to gain as "Blank Space" is #1 on the digital songs and streaming, while "Shake It Off" is #8 and #4 respectively.
  • Blank Space - 302,000 digital sales = 30k TEA sales
  • Blank Space - 14.2 million streams = 10k SEA sales
  • Shake It Off - 89,000 digital sales = 9k TEA sales
  • Shake It Off - 9.4 million streams = 6 SEA sales
So that's 55k extra in sales from just 2 songs laugh.gif

Would Taylor's sales then count towards both the Hot 100 and the Albums chart?

It would appear so.

In theory, the new Billboard 200 should give us an idea of how money an artist has made from sales/streaming in a week, because you're adding all the sales they've made from songs sold and streamed related to that album.

It won't because streaming revenues are so low and artists don't make the same percentage off individual track downloads as they do albums sold.

But it will give us an idea - that's how I'm looking at this new chart laugh.gif
