BuzzJack Music Forum _ Rihanna _ RIHANNA IS DOING THE SUPERBOWL HALFTIME SHOW IN 2023

Posted by: Gerald 25th September 2022, 07:02 PM

She confirmed it on IG.

Posted by: Sour Candy 25th September 2022, 07:10 PM

Yass, We need it!!

Posted by: JLJ 25th September 2022, 07:15 PM

I’m genuinely in shock!!

This is amazing news though and it’s probably the biggest sign we’ve seen so far that Rihanna is still a popstar after all.

What a way to launch a new era! I definitely can’t see her headlining and not dropping something new in the lead up to it!

R9 is a real thing guys wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

Posted by: Jade 25th September 2022, 07:26 PM

I was honestly starting to think I'd never see the day that she'd come back to music laugh.gif wow, her hits are endless so this set list is going to be stacked!

I am so, SO ready!

I'm so happy she agreed to do it, coz didn't she refuse at one point due to the way the NFL treated Colin Kaepernick or something?

Yes she did. But now Jay Z is managing the show, it must have been a huge factor on why she decided to do it now.

Omg genuinely unexpected news cheeseblock.png

Posted by: HausEatsGrandma 25th September 2022, 09:29 PM

SO HYPED!

She's been seen in recording studios too so please say there's an album to coincide with this performance.

Instead of the halftime show, can she just have the entire superbowl slot? She has the hits to fill that time.

At least this confirms she should be coming back to the music scene with a new album! I assume we might get a lead single Q1 2023?

the memes are giving me life

Posted by: spiceboy 1st October 2022, 10:33 AM

Will be SO interesting to see what songs she does, she has so many hits to choose from!

Posted by: dannjohn 10th October 2022, 12:52 PM

she does have a lot of hits but remember these things are more GP friendly which means the following are almost-confirmed imo:

Work
Wild Thoughts
Pon Di Replay
We Found Love
Whats my Name
Rude Boy
Umbrella
Stay
Love the Way You Lie

These for me are could be's:
Only girl in the World
SOS
Disturbia
Hate That I Love You
Don't Stop the Music
Take a Bow
Hard
Cheers (Drink to That)
Where Have You Been
Love on the Brain
This is what You Came For

I think S&M will be a complete No as it would be sensored to the max.

I would have thought diamonds SOS and only girl in the world would have places above work, wild thoughts and pon di replay?

- SOS
- umbrella
- don’t stop the music
- take a bow
- rude boy
- only girl in the world
- what’s my name (with drake)
- love the way you lie (with Eminem)
- We found love
- diamonds in the sky
- fourty five seconds (with Paul McCartney and Kanye West)
- new song

Is my bet of song list

Just under 3 weeks until the Superbowl! First one I’ll miss watching live in years too.

Posted by: Bleak Dot Winter 26th January 2023, 04:56 PM

With the Superbowl getting close, have we heard anymore about any new music?

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow 26th January 2023, 06:15 PM

Nothing that I’ve seen. With it being two and a half weeks away away I’m guessing we’re still two to three weeks away from anything. If anything.

Posted by: JLJ 26th January 2023, 10:15 PM

I really hope this goes well and more so that it’s her real comeback moment and not overly reliant on special guests.

Gaga and The Weeknd showed that you don’t always need them even if you’ve had successful collaborations. I know Rih will bring at least one out though but I’d love it if she did it totally solo.

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow 26th January 2023, 10:36 PM

I think purely for the amount of songs she has with him Drake would surely be there. Otheer than that I'm just going to guess Eminem.

Good. He can stay as FAAAARRRR away from this as possible.

Honestly, she should just do it on her own! She doesn't need any special guests!

Sounding promising. Looking forward to seeing it.

Posted by: Tafty³³³ 4th February 2023, 05:51 PM

I'm so nervous about the setlist lmao coz I feel like she loves and wants to perform the songs I actually feel indifferent to or dislike, more than the songs I want her to perform lmao.

I don't even want 'Only Girl' but I suspect we're gonna get it. The pop tracks I'm expecting are 'Umbrella', 'Only Girl' & 'We Found Love'. Everything else I'm really not sure about. I suspect we'll get 'Work', 'Needed Me' and/or 'Pour It Up'. I'd rather we had 'Love On The Brain' over 'Diamonds' too, but I presume it'll be the latter that gets the token big ballad moment.

She has SO many smashes and a fair few (likely to be included) "meh" too... I'm excited but also nervous to hear what we get!

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow 4th February 2023, 09:03 PM

I think two of SOS, Don’t Stop The Music and Take A Bow will feature.

Posted by: JLJ 11th February 2023, 02:59 PM

TOMORROW NIGHT!!

The wait is very nearly over laugh.gif

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow 11th February 2023, 08:20 PM

Haha, that got me thinking. She’ll probably open with Wait You Turn.

It’s just the way the game is played. It’s best that you just wait your turn.
The wait is over, the wait is over. The wait is over, the wait is over.

Would be appropriate after 7 years. laugh.gif

I’m SO FRICKING EXCITED! I’ve not been as excited for a Superbowl half-time performance since Justin’s a couple of years ago and I think I’m anticipating RiRi’s even more!

Anyone knows what time is it by european time?

Posted by: Sour Candy 12th February 2023, 06:53 PM

I don't think it's fixed as it is halftime and we don't know how long the 1st half lasts. Maybe around 2am CET?

So many smashes performed and literally Only Girl & We Found Love are the only songs from my Rihanna top 15 that got performed cry.gif (none from my top 5 did, tho at least S&M was in the background at one point!). Late 00s RiRi is my ultimate fave so it was a shame we only got two songs from that era (would've been nice to have even just heard some in the background like S&M/Kiss It Better, justice for Disturbia/SOS!) and Love On The Brain is my fave 'new'-RiRi song so I wish we got that too cry.gif

Not all of Diamonds/Where Have You Been/the Kanye collabs/Pour It Up all getting performed cry.gif (the first one was obvious, the last one in particular was a nasty surprise laugh.gif)

And no new music ofc! See y'all for R9 in 2032 (as a tie-in with Fenty Beauty)

But still a queen as always and its great to see her finally perform again! cheeseblock.png I also love that it was fully solo performance too!!

Posted by: LouisL 13th February 2023, 01:52 AM

It was… fine. She fit in A LOT of songs which is great but it all felt very one note - felt much more like a VMAs greatest hits performance than a halftime show.

Posted by: Addy! 13th February 2023, 01:53 AM

In all honesty nothing happened…I mean I saw her during Anti tour and my expectations were low to begin with, but I thought with the stage as big as this would be spectacular!!!

I loved Umbrella/Diamonds closing but that’s about it!!!

Posted by: Gerald 13th February 2023, 01:53 AM

AN INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE FROM RIH AND SHE’S PREGNANT!!! cheeseblock.png

Posted by: JLJ 13th February 2023, 01:58 AM

Wasn’t a massive fan of around half of that setlist.

But I’m glad she’s back on stage at least. She looked stunning and the stage and dancers were great. She did sound great too but yeah I just felt conflicted that there was around 4-5 tracks on that set what I don’t really ever return too.

I think it kinda missed that big ballad moment though (like Love on the brain finally getting it’s flowers on a big live event) and something from her debut era and a girl like me represented to show her entire career but yeah at least we got a live performance at least.

Posted by: Tafty³³³ 13th February 2023, 02:38 AM

Her reps have confirmed that she's pregnant.

NEVER GETTING THAT TOUR OR ALBUM I FEAR!!!!

Posted by: J00prstar 13th February 2023, 02:54 AM

Decent, 7/10. She did about as well as what my expectation was.

The platforms impressed me the most, and then the mix. Her stage presence was pretty good and she had good camera face, but, on the flipside, I'm not sure how much she actually sang, and lack of new music feels like a missed opportunity unless R9 is a planned to be a greatest hits.

Rih after her Super Bowl performance:

Posted by: No Sleeep 13th February 2023, 04:48 AM

I thought it was really underwhelming honestly, I just rewatched Madonna’s performance and yeah, that’s definitely my opinion. I’m not even blaming Rihanna but staging wise, fashion, colour, lack of guests, it was just lacking. As well as the rapid fire setlist (she really should’ve cut it down and done longer songs), it just didn’t have that spectacle-y feel the halftime show usually does even when I’m not a fan of the artist. Perhaps her first (and last again for a long time?) performance in years shouldn’t have been at such a high stakes event. Idk. Happy for the people who enjoyed it but not my cup of tea.

If the pregnancy was supposed to be the big reveal I think it could’ve been done a lot more strategically too, me and my friend spent the show debating “is she pregnant or..?”. I don’t know why she would agree to do this show considering performers aren’t paid, unless she had bigger plans that have been scrapped which I feel may be the case.

Posted by: Frenchie 13th February 2023, 05:13 AM

I really enjoyed the show. I don’t really know what people were expecting for a Rihanna half time show but I feel like she’s more about the hits hence why she did lots of songs. Also she was confirmed as the half time performer back in September when she likely didn’t know about the pregnancy so the plans very likely changed.

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow 13th February 2023, 05:46 AM

I'm in the camp of being underwhelmed. Whilst I understand plans may have changed that's fine, I was just hoping for a little bit more.

Posted by: Sour Candy 13th February 2023, 06:42 AM

I really loved to see her on stage, she has such a nice aura around her! That said, I don't think this halftime show will go down in history as such.

In general, I am not fan of the concept where you are given 14 minutes and the producers want you to sing all your hits.

Here's the performance, NFL doesn't allow me to embed it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjBo--1n8lI

Posted by: Cameron 13th February 2023, 08:01 AM

Go on girl give us nothing. Can’t believe she only performed Umbrella and Rude Boy from like her first 4 eras? Wild.

Posted by: Calvin Maxwell 13th February 2023, 08:27 AM

the biggest “bruh” moment for me was when “All Of The Lights” started playing after I speculated that she wouldn’t even touch the track for “””reasons””” and the camera cut to her shamelessly plugging Fenty Beauty for two seconds before singing again laugh.gif

Posted by: Nick F1 13th February 2023, 08:48 AM

She slayed, loved every bit of it!

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 13th February 2023, 09:00 AM

It was ....fine. I am disappointed honestly, the fact she's pregnant obviously meant she couldn't dance or move as much as I would've liked, the staging was fairly simple for such a comeback performance and a lack of guests made it lack the wow/exciting factor.

On the plus side, I think her vocals were really impressive on some of the songs throughout, she looked amazing and it was nice to see some of these songs in a live capacity (Umbrella especially!)

Posted by: *Tim 13th February 2023, 10:16 AM

She missed so many great hits only to include Wild Thoughts and All Of The Lights :skull:

Where were Pon De Replay, Whats My Name, S&M, Don't Stop The Music????

Posted by: Jessie Where 13th February 2023, 10:46 AM

Well, that's 15 minutes of my life I'm never getting back.

It's symbolic of how lazy she's become and puts in the bare minimum effort with everything she does nowadays.

Posted by: Lukuzz 13th February 2023, 11:27 AM

I mean it was ok, but compared to so many epic performances for super bowl in the past it definitely lacked a bit. Obviously being pregnant didn’t help but she definitely could have had some guests and did more hits. Guess that’ll be the last we see of her for a while performing too

Posted by: Voodoo 13th February 2023, 12:34 PM

I think her pre-recorded vocals were nothing impressive.

Posted by: -Jay- 13th February 2023, 01:41 PM

From my perspective Rihanna has never been a hugely energetic performer, so even if she wasn't pregnant I could imagine her having served this performance at the same sort of level in a non-pregnant scenario. So I think that's why I'm not disappointed by the performance, because it's largely what I'd expect from a Rihanna show - quite laidback, too cool for school sort of vibe.

I kind of liked the relative simplicity of the staging compared to previous years, where everything including the kitchen sink is thrown at it - which can be great! - but that doesn't seem to be Rihanna's style either, so I think the staging worked for her as an artist. I still found it engaging. The rising platforms were quite impressive looking for instance.

I think the camera work was excellent throughout, as were the dancers!

I've read lots of people say they felt it looked like Rihanna didn't want to be there or that she didn't enjoy it.... personally I think she seemed into it in her own way, she doesn't have to be effusive! She looked happy to me.

Her back catalogue is so impressive, I was satisfied with the choices even if some wouldn't have been up there for me (I'm not particularly into Run This Town or Pour It Up). Bitch Better Have My Money as opening song is something I didn't expect! I do think Umbrella and We Found Love deserved longer segments in the megamix though, they felt over with too soon.

I'm quite ambivalent about it overall! I was certainly not blown away, but I'm not thinking it was the worst Half Time show ever either. I think "it was fine" summarises it nicely and I don't mean that negatively, but in a neutral way.

Congrats to Rihanna on baby #2 on the way!

I largely agree with this.

Having now actually seen it for myself, I really enjoyed seeing her on stage again (her presence is INSANE!) and she actually did more than I expected after seeing a lot of comments saying she didn't do anything/much. The camera work is probably the best camera work I've seen for a SuperBowl Halftime performance! Some absolutely gorgeous shots. I absolutely loved a lot of the transitions in the songs too, specifically that transition from 'We Found Love' into 'Rude Boy' *.*

It was pretty much exactly how I would expect a pregnant Rihanna SuperBowl Halftime show to be tbh. My main criticism is the same as everyone else, only 2 songs that were pre-2011? They could EASILY have removed 'Pour It Up' and slotted in a 'Disturbia'/'Don't Stop the Music' medley of some sort and although I get why she performed it, I would have removed 'Run This Town' and thrown in 'Pon de Replay'!

But yeah, I'll be going back to this! Thoroughly enjoyed it and I absolutely LOVED she performed 'Bitch Better Have My Money'!

My aunt saw Rihanna live during the Unapologetic tour and from the videos I saw it had the same vibe as her Super Bowl performance. It's not the absolute spectacle of some of the best, but I was vibing with her, and I don't think it should be treated as a crime to do so 🤷‍♂️

2005-2012 was an album a year if you include the Good Girl Gone Bad rerelease.

I totally expected her label to capitalise on the "hype" and release a Highlights singles collection. It's a no-brainer to do so. It could spend years in the upper part of the albums chart. drama.gif

Rihanna opened her Super Bowl Half-time show rubbing her cute baby bump.

Social media has since gone ablaze with fans saying that they will never get another album from the award winning artist.

My other half said there was a big reveal. I spotted her bump within seconds, then was confused as I couldn't recall if she was pregnant or not... 🤣 Got to the end and apparently the bump reveal was it...

She has SO MANY hits. Why not remind people of Unfaithful, if you're barely able to dance? I don't want to hear your features, give me your actual hits!

(I wasn't expecting anything amazing, I've never seen Rihanna as a particularly amazing live artist tbf. But... She DOES have bops. Where were they?)

I was happy with the performance overall! As soon as I noticed she was pregnant I knew she wouldn't be giving much choreo, but she had plenty of backup dancers to make up for it, so I wasn't disappointed there. The floating stages were really cool, really unique for the Super Bowl too! The lack of guests didn't bother me at all, I actually thought it was refreshing to have just one artist do the entire show. She didn't need anyone else with her IMO. As for the set list, with her discography there was always going to be some wrong choices and glaring omissions. Aside from Pour It Up I enjoyed every song she did...even BBHMM which is usually one of my least faves! All Of The Lights was an awesome surprise too. I was disappointed that she paid dust to Good Girl Gone Bad (besides Umbrella) and her first two eras completely. But I'd be hard pressed to make enough cuts from the setlist to fit those in.

For all we know the performance might not have changed very much if she wasn't pregnant. I'd be curious to know either way!

I love Pour It Up, it's a vibe

And let's be real, I'd be over the moon if Gaga ever found love and became an actual mother. Nevermind if it means she would have a long break from acting and performing.

Run This Town would've been the ONE feature I woulda kept. That felt like a MOMENT.

If there's no tour and no album any time soon, then why did she bother with such a high-profile performance? It doesn't make much sense. confused.gif

LMAO. Is that a joke? God forbid a woman gets pregnant, huh?

Why? Was it an "accident"? confused.gif
