The BBC, other broadcasters and Wimbledon organisers are in talks now apparently and it seems the favoured solution is to use the middle Sunday for play and have both ladies and men's finals on the Saturday so the tournament ends before the WC final. US broadcasters who show the mens tennis final, live, are against it starting earlier on the sunday as that would mean 5-8am in the US.

It seems inevitable that the US will get to host their second World Cup before England get it again. I assume the US broadcasters will agree that no matches should have kick-off times that are inconvenient for European audiences. |

Going back to this:
Wimbledon look as though they have addressed the issue though by making their start time 1pm. I still think it is bizarre that FIFA want their final to kick off at 4pm though. Unless it is a long final the tennis will finish by 4pm and the BBC will be able to show both on BBC1. Maybe have a build up programme to the World Cup on BBC2? In a way it could mean a big audience for the tennis as there will be a lot of people tuning in towards 4pm for the football. |

It will be 6pm in Moscow so it could easily start two or even three hours later. It will be 5pm in most of Europe and late morning or earlier on the American continent, In the parts of Asia where FIFA are keen to develop the game it will be the early hours of Monday morning. Therefore, it doesn't seem particularly ideal for television audiences in any part of the world likely to get the best viewing figures. |

Very odd. A few years ago when the Champions League final was in Moscow I'm pretty sure it kicked off at UK 8pm, meaning that it was well past 1am local time by the time it was over. That was admittedly the year of the all-English final, but I'd imagine it would have been the same regardless.
Playing on the middle Sunday at Wimbledon seems like the most sensible solution. They can't risk a clash for two of the half dozen biggest sporting events of year, even if there's no British representation in either. |

Usually the World Cup kick off is 7pm or 8pm on a Sunday, I didn't know the final has been pushed forward to 4pm.
Easily sorted, BBC2 will transmit the Men's final. |

Does anyone remember what time the USA 1994 World Cup final kicked off? the tournament was held in America that year so it must have had an unusual start time as well.

It kicked off at 12:30pm local time, 8:30pm UK time.. I think that was partly to maximise the television audience by avoiding a kick-off time that would have been in the early hours of the morning in Europe. |

This is only 2 weeks away now! I hope the Wimbledon final and the World Cup final don't over run, I think it's a stupid decision from FIFA to have the World Cup final kick off so early on a Sunday.

Wimbledon won't move the men's final due to tradition that it always starts at 2pm they don't have contractual obligations for that start time though.

By tradition, the Men's Singles final was always on a Saturday. They were happy to change that.
