Right. I think I've fully absorbed this album and my verdict is that it has a few good tunes - namely The Writer, Wish I Stayed, Starry Eyed and Under the Sheets. Most of the rest is kinda dull after a few listens. Not bad at all for a debut. Hopefully she should turn into a very good artist in time.

I'm shocked at the mixed reviews. This album is stunning! Several listens in and I'm thoroughly loving it...and I hate to admit it, but I was wrong about Ellie sad.gif Marina is the better popstar by far, but Ellie has the better album here.

10 Guns and Horses
10 Starry Eyed
11 This Love (Will Be Your Downfall) - AMAZING. For me this has to be the song of the year thus far.
10 Under the Sheets
10 The Writer
09 Every Time You Go
10 Wish I Stayed - I thought I'd really hate this, but they actually did it justice!
10 Your Biggest Mistake
11 I’ll Hold My Breath - The production on this is fantastic! So fantastically 80s - the chorus hella reminds me of Britney - Amnesia. I'm shocked there isn't more love for it tbh ohmy.gif
10 Salt Skin

I'm actually in complete shock. I never thought this album would be good, let alone one of the best albums I can remember in quite a while. This is on a pretty similar level to Florence's album for me...except this tops it by not having a single track I'd skip (to be fair to Flo, her album is longer, and would be perfect without I'm Not Calling You A Liar). This will probably end up being my album of the year.

Is it me or is anyone else starting to get tired of underwhelming British female singers being agressively marketed? That aside, I do quite like "Under The Sheets", but "Starry Eyed" is bland-pop personified. I give her a year...

I do believe me and AaronTM were correct! tongue.gif

I'm still in love with this album, all the songs are 10/10; except 'Salt Skin' which I'd give a 9. 'Your Biggest Mistake' is my standout song.

Most of it is dull. I can see it wearing thin very quickly.

08 Under the Sheets
08 The Writer
05 Every Time You Go

Meeting you was fate,
becoming your friend was a choice,
but falling in love with you I had no control over.

I wouldn't say anything on this album is above average.

The album isn't great but I do rather like it. It tails off a bit but it's still an enjoyable listen...

The production is the true star on this album IMO, as someone predicted a few pages back...Ellie's voice is fantastically charming, but it does wear thin at points.

I like Lights but only in an 8/10 sort of way. As far as hyped Brit indie girls' albums of the last couple of years go, Lungs is in a completely different league to everything else still for me. Lights and The Family Jewels both have a number of skippable songs.

On further reflection, I definitely prefer Lungs to this - if only because it maintains the same quality, but over a longer period. I think I can allow the existence of the pedestrian I'm Not Calling You A Liar given that...

On another note, I think my love for I'll Hold My Breath increased tenfold when I realised it stole the chorus synths off Last Christmas (THE ONLY GOOD BIT and all that).

Completely disagree. Lungs never even entered my conciousness I disliked it so much. Family Jewels is way ahead of anything since Bat for Lashes' Two Suns album and may even out shine it given time.

Your love for something increased when you realised it ripped something off? That usually has the opposite effect on me. I hate unoriginality.

You may well be right. I still haven't killed off the singles yet. It may only be a matter of weeks before I find them dull too.

Mainly because it has finally rendered Last Christmas redundant for me. One of those songs I wouldn't tolerate without the 80s-tastic production sad.gif

I'd like to see her singles as:

1) Under The Sheets
2) Guns and Horses
3) Under The Sheets (re-release)
4) Saltwater.
