Coldplay spend a second week at number one!
Congratulations to Coldplay, who spend a second week at number one with Hymn For The Weekend. Zara Larsson's Lush Life climbs 2 places to #2. It has spent the last 8 weeks between #2 and #4. For the first time in 10 weeks, the top 2 is entirely devoid of David Bowie's music as Ashes To Ashes falls one place to #3. Meanwhile, this week's UK number one I Took A Pill In Ibiza falls one place to #4 but becomes the first UK number one of 2016 to reach the top 10 in my personal chart. Sigala earns his third top 5 hit with Say You Do. If it reaches number one, it will be Sigala's third (after Easy Love and Sweet Lovin'), Imani's first and DJ Fresh's second (after his Ella Eyre collaboration Gravity). When We Were Young falls one place to #6, while Girls Like climbs one place to #7. Absolute Beginners falls two places to #8, No is a non-mover at #9, and Lazarus remains static at #10 for a third week. Other notable tracks Suede are edging ever closer to getting their first top 10 hit, as Tightrope climbs 2 places to #11. Meanwhile, Desire climbs two places to #15. Both the original and the Tove Lo version are counted under the same song and run, which means Tove Lo's peak is still of #34 from her feature on Heroes (We Could Be). You would think from its title that the song is a cheap cover of David Bowie's Heroes but it's not. Meanwhile, David Bowie's Heroes falls three places to #17, the position at which Desire was last week. Ain't Got Far To Go climbs 7 places to #18. It still has got far to go, however, if it wants to join Hold My Hand, Don't Be So Hard On Yourself and Take Me Home to become her fourth number one. Faded climbs 11 places to #19. It is the first hit in this chart for Alan Walker, who was born in Northampton. Other people born in Northampton include Alan Carr, Joan Hickson, James Morrison, Princess Diana, Thom Yorke and me. Cheap Thrills soars 34 places to re-enter the top 40 at #24. Like Desire, both the album and Sean Paul version are counted under the same song and run. Blonde and Craig David are this week's highest new entry at #28 with Nothing Like This. It follows their three first singles, I Loved You, All Cried Out and Feel Good (It's Alright), which all went to number one, and Cast A Spell, which peaked at #8 and fell down the chart very quickly. Among those four, All Cried Out is the only one to not have debuted at its peak. Ariana Grande enters at #68 with Dangerous Woman. Her previous entry, Focus, peaked at #53 and spent three weeks in the chart. The Chainsmokers and ROZES enter at #82 with Roses. It is shaping up to be their second hit, and fortunately is a vast improvement over the atrocious #SELFIE. The Chainsmokers subsequently become only the third act (after Chris Brown and Jason Derulo) to enter the chart after creating one of the 10 worst songs ever made. David Bowie's Young Americans enters at #88, replacing Drive-In Saturday which drops out after two weeks in the chart. Subsequently, he still has 27 songs in this week's top 100. On Thursday, iconic magician/comedian Paul Daniels sadly died of a brain tumour, aged 77. Subsequently, we have a few magic themed songs in the top 100 this week. Coldplay re-enter at #43 with Magic, four places above its original peak, Take That's Could It Be Magic? re-enters at #96 and Little Mix's Black Magic climbs 6 places to #44.
