In December 2013, he was nominated for the 2014 Brit Critics' Choice Award and the BBC's Sound of 2014 poll, both of which he won.

He released his debut studio album, In the Lonely Hour, in May 2014 on Capitol Records UK. The lead single, "Lay Me Down", was released prior to "La La La". The second single, "Money on My Mind", became his second number one single in the UK. The fifth single, "Like I Can", reached number nine in the United Kingdom. He made his United States debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, followed by a performance on Saturday Night Live in March 2014.

In December 2014, Smith was nominated for six Grammy Awards, and at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2015 he won four: Best New Artist, "Stay with Me" for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and In the Lonely Hour for Best Pop Vocal Album. At the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, Smith received three Billboard Awards: Top Male Artist, Top New Artist, and Top Radio Songs Artist. His musical achievements have also led him to be mentioned twice in the Guinness World Records.

For his and Jimmy Napes' song "Writing's on the Wall", the theme for the James Bond film Spectre (2015), Smith won the Golden Globe Award and the Academy Award for Best Original Song. His second studio album, The Thrill of It All, was released in November 2017, and debuted atop the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. Biography

Ne-Yo
Shaffer Chimere Smith (born October 18, 1979), known professionally as Ne-Yo, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor.

Ne-Yo gained fame for his songwriting abilities when he penned his 2004 hit "Let Me Love You" for singer Mario. The single's successful release in the United States prompted an informal meeting between Ne-Yo and Def Jam's label head, and the signing of a recording contract.

Ne-Yo's debut album was In My Own Words, released in 2006. The album was critically successful, reaching number one on the Billboard 200. It is certified platinum in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan and Australia. Ne-Yo's first single "Stay", was released in September 2005. The song was a success on the R&B charts, but failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. His second single, "So Sick" was first released in November 2005. In the US, it was a commercial success, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and was also certified platinum four times in the US and twice in Japan. "When You're Mad" and "Sexy Love" were released afterwards from the album in 2006, reaching number 15 and number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. In April 2007, Ne-Yo released his second studio album, Because of You, and was the second number one platinum-selling album debuted on the US Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album at the 2008 Grammy Awards. Ne-Yo's third studio album, Year of the Gentleman, was released internationally in August 2008. The album was nominated for Best Contemporary R&B Album and Album of the Year at the 2009 Grammy Awards, "Closer" for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, and "Miss Independent" for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song. Year of the Gentleman has been certified platinum twice in the US, selling two million copies, also platinum three times in the UK and once in Japan. The third single, "Mad," peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Ne-Yo's fourth studio album, Libra Scale was released in November 2010. Though Libra Scale reached number one in the UK R&B Singles and Albums Charts, number 9 on the US Billboard 200, it sold less than the previous albums. Three single were released from the album, UK number-one hit "Beautiful Monster", as well the R&B singles "Champagne Life" and "One in a Million". Ne-Yo released his fifth album, R.E.D. in November 2012. His mainstream lead single "Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)", released in July 2012, was certified platinum in US, sold over two million copies. Ne-Yo released his sixth album Non-Fiction in January 2015. His upcoming seventh album, entitled Good Man, was expected to be released sometime in 2017, with "Another Love Song" released in May 2017 as the album's first single.

On July 12, 2016, Ne-Yo was a guest judge on NBC's America's Got Talent judge cuts. He currently serves as judge for the reality competition series World of Dance with Jennifer Lopez and Derek Hough.

Stefflon Don
Dancehall/rap artist Stephanie Allen (aka Stefflon Don) switches between dancehall patois, grime verses, and honeyed vocals with ease and confidence. Originally born in Birmingham to Jamaican parents, Allen moved to the Netherlands when she was five years old. Her family remained in Holland for nine years before moving to Clapton, East London when she was 14. As Allen grew older she knew she wanted to pursue music, taking on the initial strategy of covering other artists' work and spinning it in new directions; the first two efforts that gained traction came in 2015, when Allen covered Wretch 32's "Six Words" and Section Boyz's "Lock Arff." As Allen became more popular, she collaborated with a number of prominent artists including Lethal Bizzle, Sneakbo, Jeremih, and Wretch 32 on his 2016 album Growing Over Life. 2016 also saw the release of her debut mixtape, Real Ting, which featured Jeremih returning the favor as a guest artist. As 2016 drew to a close, Stefflon Don was highlighted on the BBC's Sound of 2017 list. The following year, Allen signed to Universal Music, which created a new subsidiary -- 54 London -- and made her the first signee. - iTunes

It really depends what it sounds like. If it's not very commercial which is possible it won't make number one. But I think Drake will be going for a huge hit for the summer.

A London-based grime MC of Ghanaian heritage, Stormzy launched his career clashing at youth clubs around his hometown. His performances evolved from grime-only music that showed a love of artists like Skepta to more rap-oriented material that reflected Stormzy's growing appreciation for artists like Drake. Late in 2013 he began uploading his "Wicked Skengman" series of freestyles over classic grime beats; in 2014, he made his official debut with the EP Dreamers Disease. A year later he released the single "Know Me From" along with "WickedSkengMan 4," the first track in his "WickedSkengMan" freestyle series and a Top 20 hit in the U.K. That December, Stormzy performed the single's B-side, "Shut Up," at a match between heavyweight boxers Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. The song jumped into the Top 40 following the broadcast, and the rapper launched a campaign to have the song top the charts during Christmas. This boosted the track to the number eight position, and the number one position on the R&B singles chart. Before returning to the studio to record his debut LP, he released non-album single "Scary" in the spring of 2016. Stormzy returned in 2017 with Gang Signs & Prayer (#Merky Records), which featured the single "Big for Your Boots" and appearances by Kehlani, MNEK, and Ghetts. - iTunes

Biography

East London-born rapper Yxng Bane specializes in dancehall-infused R&B, but doesn't shy away from blending genres from across the board. Bane first appeared online in 2015, when he began uploading tracks to SoundCloud; the play counts quickly rose, giving him a platform to make music videos. At first, Bane was reluctant to reveal his identity, choosing to hide his face behind a mask. However, the mask was eventually removed, revealing his face to the public for the first time in the video for "Lone Wolf/Pronto," which saw release in the run-up to his debut EP, 2016's Full Moon. The following year, Bane geared up for the release of his next project, Bane of My Existence (aka B.O.E.), leading with the single "Fine Wine" in collaboration with Kojo Funds. - iTunes

Biography

Norwegian pop singer/songwriter Sigrid followed her elder siblings into the music business, signing a major-label deal with Island at just 20 years of age. Born Sigrid Solbakk Raabe on September 5, 1996 into a music-loving family and brought up in the sunny seaport of Ålesund in western Norway, about 300 miles from Oslo, she was the youngest of three siblings, each of whom had their own musical career. Her sister Johanne was a classically trained singer who had studied in Italy and Spain, while her brother Tellef had tasted indie success at home with his own band. Growing up influenced by classic artists like Joni Mitchell, Chet Baker, and Neil Young, she was taught to play the piano at an early age by her grandmother and guitar by her brother, and for ten years was a dancer, studying several different styles.

After a stint in her brother's band, Sigrid turned her hand to songwriting and launched her solo career in October 2013 at the tender age of 16 with the single "Sun," which saw her featured on NRK's (Norwegian state television) hip tastemaker show Urørt (Untouched). Two further singles, "Two Fish" and "Known You Forever," alongside spellbinding performances at several major European music festivals, sealed her reputation as a superbly talented songwriter and performer. With her rich, powerful, versatile voice and elfin good looks, she seemed ready-made for pop superstardom, and the ensuing bidding war finally saw her signed to Island. She delivered on the promise with her epic, anthemic debut single for the label, "Don't Kill My Vibe," released in February 2017. Co-written and produced by Martin Sjølie (Ella Henderson, Sam Smith), it was unveiled with much fanfare on BBC Radio 1, becoming their "Hottest Record in the World," and immediately racked up millions of plays on streaming services. The equally successful single "Strangers" followed that November.

Biography

North London rapper Mostack shifted from making music about the streets he was raised on to focusing on deeper personal issues and broader social themes. Mostack first appeared on the scene in 2014, when he released the single "No Buddy" through Link Up TV's YouTube channel. The single quickly caught the attention of U.K. rap fans, leading to a tour in support of Stormzy in late 2015. The following year Mostack dropped his debut mixtape, Gangster with Banter, reaffirming his playful yet serious approach. He spent the rest of 2016 and early 2017 touring and building his fan base. In the summer of 2017, he dropped his second mixtape, High Street Kid, which featured guest spots from J Hus, Mist, Jiggz, and Krept. - iTunes

what's the appeal of this Vroom track? really can't see it, that he quotes Ricky Martin's Livin' la vida loca?

same with the Moshtack, can urban fans tell all these songs apart??

Posted by: Bré 6th April 2018, 03:16 PM

Damn at 'Vroom' climbing, I quite enjoyed the brief amusement that Yxng Bane's entire solo top 40 career was 2 songs spending a single week at #40 tongue.gif (I like it quite a lot though so here for it being a hit, certainly a lot better than the pretty limp 'Rihanna'. That is a Sean Paul sample at the end of the song right??)

Posted by: Cqmerqn 6th April 2018, 03:16 PM

Taylors streams are massively inflated by the video on Spotify which doesn’t count towards the chart, hence why it isn’t top 40!

Biography

Kojo Funds emerged amid a number of rap artists mixing Afro-swing, dancehall, and R&B in the late 2010s. He was born and raised in East London -- an area that also produced Dizzee Rascal, Kano, and Wiley -- but was also of Ghanaian and Dominican Republic heritage, and African and Caribbean influences would later influence his work. Kojo's music career began in 2014 when he started freestyling with friends, and their encouragement led him to take his musical aspirations seriously. His first track, "Want from Me," was released in 2014 and featured his melodic rap style as well as demonstrating the impact of dancehall on his music. In 2016, Kojo released the track that would prove to be his big break. He collaborated on "Dun Talkin'" with Abra Cadabra, and it won the Mobo 2016 Best Song Award. - iTunes

Sheeran was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk. He attended the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford as an undergraduate from the age of 18 in 2009. In early 2011, Sheeran independently released the extended play, No. 5 Collaborations Project. After signing with Asylum Records, his debut album, + (read as "plus"), was released in September 2011. It topped the UK and Australian charts, reached number five in the US, and has since been certified seven-times platinum in the UK. The album contains the single "The A Team", which earned him the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. In 2012, Sheeran won the Brit Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. "The A Team" was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards, where he performed the song with Elton John.

His second studio album, x (read as "multiply"), was released in June 2014. It peaked at number one in the UK and the US. In 2015, x won the Brit Award for Album of the Year, and he received the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. His single from x, "Thinking Out Loud", earned him two Grammy Awards at the 2016 ceremony: Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. In May 2016, x was named the second best selling album worldwide in 2015.

Sheeran's third album, ÷ (read as "divide"), was released in March 2017. The album debuted at number one in the UK, the US and other major markets. The first two singles from the album, "Shape of You" and "Castle on the Hill", were released in January 2017 and broke records in a number of countries, including the UK, Australia and Germany, by debuting in the top two positions of the charts. He also became the first artist to have two songs debut in the US top 10 in the same week. By March 2017 Sheeran had accumulated ten top 10 singles from ÷ on the UK Singles Chart, breaking Scottish DJ Calvin Harris's record of most top 10 UK singles from one album. His fourth single from ÷, "Perfect", reached number one in the UK and Australia, while "Perfect Duet", an acoustic version featuring Beyoncé, reached number one in the US. Sheeran appeared on Debrett's 2017 list of the most influential people in the UK.

As an actor, Sheeran has portrayed recurring roles on The bast*rd Executioner and Home and Away. He also appeared as a Lannister soldier on Game of Thrones.

same with the Moshtack, can urban fans tell all these songs apart??

Um, yeah? I could sit here and say loads of pop songs sound the same but that would be dismissive and patronising.

Can Radio 1 please stop with the Beyoncé version of this. I mean, they don't need to play the song at all any more, but if they insist on doing so could they at least play the superior original which is, yanno, the one people are actually still listening to... laugh.gif

Biography

Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar Duckworth (born June 17, 1987) is an American rapper and songwriter. Born and raised in Compton, California, he embarked on his musical career as a teenager under the stage name K-Dot, releasing a mixtape that garnered local attention and led to his signing with indie record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). He began to gain recognition in 2010, after his first retail release, Overly Dedicated. The following year, Lamar independently released his first studio album, Section.80, which included his debut single, "HiiiPoWeR". By that time, he had amassed a large Internet following and collaborated with several prominent artists in the hip hop industry, including The Game, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg.

His major label debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city, was released in 2012 by TDE, Aftermath and Interscope Records to critical success. It debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart and was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The record contained the top 40 hit singles "Swimming Pools (Drank)", "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe" and "Poetic Justice". Lamar won his first Grammy Award for "i", the lead single from his critically acclaimed third album To Pimp a Butterfly (2015). The album drew on free jazz, funk, soul, and spoken word, debuted atop the charts in the US and the UK, and won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album at the 58th ceremony. In 2016, Lamar released untitled unmastered., a collection of unreleased demos that originated during the recording sessions for Butterfly. He released his fourth album Damn in 2017; its lead single "Humble" topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Lamar has received a number of accolades over the course of his career, including seven Grammy Awards. In early 2013, MTV named Lamar the number one "Hottest MC in the Game", on their annual list. Time named Lamar one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2016. Aside from his solo career, Lamar is also known as a member of the West Coast hip hop supergroup Black Hippy, alongside his TDE label-mates and fellow South Los Angeles-based rappers Ab-Soul, Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q.

SZA
Solána Imani Rowe (born November 8, 1990), known professionally by SZA (/ˈsɪzə/; short for either "Sovereign Zig-Zag Allah" or "Savior Zig-Zag Allah"), is an American R&B singer and songwriter. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, later relocating to Maplewood, New Jersey. In October 2012, Rowe self-released her debut EP, See.SZA.Run, which she then followed up with her second EP, titled S, in April 2013. In July 2013, it was revealed that she had signed to the hip hop record label Top Dawg Entertainment, through which she released Z, her third EP and first retail release, in April 2014.

SZA's debut studio album, Ctrl, was released on June 9, 2017, to universal acclaim from music critics. The album debuted at number three on the US Billboard Top 200 and spawned the platinum-certified singles "The Weekend" and "Love Galore", which features rapper Travis Scott. Ctrl received several Grammy Award nominations, including Best Urban Contemporary Album.

SZA is a neo soul singer whose music has been described as alternative R&B, with elements of soul, hip hop, minimalist R&B, cloud rap, witch house and chillwave. Rowe's lyrics are described as "unravelling", that revolve around themes of sexuality, nostalgia, and abandonment. SZA cites a variety of artists as influences, including Ella Fitzgerald, Meelah, Björk, Jamiroquai, and Lauryn Hill, among others. SZA also takes influence from non-musical artists, including filmmaker Spike Lee.

Biography

The Greatest Showman is a 2017 American period musical drama film directed by Michael Gracey, and written by Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya. The film is inspired by the story of P. T. Barnum's creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus, and the lives of its star attractions.

Principal photography on the film began in New York City in November 2016, and it premiered on December 8, 2017 aboard the RMS Queen Mary 2. It was theatrically released in the United States on December 20, 2017 by 20th Century Fox, seven months after the circus stopped operating, and has grossed $102 million worldwide.

The Greatest Showman received mixed reviews with praise for the cast (particularly Jackman), music, and production values, but criticism for the artistic license taken, with some reviewers calling it "faux-inspiring and shallow". At the 75th Golden Globe Awards, the film received three nominations: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actor – Musical or Comedy (Jackman), and Best Original Song ("This Is Me").

Biography

R&B-influenced pop singer/songwriter Bazzi hit the mainstream after finding viral success with his breakthrough single, "Mine." Born Andrew Bazzi to Lebanese-American parents in Dearborn, Michigan, he was a natural performer from a young age, imitating Elvis and Ricky Martin as a child and later playing oud and acoustic guitar. At the end of high school, he moved to Los Angeles with his father to pursue a music career. In addition to building an audience online, he appeared on Fancy Cars' single "Fun" in 2016. Influenced by the likes of Justin Timberlake and Bryson Tiller, he released his solo debut, "Alone," soon after. In 2017 he issued the singles "Sober," "Beautiful," and "Got Friends?," but it wasn't until "Mine" went viral with the help of an Internet meme that his audience grew. With its smooth, breezy sound, the romantic "Mine" became a streaming hit and landed Bazzi on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2018. - iTunes

Biography

M.O
British girl group M.O. (not to be confused with Danish singer/songwriter MØ) rode the early-2010s nostalgia for all things '90s, evoking the look and close-harmony pop-R&B sound of U.S. trios like TLC and SWV. The group was formed in London in 2012 by Frankee Connolly, Annie Ashcroft, and Nadine Samuels. Wise to the vagaries of the music industry and determined to be true to their own musical influences, the group members wrote, choreographed, and self-financed their own material, working with a succession of hip underground beatmakers.

They first came to prominence on the popular online urban youth video channel SBTV, performing an acoustic version of Brandy and Monica's classic hit "The Boy Is Mine" with Lady Leshurr. Further appearances were followed by a slew of singles including "Hot," "Wait Your Turn," "Ain't Got Time," and "For a Minute," each of which racked up hundreds of thousands of YouTube hits and repeated plays on BBC 1Xtra radio. In 2014, M.O. signed a publishing deal with Universal, and had their first taste of chart success with the single "Dance on My Own." A pair of EPs, Good Friends and Who Do You Think Of?, followed in 2016, and the title track of the latter entered the U.K. charts.

Birmingham duo Lotto Boyzz (aka Last of the Trill Ones, aka Ash X Lucas) cut their teeth making grime tracks before transcending the genre and pursuing their own style, Afro-bashment. Ash and Lucas met at a youth club in 2011, where they spontaneously decided to collaborate on a grime track. Their instant creative chemistry persuaded them to join forces, and they honed their craft over the following years until breaking through in 2016 with the singles "Hitlist" and "Bad Gyal." The duo garnered more attention in 2017 with the release of "No Don," which racked up millions of streams online. - iTunes

Really liking "Bad Vibe" still; really didn't expect it to even go top 40 though!

Bad Vibe wub.gif My song of the year so far.

I think hopes of it going Top 20 for them are over now, but I'm hoping it'll stick around for a while at least. I didn't even expect it to go Top 40 initially.

I'm actually impressed at the staying power of "Sanctify". I thought it'd peak lower and fall out much quicker. It's good that they're outperforming my expectations; I also expect the next single will be a barnstormer too. "Sanctify" is still growing on me.

I wasn't impressed with Sanctify when I first heard it but I like it a lot more now.

Pretty much the same, though I did quite enjoy it by the last chorus on first listen. I do think it builds well. The last chorus then sounds very euphoric.

Biography

Shawn Peter Raul Mendes (/ˈmɛndɛz/; European Portuguese: [ˈmẽdɨʃ]; born August 8, 1998) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. He attracted a following in 2013 when he began posting song covers on the video-sharing application Vine. The following year, he caught the attention of artist managers Andrew Gertler and Island Records A&R Ziggy Chareton, which led to him signing a deal with the record label.

Mendes went on to release an EP in July 2014 and his debut studio album Handwritten (2015), whose single "Stitches" reached the top 10 in the US and Canada, and number one in the United Kingdom. His second album, Illuminate (2016), was preceded by the single "Treat You Better". Both albums debuted atop of the US Billboard 200, making Mendes one of five artists to ever debut at number one before the age of eighteen. Mendes has headlined three world tours: ShawnsFirstHeadlines, Shawn Mendes World Tour and the Illuminate World Tour.

'Wasted Times' sounded nice enough on first listen, not something I'd go back to but I liked it.

Posted by: Midge 6th April 2018, 03:49 PM

Loving this Shawn Mendes track. I hope it goes on to more success than this though. If not then it seems his popularity is going slowly backwards.

Posted by: JosephAvery 6th April 2018, 03:49 PM

In My Blood holding up alright on its second week, I'm hoping it will go top 10 when the video's released (providing it's in the near future)!

good we have the 3-track chart rule but still doesn't stop the boring weeknd tracks counting for both the singles and album charts :/

Not a fan of In My Blood

Posted by: Midge 6th April 2018, 03:50 PM

The "I need somebody now, I need somebody now, someone to help me out" bit really sounds like "I never meant to start a war, I just wanted you to let me in, and instead of using force, I guess I should’ve let you in" bit in "Wrecking Ball"...

Not3s
Eschewing an academic career in favor of music, Hackney, East London born and bred rapper Not3s put all his time and effort into developing his career, rising from online obscurity to being signed by a major label in a relatively short time. Drawing inspiration not only from his local underground grime scene but also his Nigerian heritage, Not3s helped push the sound of Afro-bashment to a new level with the release of the track "Addison Lee" in early 2017. Racking up a huge amount of online views, the track was picked up by Relentless Records (home to Professor Green and Nadia Rose), which issued the release as Not3s' debut single a few months later. Two follow-up tracks, "Notice" and "Aladdin," appeared soon after. - iTunes

I enjoyed that first Weeknd song, had some cool production, but it's clearly an album track (or EP track I guess). Looking forward more to 'Call Out My Name' which I assume will sound more like a single.

Really really liking 'In My Blood' wub.gif I hope it can at least go top 10 but like 'Sanctify' I don't know if it's likely to be the kind of thing that will take off any more.

Posted by: Jack 6th April 2018, 03:52 PM

Still really enjoy 'Fine Line', a shame it wasn't a Top 10 hit for her sad.gif

Really excited for the album and to see what she puts out next wub.gif

Posted by: Midge 6th April 2018, 03:53 PM

Have to admit I'm bored of "Fine Line" now. It peaked slightly higher in my Hot 100 at #10 at least.

Biography

Justin Randall Timberlake (born January 31, 1981) is an American singer-songwriter, actor and record producer. Born and raised in Tennessee, he appeared on the television shows Star Search and The All-New Mickey Mouse Club as a child. In the late 1990s, Timberlake rose to prominence as one of the two lead vocalists and youngest member of NSYNC, which eventually became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time. Timberlake began to adopt a more mature image as an artist with the release of his debut solo album, the R&B-focused Justified (2002), which yielded the successful singles "Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body", and earned his first two Grammy Awards.

His critically acclaimed second album FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006), characterized by its diversity in music genres, debuted atop the U.S. Billboard 200 and produced the Hot 100 number-one singles "SexyBack", "My Love", and "What Goes Around... Comes Around". Established as a solo artist worldwide, his first two albums both exceeded sales of 10 million copies. He produced records and collaborated with other artists. From 2008 through 2012, Timberlake focused on his acting career, effectively putting his music career on hiatus; he held starring roles in the films The Social Network, Bad Teacher, In Time, and Friends with Benefits.

Timberlake resumed his music career in 2013 with his third and fourth albums The 20/20 Experience and The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2, exploring neo soul styles, partly inspired by the expansive song structures of 1960s and 1970s rock. The former became the best-selling album of the year in the US with the largest sales week, and spawned the top-three singles "Suit & Tie" and "Mirrors", while the latter produced the top-ten song "Not a Bad Thing". For his live performances, including the eponymous concert tour for the albums, he began performing with his band The Tennessee Kids, composed by instrumentalists and dancers. Timberlake voiced the lead character in DreamWorks Animation's Trolls (2016), which soundtrack includes his fifth Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping single, "Can't Stop the Feeling!" His fifth studio album Man of the Woods will be released in February 2018.

Among numerous awards and accolades, Timberlake is the recipient of ten Grammy Awards, four Emmy Awards, three Brit Awards, and nine Billboard Music Awards. Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2007 and 2013. His other ventures include record label Tennman Records, fashion label William Rast, and the restaurants Destino and Southern Hospitality.

I was kind of getting into "Jumanji" before I went on holiday but now I think it's a steaming pile of clam.

"Meant To Be" missing top 10 so far pleases me. I do think Bebe deserves it but that song is cringeworthy laugh.gif

"Say Something" still sounds great wub.gif Though I'm not hammering it out anymore. Spent 4 wks @ #1 in my Hot 100.

Biography

Aubrey Drake Graham (born October 24, 1986) better known by the stage name Drake, is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor. Drake initially gained recognition as an actor on the teen drama television series Degrassi: The Next Generation in the early 2000s. Intent on pursuing a career as a rapper, he departed the series in 2007 following the release of his debut mixtape, Room for Improvement. He released two further independent projects, Comeback Season and So Far Gone, before signing to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment in June 2009.

Drake released his debut studio album Thank Me Later in 2010, which debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and was soon certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His next two releases were 2011's Take Care and 2013's Nothing Was the Same, with certifications of quadruple and triple platinum respectively in the U.S.; the former also earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. They were followed by two mixtapes - the trap-influenced If You're Reading This It's Too Late, and a collaboration with Future for What a Time to Be Alive, in 2015, with both earning platinum certification in the U.S.

Drake released his fourth album, Views, in 2016, breaking several chart records in the process. The dancehall-influenced album sat atop the Billboard 200 for ten nonconsecutive weeks, becoming the first album by a solo male to do so in over 10 years. Its single "One Dance" topped the chart in several countries, including the U.S., the UK and Canada, where it became his first number-one single as the lead artist. This saw Drake leading the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard 200 simultaneously for eight weeks, coming close to a record held by Whitney Houston. It achieved quadruple platinum status in the U.S., and earned over 1 million album-equivalent units in the first week of its release. The single "Hotline Bling" secured him his second and third Grammy win, for Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Rap Song, at the organization's 59th ceremony.

Drake released the multi-genre More Life in 2017. Described by Drake as a playlist, it was his seventh consecutive number one on the Billboard 200, and set multiple streaming records.

Drake owns several Billboard chart records. He has the most charted songs (154) among solo artists in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, the most simultaneously charted Hot 100 songs in a single week (24), and the most Hot 100 debuts in a week (21). Drake also has the most number one singles on the Hot Rap Songs, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Rhythmic Charts. Alongside his Grammy Award wins, Drake has won three Juno Awards and six American Music Awards.

Drake has developed other ventures, including his OVO Sound record label with longtime collaborator Noah "40" Shebib. Drake acts as a producer, producing under the pseudonym of Champagne Papi. Using the "OVO" moniker, Drake has his own clothing line and his own program on Beats 1 Radio. He is also currently acting as the global ambassador for NBA franchise, the Toronto Raptors.

2. It has been pushed out of the top 10 on week 2 of ACR.

Biography

Zedd
Born Anton Zaslavski in southwest Germany, Grammy-winning electronic producer Zedd broke onto the European dance scene in 2010 with a remix of Skrillex's "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites." Though known for his glitch, pulsing production, Zedd's musical journey began in the acoustic realm. Raised in a musical family, the future producer cut his teeth on the piano at four years old and eventually moved on to drums and played in a rock band before being drawn into the digital world in 2009. Zedd built a name for himself with his remixes of artists like Lady Gaga, B.o.B, and Armand Van Helden while also releasing his own singles and EPs.

In late 2012, the young producer delivered his first full-length, the club-worthy Clarity, whose lead single, "Spectrum," shot to the top of the U.S. dance chart. One of the follow-ups, "Stay the Night," featuring Hayley Williams, reached number two on the British pop charts. The title track, featuring British pop singer Foxes on vocals, won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording in 2014. That same year, Zedd scored another hit with Ariana Grande's track "Break Free."

In 2015 he released his sophomore LP, True Colors, which presented more diversity with genres like rock and rap as influences. The collection featured Selena Gomez, Troye Sivan, and Logic among its guests, and topped the Billboard dance/electronic chart. An international tour in support of the album followed. In 2017, he issued the single "Stay," featuring Canadian singer Alessia Cara on vocals. The following year, he paired with country sensation Maren Morris for the single "The Middle," which topped Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. ~ Gregory Heaney & Neil Z.

Maren Morris
Maren Morris is a singer and songwriter whose music bridges the gap between hard country, classic rock, and hip-hop-influenced pop; she has enjoyed success as both a tunesmith and a performer. Morris was born in Dallas, Texas on April 10, 1990 and she grew up with a love of music, saying she was always willing to belt out a tune on the family's karaoke machine by age ten. By the time she was 14, she had learned to play guitar and began playing professionally, self-releasing a debut album, Walk On. Morris had struck a deal with Smith Music Group when she dropped her second album, 2007's All That It Takes; her songwriting was strong enough that she either wrote or co-wrote eight of the album's 13 tracks. Morris graduated high school and was attending the University of North Texas when she self-released her third full-length, 2011's Live Wire. A year later, she left Texas for Nashville, determined to shift her career into high gear.

After winning an "Artist on the Verge" prize at the New Music Seminar, Morris first got her foot in the door as a songwriter, signing a publishing deal with Yellow Dog and writing tunes for Tim McGraw ("Last Turn Home") and Kelly Clarkson ("Second Wind"). In addition, she ramped up her touring schedule, sharing stages with artists as diverse as Pat Green, Radney Foster, and Marty Stuart, and performing for artists in Europe and the United Kingdom as well as the United States. In 2015, Morris released a digital single titled "My Church," about the close connection between music and driving. The song became a viral hit, generating over 2.5 million streams in a bit longer than a month. The major labels in Music City took notice, and Morris signed a deal with Sony Music Nashville, who dropped a five-song EP featuring "My Church" in November 2015. Sony serviced "My Church" to country radio in anticipation of her full-length debut Hero, which appeared in June of 2016. The album hit number one on the country charts, and earned Morris a lot of attention: She was nominated for several Grammy awards, won CMA's New Artist of the Year, and earned a slot on Saturday Night Live late in 2016. During early 2017, she toured (both as a headliner and with Sam Hunt), and released a deluxe edition of Hero that included several bonus tracks. In October, Morris, in collaboration with Vince Gill, delivered the powerful single "Dear Hate," which was written in response to the mass shooting at Las Vegas' Route 91 Harvest Festival, a stage that she had played the night before that attack.

Grey
Grey are an American electronic music duo consisting of brothers Kyle and Michael Trewartha. They are best known for their debut single "Starving", a collaboration with American singer Hailee Steinfeld, featuring production work from Russian-German DJ Zedd. Kyle Trewartha was formerly known as Singularity, under which name he released numerous remixes and original tracks to SoundCloud. Their debut EP, Chameleon, was released on 29 September 2017. - Wikipedia

Biography

Abel Makkonen Tesfaye (Ge'ez: አቤል ተስፋዬ, ʾÄbel Täsfaye, born 16 February 1990), known by his stage name, The Weeknd (pronounced the weekend), is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer.

In late 2010, Tesfaye anonymously uploaded several songs to YouTube under the name "The Weeknd". He released three nine-track mixtapes throughout 2011: House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence, which were critically acclaimed. In 2012, he released a compilation album Trilogy, thirty tracks consisting of the remastered mixtapes and three additional songs. It was released under Republic Records and his own label XO.

In 2013, he released his debut studio album Kiss Land, which was supported by the singles "Kiss Land" and "Live For". His second album, Beauty Behind the Madness, which became his first number-one album on the US Billboard 200, included the number-three single "Earned It" and produced the number-one singles "The Hills" and "Can't Feel My Face". The songs have simultaneously held the top three spots on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart, making him the first artist in history to achieve this. Tesfaye has won three Grammy Awards and nine Juno Awards. In September 2016, the release of the third album Starboy was announced along with the release of the title track single "Starboy", which subsequently reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Biography

Marshmello
Enigmatic masked DJ/producer Marshmello makes groove-oriented, synth- and bass-heavy electronic dance music. In the spirit of other masked DJs like Deadmau5 and Daft Punk, Marshmello (whose real identity remains a mystery) appears wearing a full-head-covering marshmallow mask. Despite the anonymity, Marshmello's career blew up in 2015 when he began releasing tracks online, including remixes of Zedd's "Beautiful Now," Jack Ü's "Where Are U Now," and others. From there came shows at New York's Pier 94, Pomona, California's HARD Day of the Dead festival, and Miami Music Week. In 2016, Marshmello released a compilation of his previously released tracks, Joytime, which reached number one on a digital top electronic albums chart. Included on the album was the single "Keep It Mello," featuring rapper Omar LinX. He continued to perform and release singles throughout the year, later starting his own Joytime Collective record label. In 2017, Marshmello released collaborations with Ookay, Noah Cyrus, Khalid, and Blackbear. - iTunes

Biography

There has to be some credit given for this band's name alone -- co-founder John Gourley once explained it as an attempt to create a demi-mythic entity bigger than the individual members. Formed in Wasilla, Alaska, experimental indie pop group Portugal. The Man grew out of the ashes of Anatomy of a Ghost, a post-hardcore band whose vocalist and guitarist -- Gourley and Zach Carothers, respectively -- opted to continue working together. Rounding out the new band's lineup was keyboardist/singer Wes Hubbard, himself a veteran of other Alaskan groups, and the trio eventually relocated from Alaska to Portland, Oregon. Their initial existence in the Pacific Northwest was the typical hardscrabble life of a band with few resources, but drummer Jason Sechrist (formerly of Konmai Defense System) joined to form a more stable lineup. The band's profile received a boost from the Internet (the musicians made heavy use of MySpace and PureVolume for promotional purposes), and Portugal. The Man released an EP in 2005 before issuing their debut album, Waiter: You Vultures!, in early 2006.

In 2007, the group (whose lineup had once again reverted to three members, as Hubbard had left and was replaced by touring keyboardist Ryan Neighbors) issued Church Mouth, whose aggressive sound bore traces of Led Zeppelin and Jane's Addiction. The bandmates then opted to finance their third record themselves, drawing upon a wealth of guest musicians -- including trombonists, trumpeters, and violinists -- to create the eclectic Censored Colors. In 2009 the group released The Satanic Satanist, which became their first record to chart on the Billboard 200. They quickly followed it with the mellower and more electronic American Ghetto, and the band signed with Atlantic Records later in 2010.

Guitarist Noah Gersh joined the lineup for Portugal. The Man's 2011 summer tour, and the group recorded its major-label debut album, In the Mountain in the Cloud, in late 2011. Produced by John Hill and mixed by Andy Wallace, it was released in July of 2012. Around that time, Sleep Forever, a 13-minute short directed by Michael Ragen and shot entirely in Gourley's hometown, premiered on the Independent Film Channel. It would be the last recording for members Sechrist and Neighbors, who were replaced by drummer Kane Ritchotte and keyboardist Kyle O'Quin. Portugal. The Man enlisted Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) as producer for 2013's Evil Friends, which was released in June of 2013. They returned to the studio in 2014 with the Beastie Boys' Mike D for their eighth studio album. The recordings were eventually scrapped, however, and the band emerged in 2017 with fresh material via the self-produced Woodstock. Led by the single "Feel It Still," it was named in honor of the 1969 festival and their attempt to "say something that mattered" in a context of sociopolitical unrest.

Biography

Hertford-reared, Bristol-based singer/songwriter George Ezra possesses a deep, resonant, and emotionally weathered voice that belies his considerable youth. Influenced by similarly precocious troubadours like Bob Dylan and Hank Williams, Ezra was just 19 when he issued his debut single, "Budapest," a warm, amiable, and soulful slice of classy folk-pop that invoked names like Willy Mason, Ben Howard, Ray LaMontagne, and Tom Odell. That song, along with three others, appeared on his 2013 debut EP, Did You Hear the Rain? Increased touring and an appearance at Glastonbury preceded his second EP, Cassy O', which arrived in early 2014. "Budapest" was re-released in June of that year, followed a few weeks later by Ezra's debut LP, Wanted on Voyage. The album entered the U.K. charts at number three and eventually climbed into the top spot by year's end, earning him four Brit Award nominations and a North American tour supporting Sam Smith in early 2015. During this period he made his American television debut with appearances on Saturday Night Live and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, increasing his exposure. In April 2017, Ezra announced a "top secret" U.K. tour, during which he would debut new material. It was accompanied by the release of "Don't Matter Now," the lead single from his follow-up LP. A second single, "Paradise," was released in January 2018 followed by the announcement that Ezra's second album, Staying at Tamara's, would arrive in March of that year. - iTunes

Fast like Twista but hilarious like the Lonely Island crew, actor and writer David Burd became rapper Lil Dicky in 2013 when he dropped the megahit "Ex Boyfriend." Busting out of the Philadelphia suburbs, Burd graduated from the Richmond Robins School of Business in 2010 at the top of his class. A move to San Francisco came next, then he began working on Lil Dicky, writing rhymes, cutting demos, and storyboarding videos for two years before he showed them to the public. He first saw rapping as a way to transfer musical success into television and film writing success, but when he posted "Ex Boyfriend" and reached a million views within the week, hip-hop lover Burd realized his hip-hop dream was already a reality. The 2013 hit landed on the So Hard mixtape that same year, while "White Crime" ("Walk into the movie with my pants full/Twix, bag of chips, plus a Snapple") dropped in 2014. "Classic Male Pregame" landed a year later, along with Dicky's debut album, Professional Rapper, which featured guest appearances from Snoop Dogg, Fetty Wap, Hannibal Buress, and more, as well as the single "$ave Dat Money" with Fetty Wap and Rich Homie Quan. The effort debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 and topped the Top Rap, Comedy, and Independent Albums charts, becoming one of the biggest indie releases of the year. - iTunes

Well I have to say at least Rudimental got one week at #1.

Posted by: Midge 6th April 2018, 04:35 PM

So "These Days" HAS turned out to be an artificial number 1 then. I wonder if Drake would've fallen 1-3 without ACR this week, because if so this'd be the 9th week at 2 in a row for "These Days"!

Freaky Friday, the best #1 of the year so far laugh.gif

“These Days” now has spent the most weeks at #2 and “Freaky Friday” could end up opening NOW 100 if it keeps selling well

Biography

Calvin Harris
Adam Richard Wiles (born 17 January 1984), known professionally as Calvin Harris, is a Scottish record producer, DJ, singer, and songwriter. His debut studio album I Created Disco was released in June 2007, from which came his UK top 10 singles "Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls". In 2009, Harris released his second studio album Ready for the Weekend, which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and was later certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry within two months of its release. Its lead single "I'm Not Alone" became his first song to top the UK Singles Chart.

Harris rose to international prominence with the release of his third studio album 18 Months in October 2012. Topping the UK charts, the album became his first to chart on the US Billboard 200 chart (where it reached number 19). All eight of the album's singles, which were "Bounce", "Feel So Close", "Let's Go", "We'll Be Coming Back", "Sweet Nothing", "Drinking from the Bottle", "I Need Your Love" and "Thinking About You" reached the top 10 in the UK. At the time, Harris broke the record for the most top 10 songs from one studio album on the UK Singles Chart with nine entries, surpassing Michael Jackson. Harris released his fourth studio album Motion in November 2014. It debuted at number two in the UK and at number five in the US, and became Harris's second consecutive number one album on the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart. The album's first three singles "Under Control", "Summer" and "Blame" all topped the UK chart.

Harris has collaborated with numerous other recording artists. His collaboration with Rihanna "We Found Love" became an international success, giving Harris his first US number one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The two later collaborated on the singles "Where Have You Been" (2012) and "This Is What You Came For" (2016). In October 2014, he became the first artist to place three songs simultaneously on the top 10 of Billboard's Dance/Electronic Songs chart. He also became the first British solo artist to reach more than one billion streams on Spotify. Harris has received ten Brit Award nominations—three for Best British Male, and four Grammy nominations, winning a Grammy for Best Music Video in 2013. He received the British Academy's Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year in 2013 and at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards was named Top Dance/Electronic Artist. Additionally, Harris topped Forbes' list of the world's highest-paid DJs for three consecutive years from 2013 to 2015. One of the most successful musicians in contemporary British popular culture, Harris appeared on Debrett's 2017 list of the most influential people in the United Kingdom. Harris runs his own record label, Fly Eye Records.

You say artificial, but the chart has technically been artificial ever since streams were included in the chart. In that somebody's had to come up with the formula. And now all they've done is change the formula.

Definitely the best #1 of the year so far, not that it’s really saying much!

It's just the term we've used here since ACR was applied, so "Wild Thoughts", "Feels" and initially "New Rules" were also 'artificial' number 1s.

Can't say I like Freaky Friday, but it is quite catchy and is getting quite a bit of airplay now on Capital, so it was always destined for #1. Next week should be interesting though with Calvin/Dua One Kiss and another new track from Drake.

Fair enough. It just makes it sound like Rudimental didn't deserve their week at #1.

no surprises, it was always gonna be #1 when the missing streams were to be added

but pretty poor #1, still don't get its appeal, funny video but that's it

Posted by: Bré 6th April 2018, 04:45 PM

'Freaky Friday' isn't exactly a massive fave for me and I don't really get much out of it listening to it without the video, but it's a hell of a lot better than 'These Days' at least, and it's also miles better than Chris Brown's one other #1 (of all the Chris Brown songs that could possibly have been his one #1 as lead artist, 'Turn Up The Music' seems like an absolutely bizarre 'choice', basically his most formulaic and nothingy song ever. At least it wasn't 'Don't Wake Me Up' though which was utterly painful...) so I'm ok with it being #1 for now. x

Really liking the sound of this new Calvin song!

It reminds me of when I was a teenager and we had songs like the below doing the rounds and I'd rinse them for about a week so I can understand the equivalent happening with streams. Surely it'll have a fairly short lived chart run.

I would be here for this being a #1 tbh

~

It's just occurred to me that 'Freaky Friday' is actually the first #1 produced by DJ Mustard (as far as I can tell) ohmy.gif quite surprising that he's suddenly only got one now after he seemed to have gone quiet after being everywhere a few years back.

I think it is fair to say that though, them getting a week at #1 was a fluke even within the context of all #1s being somewhat arbitrary in the streaming era. Rudimental and Drake were both on their 10th chart week last week, so their week at #1 was determined not by their sales last week but by their performance in the previous 3 weeks (with Rudimental happening to have a gain at some point during that timeframe while Drake didn't, so they avoided ACR pretty arbitrarily).

I know these are just the rules we have to live with currently but it's still a little frustrating tongue.gif

Not even 'I woke up in Chris Brown's booooodyyyyy'? That seems like a pretty distinctive and memorable hook tongue.gif (especially compared to the zero effort chorus of 'Turn Up The Music').

Yeah Freaky Friday has catchy hook and the video but other than that it was awful as a song itself and it's shameful to see this song hit top 10 let alone let alone topped the chart.

It's just the term we've used here since ACR was applied, so "Wild Thoughts", "Feels" and initially "New Rules" were also 'artificial' number 1s.

Although at least "These Days" was ahead of "God''s Plan" on sales by some distance last week, as was "New Rules" ahead of "Despacito" on sales even in its first #1 week, so it''s possible to imagine a sales:streams ratio where both would have been #1 by 'legitimate' (read equal ratio) means.

By contrast, the weeks when "Wild Thoughts" and "Feels" were #1 they were outsold AND outstreamed by another record, "Despacito" in both cases, so could not have made #1 by any equal ratio being applied.

Fun chart fact: It was 10 years ago this week that The Courtneeners' 'Not Nineteen Forever' debuted and peaked, appropriately, at #19 magic.gif
