40. Taylor Swift - Wildest Dreams

Kicking off the top 40 we have the 5th single from the 1989 era, Taylor Swift's gorgeous and one of her best songs ever, Wildest Dreams heart.gif The track charted for two weeks at #40 with its removal from streaming harming its UK chart performance. A beautiful classic and the video is amaze too *.*

this is one of the hardest ones in this quiz with Rush being the only person to guess correctly! other guesses are bops like I'm A Mess and queen Eliza Doolittle. I did make this one rly hard kink.gif

Points:
Rush - 2pts

Wrong Guesses:
Chrissmith276 - Lily Allen
Mango - Alicia Keys
Jade - HAIM
SamJudd - Eliza Doolittle - Let It Rain
Bjork - Pink - What About Us
MrAndrewMan - Coldplay
PeteFromLeeds - Lana Del Rey
Riser - Bebe Rexha - I'm A Mess

39. Lady Gaga - Million Reasons

At 39 we have Lady Gaga's gorgeous Million Reasons, which spent a single week in the top 40 officially in the UK, whilst being a top 5 hit like Wildest Dreams in the US. This is such a beautiful moment from Joanne and this feels way more remembered than originally expected as it seemed to probs get the biggest catalogue boost for Gaga from the ASIB exposure <3

this one goes better with just over a third of you getting this correct! wrong guesses are mostly ppl just guessing artists and hoping for luck, whilst also having the ultimate screech song mentioned *.*

Points:
Chrissmith276, Jordan Lee, Mango, Jade, SamJudd, Bjork, Rush, Cremey, :') - 2pts

Wrong Guesses:
MrAndrewMan - Coldplay
PeteFromLeeds - Kesha
Dan1751 - Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody
Riser - Demi Lovato - Stone Cold

I'm pretty sure I guessed Taylor Swift for at least 2 songs - should've known there would be even more rotf.gif

Glad I got Gaga wub.gif

Posted by: Sharon 🍷 3rd May 2020, 03:41 PM

38. Lizzo - Juice

At 38 we have a major bop from Lizzo, with Juice still being my fave song by her. This was Lizzo's first top 40 hit in the UK and spent a week in the top 40 at 38 and 8 weeks top 75! an utter bop that I always get my life to *.*

this one was nearly a full house with 18 out of 22 getting it correct! the two wrong guesses were a forgotten dance hit and the devil's incarnate x

Points:
Chrissmith276, Jordan Lee, Mango, Jade, Dan, LewisGT, SamJudd, Vibe, Bjork, West, Coi, MrAndrewMan, PeteFromLeeds, Dan17F1, Riser, Rush, Cremey, :') - 2pts

37. Anne Marie - Heavy

At 37 we have Heavy from Anne-Marie, a bop that I actually forgot even went top 40 until I did this, it actually spent 3 weeks top 40 and peaked at 37! This isn't a major AM fave of mine but its still an underrated bop.

this was another pretty easy one with most of Anne-Marie's first era singles having v. similar single covers but with different colours and 17 of you got this one correct!

Points:
Chrissmith276, Jordan Lee, Mango, Jade, Dan, LewisGT, SamJudd, Bjork, West, Coi, MrAndrewMan, JimWatts, PeteFromLeeds, Dan17F1, Riser, Rush, :') - 2pts

Wrong Guesses:
N4yr - Pixie Lott

Posted by: Jade 🐠 3rd May 2020, 03:52 PM

The Lizzo cover was really distinctive for me! I immediately recognised that purple one as Anne-Marie too but had to double check the song.

Posted by: Sharon 🍷 3rd May 2020, 03:53 PM

36. Kelly Clarkson - I Do Not Hook Up

And completing our first set of 5 at 36 we have Kelly Clarkson's absolute bop I Do Not Hook Up, this is so underrated and deserved to be such a bigger smash. Kelly is one of my all time faves and this was the 2nd single from All I Ever Wanted and it underperformed compared to expectations, with only one week top 40 sad.gif 8 year old me bopped to this 24/7 at the time.

this one was a bit harder than the last couple with it being less recent but 10 of you still managed to get it correct, with two more recognising that this was Kelly! the wrong guesses are pretty much other successful female artists I stan.

Points:
Chrissmith276, Scene, Mack, SamJudd, Bjork, Riser, Rush, Cremey, :') - 2pts

Jade, N4yr - 1pt (got artist, no guess for song)
West - 1pt (got artist, went for my life would suck without you)

Wrong Guesses:
Jordan Lee - Meghan Trainor
Mango - Madonna
MrAndrewMan - Cheryl
PeteFromLeeds - Rachel Platten

I Do Not Hook Up was a great tune I agree!! smile.gif

Posted by: Jade 🐠 3rd May 2020, 03:56 PM

I had a strong feeling that was Kelly Clarkson and even searched up single covers to check, I somehow must have skipped over that one! laugh.gif

Pleased to have 1 point at least kink.gif

Posted by: Bjork 3rd May 2020, 03:57 PM

the Taylor one was nearly impossible biggrin.gif

Posted by: Sharon 🍷 3rd May 2020, 04:00 PM

35. Calvin Harris feat. HAIM - Pray To God

At 35, we have Pray To God which teamed up DJ superstar Calvin Harris and indie faves HAIM for this banger. This was my immediate fave from Motion and I'd acc say this is my fave Calvin song ever, HAIM elevate this much and its so euphoric, a fab team up <3 this peaked at 35 for two weeks and spent three weeks in the top 40, this deserved the success of Calvin's 18 months singles sad.gif

oops this one was def one of the hardest one, with only 4 of you picking up points and most leaving this blank!

Points:
Dan, SamJudd, Riser, Rush - 2pts

Wrong Guesses:
Chrissmith276 - Halsey
Mango - CharliXCX
Jade, West - Beyonce
MrAndrewMan - Eminem
PeteFromLeeds - Katy Perry

I also stupidly thought that there wouldn't be 2 singles by the same artist on here, which will probably screw me blink.gif

Posted by: Jade 🐠 3rd May 2020, 04:05 PM

At least I wasn't the only person to put Beyoncé kink.gif all I could guess was something related to that live-action version of The Lion King oops

I do love 'Pray To God' though wub.gif

Posted by: Bjork 3rd May 2020, 04:05 PM

I also assumed there would only be 1 per artist

oh Pray to God is also my fav Calvin song, but don't think I ever seen the single cover

Posted by: Sharon 🍷 3rd May 2020, 04:05 PM

34. M83 - Midnight City

And at 34, we have Midnight City, a song with male vocals ohmy.gif This is a banger of life and this spent four weeks top 40 in 2012, peaking at 34. A classic which I still listen to regularly <3

this one was better for you guys with just under half of you getting this correct, more than I was expecting *.* most the wrong answers are other indie artists/dance acts!

Points:
Chrissmith276, Scene, Dan, LewisGT, Coi, MrandrewMan, Dan1751, Riser, Rush, Cremey - 2pts

OK I see the theme now laugh.gif I think it would have been almost impossible to get the theme if you didn't get most of them right though!

Posted by: Sharon 🍷 3rd May 2020, 04:06 PM

for artists with more than one songs, I think there's only two artists that have more than one song (and one I just realised now oops who was only meant to have one song in this, so there was only meant to be one) so that won't affect y'all too badly!

Yeah I assumed this too, don't know why!

Posted by: Jade 🐠 3rd May 2020, 04:09 PM

I picked up on some of the chart peaks being a bit random - I thought it was near-misses of important chart positions at first, when I saw a #31, #21, #6 etc. - but then noticed that not all of them fit, so I just switched to them being in your EOY top 10 of each year or something, aw, see what it is now laugh.gif

Posted by: chrissmith276 3rd May 2020, 04:11 PM

Glad I got M83 but knew that completely threw my theme under the bus haha!

Posted by: Sharon 🍷 3rd May 2020, 04:12 PM

33. Amy Winehouse - Love Is A Losing Game

At 33 we have a classic iconic artist with Amy Winehouse's Love Is A Losing Game <3 This peaked at #33 after the singer's tragic death, with it originally peaking at 46 on original release. A fab song <3

once again just under half of you getting this correct with Amy'a tattoo helping y'all *.* most the wrong answers are Pink with 5SOS's bop SKH getting a mention too!

Points:
Chrissmith276, Mango, LewisGT, SamJudd, Bjork, Coi, MrAndrewMan, Rush, Cremey - 2pts

Jordan Lee - 1pt (got artist, went with you know I'm no good)

Posted by: Jade 🐠 3rd May 2020, 04:15 PM

OMG I put Amy at first and then changed to P!nk - that's another one I must have skipped over when searching for covers drama.gif ah well, not alone again

Posted by: Jordan Lee 3rd May 2020, 04:15 PM

Oh s***

I’ve just clicked on now and gotten the theme based on how these are being revealed.

Posted by: Sharon 🍷 3rd May 2020, 04:16 PM

32. Niall Horan - No Judgement

At 32 we have a recent hit (I think this may be the most recent song in this) with Niall's No Judgement. It's a pretty dreadful song as a half-functioning Ed Sheeran rip-off and one of his weaker songs but I stan Niall on the whole and I struggled to find any #32 peaking songs to include so I went with a recent one for y'all. This spent 2 weeks top 40!

this one saw just under a third of you get this correct with most people probs not getting this as it threw off their theme guesses kink.gif I did think more would get this cos of recency but then again its not rly a very memorable artwork haha!

Points:
Scene, Jade, LewisGT, Coi, MrAndrewMan, Dan17F1, Rush - 2pts

Chrissmith276 - Halsey
Mango - Sheryl Crow
PeteFromLeeds - Adele
Riser - Beyonce - XO

Annoyed I didn’t get the theme! Seems so obvious now but had no idea at the time haha
(such a good idea for a theme as well)

Posted by: chrissmith276 3rd May 2020, 04:22 PM

I basically put Halsey for every answer I didn't get haha on the basis I thought the theme was female artists/lead vocals!

Posted by: Jade 🐠 3rd May 2020, 04:24 PM

I put Shawn Mendes at first for that one but then Niall suddenly clicked, yay *.*

Posted by: Sharon 🍷 3rd May 2020, 04:24 PM

31. Nicki Minaj - Pills n Potions

At #31 we have the lead-single from The Pinkprint (right?) Pills n Potions. This is one of her better moments but honestly I haven't heard it in years. It peaked at #31 and managed two weeks top 40. I was gonna go with Anne-Marie's Birthday for this but I was struggling even more with #37 and I at least found an alternative for 31 so I went with Nicki.

10 of you got this one with the bunny ears being the big clue. However that threw some of y'all off with artists synonymous with that (Ariana) or covers that were quite similar (You Know Me)

Points:
Chrissmith276, Jordan Lee, Jade, Dan, SamJudd, Bjork, Coi, N4yr, Rush, Cremey, :') - 2pts

Wrong Guesses:
Mango - Ariana Grande
Mack - Robbie Williams - You Know Me

30. Hailee Steinfeld, Alesso, Florida Georgia Line & Watt

At #30 we have a bop of LIFE and one of my faves in this game from queen of the bops, Hailee Steinfeld *.* Let Me Go is such a banger and I was glad it at least made the top 40 here, where it spent 9 weeks between 30 to 39!! (I forgot it did that well *.*). This is a song that didn't receive massive peaks anywhere but feels bigger than it was, helped by its surprisingly gigantic +700m streams on Spotify! my fave Hailee song <3 (go stream I Love You's and her EP out on Friday!)

10 of you also got this one, I did think more would get this ngl! Wrong answers range from Miley Cyrus to Scouting For Girls, the latter who will never appear in one of my quizzes unless it's a worst of the 2000's theme x

Points:
Chrissmith276, Dan, LewisGT, SamJudd, Bjork, West, Coi, Dan1751, Riser, Rush - 2pts

Wrong Guesses:
Jordan Lee - Scouting For Girls
Mango - Miley Cyrus

I remember both the covers of 'Pills N Potions' and 'Anaconda' being in people's signatures on here at the time, so that stuck well in my memory!

Posted by: Sharon 🍷 3rd May 2020, 04:34 PM

29. The Pussycat Dolls - React

At #29 is another really recent song, which I think is the other most recent song alongside No Judgement (I think they're the only 2020 songs iirc), Pussycat Dolls' comeback spent one week top 40 but still it was a bigger success than most of us were expecting ngl. React was a fab comeback and its such a bop *.*

unlike Niall, recency really helps y'all here and we nearly had our first full house, with 21 out of 22 getting this correct! and the only person to get this wrong is the only one that's got every single one correct so far kink.gif

28. Amy MacDonald - This Is The Life

At #28 we have Scottish icon Amy MacDonald with the banger of life This Is The Life, an all-time classic that still sounds amazing <3 I was shocked when I found out this only peaked at #28 a few years ago, it feels so much bigger than that. It spent 8 weeks top 40 but a massive 21 weeks top 75!

9 of you get this one which I'm pretty impressed with, I thought this was one of the harder ones in the game. Pete unfortunately goes for the wrong Scottish icon so gets no points!

27. Beyonce - Broken-Hearted Girl

Idec this is top 3 in Beyonce's discography for me heart.gif At 27, we have Broken-Hearted Girl, one of the many singles from the amazing I Am Sasha Fierce and this peaked at 27 and spent two weeks top 40! I'm glad this managed to get to as high as 27, esp when it spent the previous two weeks before its week at 27 at 41! This song is just absolutely gorgeous, the lyrics are beautiful and relatable and the production builds so well in this song and Beyonce's vocals are killer <3 this is so damn underrated and will always remain a major fave of mine <3

another one which 10 of you get right! Also for the first time since Kelly, we have people managing to get the artist without getting the song so they score 1pt! I did think more ppl would get that this was Beyonce haha! Anyway quite a few people went for her Beautiful Lair collaborator Shakira instead!

Points:
Chrissmith276, Mango, Scene, SamJudd, Bjork, MrAndrewMan, N4yr, Rush, Cremey, :') - 2pts

Posted by: Sharon 🍷 3rd May 2020, 04:50 PM

26. Kesha - Praying

At 26 we have Kesha's Praying, a beautiful, poignant and incredible song which is my fave in her discography <3 Her vocals are insane on this and this song rly hits hard with all the context surrounding it <3 Praying didn't get the highest peaks but was a long running hit worldwide, with it peaking at 26 in the UK with 5 weeks top 40 (Ngl I did think it stayed longer in the top 40 in the UK sad.gif ).

this was one of the easiest covers to recognise in this quiz and most of you managed to successfully get this, with 19 of you getting full marks and Mack getting half points, with just two people not submitting an answer for this one. such a stunning artwork heart.gif

Points:

25. Panic at the Disco - I Write Sins, Not Tragedies

At 25 we go for a throwback from Panic with another banger, I Write Sins Not Tragedies *.* I'm always surprised how low this peaked as its still so well remembered nowadays, but it only peaked at 25 and spent three weeks top 40!

and it seems going a bit older didn't pay off for most of u guys here, with only 4 people scoring points! of the wrong answers, I do see BEP & Florence in this artwork haha so I get those guesses.

24. Tiesto, Jonas Blue & Rita Ora - Ritual

At 24 we have two of the hottest DJ's teaming-up with icon and slayer of the charts & tv talent shows Rita Ora for unsurprisingly, a fab bop *.* (tho of 2019 dance-songs, God is a Dancer and Carry On>>>>this). At 23 we have another banger, this time from the Arctic Monkeys *.* this was a minor hit for them, debuting and peaking at #23 and spent two weeks top 40 in total.

I'm glad a few of you at least managed to get this cos this was def one of the harder ones! Most people guess popular artists from the last couple of decades and the only song guess is for that Coldplay abomination x

22. DJ Fresh - Gold Dust

At 22 is one of my fave dance songs of the last decade, DJ Fresh's Gold Dust is still his best song and damn this song goes off, the chorus is a BOP and the verses are fire <3 This is remembered pretty well nowadays and is ALWAYS played when I go clubbing, a classic <3 anyway despite this peaking at #22, it was a pretty major hit with 21 weeks top 40 (split across two different chart runs in two different years), iconic *.*

ngl I thought esp with the colours and pretty distinctive artwork, more of you would get this one correct than you did but this is another low scoring answer here! this time we head to the mid 2000's for most of the wrong answers!

because you all know the theme by now is a song peaking at each position in the top 40 as this single cover edition is a top 40 rundown.

2 of you managed to get this (I'm glad some did aha!!) <3 whilst 1 person got another theme which fits so I'll give 10pts for that haha. most of the wrong answers are on the same theme unsurprisingly haha x here's all y'all guesses for the bonus and the points u got!

Chrissmith276 - Also I thought the theme was all female soloists, band or lead vocal but M83 - Midnight City is the odd one out here. Anyway, still going with my original theme just in case as cannot think of anything else plausible, hence my random guesses for the ones I did't know!! - 0pts
Jordan Lee - no songs are #1 hits - 0pts
Mango - I haven't got a clue about the theme, the only thing I can think of is that all the songs feature female vocalists.  - 0pts
Scene - I'm going to guess that the theme is: each song has peaked at a different position in the top 40. I know that all but two of the ones above ^ are correct and I'm pretty sure none of them have peaked at the same position in the chart. - 20pts
Jade - Bonus - these DEFFO seem like Sam faves all round, songs that are within your EOY top 10 for each year? - 0pts
Mack - n/a - 0pts
Dan - n/a - 0pts
LewisGT - no clue - 0pts
SamJudd - Theme is Female Artists/Empowerment - 0pts
Vibe - Females No Number 1’s - 0pts
Bjork - female singers/girl power - 0pts
West - As well, I am going to guess the theme is female empowerment. - 0pts
Coi - n/a - 0pts
MrAndrewMan - n/a - 0pts
JimWatts - the lead artists have all been on #1 singles, but not with these. - 0pts
Pete - n/a - 0pts
Dan1751 - Idk, they were all released after 2000? - 10pts
Riser - My guess for the theme is that you put similar names next to each other..(examples removed cos later spoilers x)..idk - 0pts
N4yr - My guess for theme is female vocalists - 0pts
Rush - I believe the theme is that there's one song peaking at every spot in the top 40, in the order 16-20, 11-15, 6-10, 1-5, 36-40, 31-35, 26-30, 21-25 - 20pts
Cremey - For the theme I have no idea...buzzjack multichart number ones?? - 0pts
Kath - top 40 hits sung by female artists/groups - 0pts

See you tomorrow 20-1 and the leaderboard reveal x heart.gif

Great theme would never have got that haha

surprise ohmy.gif let's have a couple more now

20. Britney Spears - If u Seek Amy

At #20 we have the third single from Britney's comeback album Circus, if u seek Amy <3 This sneaked a week in the top 20 and spent 7 weeks top 40! This was such a bop and an underrated Britney fave and ofc is iconic for the title's actual meaning, which I only found out a few years ago!! (oops at 8 year old me singing along to this song non-stop, Britney and Gaga being queens of unintentionally teaching me to swear x). the radio edit is also iconic <3

an artwork that was pretty clearly pop princess and legend Britney Spears managed to get most of you points, with 12 of you getting the right song! However quite a few people got Britney but went for the wrong song or didn't know which song this was for, with three Britney lead singles getting mentions! all in all, 18 of you picked up some points from this!

Points:
Jordan Lee, Mango, LewisGT, SamJudd, Bjork, West, MrAndrewMan, Dan17F!, Rush, Cremey, :') - 2pts

Chrissmith276, PeteFromLeeds - 1pt (artist not song)
Jade, Riser - 1pt (put Hold It Against Me instead of IUSA)
Mack - 1pt (put Womanizer instead of If U Seek Amy)
Vibe - 1pt (put Make Me instead of IUSA)
N4yr - 1pt (put Til The World Ends instead of IUSA)

19. Lady Gaga - LoveGame

At #19 we have LoveGame, the 4th single (in the UK) from her debut album The Fame. This is a bop but is by far away my least fave of the singles from The Fame and is definitely low-tier Gaga in singles for me, still a bop though. This peaked at #19 in the UK and spent 8 weeks top 40, a hit but way smaller than the other gigantic hits from this era. I unintentionally included Gaga twice in this and didn't even realise until the results oops.

I think this is the biggest surprise for me yet, I definitely expected more than two people to get this right (though I have just realised there's another artwork for this song as well oops but the one I went with is the cover I'm pretty sure I have on my CD single haha). Guesses include Xtina and Jade fails to get points for going for her favourite song

Points:
Jordan Lee, Rush - 2pts

Wrong Guesses:
Chrissmith276, Bjork - Christina Aguilera
Mango - Alanis Morrissette - Head Over Heels
Jade - Idina Menzel - Let It Go
MrAndrewMan - Fleur East
PeteFromLeeds - Ava Max
Riser - Demi Lovato - Heart Attack

18. Katy Perry - The One That Got Away

At #18 we have the sixth single of Katy's gigantic album Teenage Dream, with a slower turn on the album of The One That Got Away <3 This is a major Katy highlight for me (only behind Hot n Cold in her discography) and there is something so raw, stunning and heartbreaking about this track heart.gif This was a pretty big hit for a song that was a single so late in the run, spending 14 weeks in the top 40 and 4 of those in the top 20 (and 9wks between 18 to 23). A smash *.*

back to most of y'all doing well now with one of the easiest covers with 15 getting full points and 18 scoring some points! the artwork is beautiful <3

Points:
Chrissmith276, Mango, Scene, Jade, Dan, LewisGT, SamJudd, Vibe, Bjork, West, MrAndrewMan, PeteFromLeeds, N4yr, Rush, Cremey, :') - 2pts

Jordan Lee - 1pt (got artist but went for Wide Awake)
Mack - 1pt (got artist, no song guess)
Riser - 1pt (got artist but went for Flopleys in Hawaii)

17. Cobra Starship & Leighton Meester - Good Girls Go Bad

At #17 we have one of the best of the 2009 bangers that were hits with the team up of Cobra Starship and gossip girl's lead Leighton Meester. Good Girls Go Bad is such a BOP and honestly I still listen to it regularly, the chanting bridge is a slay and the chorus is a bop and I stan Leighton's voice on this *.* This peaked at 17 in the UK and spent three weeks top 40!

only four of you pick up points for this bop sad.gif the artwork is messy but I stan *.* the wrong guesses are a lot of female artists and legend Khia *.*

Points:
Jordan Lee, SamJudd, Riser, Rush - 2pts

Wrong Guesses:
Chrissmith276 - Iggy Azalea
Mango - Little Mix
Jade - Charli XCX

16. Freya Ridings - Castles

At #16 we have Freya Ridings best song Castles <3 This was an instant fave when it was released and it grew even more on me over the rest of the year to become one of my fave tracks of 2019, there's just something so uplifting and joyous about this and the chorus is fab, such a great song <3 This did pretty well in the UK, giving Freya a 2nd hit as this spent 11 weeks top 40, with 7 of them in the top 20!

I was definitely expecting more than 5 people to get this with this being a recent hit! I think this is also the most wrong guesses we've had yet with many attempts instead of just blank spaces for this one, inc. double Snow Patrol, double Rihanna the biggest worldwide hit of 2019 and the queen of pop.

Points:
Jordan Lee, Dan, Coi, Dan17f1, Rush - 2pts

Wrong Guesses:
Chrissmith276 - Alicia Keys
Mango - Madonna - Celebration
Scene - Lil Nas X - Old Town Road
Jade - Christina Perri

Posted by: Dan17F1 3rd May 2020, 07:53 PM

Ooh thanks for the 10 points! I wasn’t expecting to get any points for the theme tbh but thanks! smile.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee 3rd May 2020, 07:56 PM

I got Love Game by remembering that cover being a still from the video.

I think both Love Game and Poker Face had two different single covers though for different territories.

Posted by: chrissmith276 3rd May 2020, 08:36 PM

Damn I even looked Freya Ridings up as was looking up female artists lol but didn't see/get that!

Could tell it was Britney but didn't have a clue on which song when I searched!

Posted by: M4NGO 3rd May 2020, 08:44 PM

Always loved that Cobra Starship song wub.gif just don't think I've ever seen the single cover for it, oops.

Great theme btw, really clever!

Posted by: Rush 4th May 2020, 03:43 AM

(timezone-sponsored catchup time)

Oh hey I didn't think you'd give away the theme immediately from the first reveal tongue.gif

Surprised I was the only one to get 'Wildest Dreams'! It wasn't obvious to me though - I kept staring at it trying to think of something, and 'Wildest Dreams' eventually popped into mind (probably subconsciously recognising the colour scheme) but I didn't think it was actually it, but I googled just in case and... it was.

I easily knew 'Heavy' was Anne-Marie, but was thinking it was '2002' and had to look through her covers on Spotify to find the right one.

I got 'Love Is A Losing Game' right at the last minute before I submitted - I just happened to think of Amy Winehouse (from the black hair and existence of a tattoo I guess), checked and she had a #33 hit, which made it easy to work out.

QUOTE
and the only person to get this wrong is the only one that's got every single one correct so far kink.gif
Ohhhhhhhhhh 'React' 🤦 I knew it was familiar but I just could not work it out! I tried every big UK girl group I could think of and even did think of the Pussycat Dolls, but thought it didn't look like any of their old covers from memory and... forgot about the new one :')

I feel like I should've known 'Ritual' but wasn't even close. It really does look like it could be an 'I Am... Sasha Fierce' Beyoncé video!

I thought 'R U Mine?' would be wrong until working out the theme confirmed it, because Arctic Monkeys seem so out of place here tongue.gif

'Gold Dust' was driving me mad haha, I knew it was something I knew laugh.gif I was thinking it was an indie artist (someone adjacent to like MGMT or The Naked And Famous) which wasn't right though.

Oh at only 2 people getting the theme ohmy.gif I just thought it might relate to chart positions in some way, so I looked up the peaks of the first few and saw 16, 17... and it was clear something was unraveling. I had most of the songs at that point, which helped. I got the #12 hit after that by looking up the thread of 2010s 11-20 peakers (definitely expecting that to be one of the least guessed ones), but I already had the rest of the top 20 so I wasn't able to capitalise on that strategy further tongue.gif

I did think of 'Hold It Against Me' first for Britney!

Wow at only 2 for 'LoveGame'! The other cover is the definitive one in my mind but I very much know (and own physically) both covers.

I would recognise that toilet paper and yellow shoe anywhere *.* I forgot it was such a short-lived UK hit until I looked up the peaks! (Also good timing with the recent Gossip Girl twitter meme tongue.gif)
QUOTE(Jordan Lee @ May 4 2020, 05:56 AM) *
I think both Love Game and Poker Face had two different single covers though for different territories.
'Poker Face' had a 3rd one too in France! And 'Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)' also had 2:

Looking forward to the rest!

Posted by: Fisher 🐠 4th May 2020, 04:04 AM

I wish I had figured out the theme only because I definitely would NOT have guessed 'Harleys In Hawaii' for the Katy one :') I actually thought that was correct for some reason.

On the other hand I've got a couple right that I thought were complete guesses, turns out my memory is quite good on this!

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 4th May 2020, 10:26 AM

Not Nicola Sturgeon being closer to the correct answer than some of my actual guesses drama.gif

Not too annoyed at the ones I haven't got so far, not really familiar with any of those covers. But I should have got that theme when I realised there were 40 covers as opposed to the usual 20/25!

let's do 15-11 now!

Posted by: UltraReputation 4th May 2020, 11:17 AM

15. Duffy - Rain On Your Parade

At #15 we have the queen of 2008 (and my personal queen) Duffy with the bop of life Rain On Your Parade <3 This really should've been the bond theme for that year, it sounds perfectly fit to be like one and would honestly be my fave bond theme ever. Still listen to this regularly, it's acc aged rly well <3 Anyway this was another hit for Duffy in 2008, peaking at 15 and spending 7 weeks top 40!

again were back to a low scoring answer as only 5 of you managed to pick up points! there were many wrong guesses for Madonna and also a guess for Alicia Keys, who ofc ended up recording the official Bond theme released that year!

Points:
Jade, Mack, SamJudd, Rush - 2pts

Chrissmith276 - 1pt (Duffy - Mercy)

14. Charlie Puth ft. Selena Gomez - We Don't Talk Anymore

At #14 we have a team-up between Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez for the bop we don't talk anymore. This was an immediate fave when I first heard Charlie's album so I was glad it was pushed ass a single. It did pretty well, peaking at 14 for 2 weeks and spent 14 weeks top 20! This also has insane and incredible streams, 2.4billion on YouTube (despite Selena not even appearing in the video) and I think over a million on Spotify!

more people managed to pick up points here for probs one of the hardest ones imo in the game! my fave wrong answer comes from another mid 2010's collab between two popular young artists

13. Ava Max - So Am I

At #13 we have the queen of bops and the queen of recycling Ava Max, with her sophomore single So Am I. Damn this is so generic but it does go off, I do stan *.* This was a solid hit in the UK, peaking at 13 and spending 12 weeks top 40 but as much as I love this, salt should've been the second single.

See I can be kind in this quiz sometimes x and for the second time we come SO close to a full house, will we get one eventually?? this was probs the 2nd easiest one in the game and it only trips up Mack who goes for Ava Max copycat Lady Gaga x

12. Stooshe - Slip

At #12 we have the best and most iconic girlband of the 2010's from Stooshe <3 <3 Slip is one of my faves of the decade, just effortless pure-pop FUN and the chorus is sfg, so many dance choreographies to this track *.* This deserved to be a gigantic hit but it probs did as well as it could to peak at #12 after that certain cover derailed their career. This spent 3 weeks top 40, deserved so much more sad.gif Now y'all can go check out the PANTS VERSION on Spotify (iconic)

This is the section of low scores of just 5 of you picked up points! Most of y'all got this was a girlband but didn't recognise Karis so we had answers from LM to MO to GA. Also guessed are Drummer Boy which is an underrated BANGER that I always forgets exists and the devil's incarnate pops up again

11. Jordin Sparks - Battlefield

At #11 and just missing the top 10 for like the 74th time (</3) is Jordan Sparks anthemic ballad Battlefield. This is one of my fave songs of all time <3 Lyrically fab, vocally slayed and the chorus just explodes that you want to scream it at the top of your lungs (and it's aged rly well) and the bridge and the outro *.* <3 <3. Frustratingly at the time, this did so well but couldn't crack the top 10, peaking at #11 three times, spending 8 weeks top 20 and 13 weeks top 40. (little did I know that I'd have to bloody relive an even more infuriating #11 peaking song that spends forever in the top 20 five years later with my 2nd fave song of all time). Legit all my faves peak at #11 :/

This is the 2nd highest scorer of this section after Ava, with just over a third of you picking up points! This is one a lot of y'all said you recognised and couldn't place so it'll be interesting if you guys are kicking yourselves now or just didn't know!

Chuffed to have got some of the less guessed ones in Duffy, Charlie Puth, Stooshe and Jordin Sparks! I knew Stooshe had to be in here somewhere laugh.gif also I was convinced that the Jordin one was Alesha Dixon for ages lmao and then it suddenly clicked *.*

I also got the same impression as Mango for #11, sounds very familiar but it's not this Battlefield, maybe some girl band like Bananarama or Sugababes have a similar one

don't think I recall any cover by Stooshe biggrin.gif I see they still have some fans in here biggrin.gif would have never guessed

The Jordin Sparks one was doing my head in! I was actually thinking American Idol because the red background to the cover was very Idol-esque but then the pink belt looks so dated I thought it could've been Cheeky Girls or an old Girls Aloud cover. tearsmile.gif

10. Europa feat. Madison Beer - All Day & Night

Let's kick off the top 10 with a banger from Europa and Madison Beer as their team-up on All Day & Night peaked at 10 last year! This is a pretty good song but I don't really listen to it too regularly. It peaked at 10 for two weeks, spent 8 weeks between 10-14 and 11 weeks top 40 (with a further three weeks at 41!)

Unfortunately it didn't really do much in the charts, peaking at 9 and spending only three weeks in the top 75 sad.gif

At #7 we head to 2013 for this piece of pure-pop perfection from Bridgit Mendler. This defined my spring & summer in 2013 and is just a fun and great pop track! Ready Or Not did pretty well in the UK with 4 weeks top 10 and 10 weeks top 40! <3 It's a shame she was a one hit wonder cos Hurricane deserved to smash and Blonde is also a slept on bop.

6. Paloma Faith - Only Love Can Hurt Like This

And at #6 we have a career best from Paloma Faith with the stunningly gorgeous Only Love Can Hurt Like This. I was such a massive Paloma stan back in 2014 (I still like her but most of her recent material hasn't done much for me) and this was my fave from APC so watching this take off to become her biggest hit was fab <3 The song is absolutely gorgeous. This spent 5 weeks top 10 and managed a fantastic 20 weeks top 40! this has also held up rly well, it still feels well remembered today and is by FAR her most streamed solo song on Spotify

Again quite a lot of y'all manage to pick up points on this whilst a few of you got it was Paloma but didn't know the song/guessed the wrong one. MrAndrewMan's tactic of guessing random artists for ones he didn't know was unlucky here as if he answered Paloma for two more answers he didn't know, he would've got a point here!

5. Taylor Swift - You Need To Calm Down

At #5 we have Taylor's most recent top 10 hit in the UK with Lover's 2nd album You Need To Calm Down. It spent 2 weeks top 10 and 11 weeks top 40! The song is ofc fab but not a major Taylor fave of mine. The main reason I chose this is cos I STAN this artwork SO MUCH <3 <3 I remember when the artwork was revealed I saw so many negative reactions before I saw the artwork myself so I was prepared for the worst (cos we'd already had enough me!sses this era) but I actually think it might be my fave Taylor artwork ever?!?! I love it so much.

And damn we're SO CLOSE to a full house again here, are we gonna get one from the top 4?? was def expecting this to be one of the most successful point getters for u guys with me choosing the iconic butterfly/snake back 'tattoo'!

I think we will get a full house for the #2!

Posted by: Bjork 4th May 2020, 04:36 PM

yes #2 was the easiest

4. Delta Goodrem - Lost Without You

At #4 we head all the way back to 2003 for Australian star Delta Goodrem's stunning pop ballad Lost Without You. I've been playing this so much the last few weeks, this is such a great lyrically and vocally song and there's something so beautiful and timeless about this <3 a classic <3 this spent 3 weeks top 10 and 9 weeks top 40 in the UK, whilst finish in the EOY top 10 in Australia where it smashed gigantically obvs *.*

And just 6 of you manage to score some points on this one, with nearly as many guesses for Rachel & the group she was in!

Points:
Chrissmith276, Mango, SamJudd, Coi, Rush - 2pts

Jordan Lee - 1pt (Delta Goodrem - Born To Try)

Wrong Guesses:
Scene - S Club 7 - Say Goodbye
Jade - Natasha Bedingfield
Mack - Rachel Stevens - I Said Never Again (But Here We Are)
Bjork - Rachel Stevens
MrAndrewMan - Madonna
PeteFromLeeds - Avril Lavigne

3. Taylor Swift feat. Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco - Me!

At #3 we have Taylor again with the lead single from lover, Me! My fave iconic messy bop, imma not talk too much about this cos I basically wrote an essay on it in the Taylor artist forum last week so go check that out if u want rly fascinating in-depth thoughts on this song xxx laugh.gif Anyway this spent 3 weeks top 10 and 9 weeks top 40, quite solid but yeah it did slightly underperform. And yep I did include 3 Taylor songs in this kink.gif

Though I do have to apologise for the awful outstretched part of the exclamation mark I included in the game, I was meant to change it to some other part of the cover but I forgot and remembered after I uploaded kink.gif This slots halfway between the other two Taylor songs in how many of u got this one correct.

Mango - Demi Lovato

2. Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now

At #2 we have the instant classic Don't Start Now from Dua Lipa. Y'all know about its chart records, how its basically spent forever in the top 10 (with three weeks at #2) etc so I won't go on x but what a smash, it deserved 1 ahh! This was instantly my fave Dua song (for two and a half months and then Physical decimated it) and this is my fave song from 2019 (though Christmas Tree Farm will probs overtake after a few more Xmas' of spamming that song), just a perfectly euphoric disco BOP <3

And yeah I included this one in case I made the rest of the quiz too hard so as I love this song, I decided to put it in here and make it really easy for y'all to get. Which tf none of u let me down heart.gif and here is the first and only full house of the game!

3 x Taylor lol

It looked like a lipstick mark on a glass to me so would never have got from what I was looking for!

Posted by: Bjork 4th May 2020, 04:51 PM

not so familiar with Delta, she definitely looks a bit like Rachael Stevens in there biggrin.gif
didn't get #3 either

Posted by: Bjork 4th May 2020, 04:53 PM

But actually, now I realise who the person organizing this game is, all the time there was a different name
If I had realised, maybe I would have checked Taylor's discography biggrin.gif

1. Ellie Goulding - River

(and now y'all can appreciate the full board of single covers below *.*)

And at #1 we have the forever ICONIC River hitting the 1 spot again. This looked to finally be the year Mariah would finally grab the #1 with the best xmas track ever but Alexa Goulding said NO and swooped in at the last min to snatch it away *.* as much as I wanted Mariah to be #1 this is one of my fave charts ever and the reaction on here was iconic, I stan the absolute randomness of this being the last #1 of the decade. It spent two weeks top 10 and 5 top 40 and it'll be interesting to see how Alexa promotes this over the next few years x The song itself, it's nice but not one of her best (from her 2019 material, Flux & Do You Remember are by far the best and sixteen issa fab bop)

I wasn't expecting as many people to get this as y'all did but then it being a number one and quite recognisably Ellie probs did help! My absolute fave tho is the people that got this right and then guessed the theme of the game to be that there was no number 1 singles kink.gif

Yes Delta does look like Rachel Stevens in that cover that's why I put Say Goodbye but I checked all of SC7's and Rachel's solo covers and none fit. Doppelganger. DeadBanana.gif

Well done Rush and Sam. clap.gif I didn't expect third place in this. ohmy.gif I would have been 18th if it wasn't for getting the theme. laugh.gif

And thanks for hosting this!

Posted by: Bjork 4th May 2020, 05:37 PM

wow Rush, thats incredible

thanks for organizing too

Posted by: Jordan Lee 4th May 2020, 05:44 PM

7th is pretty good!

I’m really kicking myself at some of these! Even more kicking self I said the theme was no #1s but got River right especially as that thread the week it went to #1 ended up becoming the most memorable chart thread I’ve seen on this site laugh.gif laugh.gif

Also happy you got points for both artist and song as I messed up on some of those like Katy, Delta and Paloma where I put different songs.

Thank you for hosting! Loved the theme and the countdown.

Posted by: jimwatts 4th May 2020, 05:50 PM

Congrats Rush! Can't believe I didn't finish last (sorry Mack), I only guessed 6! I definitely should have known a few more but got thrown off by what I thought the theme was, amongst other excuses, but anyway love the theme. Thanks Sam for putting all this together!

Posted by: M4NGO 4th May 2020, 05:57 PM

Oops I really could have done better in that laugh.gif still it's the taking part that counts right? I enjoyed it anyhow, thanks for organising!

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 4th May 2020, 06:45 PM

Congrats Rush and thanks for a great round Sam!

Posted by: SamJudd 4th May 2020, 06:57 PM

yahoo.gif , Never expected to be runner-up, was expecting top 15 if lucky, but #2 WOW, well done Rush & thanks for this

Posted by: dandy* 4th May 2020, 07:04 PM

What a great theme, I didn't get chance to enter but did try and think of the theme - unsuccessfully!

Posted by: Rush 4th May 2020, 07:57 PM

Ok I was pretty confident I'd win by the time I saw that I was one of only 2 people to get the theme, but my lead in points oh my god cheeseblock.png #2 being literally closer to #17 than #1!!!

I've won an NMTBJ (in the Lounge) before but I don't think I've ever won a cover puzzle! I think it being single covers worked in my favour (and possibly no one else's, by the looks of it).

Thank you for this, great concept!

Posted by: Riser 5th May 2020, 01:23 AM

The single covers worked in my favor too actually, having seen a lot of them from doing the Multicharts. Never would've got anywhere near 94 points though, way to go Rush ohmy.gif

Another fun quiz, thank you for hosting!
