My guess is London will be in Tier 2. Cases and deaths have been falling. A 13 day old baby with no underlying health conditions has become the UK's youngest victim so far. London will be Tier 2, I expect Greater Manchester and Liverpool to be Tier 2 also. It's these little pockets that Hartlepool, Hull, Thanet etc. which probs need to be in Tier 3 that will take everyone around them with them you would expect if they are going off larger geographical areas. Places like West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Humberside, West Midlands, Lancashire are all going to be Tier 3. |

Uh, I haven't been following TOO much the details of the tiers since I'm not living there but if ONLY Cornwall and a couple of islands are Tier 1, isn't that just like continuing the national lockdown but not calling it a national lockdown?
Might even put those few tier 1 areas in danger of going up with such a spotlight on them. |

Yep that's exactly it, it's the same situation but with a new (or rather old) lick of paint...

Tbh jokes aside that is funny, I am living in a Tier 2 area which needed the measures after the student splurge. The infection rate is now under control and continually falling, yet we stay in Tier 2 and now have harsher measures than the ones that were actually working before. I get the need to keep the virus under control but it all seems a bit silly really as you're gonna lose compliance where I live.

Aren’t all the tiers a relaxation compared to the lockdown tho?
Our lockdown has been extended to Dec 20th with a basic agreement amongst both the federal government and the heads of the Länder that it’ll probably continue well into Jan. Berlin this afternoon said that they would not be following the rest of the country in relaxing at Christmas. Damn right, the situation here is only just plateauing here more than Three weeks into lockdown. It’s gonna be mid jan before we’re back where we were at the start of September- if I’m being optimistic |

No only tiers 1 & 2 are a relaxation. 57% of the country will be in tier 3 which is scarcely any different to full lockdown.

People should be angry. The governmenr bareface lied to us all like we're kids once again. The treatment is borderline sadistic now.
The only people still shilling for lockdowns at all costs are people negligibly affected by them in the first place. Quelle surprise. Marie Antoinetting. |

The previous Tier 2 measures were having an effect and we quickly bringing the infection rate under control. The national lockdown had a little effect on us but all you have done is close hospitality. I can't see our cases going any lower than what is currently is 20-30 a day, so it just means we're going to be stuck in Tier 2 for ages when the science justifies that previous measures were working which allowed wet pubs to open. I'm not against other measures as the whole country clearly needs them but it some of the rationale just seems a bit mad. |

That's if you're believing the numbers. I'm starting to become seriously sceptical of them now. How can there be 600+ deaths every day this week? We're nearly a month through a full lockdown and it's not as if people most vulnerable weren't being super cautious before that anyway. I definitely think the numbers are being inflated just to justify the measures. People are challenging the government decisions but are afraid to challenge the numbers as they take them as pure facts.

Most of the people dying at the moment will have been infected before the lockdown was imposed. Scepticism about government statements is perfectly healthy - particularly with a government as dishonest as our current one. However, it is stretching plausibility to the limit and beyond to suggest that most of the world's governments have signed up to some sort of conspiracy. |

Because, I suspect, they are 'stealing' flu deaths.
I will be very interested to see the flu death figures this year. Last winter something like 30k people - mostly elderly - died of the flu. If this year it's more like 5k then we know where the 'sudden' huge increase of covids came from. |

Continued social distancing, other lockdown measures and more people being vaccinated should all contribute to fewer deaths from flu this winter. In any case, numbers vary from year to year as the virus mutates. |

With the deaths thing, if you look at the data when they say "643 people have died today" well it's not really, as there is a reporting lag. So I get that. You also wouldn't expect flu to be as prevalent this year as there is less social interaction so less chance to spread & more people vaccinated. I do think from the last set of data where people were catching the virus, it has gone through in to the care homes again, which we know is a recipe for disaster with hospitalisations.
The problem is the Government have changed their approach to be PROACTIVE rather than REACTIVE which is why its pissed so many people off. That as well with Tier 2 being pretty much Tier 3 before. They'd have been better creating a Tier 4, but probs too much extra admin & cost. |

A very angry guy on Sky News earlier where they'll be in Tier 3 next week. He has a card, gift wrap, novelties shop etc and says he can't open and he should be classed as essential at Christmas. Supermarkets can sell cards as he says which is so unfair. Even corner shops near him are cashing in and selling them this year too as he can't open. His MP's agreed and is getting on to No.10 to see if card and gift shops could be classed as essential in December.

Seems a bit of a non story as unless he's selling booze he should be able to open next week? Unless I've missed something. |
