Chart Analysis

At long last we have a brand new number one. What could possibly have dethroned Avicii with 'Lonely Together', now down to #2? None other than this month's BJSC entry, 'Sky Is Falling' by Darren Styles & Stonebank feat. EMEL, jumping 6-1 in its third week in the chart. It is the first BJSC entry to make #1 since 'Saving Light' last year topped the chart for five weeks for Gareth Emery et al last February-March, which itself kicked off another BJSC entry, 'Unbreakable' by Aly & Fila et al which was #1 for four weeks. Needless to say it is the first number one hit for all artists involved.

CLiQ continue their climb up the chart, creeping in at #3 this week with 'Wavey'. Rita Ora falls to #5 with 'Anywhere' In-between them is this week's highest new entry, and we have quite a few of these this week. Of course it is the long-awaited return of Drake who dropped two songs unexpectedly last Saturday. 'God's Plan' is on course to enter straight in at #1 in the UK, and here it is a new entry at #4. It is his 11th top 10 hit and highest charting hit since his feature on Rihanna's 'Work', a #2 hit in 2016. Drake has a very long chart history here with 24 previous top 40 hits, a number which now increases to 26 as he also enters at #38 with 'Diplomatic Immunity'. His sole number one however remains his feature on 'What's My Name', also by Rihanna, back in 2010.

Another new entry in the top 10 comes from Rudimental, though it is fair to say they are not the main selling point of the song. As you probably know, 'These Days' features the Queen of Music herself, Jess Glynne, alongside Macklemore and Dan Caplan. The song enters at #8, instantly becoming Rudimental's third top 10 hit (and 7th top 40 hit). They last appeared in the top 10 with 'Waiting All Night', a #6 hit back in 2013. Their highest peaking song remains their debut, 'Feel the Love', #3 in 2012. As for Jess, it is her 11th top 40 hit, 7 of which are top 10s. She was last seen in the top 10 with 'Take Me Home', a #5 hit in 2015. Her highest peaking single remains 'Rather Be' with Clean Bandit, #1 back in 2014. Of course Macklemore also has a chart history, though a smaller one as this becomes his 5th top 40 hit (3rd top 10). He hasn't appeared in the chart since 'Downtown' in 2015 (#21), and his highest peaking song is 'Thrift Shop' which reached #1 in 2012. It also becomes his first hit to not feature Ryan Lewis. As for Dan Caplan, he has no prior chart history.

In the top 20 two Above & Beyond songs climb in anticipation of their album released this Friday. 'My Own Hymn' bounces 30-16, almost matching its original peak of #14. Newer single 'Northern Soul' jumps 32-17 to reach a new peak. It becomes their 6th top 20 hit of 8 top 40 hits. Also re-entering the top 20 is 'Friend Of Mine' by Avicii, catapulting 45-18 as it starts to receive a single push (in my chart only that is) as we await more Avicii material in 2018. It joins 'Lonely', down to #2, and 'Without You', up to #13.

Lower down the top 40 off the back of this week's #1 'Sky Is Falling', Stonebank gets a second top 40 hit with previous single 'Ripped To Pieces', which also features EMEL. It jumps 50 places to this week's #29. As mentioned earlier, Drake has a new entry at #38 with 'Diplomatic Immunity'. Re-entering the top 40 are Jain with 'Makeba' at #34 and BUNT. with 'On My Way' at #35.

Outside the top 40 we have new entries from Mohamed Ragab (#52), Above & Beyond (#64 and #69), Lika Morgan (#73), Dua Lipa (#79), Famous Dex (#80), KSHMR (#96) and The Chainsmokers (#98).

I like the big gains from Avicii and Sigrid!
The Drake debuts might debut next week in my chart and I also really like the debuts of Rudimental and Dua Lipa!

It's a mix of hardstyle and trance, very great song I think. My entry to the Buzzjack Song Contest this month.
Really into Drake at the moment, so new material was going to excite me. Rudimental are quite hit and miss at the moment but These Days is brilliant. Also Dua's single is growing on me a bit now so could be a future top 40 here.

Nice to see Sick Boy enter also - heard it for the first time on the Chart Show, refreshingly different for them

so good to see you come around to Drake but how could you despise 'These Days'
quite on the fence with 'Sick Boy', I don't know, it doesn't really do it for me, it's dropped out of my top 100 this week.
'Friend Of Mine' got its boost from Avicii still not releasing anything new so I'm pretending it's the next official single.
