BuzzJack Music Forum _ Dance _ Major Lazer - Music Is The Weapon

Posted by: Cremey 30th May 2016, 09:34 PM

First single 'Cold Water' features MØ and Justin Bieber and is premiering in the next couple of weeks. Can't waittt.
Would never have imagined just how big they'd blow up with the last album, I'm sure they're bound to just get even bigger from here too. 🙌🏼

Posted by: Davidson 30th May 2016, 09:42 PM

Yeah, I thought they were making 'Boom' the next single (which I think could have smashed hard btw) but I'm kind of glad we are getting brand new material.

With the JB feature, it is bound to be big and one of the 2016 Summer anthems.

Posted by: lewistgreen 30th May 2016, 11:03 PM

I wonder if this is 'Music is the Mission' or whether they've abandoned that title for something better more fitting.

Posted by: John-James 30th June 2016, 03:23 PM

Cold Water out next month (which could be tomorrow but I doubt it)

I reckon it's tomorrow. This sounds like it has potential.

Posted by: John-James 2nd July 2016, 02:49 PM

It's out July 15th

Posted by: danG 2nd July 2016, 08:16 PM

apparently Ed Sheeran and Benny Blanco (produced hits for Rihanna, Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber etc.) are both involved in 'Cold Water' as well!!!

it's gonna be biggg

Posted by: Stu1985 14th July 2016, 07:01 PM

Now out 22/7

Posted by: meme 18th July 2016, 03:32 PM

https://dnj.to/

Leaked on here in full! The quality isn't too good but I have to say on first listen this is very different to what I expected.

I really like it though, it does sound absolutely HUGE.

Can see this being my favourite song very soon.

Posted by: Davidson 18th July 2016, 03:39 PM

Meh

Very average. Sounds very much like 'Waves' by Mr Probz and not much like Major Lazer's other stuff.

Don't know if I can be bothered with this being #1 for the next 4 months.

Posted by: JosephStyles 18th July 2016, 04:10 PM

I really like that! Definitely sounds like a huge smash to me. Justin sounding great as always wub.gif

Posted by: liamk97 18th July 2016, 04:16 PM

I can pick up on the 'Waves' comparisons too. I think it will sound pretty good on the radio in the hot weather but it's not one I'll be listening through choice all that often, unless it ends up growing on me, which I could see happening tbh.

Posted by: danG 18th July 2016, 04:20 PM

this is sounding brilliant! (minus the sound quality of that rip)

Posted by: Joe. 18th July 2016, 04:27 PM

I was really excited about this given all three names involved but I can't help feel quite disappointed.

Posted by: ML Hammer95 18th July 2016, 05:27 PM

Heard the full song and it does sound huge... probably will be this year's 'How Deep Is Your Love'. Can't help but feel that Major Later are heading down the Sigma route and every song sounding the same.

Posted by: Rooney 18th July 2016, 05:32 PM

I have been a fan of Diplo for about 8 years.. this is definitely the most commercial thing I have ever heard him release!

Can see the Waves references.. but I think it does enough to stand on itself. I really like it, very easy listening and yes the streaming and bars are going to eat this up alive!

Posted by: Cremey 18th July 2016, 05:40 PM

I thought of Waves immediately when I first heard it too. Really liking it, but it really doesn't seem like a Major Lazer song at all haha.
I suppose the chorus is quite Diplo, but the rest just feels a bit tame. Can see myself loving it, but it seems so much more like a Justin single produced by Diplo rather than the first single from the new Major Lazer album...

Be Right There was very commercial for Diplo as well.

Can't see this missing #1, probably still be in the charts next January. laugh.gif

Posted by: Ðøßßø 18th July 2016, 05:42 PM

Oh YES this is sounding wonderful! It is very Waves but with a far more suited vocalist to the style IMO.

Posted by: Robot 20th July 2016, 03:22 PM

The album is supposedly called "Music Is The Weapon" and it includes features from The Weeknd, Gwen Stefani, Camila Cabello, Sia and Travis Scott.

Posted by: Cody Collins 20th July 2016, 03:33 PM

"Cold Water" actually wouldn't sound too out of place in Purpose...

Posted by: HarryEzra 20th July 2016, 03:36 PM

Ohh if that is true good album name even, feels like a continuation to their last album

Posted by: Mart!n 20th July 2016, 04:52 PM

Finally I found a version, I even found a you tube video of running cold water noise from a tap for 3 Minutes and 45 seconds laugh.gif anyhow I feel a bit underwhelmed over it, not really feeling it, I really expected something better from Major Lazer, mind you it was a poor version, it might sound better when a decent cut is out.

Posted by: Iz~ 20th July 2016, 04:56 PM

Cold Water sounds pretty good from the LQ I found and I wasn't expecting anything from it purely because Bieber's vocals normally ruin a track for me beyond all repair, but they haven't done so here. Good melody and Diplo's done some good production there, even if it is a bit watered-down to truly be a great track.

Posted by: lewistgreen 22nd July 2016, 07:46 AM

Posted by: Atonement 22nd July 2016, 08:04 AM

This is not very impressive. And the guitar reminds me too much or Waves by Mr. Probz.

Posted by: meme 22nd July 2016, 08:24 AM

Literally got this on repeat right now music.gif SO GOOD.

Posted by: Liаm 22nd July 2016, 08:50 AM

Eh it's ok. I agree with the Waves comparison and I HATE that song, one of my least favourite songs ever laugh.gif This is nowhere near as bad but it's very uninspired, the chorus is better but it's just Major Lazer on autopilot.

Posted by: Joe. 22nd July 2016, 09:01 AM

I've listened in HQ now and I really hope it grows. It reminds me of when I first heard This is What We Came For and was so excited by the names but utterly so disappointed and it never grew. I was hoping for something along the lines of Lean On/Sorry/Where R You

Posted by: Cucumberella 22nd July 2016, 10:41 AM

oh christ how boring is this!

Posted by: danG 22nd July 2016, 10:49 AM

I'm not getting this bleh reaction, I think it's really good. Though I am a sucker for a commercial dance bop.

#1 for 10 weeks please x

Posted by: JosephStyles 22nd July 2016, 11:14 AM

Yeah I'm finding this quite irresistible at the moment, Justin's vocals sound excellent and the production is good too. Not as good as Light It Up for me though, think that will be quite hard to top!

Posted by: RobBob 22nd July 2016, 12:17 PM

If it's a question of expecting better then I agree, but I do really like it for what it is and it has a definite replayability (is that even a word?) factor.

EDIT: 14 hours later and I'm OBSESSED <33333

Posted by: mr_pmt 23rd July 2016, 05:37 PM

My thoughts when I first heard it were that considering they each came up with 'Sorry' and 'Lean On' it could be better (although I'm fairly sure DJ Snake was the main component in making 'Lean On' what it was), but I'm enjoying it on subsequent listens! It's perfectly summery.

Posted by: HausofKubrick 24th July 2016, 01:31 PM

This is so f***ing beautiful. Sounds effortless. Obsessed wub.gif

Posted by: burbe 24th July 2016, 05:04 PM

It's not as 'big' sounding as I thought it would be, but it sounds quite decent and at least it's finally giving us a new #1 by the look of things!

Posted by: djgrafdemon 8th September 2016, 03:58 PM

Remixes by Afrojack, Boombox Cartel, Lost Frequencies, King Henry & Jr. Blender, Delirious & Alex K, Ocular are out tomorrow on Third Pardee label.
Mostly wild genres stated: electro house, moombahton, trap.

Posted by: Cremey 14th September 2016, 08:45 PM

Diappointed there's no new diplo dance to be honest :'(

Posted by: Ðøßßø 16th September 2016, 08:03 PM

This seems to be the future of music videos then for busy acts. Cba to put out a real video so a dance video becomes the "de facto" official one (see JB with Sorry) & no doubt the DJ Snake one too.

Posted by: Cremey 29th September 2016, 09:19 PM

Loving 'Believer' with Showtek. What a banger.

Posted by: mdh 30th September 2016, 07:12 AM

This is sounding so fresh! There's been a distinct lack of dancehall-style Clubland-style tracks this year. Loving it!

Posted by: JosephStyles 30th September 2016, 12:34 PM

I actually rather like this laugh.gif Showtek always bring the jams. Not as good as the last two Major Lazer singles imo but fun nonetheless.

Posted by: Ðøßßø 30th September 2016, 08:47 PM

Very fun! Good to see them still putting songs like this & Boom out among their commercially-aimed efforts.

Is this out in January then?

I'm SO here for the Tove Lo collaboration!

Posted by: christmdhas 20th December 2016, 12:08 AM

Oh my lord heart.gif So down for the Sia, The Weeknd, and Tove Lo collaborations - it looks as though we'll be getting somewhat of an overload of Major Lazer tracks in the top 40 when the album comes out heehee.gif Really wanting the Sia track to be a dancehall banger, she'd really suit it (I mean we all already know she's open to those influences i.e. Cheap Thrills with Sean Paul). 2017 looks like it'll be a fab year at this rate in terms of music! heart.gif

Posted by: Sonar 4th January 2017, 11:07 AM

'Believer' got official video

Posted by: lewistgreen 7th January 2017, 11:57 AM

Maybe 'Ring Her Up' has been scrapped in favour of pushing Believer? All Around The World appear to have signed the track and uploaded it to their YouTube yesterday.

Posted by: jase. 7th January 2017, 04:26 PM

Surely the label wouldn't expect a Showtek collab to do anything on the scale of a collab with Nicki? laugh.gif

Posted by: ML Hammer95 7th January 2017, 05:16 PM

Apparently it'll be dropping this month.

Posted by: lewistgreen 25th January 2019, 11:34 PM

They’ve finally gone back to teasing this album again. Apparently it’s going to be their last though sad.gif

Posted by: lewistgreen 15th May 2020, 08:36 PM

Now called Lazerism and apparently out next month! Sia and Nicki Minaj will feature on tracks

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 16th May 2020, 02:58 PM

Do we know if they're splitting up after this, or just not releasing albums?

Posted by: awardinary 26th May 2020, 09:36 PM

This is supposedly Major Lazer’s final single with Diplo as part of the project.

It will be the first collaboration with Nicki Minaj since Run Up in 2017. Sample below!

Titled 'Music is the Weapon', out on October 23rd!

Posted by: Bré 30th September 2020, 04:55 PM

I thought they already had an album with that title. Looked it up and it's just that they already announced that title like 5 years ago. laugh.gif

Posted by: Klumzee 30th September 2020, 05:02 PM

Oh wow another album wasn't on my radar! I wonder which of their recent singles will appear on this then, Lay Your Head On Me, Que Calor, Can't Take It From Me, Blow That Smoke and Tied Up could all feature and I'm sure there's plenty I'm missing too. Hopefully a new single is around the corner with a mainstream push to promote this!

Posted by: lewistgreen 30th September 2020, 05:19 PM

Lol that was the original album title when it was announced yonks ago

Really crappy album in my opinion, like someone had slammed a load of 2016-17 hits in a blender and removed all the memorable hooks. Loved them up to and including Lean On but don't know what's happened to the quality control. They put out any old rubbish now. Maybe Diplo is too prolific.
