First single produced by DJ White Shadow (again) then? He produced; Born This Way, Government Hooker, Americano, Bloody Mary, Bad Kids, Black Jesus † Amen Fashion, Highway Unicorn (Road to Love) and Electric Chapel on the previous album, none of which (bar Born This Way, Government Hooker, Bloody Mary) are even close to her best.
Any thoughts on the possible DJWS production? Would anyone prefer a Fernando Garibay (Dance In The Dark, Alejandro, Heavy Metal Lover, Marry The Night), or a RedOne banger?
I hope she uses a variety of different producers on the next album instead of re-using the same three. Having said that there better be a couple of RedOne (Scheiße, Bad Romance) anthems on there, and I'd quite like another Darkchild track.

Fernando seems to be the most consistant from looking at those tracks. DJ White Shadow has produced some amazing tracks (looking at you Born This Way, Bad Kids & Bloody Mary) but there are some real stinkers there too.
Really excited whatever though, hope we get some more news soon.

I want a RedOne lead single tbh...and this better not be one of the dark tracks as I'm not here for that. I want a bright and mood lifting lead single rather than the likes of Born This Way.

That was a couple of days ago in New York, she's still using the wheelchair at times though.
She's taking time out for the next month and keeping a low profile, her Grandfather passed away at the weekend too, and she's still recovering from the surgery but her manager confirmed she'll be back with music around May, so not long!

The Sun are reporting that Gaga's first comeback performance will be at the iTunes Festival in the UK in September meaning we should be getting the single before then.
Obviously we can't trust the source anywhere near 100%, but here's hoping they have it right this time...

Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, but i'm actually hoping she ditches Banks especially for the lead single. She really needs to work on making the era run smoothly and something tells me that will be more difficult with Banks riding along too.
If she has ditched her, it could explain why we didn't hear anything for a while as she may have been reworking some of the songs.
Either way (i think) i'm ready.

I can't wait. People are suggesting the lead single is Burqa because of the mask from the promo picture. We'll just wait for the official announcement though.
Gaga has done 2 tracks with Azealia, Ratchet and Red Flame, I hope at least one makes the cut, although not as the lead single.

Whatever this sounds like it's most likely going to be as trend-setting as Just Dance/Poker Face and Bad Romance was. She's really re-thought a lot of things after all the Born This Way critique I'm sure.
And hopefully 600 other promo singles are NOT released at the same time like with the previous era

Lady Gaga has reportedly started shooting her first music video for the upcoming lead single on ARTPOP on Monday, according to fans who met the singer on July 15th. It was also reported that Lady Gaga requested 14 net bodysuits and was apparently working with Idra Alta Moda for the video shoot.

I think all Burqa snippets have been confirmed as fake, so i wouldn't be inclined to believe that just yet. I think it's also been semi-confirmed as NOT being the title of the lead single. Rumours are now pointing towards The Applause being the the lead single as she signed a message a fan on the the way to the video shoot which could suggest that.

Fans were panicking on Twitter when DJWS was announced as the producer behind her first single. He assured the monsters and said that it'll be BIG (and lets be honest, the record label would never release a non-mainstream single for this era after how last era went).

Garibay and RedOne were a lot stronger on the last album than DJWS. I just have a hard time seeing DJWS go mainstream after his productions from the last era. Although Black Jesus does show some promise. Such a massive transition does not happen overnight, with an exception to your David Guettas and Calvin Harris'.
I was hoping she'd go with a new producer but it IS Gaga yaknow, not having faith in her is blasphemy etc.

Either way she needs to invest in some serious hair conditioner or something to sort out that mess for the rest of this era.

I can't help but stress that this is going to be a ballad. Looking at the music video director, and the promo images - you get the ballad sort of vibe. Like a DJWS 'Bloody Mary' sort of ballad, obviously a lot more toned-down to fit the era's theme.

The Edge of Glory single cover is one of my favourites, as well as the Paparazzi and Judas covers.
Gaga said in the interview (on the site the Applause cover was released) that all of the single/album covers this era will be totally different, none will look the same or be from the same shoot. Also, the start of the music video will be Gaga at the end of a concert.
The cover has really grown on me now, I love it.

The tune is from Gaga's forthcoming album ARTPOP, an project she's had plenty of time to focus on since a hip injury earlier this year forced her to cancel a chunk of her Born This Way Ball Tour. The singer used the setback as an opportunity to evaluate her new material with her Haus of Gaga crew. "I had six months to beef up my brain and my body," Gaga told. "I was given the time to really be creative because it's a gazing process, it really is. I have to gaze into the work for long periods of time for it to be good. I have that feeling, that wonderful feeling, when me, Inez [Van Lamsweerde]and Brandon [Maxwell] look at each other and we go, 'It's so good. That's the one.'"

The hip injury – which forced Gaga to cancel 22 shows – was more severe than she previously admitted. "My injury was actually a lot worse than just a labral tear," Gaga said. "I had broken my hip. Nobody knew, and I haven't even told the fans yet. But when we got all the MRIs finished before I went to surgery there were giant craters, a hole in my hip the size of a quarter, and the cartilage was just hanging out the other side of my hip."
She continued, "I had a tear on the inside of my joint and a huge breakage. The surgeon told me that if I had done another show I might have needed a full hip replacement. I would have been out at least a year, maybe longer."
Gaga, who worked with DJ White Shadow on "Applause," also talked about a handful of other collaborations, including one with Robert Wilson for her upcoming gig headlining the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25th. She also discussed working with the performance artist Marina Abramovic and the painter and sculptor Jeff Koons. "[I'm not] defined by the same designer or defined by the same hair cut or defined by the same icon. The statement is that I'm not one icon. I'm every icon," Gaga said. "I'm an icon that is made out of all the colors on the palette at every time. I have no restrictions. No restrictions."
ARTPOP is set for a November 11th release.

The artwork isn't so much BAD as... at odds with what she should be aiming to achieve with this campaign. The other promo images were so natural, and really portrayed a woman who knew what she was doing with great pop (the one where she sits on the electronic equipment in particular was marvellous, symbolising her working with the production and so on while still showing off how pretty she can be). The marketing looked 100% on point. But this is completely different and the public are just going to see Lady Pretentious 2.0 here. Seems like "one step forward, two steps back".

Oddly this is one of the only times post The Fame Monster where I think she ISN'T being pretentious. I don't particularly LIKE the imagery she's going for, but at least there seems to be something behind it.
Oh and I am cautiously optimistic for the single. I hope she's ready to bring just a good old fashioned corker of a song this time. I don't mind if the video/single cover/''message'' is hyped up to the max if the song is good.

The singer, 27, is preparing to release "ARTPOP," her first new album since 2011's "Born This Way," and she's drumming up anticipation for fresh music.
On Monday, the pop star tweeted the artwork for the debut single, "Applause," featuring Gaga with a face covered in white paint and smeared with colorful makeup in the style of a French pantomime artist or pierrot.
Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadlin, who shot the art for "Applause," also directed the yet-to-be-unveiled music video for the song.
Gaga explained the origin of the art and the song in her trademark quixotic style.
"It's the end of the night after the show," Gaga told Women's Wear Daily. "When I look at it I see that there is a longing for the applause. I see that there is a void that is leaking onstage, that the performer is leaking, that the art is sort of becoming something else in front of your eyes. Something more human, more honest."

REALLY HARD to judge from probably the poorest quality clip EVER but the chorus sounds like such a WINNER. It's like PURE PURE POP, the verse (?) after the chorus sounds quite rough though almost dubsteppy, similar to the wild verses of 'Judas'.

First review has surfaced from @MartianTV (ambiguous source but seems legit):
It’s hard to follow up a power anthem like Katy Perry’s new single “Roar.” Luckily, Lady Gaga has some wickedly theatrical vocals and a dream production team behind her.
“Applause” is not quite the followup you’d expect after the massive success of her previous first singles, “Bad Romance” and “Born This Way.” This song is actually rather mute in comparison. Still, this song says a lot about what could be coming from ARTPOP. This song is far more experimental, lyrically and instrumentally, than anything else on the radio. It almost sounds like a song you’d hear from Roisin Murphy or Kelis, but would never gain the popularity it deserves. Of course, since it’s Gaga that won’t be a problem.
Back to Gaga’s theatrical vocals, the verses are rather beautiful. Instead of typical polished pop princess vocals, Gaga kicks up the dramatics and delivers in a way you’d expect an actor to during a musical. At first it was kind of unnerving, but the way her voice wobbles as she sings “I stand here waiting for you to bang the gong,” grew to be one of my favorite parts of the song. She mimics this during the second verse also. Of course, the dramatic wobble effect isn’t nearly as much as Gaga shouting, “Put your hands up, make em touch! Make it real now!” or “Give me that thing that I love, turn the lights on!”
Musically, the song actually has a rather retro feel. If I could relate it to anything, it’d be an old school Nintendo or Sega Genesis game, but sprinkled with today’s production tricks. The clubs will eat this song alive. The way the beat robotically thuds under her vocals the earworm that will get this song stuck in your brain.
Radio? That’s a tricky one. Radio will either embrace is, or drop it as soon as the radio deal fizzles like Madonna’s “Give Me All Your Lovin.”
PS: She mentions something about being a coonce (sp?). I don’t know what that is, so if someone could let me know… it’ll help me better make sense of the verse, “One second I’m the coonce then suddenly the coonce is me.”
The radio support bit EEK.
Künstler is German for "artist" so it's that (hopefully)

Had everything kept to schedule with the music video premiering on the day the song releases and gathering some radio deal, it seems like a guaranteed #1 but if she rushes it, a Bad Romance situation may occur in the US..

It's decent. She's had better (Poker Face, Bad Romance), but she's had much worse as well (BORN THIS WAY). My only real issue is the same one that I've always had with her - the fact that she over promises and under delivers. She made it seem ground breaking from her tweets, when it's just a perfectly alright, but rather generic song.
Roar is better, if that comparison really has to be made.

I was going to avoid it for as long as possible until the hype died down, but I gave in and listened because I was quite curious anyway. It's actually really good (better than Roar if we have to be doing that), and I'm far from being a Gaga fan. Good work.
