So I've been listening to Ella Henderson's album recently and 'Ghost' really is the best thing on there and one of the best singles of the year so far. I'd also say it's one of the best pop debut singles for many years. What songs would you consider to be the best pop debuts? These are the 5 I instantly thought of.
Britney Spears - …Baby One More Time Ella Henderson - Ghost Girls Aloud - Sound Of The Underground One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful Spice Girls - Wannabe

Hurts - Better Than Love Kate Nash - Foundations Lily Allen - Smile Marina & the Diamonds - Obsessions Michelle Branch - Everywhere t.A.T.u. - All the Things She Said

All The Things She Said will hardly ever been beaten as debuts. I know that sounds like loon talk but the production, structure and impact was awesome.

The Vamps - Can We Dance Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex Cheryl Cole - Fight For This Love (well I guess she had Girls Aloud before that but still her solo debut) Sara Bareilles - Love Song
^ my faves that haven't yet been mentioned!

I have to agree with 'All The Things She Said', amazing song and had a massive impact. Of course Britney too.
And I have to add 'Once' by Diana Vickers.

Unpopular opinion, but for me 'Genie In A Bottle' is a better debut than '... Baby One More Time', although I am aware its status is nowhere near as high.
(Still love '... Baby' of course though)

I prefer Genie ina Bottle to One More Time too. I like the music in it a lot more.
Natalie Imbruglia - Torn Daniel Beddingfield - Gotta Get Through This.

She'd released low-key stuff in Canada before 'Call Me Maybe', kind of in the same way that most people think of Jagged Little Pill as being Alanis Morissette's debut album when it isn't.
Posted by: JosephStyles 17th October 2014, 10:29 AM
Yeah Carly had four singles before Call Me Maybe from her debut album. Similar in a way to Delta Goodrem releasing I Don't Care, a relative flop and a completely different sound to anything she did later, before her commercial breakthrough hit Born To Try.

Well, it depends what you consider a debut. Should putting out a limited 7" with no video/radio release count? As for Hurts, I know they made a video for Wonderful Life, wasn't Better Than Love actually released first?

I agree! A close second to "Untouchable", ok). But, 'Beat Of My Drum' if FIRE, still somehow seems leagues ahead of anything on radio! A true 11/10 moment for pop.
Is her whole album good? I have "Porcelain Heart" and "Lucky Day", which are both

Nicola's album is BRILLIANT, by far and away the best GA solo album. Definitely worth a listen, it's excellent throughout
BOMD is excellent although I wouldn't put it anywhere near the top with GA's best material, just because very little is close to that really.
