So I've been wanting to do something like this for a while and I've finally managed to get an order that I am happy (or at least content) with!

Hoping to kick start this soon-ish/within the next day or two! Any predictions as to what will win/come top 10? What films would you guys like to see in this countdown?

Posted by: johnjo07 Mar 14 2016, 03:51 AM

The following are NOT in contention due to being 2016 releases/will (hopefully) be in a future countdown.

'The Revenant'
'Room'
'Deadpool'
'Spotlight'

Posted by: jsilv Mar 14 2016, 07:59 AM

Very excited for this Jonjo, we seem to have quite similar tastes! Mine would consist of lots of Marvel, Hunger Games and Harry Potter goodness probably so hoping to see those sorts of things here.

Room and Deadpool would both be in my list too I think, my top 2 films of this year so far actually. Spotlight was fantastic too but I didn't love it enough to put it top 100 biggrin.gif

Posted by: Regina Mar 14 2016, 10:05 AM

I feel other than Superhero movies our tastes will be vastly different laugh.gif looking forward to it nevertheless.

Posted by: johnjo07 Mar 14 2016, 04:46 PM

Hopefully starting tonight. Will see how I feel after work, but for now, here's a list of movies that just failed to make the top 100!

'Wild'
'Dredd'*
'Interstellar'*
‘Hobbit 2: Desolation of Smaug’
‘This Is 40’*
‘Evil Dead’
‘Monsters University’
‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’
'Veronica Mars'
'Four Lions'
'The Other Guys'
'Everest'
'Chappie'*
'It Follows'*
'Easy A'
'The Crazies'*
'Legend'
'Birdman'
'Whiplash'

Those with a * next to them are films which could feature higher if I give them a rewatch, due to not seeing them since their theatrical releases!

So hyped for this Jonjo, should be great! heart.gif

'The Revenant'

What a shame kink.gif

________________________________________________________________

Wild, Monsters University, Whiplash and Easy A are my highlights from the movies that just missed out, all terrific movies heart.gif heart.gif

Love This Is 40, Evil Dead, The Crazies and Easy A wub.gif

Hoping to see some Horror representation here!

Posted by: jsilv Mar 14 2016, 08:06 PM

I was never that big on Wild really although I thought Reese was fantastic, just got a bit boring and not sure why it has so many lovers here.

Never been a fan of Easy A either, I liked all the characters but just didn't even laugh once so ended up getting a bit bored woops.

A big fan of Interstellar (so pretty and emotional too when he goes back to see his daughter :'( ), This Is 40 (pretty funny, Melissa McCarthy especially), Monsters University, Birdman and Chappie (one of the cutest characters of last year wub.gif)

My favourite on the list is Whiplash though, just so intense throughout with some insanely good acting.

100. 'TROLLHUNTER' [2010]
IMDB Rating: 7.0/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 82%

Starting this whole thing off is an independant, Norewgian, non-English film. 'Trollhunter' is another one of those "found footage"/recorded all on camera, mockumentary style films. But this time, it involves, yep you guessed it, Trolls. Not the long haired, kid-friendly trolls of the 90's... Massive, scary trolls! After a group of bears are found dead, a group of students take it upon themselves to investigate it further. But everything is not as it seems when they come face-to-face with the huge creatures. It has the right amount of fear, dread, tension and even some really dry wit and you actually route for the students to get out of it all... alive!

This is not the only non-English film in my countdown! Expect more!

---

099. 'THE LINCOLN LAWYER' [2011]
IMDB Rating: 7.3/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 83%

Up next is the film which is often viewed and cited as the real start of the "Mcconaissance", as it sees Matthew McConaughey play a lawyer for a convicted criminal who has just been sent to prison for assaulting a prostitute. It's a very good crime drama and thriller! It's kind of a sister to one of Matthew's earlier breakout roles 'A Time To Kill' (1996). Definitely worth a watch if you can find the time. It's full of drama, tension and it has your usual amount of twist and turns.

Also, 'A Time To Kill' is actually better than this, so if you find the time to watch that, then I'd fully recommend to do so!

Posted by: johnjo07 Mar 16 2016, 12:14 AM

098. 'SOURCE CODE' [2011]
IMDB Rating: 7.5/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 92%

Next we see the fantastic thriller, 'Source Code'. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga and it's about an ex soldier, who wakes up to find he's in somebody else's body as part of an experiment and it's his job to track down the bomber of a commuter train and try to do so, within 8 minutes. It sounds pretty silly and "straight to DVD"-esque but not only is it thrilling and has solid performances from all the cast involved, it feels unique and does it in a way where it's not cheesy or predictable.

---

097. 'SICARIO' [2015]
IMDB Rating: 7.7/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 93%

Here we are with the most recent entry to the list, so far, 'Sicario'. Yet another thriller with outstanding performances. Although it reached my top 100 here, I can't help but feel slightly disappointed in it and I feel this was one of those that benefitted the most from being a recent entry. I was fully expecting it to be top 10 of the year and possibly top 50 in this countdown. I liked it a lot, but it wasn't enjoyable. It's slightly over hyped (93%? No wayyy), but it really is worth watching at least the once. The performances were brilliant and the direction and cinematography are gorgeous! I think it's the script that lets it down for me, but if you look away from that it is a good/great film.

Posted by: Regina Mar 16 2016, 12:32 PM

I have not seen ANY of these laugh.gif oops.

Really want to see Source Code still never got round to seeing it laugh.gif

Nearly same for me also!

Only seen Sicario which was quite interesting but a bit confusing, however the terrific performances boosted the movie into a very good one!

Posted by: jsilv Mar 16 2016, 10:20 PM

I've only seen Sicario from these, wouldn't be anywhere near this high on mine but I can appreciate that it is good film-making. Just made me too uncomfortable and films of the thriller genre just aren't my cup of tea really.

Recorded Source Code the other day, think it was on Film 4 so I'll get round to watching it soon!

096. 'THE HUNGER GAMES' [2012]
IMDB Rating: 7.3/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 84%

Ooh and next we have a film which seems to be a huge Buzzjack fave. It's the first of 4 'The Hunger Games' films and, spoiler alert, it's the highest of the franchise. Such a fascinating concept and one I think Hollywood pulled it off extremely well, for the most part. Especially in the first film, where I think they managed to find the grittiness of the concept and executed it so well for a 12A! The scene with the neck snap was unlike anything I'd seen/heard in a 12A movie before. Still shocks me to this day and really sticks out as a memory in my cinema experience.

---

095. 'Despicable Me 2' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.5/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 74%

At number 95 is the first animation in the list, the 2013 box office smash, 'Despicable Me 2'. An animated sequel which is a thousand more times better than the original. They managed to focus the RIGHT amount of time on the Minions, without them becoming "too much". It's a funny, joyous thrill ride when watching it. It's like they rewatched the first film and took all the good bits and worked on that, which is what so many sequels usually get wrong. Such a fun and family friendly film.

Posted by: johnjo07 Mar 18 2016, 04:38 PM

094. 'THE MARTIAN' [2015]
IMDB Rating: 8.1/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 92%

Up next is another recent entry and this time it's Ridley Scott's comedy sci-fi epic, 'The Martian'. With what seem to be the norm for sci-fi films lately, it looks just as beautiful and just as gorgeous as the rest. Stunning cinematography, great use of effects, fantastic cast. One of the only nitpicks I can say is that whilst it was a solid effort overall, in places it felt like it dragged and it could have been cut down a few minutes for several of the scenes. The script was impressively witty though and Matt Damon arguably, gave the performance of his career.

---

093. 'Iron Man 3' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.3/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 79%

And joining this section, we have the first of about 15 or 16 Superhero movies, 'Iron Man 3'! One of the more under appreciated Marvel films imo. One which a lot of people either seem to find "ok" or "boring". But I think the general consensus seems to be that it's better than the disappointing 2nd movie of the 'Iron Man' franchise. Robert Downey Jr. is obviously in the role of his career and he really excels at bringing Iron Man and Tony Stark to life. The first 'Iron Man' film is one of my absolute favourites and I regard it as the film that got me into the Superhero genre. The 3rd would be a good final 'Iron Man' film if Robert decides to step down for whatever reason. It has just as much heart and thrills as the superhero films that came before it, imo.

Posted by: Regina Mar 18 2016, 04:55 PM

Sebby made The Martian obv.

Robert Downey Jr ruined the character of Iron Man and every movie he's made since the first one seems to be a variation on the Tony Stark character. Defo one of the weakest Marvel movie series'

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 Mar 21 2016, 08:27 PM

The Martian and Iron Man 3 are both very good films, would probably rate both around 8.5/10!

That HG, DM2 section though heart.gif heart.gif heart.gif
Both films are in my top 5 (at least) of their respective years so excellent to see them appear here and especially next to each other! The Hunger Games is thrilling and J-Law is incredible and DM2 is so cute and gets the character blend perfect wub.gif

Posted by: jsilv Mar 28 2016, 10:19 PM

The Martian is definitely my fave of the three big space movies in recent years, I loved the humour aspect and Mark Watney was so likeable, almost too much so because every Earth scene I was just wishing we'd cut back to Mars. A really good film though and all the visuals were great, I'd love to rewatch it soon.

Never got round to Iron Man 3, I've seen all MCU movies apart from IM2 and IM3 because I hate the first one so mcuh, it was just so boring and Tony is such an idiot I hate watching him onscreen and all the action scenes were so dull. I do own the second one on DVD so will get around to it soon but I don't think I'll be paying a fiver for the third instalment anytime soon.

Excited for more of this!

092. 'Django Unchained' [2012]
IMDB Rating: 8.5/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 88%

Quentin Tarantino's slave film, 'Django Unchained' makes it's way into my top 100 of the decade, so far. I've only seen it once, but I liked it a lot. The only thing that drags it down for me is the length of it. However, it has such a superb cast and all of them performed exceptionally! Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Kerry Washington, Samuel L Jackson and most notably, Leonardo DiCaprio! Interesting fact (that I found out like a week ago) when Leonardo smashes his hand on the table in the dinner table scene, he legit cuts his hand.

---

091. 'Fast & Furious 6' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.2/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 69%

Up next we have something I class as a bit of a surprise. I really didn't think much of this franchise before this film. Cars never really interested me. But I think with the 6th one, they finally made it into a little bit of a cheesy thriller and it was all the better for it. I finally "got" why it was as popular as it was, although I don't think anyone was ready for it to suddenly blow up the way it did with this film. It's such a uniquely successful franchise, especially rare for a film franchise to peak so late into the franchise!

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 4 2016, 03:11 PM

090. 'Olympus Has Fallen' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 6.5/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 48%

So at #90 we have a film which I only recently saw for the first time not too long ago. It ended up being a huge, cheese fest and it was all the better for it. A lot of cheese, but not too much and it was perfect. Gerard is a convincing lead action hero. Aaron Eckhart served as a good President too. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of gore in this for a Hollywood flick. It's just a shame 'London Has Fallen' is actually atrocious and jumps the shark on more than one occasion... but ah well.

---

089. 'Scream 4' [2011]
IMDB Rating: 6.2/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 59%

At 89, we see a franchise be reinvented and re-born. It's the really under appreciated 4th film in the 'Scream' franchise. Not only does it have the original cast members in it, it also uses them to try and pass the torch onto a new generation and although I personally feel they succeeded, it wasn't a big hit at all and it's considered to be somewhat of a flop. I blame the fact they killed off Hayden's character!... I really recommend this to those who are fans of the original trilogy. It's pretty self aware and it's really quite witty at times. Also, remember... you don't f*** with the originals!

Posted by: mdh Apr 4 2016, 03:21 PM

‘Monsters University’
'Despicable Me 2'
'Fast and Furious 6'
'The Hunger Games'

..are all really good films.

Whiplash is amazing, undoubtebly one of my favourite films of the past few months, such and gripping storyline and so fast flowing - definetly one of the best films of last year, if not the best. I see it's on Sky Movies Drama again on Friday night, I'll watch it again.

Posted by: Regina Apr 4 2016, 04:25 PM

Scream 4 was a bit odd laugh.gif they made such an effort promoting the "nee generation" but then killed them ALL off exceot the creepy deputy
The opening was up there with the first one for being a mind f*** and Adam Brody in uniform omg.

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 6 2016, 09:55 PM

088. 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' [2015]
IMDB Rating: 7.3/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 68%

#88 sees a film which got released last year, but I only got around to watching for the first time the last month or so! A pleasantly surprising and enjoyable film. Spy is most definitely not my genre of choice, but 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' manages to produce not only a great action, packed and tense film, but also managed to find the perfect blend of funny and serious. I think on repeated viewings this will really hold up well for me. A stellar cast and enjoyable script is always a sign of a great film.

---

087. 'Jurassic World' [2015]
IMDB Rating: 7.1/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 72%

The first (of many) true blockbusters in my countdown! 'Jurassic World' managed to surprise everybody and not only be one of the biggest box office successes of the last few years, but also managed to actually be a really enjoyable film and be decent, if often cheesy! My favourite part in the whole film was the nostalgic throwback to the first film, I thought that was perfectly placed and didn't feel like it was shoe horned in just to please fans. It was a great and emotional touch. Excited to see what else they can bring to the franchise now that they've managed to successfully breathe life back into it!

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 10 2016, 07:07 PM

086. 'Paranormal Activity 2' [2010]
IMDB Rating: 5.7/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 58%

Up next is the only movie in this countdown, from a franchise that I really enjoy! 'Paranormal Activity 2' managed to find a really nice balance of scary, tense and just pure enjoyable cheese! It doesn't compare to the first movie in the franchise, but it's still a solid follow up that stays true to the original. The rest of the franchise will not be featuring though, because as much as I enjoy this franchise, the others really didn't come close to being in my top 100 of the Decade so far!

---

085. 'Super 8' [2011]
IMDB Rating: 7.1/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 82%

'Super 8' is up next and is another one of those "found footage" movies. This time it's from super director JJ Abrams and super producer Steven Spielberg. Someone I know summed it up perfectly "this movie is basically JJ Abrams saying "Spielberg, I LOVE YOU"." and it really is. It's really tense and I found it gripping! I could do with rewatching it again, but it's a great movie and one that I would highly recommend to someone who is looking for a good and recent Sci-Fi movie!

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 10 2016, 09:16 PM

084. 'Pitch Perfect 2' [2015]
IMDB Rating: 6.5/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 66%

At #84 is the sequel to the surprise smash hit, 'Pitch Perfect'. The first movie is still to come in my countdown and it was at this point that I realised just how strong and how much I loved my top 100! I thought this would be a lot higher, but I guess not! I think it's maybe this low due to it not managing to capture the same magic as the first one did, but even so, it's still a fantastic, funny and emotional ride. I don't think anyone can take away the chemistry that this cast have together <3

---

083. '21 Jump Street' [2012]
IMDB Rating: 7.2/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 85%

On the contrary to 'Pitch Perfect 2', we have the first film of 2 films from the 'Jump Street' franchise to drop out. '21 Jump Street' was such a pleasant surprise. A lot of humour, a decent story and great cast, who have strong chemistry together. Channing Tatum is a surprisingly good comedic actor! I'm glad he's doing more roles on that side of things, even if he peaks in the 2nd film! laugh.gif If you're looking for a joyous, fun and often silly (but not off puttingly so) comedy-action film, then I can't recommend this film enough.

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 11 2016, 06:21 PM

082. 'Black Swan' [2011]
IMDB Rating: 8.0/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 86%

If you'd have told me that in 2010 I was going to like a film that is centered about the troubles of becoming a huge star in ballet, I would've told you to "get real" or something. But that was not the case. Natalie Portman gives one of the best roles of her career with this film about a ballet dancer literally giving blood, sweat and tears for the role of her life. A good cast, a director who has a clear vision and where he wants to take things and then THAT scene with Mila Kunis... what's not to love?

---

081. 'Disconnect' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.6/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 68%

In at #81 is an indie film that got an extremely limited WW release and wasn't available in the UK, until sometime last year, where it got a UK debut! 'Disconnect' is one of those multi-story films, that all comes together and ties in with one another. Much like 'Men, Women & Children' (which got a wider release) except 10x better! A great cast all around and some fantastic performances from everyone involved. I really can't recommend this film enough. So if you manage to stumble on it somehow and wanna give something the benefit of a doubt and just watch on a whim, I'd recommend this.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 Apr 14 2016, 02:42 PM

Hated Olympus Has Fallen sad.gif

Love Pitch Perfect 2 and 21 Jump Street, though agree with you that the franchises respective film is the better one! Also loved U.N.C.L.E and find it so underrated, such a fun film that really deserved to be a box office hit heart.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 17 2016, 11:04 PM

080. 'World War Z' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.0/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 67%

As a huge 'The Walking Dead' fan, the list wouldn't be complete without at least ONE zombie/virus movie at least, right? Well, here we have one of the best Zombie movies in recent times (and in all honesty, the films have been really lackluster on those parts!) 'World War Z'. Based on a novel, Brad Pitt plays the main character in which he is chosen as ex law enforcement, to try and find the cure! It has some terrifying scenes and moments, particularly the bit where they're running up to the roof!

---

079. '127 Hours' [2010]
IMDB Rating: 7.6/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 93%

Up next is the critically acclaimed '127 Hours'. It told the true story of an adventurous guy, who on one fateful day, managed to get his arm trapped in between a cave wall and a boulder, also managed to somehow not tell anyone where he was going on this day! It focuses on his escape and also tells a story of his life at the same time. It's really fascinating and although I assume a lot of it was added for extra effect/entertainment purposes, you get the general idea and jist of his torturous few days of being down there with not a lot of food, water or nobody managing to hear his cry for help. A very well deserved Oscar nomination for James Franco, in his most daring and real role to date.

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 18 2016, 03:52 PM

078. 'Buried' [2010]
IMDB Rating: 7.0/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 87%

At #78 we have a film which is about being buried alive. Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) is working in Iraq and is taken hostage and wakes up to find himself trapped in a box. With little-no battery left in his phone, he desperately seeks to find a way out, all with obstacles in the way. It sounds boring (I mean come on, the whole film is pretty much him, trapped in a box...), but it's SO FRICKING TENSE! This is not one for those who are claustrophobic. I'm not even claustrophobic, but I felt uneasy! Ryan delivers a great performance and shows why he is an actor. He owns the camera and has a certain charm and likeability! BE WARNED THOUGH the ending is depressing af!

---

077. 'Argo' [2012]
IMDB Rating: 7.8/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96%

Another number down and another critic smash, 'Argo'! Ben Affleck is not only the star of it, but he's also the director of it and what an awesome film for him. It's based on a true story as a US embassy in Tehran is attacked and US hostages are taken, 6 of them manage to get away and find refuge in the Canadian embassy, where they enlist the help of Tony Mendez (Affleck) to try and get the out with no harm. It's not an easy process! A very gripping thriller and really tense, well worth the watch!

'Black Swan' is my favourite of the lot so far I think - Mila Kunis is sfg! Really enjoyed '21 Jump Street' and 'Super 8' was good too. Looking forward to seeing what else is to come biggrin.gif

Black Swan is a stunning movie, Natalie deserved that Oscar. The bit with Sebby was amazing too obv.

Big big fan of Black Swan and 21 Jump Street out of that last lot! This countdown has jogged my mind of so many films I need to see in the near future!

Each to their own I guess! tongue.gif I think RDJ really owns his Iron Man character! I agree that in every film he's done since he seems to be playing just a slight variation of Tony in them and don't particularly rate him much as an actor outside of the Marvel movies. Sebastian was about as good as the rest of the supporting cast in all honesty. I really wanna see him in a major role where he is the main character. I'm not too familiar with his work beyond Bucky really! He has great potential. What film would you recommend me to watch where he's actually great as one of the main cast members?

Ooh glad to see you enjoyed 'Iron Man 3' about as much as I did! Great film. I think they got the balance of the minions perfect during DM2! 'Minions' was a bit "too much of one thing is never a good thing" for me. They just started irritating me, which is a shame because they're the best part of the DM movies!

Aw. It's a shame you don't really like 'Iron Man'! I think you should at least try the other 2, see if you get on with them a bit more, but if you hate Tony, I can't see you thinking much to them! Perhaps rewatch the first 'Iron Man' at some point too, maybe? ohmy.gif

I enjoyed 'Whiplash', I just thought it was quite inconsistent and found it to be dragging in a few too many places. JK Simmons was exceptional though and Miles Teller was great, too!

Scream 4 was a bit odd laugh.gif they made such an effort promoting the "nee generation" but then killed them ALL off exceot the creepy deputy
The opening was up there with the first one for being a mind f*** and Adam Brody in uniform omg.
Yeahhh that was all a bit... "well, thennnn. What now?" laugh.gif Super annoyed they killed off Kirby though drama.gif

TBC...

'Olympus' was actually really cheesy, but it was the right side of cheesy! 'London...' however was far, FAR worse and a bit TOO much. They definitely jumped the shark one too many times with that film!

I really want them to keep 'U.N.C.L.E.' going as it's own franchise. I could see it growing and growing! Most people who have seen it seem to have enjoyed it. Plus I don't think I want Bond to continue after never really getting the fuss with it, but absolutely loving the Bourne franchise as well as this now. hope Taron stays away from it and he sticks with 'Kingsman' too...

'Black Swan' is my favourite of the lot so far I think - Mila Kunis is sfg! Really enjoyed '21 Jump Street' and 'Super 8' was good too. Looking forward to seeing what else is to come biggrin.gif
Mila is definitely one of the highlights of BS! It's the film that made me take proper notice of her *.* Thanks for commenting Bal! <3 <3 <3

Black Swan is a stunning movie, Natalie deserved that Oscar. The bit with Sebby was amazing too obv.

Big big fan of Black Swan and 21 Jump Street out of that last lot! This countdown has jogged my mind of so many films I need to see in the near future!
Yay! That's hopefully the aim, to get people's interests in certain films they might not have seen otherwise, or to reignite certain interests in films they've put off for so long. wub.gif Thanks for commenting heart.gif

Thanks to all of you so far *.*

076. 'Chronicle' [2012]
IMDB Rating: 7.1/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 85%

Another number and another film which is presented all on handheld camera. This time it's the super power flick, 'Chronicle'! Shit goes awry when three lads find a hole in the middle of a parking lot and decide to go into the hole... and after some form of explosion, they realise they have super powers. At first they like it and think it's "cool" until one of them (Dane DeHaan) loses control and can't properly deal with it. Such a good "popcorn filler" movie. It's an interesting concept that brings a sense of realism to having super powers.

---

075. 'The Great Gatsby' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.3/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 48%

Up next is 'The Great Gatsby'. Starring my favourite actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, 'The Great Gatsby' was not only a good story, but a complete visual treat. Stunning and elegant, everything about this just oozed classiness. The perfect cast. A great script and a superb director. It also had a very interesting and intriguing soundtrack. Modern, classic hits all re-invisioned with a 1920's style twist, as well as a great original song from Lana Del Rey! I'm surprised at it's Rotten Tomatoes score tbh. I thought it'd be safely over 70%!

Posted by: Joe. Apr 28 2016, 02:44 PM

Chronicle is brilliant. Such a cleverly made film. I really wanted a sequel.

Posted by: Jonjo Jun 24 2016, 04:02 PM

074. 'Gravity' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.8/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96%

And so we continue and at #74 we have 'Gravity'. A film which is set in space and focuses on a mission gone really wrong and ends up with the main character, trying her hardest to get herself back to Earth and get out of the current mess she is in. After a lot of words of wisdom and thinking about things she manages to get things going, but all with complications. It's not quite as boring as you'd probably think and is a whole lot more tense and more stunning visually than you'd probably think too. Definitely worth a look.

---

073. 'Captain Phillips' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.9/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 93%

At #73 we have a film which is based on the true story about an American cargo ship getting hijacked by Somali Pirates and Captain Phillips being held captive as a hostage. Thoroughly tense and extremely emotional, I was take aback by how good it actually was. Tom Hanks is one of the most watchable actors out there right now and he manages to draw you into the story and make you feel so much compassion for his character. Barkhad Abdi however, is absolutely terrifying and manages to really raise the tensions with his back and forth chemistry with Tom! Well worth a watch, imo. Another watch and I think this could be even higher for me!

Posted by: BASTILLEmdh Jun 27 2016, 04:36 PM

Two of my favourite films of 2013! Both are really good, Gravity was so good even if some people branded it boring, and Captain Phillips is an instant classic.

Posted by: Jonjo Jun 27 2016, 05:42 PM

072. 'Blackfish' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 8.1/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 98%

Continuing with the countdown and we have a documentary film. Usually, when it comes to films I'm more into the faux-documentary types or a "mockumentary" if you will. However, this is VERY real and such an interesting look at what goes on behind the scenes at the biggest aquatic corporation, Seaworld. I really don't know how people can come out of watching this and feeling anything other than sad and angry at the whole prospect of a corporation like this. It's a real eye opener and I have vowed to never step foot in or even near a Seaworld. It's cruel and hellacious for all animals involved. Such a thoroughly gripping documentary that no matter how painful the stories are to hear, they're valuable and definitely need watching.

---

071. 'Godzilla' [2014]
IMDB Rating: 6.5/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 74%

Almost into the top 70 and we have a film of monster proportions. It's the 2014 remake of the classic story of 'Godzilla'! I think by now we all know the general story of Godzilla and how he became the monster that he is. However, this film brought it all back to the very beginning and the only downfall to the film for me, was that they wasted Bryan Cranston, COMPLETELY. Slow to get into, but once it gets going, you're on the edge of your seat throughout. Looking forward to the sequel and the rumoured Godzilla vs. King Kong movie that's supposedly in the pipes!

Posted by: Josh. Jun 27 2016, 07:16 PM

Captain Phillips has been on my watchlist for a long time now, I'm a fan of Tom Hanks and it really looks so intense so I must get around to watching it sometime!

I did enjoy Gravity for its excellent visuals and fairly captivating storyline but The Martian blew it out of the water for me, the latter will definitely be my go-to space flick for the future I think!

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 30 2016, 04:05 PM

Gonna continue this! LMAO. Not gonna keep it unfinished drama.gif

070. '22 Jump Street' [2014]
IMDB Rating: 7.1/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 84%

In the top 70 we have a feel-good, doesn't take itself seriously, fun comedy in '22 Jump Street'! The sequel to 2012's surprise smash hit '21 Jump Street', which featured in my countdown, earlier! The chemistry between Channing and Jonah is fantastic. They bounce off each other so well and they both work superbly with other cast members. Full of iconic moments such as the scene that became a meme "My name is Jeff", "Say something cool..." "something cooooool" and my personal favourite of the two franchises, when Channing's character finds out that Jonah's character is sleeping with the chief's daughter! Extremely LOL and really cheers me up.

---

069. 'Maniac' [2012]
IMDB Rating: 6.1/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 49%

Up next is a unique horror experience. Shot entirely in the POV of the "maniac" (Elijah Wood), this stylish, yet clever horror doesn't hold back. It's all tense, nerving, grim, bloody and creepy all rolled into one. Elijah really excels at portraying an unhinged maniacal murderer. If that isn't enough to grip you, he has a weird and random obsession with mannequins! Mannequin's themselves are scary enough. Really pleasantly surprised at this!

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 30 2016, 04:19 PM

068. 'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 6.3/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 75%

Here, we have another comedy. This time the sequel to the 2001 smash hit comedy, 'Anchorman'! It's just as silly and good as it's counterpart and the characters are just as funny! Steve Carrell's character, Brick, is still the easy highlight for me. He really steals the show and just embodies the character so, SO well! His chemistry with Kristen Wiig is outstanding and I think we could've had a bit more from them both, but what we did get of them was very funny and sweet and perfect for their characters!

---

067. 'The Theory Of Everything' [2014]
IMDB Rating: 7.7/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 79%

We have an Oscar winner up next and for the Oscar they won it for, it was completely and utterly deserved! Eddie Redmayne's performance as Stephen Hawkings was one of the very best performances this side of the decade at least. He seemed to really commit to the role and it seems like he did his research on Stephen Hawkings. A very powerfully moving and gripping movie that surpassed expectations and isn't as "boring" as you'd probably believe it to be. It's a little slow at times, but it doesn't distract from how beautiful the story is!

Posted by: Regina Sep 30 2016, 05:49 PM

I hate Will Ferrell with a passion but kinda like Anchorman, just cause of Paul Rudd and Christina Applegate.

QUOTE(Jonjo @ Apr 18 2016, 11:28 PM) *
Each to their own I guess! tongue.gif I think RDJ really owns his Iron Man character! I agree that in every film he's done since he seems to be playing just a slight variation of Tony in them and don't particularly rate him much as an actor outside of the Marvel movies. Sebastian was about as good as the rest of the supporting cast in all honesty. I really wanna see him in a major role where he is the main character. I'm not too familiar with his work beyond Bucky really! He has great potential. What film would you recommend me to watch where he's actually great as one of the main cast members?

*Better late than never*

He's not really had that many big juicy roles tbh, other than The Covenant which is kinda dire laugh.gif The Bronze is his best one, shows off his comedic side (and his body) very rauncy.
He is pretty good in Ricki & The Flash too, what little screen time he gets.

His TV work is better IMO, Once Upon A Time, Political Animals and Labyrinth are all brilliant. Plus there's this really epic monologue

Posted by: DalekTurret32 Sep 30 2016, 07:55 PM

From the movies I've seen:

The Hunger Games (really like this movie. Managed to see every film of this franchise so far in a cinema.) [9/10]
Despicable Me 2 (though I didn't enjoy it as much as the first film, it was still a pretty good watch) [8/10]
The Martian (really interesting and cool film) [10/10]
Django Unchained (excellent film) [10/10]
I've only seen like the first ten minutes of Man From UNCLE. Sadly, I had to stop it before I could finish it.
21 Jump Street + 22 Jump Street (really love those films) [10/10 for both]

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 Oct 1 2016, 11:44 AM

22 Jump Street is my favourite since you've restarted this! Fantastic comedy which was surprisingly even better on 2nd watch wub.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 7 2017, 01:00 AM

066. 'Still Alice' [2014]
IMDB Rating: 7.5/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 88%

Up next is the award winning drama, 'Still Alice'. Julianne Moore plays Alice who is a linguistics professor and it follows her journey as she is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Julianne Moore, puts in one of the best, standalone performances in recent years. Both charming and absolutely devastating and heartbreaking, it's a must see for her performance alone.

---

065. 'Ex Machina' [2015]
IMDB Rating: 7.7/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 93%

At #65 is the futuristic, sci-fi, thriller 'Ex Machina'. Featuring Jonjo fave Oscar Isaac and up & coming actors in both Domhnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander. Domhnall's character is a young programmer who is invited to go and evaluate the human interactions of an advanced A.I. All 3 of the actors put in some stellar performances. Alicia especially. She plays the A.I. perfectly!

---

064. 'Thor: The Dark World' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.1/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 66%

Up next and we come to the second MCU movie in the top 100 (ahead of 'Iron Man 3'), 'Thor: Dark World'. Iirc, this one got panned and seemed to get a lukewarm reception from fans, but I really enjoyed it. I thought it was far superior to the first movie (which is my least favourite in the MCU... BITE ME!) it seemed a lot more, fun and just had a lot more going for it. Whereas the first seemed to be quite empty and anti-climatic to me.

---

063. 'How To Train Your Dragon 2' [2014]
IMDB Rating: 7.9/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 92%

At #63 is another animated movie and another sequel. This time it's Dreamworks Animations, 'How To train Your Dragon 2'. It's no surprise that I generall have a dislike and disdain to a lot of Dreamworks animations (a lot of them tend to be overrated or just tripe - Shrek, Over The Hedge, Flushed Away etc..) but I do feel that they've struck magic with the HTTYD franchise. Toothless is one of the most beautiful and cutest characters in the world of animation, for me. What a gorgeous dragon. Makes me wish he was real </3 but yeah, the 2nd movie is better than the first for me and really tugs at the heartstrings in a couple of scenes! Towards the end especially! :'(

---

062. 'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' [2015]
IMDB Rating: 6.4/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 48%

In at #62 is the dystopian future, sci-fi film, 'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials'. For me, the Maze Runner franchise is better than the other franchises in that genre ('Hunger Games', 'Divergent' etc..). The cast don't seem to be as annoying as the others and I really believe Dylan is an actor to watch out for in the future. He brings a sense of realism and shows leadership skills pretty well in this. I think where 'The Maze Runner' benefits the most for me, is that going into both of the movies, I had little to low expectations "another 'Hunger Games' rip-off" etc... but they're far from that and pleasantly surprised me. They seem quite a bit darker than their peers too! This whole franchise is under appreciated, imo.

---

061. 'American Sniper' [2015]
IMDB Rating: 7.3/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 72%

Aaaand just missing out on the top 60 is Clint Eastwood's 'American Sniper'. It follows the Navy S.E.A.L's most prolific Sniper, Chris Kyle and how he managed to eliminate the enemies so carefully with carefully executed missions. But what 'American Sniper' does, which not many other war related movies tend to do, is focus on the psychological aspects of war and the effects it has on the soldiers when they've returned home from serving their country. I was really impressed with this movie (even if a lot of it seemed fabricated, apparently) and Bradley was fantastic in the role of Chris Kyle.

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 7 2017, 03:02 PM

060. 'Mad Max: Fury Road' [2015]
IMDB Rating: 8.1/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 97%

Now it's time for one of the most critically acclaimed films of recent times. 'Mad Max: Fury Road'. When it was announced that there was to be another Mad Max movie, people were crying out "WWWHHHHHYYYY!?!? WHAT'S THE POINT?!" etc... your standard reaction to when it's announced that Hollywood are either rebooting or remaking. Tom Hardy was then announced and people were like "Ok. But I still don't get why" and the trailer got released. People got hyped, but I don't think anyone expected the outcome that they eventually got. A thrilling, fast paced, car chase with some seriously stunning and beautiful visuals. The story had more purpose than one would believe if I was to tell you "it's basically one giant car chase". Tom Hardy was absolutely brilliant, despite saying so little, but it was Charlize Theron, who stole the show.

---

059. 'Me and Earl and The Dying Girl' [2015]
IMDB Rating: 7.8/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 82%

Up next is the commercial, indie flick, 'Me and Earl and The Dying Girl'. A movie that is guaranteed to tug at the heart strings and take you on a rollercoaster of emotions throughout. A character or two may do douchey things, but the heart of the story is what keeps it all together. Despite it's predictable outcome, it gives you a feel good ending.

---

058. 'Frozen' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.6/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 89%

At #58 is a film which went completely under the radar, which is a shame, because if it had been given the chance 'Let It Go' could've been a monster hit.... That's right, 'Frozen' is next to leave my top 100! Considering this is another Disney Princess film, this is a great showing for it in one of my countdowns. The fact they have more than just a couple of likeable characters, 'Frozen' has a handful. The message is so important to sisters all around the world, too. Plus, we have some BANGING songs. 'Let It Go', 'Do You Want To Build A Snowman?', 'For The First Time In Forever' (both versions)... what's not to love? I can see why some people might find it overrated, but I really enjoy watching it.

---

057. 'Dallas Buyers Club' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 8.0/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 94%

In at #57 we have one of the films to come as part of the McConnaisance! 'Dallas Buyers Club' is the story of Ron, who does all he can to help AIDS patients get the medication they need to help them fight the disease, after he is diagnosed with that very disease. Both Matthew and Jared put in some career best performances (and they go the awards to match). Definitely worth watching if you want a good drama to watch!

---

056. 'Her' [2014]
IMDB Rating: 8.0/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 95%

A story about a guy falling in love with his phone's software system (similar to Siri), doesn't really sound like it'd be any good, does it? So going into 'Her' I had very little, to no expectations of what to expect, despite the fact the cast was extremely solid. It almost sounds like it'd be a parody film, not an awards contender! But don't be fooled. This movie is seriously good. It's really clever and it is scarily accurate and could very well be what happens in the future! Especially with this generations obsession with technology! Joaquin is absolutely perfect in the role of the lovelorn main character and Scarlett does a stellar job of making you feel for the voice operating system!

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 7 2017, 06:06 PM

055. 'The Social Network' [2010]
IMDB Rating: 7.7/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96%

As we proceed, we get to the first of 3 David Fincher entries. 'The Social Network' is a film about the rise of Facebook and how Mark dealt with being sued by two brothers who claimed Mark stole the idea! Jesse Eisenberg is as annoying as ever, but it was his co-stars who shone. Justin Timberlake was the ultimate highlight, along with Rooney Mara and Andrew Garfield both getting major breakout roles! It's quite an interesting story especially because of what Facebook has become. It's a lot more subtle than the usual David Fincher fare, but it's executed just as well.

---

054. 'She's Out Of My League' [2010]
IMDB Rating: 6.4/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 58%

Next and taking us away from all the serious dramas, we have the light hearted, funny and charming 'She's Out Of My League'. A film which doesn't really bring anything particularly new to the table in terms of Hollywood comedies, but Jay Baruchel manages to bring a lot of endearing charm and awkwardness to a role which otherwise would've been filled by such a pompous, unlikeable git. Definitely worth watching if you just fancy something easy going to watch.

---

053. 'Dinner For Schmucks' [2010]
IMDB Rating: 5.9/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 42%

And continuing with the comedies, but this time going a bit more bonkers and a quite a bit more silly and outrageous than the one before it, we have 'Dinner For Schmucks'. One of my ultimate "guilty pleasures". So stupidly funny, I can't help but like it! Both Paul Rudd and Steve Carrell have insane chemistry together and Steve Carrell excels at playing an idiot! One of the most quotable films ever for me. Sometimes you just want a silly, nonsensical film to watch and this is always up at the top for me.

---

052. 'The Lego Movie' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.8/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96%

At #52 is one of the best, non-Disney, animations of the decade (obviously). 'The Lego Movie' really should have been nominated for an Oscar or two, beyond the original song they got nominated for! Such a feel good movie. Not only that, but the actual animation is stunning! Lots of moments throughout this movie. Will Arnett's Batman being the main drawing point and Chris Pratt really brings Emmett to life!

---

051. 'Insidious' [2010]
IMDB Rating: 6.8/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 66%

At #51 and just missing out on the top 50 is a horror movie! I'm a big horror fan, so can be quite hard some horrors, but 'Insidious' is one I'll always enjoy. Mainly for that Darth Maul-like creature *shudders*. 'Insidious' is one of the creepiest movies of recent times and has a great cast with both Patrick Wilson & Rose Byrne taking the lead roles. So many horror moments, one of the most significant parts for me is 'Tiptoe Through the Tulips' and the creepy boy running around the house as that song is being played! Ew. One draw back for me and the reason why it's not higher, is that the dream sequence is too long and just feels like it goes on forever, before it actually gets anywhere. But apart from that, definitely worth watching!

Posted by: popchartfreak Jan 7 2017, 06:59 PM

some great choices there, Super 8, Iron Man 3, Thor, Dragon, and especially The Martian, Gravity, The Hunger Games, would make my decade list, the latter 3 in my all-time top 100 yahoo.gif

Posted by: Josh. Jan 7 2017, 10:20 PM

Hiya Jonjo

The Social Network is really a fantastic film, the script is so tight and it manages to be so enthralling, I was so infuriated when Andrew Garfield was getting screwed over as if I knew him in person. It really deserved to be his first Oscar nomination (but hopefully he'll get that this year biggrin.gif), I really like him as an actor actually, definitely under-rated imo!

Her would be pretty high up on a decade-to-date list for me too, despite being such a ridiculous concept, I think you'd find it difficult to find many more real and heart-felt films out there. It's massively touching whilst being incredbily thought-provoking at the same time and of course the acting and voice acting is phenomenal, a shame Phoenix upset the Academy so lost out on a nomination sad.gif

I have to admit I was kind of a little bored in parts of Dallas Buyers Club but the acting is some of the best of the decade for sure, McConaughey was definitely awards--worthy (although Bruce Dern would have been my choice for that year, he'd never have won though! sad.gif) but Jared Leto was even better imo, such an interesting character and very memorable too!

Yay at getting this re-started, looking forward to the rest!

Posted by: DalekTurret32 Jan 8 2017, 04:02 PM

Ex Machina (excellent sci-fi film) [10.0]
American Sniper (really good) [9.0]
Mad Max: Fury Road (one of the best long awaited sequels I've seen along with Anchorman 2 and Toy Story 3) [10.0]
The LEGO Movie (really enjoyable animated film, can't wait for The LEGO Batman Movie. Fun Fact: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the directors of the film, also directed the 21 Jump Street films) [10.0]

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 20 2017, 12:31 AM

050. 'We're The Millers' [2013]
IMDB Rating: 7.0/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 47%

Into the top 50 we go and to kick things off is a comedy. A rather damn good, American comedy at that, 'We're The Millers'. American comedies can be extremely hit or miss for me. More often than not, they're a miss, but when they hit, they hit hard. As does this one. It follows David as he enlists some help from a few people to help him smuggle in some drugs over the border from Mexico. It's about them bonding and trying to make it work as a fake family. Jason and Jennifer have great, natural chemistry together and Will Poulter (who plays Kenny) is hilarious! Definitely worth checking out. Avoid the trailer though as it gives too much away, imo.

---

049. 'Ant-Man' [2015]
IMDB Rating: 7.4/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 81%

Up next and taking us into the top 50 is another Marvel movie. Possibly the most daring Marvel movie to date, 'Ant-Man'. As a huge fan of Paul Rudd and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when it was announced that he was to play Scott, I was thinking "Oh no. I cannot see him as a superhero at all!". I really shouldn't and probably won't feel like that with the MCU again. They knew exactly what they were doing and the results ended up being a refreshing take on what could otherwise have been a generic genre!

---

048. 'What We Do In The Shadows' [2014]
IMDB Rating: 7.6/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96%

Now we have another comedy, this time a New Zealand comedy, 'What We Do In The Shadows'. It's a mockumentary which follows a camera crew as they follow the lives of 4 Vampires. Completely unique, random but so refreshingly brilliant. Taika Waititi is one of the most original and fascinating movie makers out there right now. So I am very excited to see what he is going to be doing with the new Thor movie! I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good laugh and a bit of fun!

---

047. 'The Cabin In The Woods' [2012]
IMDB Rating: 7.0/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 92%

Up next is the satirical horror movie, 'The Cabin In The Woods'. A very clever, witty and dry horror spoof, which basically mocks the horror genre, but does it in a really fulfilling and non-stupid way, ala the 'Scary Movie' franchise. It has every horror cliche in there, but manages to have it's own unique twists that manage to take you by surprise. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a horror fan, basically. So unique and done in such a special way.

---

046. 'Imitation Game' [2014]
IMDB Rating: 8.1/10 | Rotten Tomatoes Score: 90%

In at #46 is the movie that I believe is Benedit Cumberbatch's best role yet. 'The Imitation Game' is a real life story on how Alan Turing, with the help of some mathematicians, manages to crack the enigma code which in turn, helps us win WWII! Benedict delivers one of my favourite standalone performances from an actor, this side of the Decade. So much emotion and raw power in this role for him. He had a great supporting cast too, as Keira, especially, puts in an award worthy performance too.

Posted by: HarryEzra Jan 20 2017, 08:59 AM

Still Alice, The Social Network and The Imitation Game are superb dramas heart.gif It annoys me some call The Social Network boring its stunning

Posted by: DalekTurret32 Jan 20 2017, 10:22 PM

We're The Millers [8.5] (first film I saw in an outdoor cinema. Really liked it.)
The Imitation Game [9.5] (Great film with Brilliant Benedict as Alan Turing)

Posted by: Jonjo May 28 2017, 07:20 PM

Just giving this a bump coz I am planning on continuing this, so if I see it on the first page, I'll remember to do it!

45-31 coming in the next couple of days at least! biggrin.gif
