BuzzJack Music Forum _ Personal Charts _ Buzzjack Multichart of 2014

Posted by: JosephStyles 2nd January 2015, 07:47 PM

The 2014 multicharts have been collated and added up and the end of year multichart is HERE. Rob, Jack and I will be taking it in turns to count down this chart for you all.

How it works: each multichart is added up with the #1 getting 75 points, right down to #75 getting 1 point. The 75 tracks with the most points are then counted down here!

Jack will be posting the first section very soon. Any predictions before we start?

75 662 Little Mix - Salute (52-xx-67-39-33-18-13-10-3-3-7-10-17-32-74-xx) [14 wks]

74 664 The Magician feat. Years & Years - Sunlight (51-40-35-29-25-15-9-8-7-11-24-34-42-70-xx) [14 wks]

73 668 David Guetta feat. Sam Martin - Dangerous (31-29-17-12-11-15-8-8-9-13-15-...) [11+ wks]

72 680 Kiesza - No Enemiesz (59-36-26-22-26-24-19-13-13-16-21-24-31-54-xx) [14 wks]

71 680 George Ezra - Blame It On Me (50-22-19-14-11-16-11-7-5-15-36-41-61-xx) [13 wks]

Little Mix kick us off with "Salute", the third single to be taken from the album of the same name. Their sole entry in this countdown, poor "Word Up!". It was initially an album highlight for me but I grew quite tired of it - maybe others did, to try and explain the drops it had when leaving the top 10? Trifoski BJSC smash "Sunlight" follows, a song by solo act The Magician and featuring newcomers Years & Years, not a cover of the Diana Vickers song of the same name. The #7 multichart peak is a snap of the peak it achieved in the UK. DJ David Guetta is next, still currently charting with "Dangerous" which spent two weeks at #8. UK #1 "Lovers On The Sun" does not feature. Canadian Kiesza is at #72 with "No Enemiesz", a flop by the standards that she set herself as her previous two singles were both multichart #1s! Shame as it's the best single of the three in my opinion. Finishing on the same number of points but achieving a more impressive peak is "Blame It On Me", the bearable single from George Ezra. 5-15-36 looks a bit ouch though, a run that Cheryl would be proud of x

Salute is quite good but they've released better. Thinking about it actually Move was the only one from the current era that I properly liked.

Sunlight and Dangerous are both brilliant heart.gif hope to see more dance representation in here.

No Enemiesz was quite the let down from her previous 2 singles sad.gif

Blame It On Me is very good for a MOR song, glad he's having success right now to show the Sam Smiths of the world how to not bore people to sleep (haven't actually listened to the album though)

Posted by: ¡bré! 5th January 2015, 09:26 PM

'Sunlight' peaking at #7 here as well as in the UK, very appropriate *. If only it had come 7th in BJSC as well ~

Salute never particularly tired on me but IIRC it did start to drop quite quickly on my chart after a couple of months so I may have contributed to that quick drop anyway oop.

70 681 Shakira feat. Rihanna - Can't Remember To Forget You (3-3-3-3-5-5-8-20-26-34-45-xx) [11 wks]
69 685 Neon Jungle - Braveheart (49-58-31-11-9-5-4-6-9-18-22-35-52-63-74-66-68-xx) [17 wks]
68 686 George Ezra - Budapest (32-15-7-7-10-7-8-15-22-27-31-45-xx) [11 wks]
67 690 Nicole Scherzinger - Your Love (42-25-13-11-15-23-15-13-19-25-41-38-40-64-xx-70-72-xx) [16 wks]
66 691 Ella Eyre - Comeback (72-61-35-27-27-16-17-9-7-4-8-22-31-37-xx) [14 wks]

Kicking off the 66-70 section, we see a duet of two of the noughties biggest females and given Buzzjack's adoration of female popstars, this was a certified Multichart smash, yes? Well, sort of, but not quite. After an average placing in the official charts, Shakira made a monster debut at #3 in the Multichart. But despite that, it never quite made it any higher as the behemoth pairing of Clean Bandit and Katy B kept them at bay. The song disappeared in 11 weeks.

Although it's one of my favourite songs of the year, Neon Jungle have to settle for the coveted #69 spot in the Multichart of 2014. Sticking around for an impressive 17 weeks, Neon Jungle proved they weren't quite just another Parade. They peaked at #4, kept behind the aforementioned trio of Clean Bandit, Katy B and Shakira and despite its long run, 7 of these weeks being outside of the top 40 mean that 'Braveheart' merely scrapes inside the end of year top 75.

Being the foursome of Neon Jungle by a single point, it's new kid on the block George Ezra. In comparison to Neon Jungle, a peak of #7 and 11 weeks on the chart seems pretty shoddy but unlike the girls, every single one of his weeks on the Multichart bar one was inside the top 40. Although, part of the reasoning for that is because the song died a very sudden death, with a hefty drop from #45, to missing the next weeks' chart. Oops.

At #67, we have a song that missed the top 10, quite surprising for an artist as popular as Nicole Scherzinger, but she's still managed to do do do do do do do do do do do do do well enough to crack the top 75, due to sticking around for 16 weeks, including a 2 week re-entry. But with a less than shamazing peak of #11, even this is rather impressive.

Finally, the #66 position is occupied by Ella Eyre, who enjoyed much more success in the Buzzjack Mutichart than she did in the UK charts. 'Comeback' spent four weeks in the top 10, peaking at a rather impressive #4. However, five weeks later, it was nowhere to be seen. Quite a boomerang run it enjoyed, that it would probably be more fitting for Scherzy baby... and unlike Ella, Nicole actually DID "comeback" into the charts. Gah, such scraping of the pun barrel.

65 692 Oliver Heldens & Becky Hill - Gecko (Overdrive) (67-46-27-26-19-8-5-8-14-22-27-36-40-37-66-xx) [15 wks]
64 696 Charli XCX - Break the Rules (33-17-18-18-19-16-13-17-25-32-30-36-44-58-xx-68-xx) [15 wks]
63 704 Zhu - Faded (70-60-47-42-42-44-54-61-34-24-13-10-16-15-23-34-39-48-64-xx) [19 wks]
62 706 John Legend - All of Me (41-25-18-16-13-14-19-18-22-23-29-38-52-64-48-xx-70-xx) [16 wks]
61 706 Cher Lloyd - Sirens (61-52-60-64-xx-64-45-40-38-40-31-35-19-16-11-19-31-34-43-50-61-xx) [20 wks]

Gecko by Oliver Heldens was a BJSC entry once upon a time, but it ended up getting a vocal remix with Becky Hill lending her wonderful voice to the track and subsequently improving it. Gecko (Overdrive) became a UK #1 hit, and got to a respectable #5 here. The video is worth mentioning too lol, purely for how utterly odd it is. The video for single #2 Last All Night (Koala) isn't exactly "normal" but it's not quite as weird as this thankfully laugh.gif

mr_aly favourite Break the Rules by Charli XCX never made it into the multichart top 10 but thanks to some good top 20 longevity, it quite comfortably made the top 75 of the year. The track was a bit of a failure in the UK charts, flopping into the low end of the top 40 and flopping back out. I'd have liked to see it do better but ultimately it tired on me quite quickly. sad.gif

Zhu is some anonymous DJ, with his Facebook page saying "Music is Faceless. Let my music tell my story". Right. I wouldn't let a song like Faded tell his story, cause I'm sat here thinking he's very dull thanks to that track. happy.gif

CHART SAVIOUR John Legend is at #62, just missing out on #61 due to having a lower peak. The monster hit seems despised by many on Buzzjack now but once upon a time, it was quite liked by the peoples of the forum as it's almost done enough for the top 60. All of Me sadly wasn't quite the saviour of the multichart in the same way it has been in the UK sadly but it did very well, a #13 peak for a track that actually came last in the Reshuffle of the Year isn't bad laugh.gif

Finally, Cher Lloyd's Sirens was extremely unlucky. It made #41 in the UK and #11 here, where is the justice??? cry.gif It's not a bad track although I can't help but feel it's a bit overrated. Anyway, it was no doubt helped here by its really drawn out release, charting initially when released in the US and returning and peaking during its UK release.

60 707 One Direction - Steal My Girl (54-30-22-18-10-9-12-10-16-15-19-29-37-...) [13+ wks]

59 709 Ellie Goulding - Goodness Gracious (55-13-10-12-12-9-7-9-7-14-24-46-61-xx) [13 wks]

58 709 Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud (58-75-xx-66-29-19-8-3-2-7-10-18-18-20-22-...) [14+ wks]

57 712 Pitbull feat. Ke$ha - Timber (35-44-36-45-38-44-27-26-20-14-14-3-2-2-4-4-6-16-22-28-39-31-53-66-xx) [24 wks]

56 736 Pharrell Williams - Happy (71-21-12-5-5-6-8-8-16-18-21-23-23-24-49-52-70-xx) [17 wks]

Top 60 and we have the first single from "FOUR", the fourth album from One Direction (if you didn't guess that from the title). "Steal My Girl" was the first glance of a slightly more mature style from the group and it appeared to go down well, getting a #9 peak. As with our song at #58, One Direction were still charting at the end of the year and suffer from perhaps not being able to 'complete' their run.

THE DRAMA as Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran find themselves in a tie. ohmy.gif And can you believe it, Ed actually wins out due to having the higher peak. Do I find myself on the wrong site? Both songs were third singles to be taken from parent albums ("Halcyon Days" and "x"). "Goodness Gracious" is fabulous though I'd guess not a particular Ellie highlight for many. It had a nice 9-7-9-7 top 10 run but was soon out after that, seems to be a thing for post-album singles if we look back on "Salute" and "Blame It On Me". Though monster hit "Thinking Out Loud" tries to dispute that, I never realised that this managed to be a top 2 hit after all the hate Ed seems to get on here (and that ladies and gentlemen is why I no longer mod this forum).

Then we come to two of the first big hits of the year, the amazing "Timber" and the awful "Happy". "Timber" is at a disadvantage as the chart run is split roughly in half between years, with the 2014 run included in the points starting at the week it climbs to #3. The impressive overall run is helped by how long it took for the UK release to come about after the premiere.

And the biggest song of 2014 in the UK is only #56 here. Who knew this managed to spend two weeks top 5 once upon a time, doesn't everyone rightly hate this now?

55 747 Röyksopp & Robyn - Do It Again (31-16-18-29-33-15-18-25-24-21-32-24-33-52-63-48-63-xx) [17 wks]

hi.gif guys

'Do It Again' lands at #55, a song which saw the Scandinavian trio of Röyksopp and Robyn joining forces once again. Their previous collaboration 'The Girl & The Robot' reached a multichart summit of #17, though 'Do It Again' managed to peak two places higher.

Sandra Neilsen's 'Undo', Sweden's Eurovision 2014 entry is #52. A song I don't think much of really, and only serves to make me wonder why the much superior 'Calm After The Storm' isn't present here.

A total of THREE UK #1 hits in this section; the first being Route 94 & Jess Glynne's 'My Love' #54, months after finishing in the top 30 in BJSC, it proved to be one of the most successful dance tracks of 2014, and reached a peak of #6 on the multichart. MAGIC! are at #53 with their mildly catchy, but mostly irritating smash hit 'Rude'. The final of the three is the bright and highly likeable (at least to me) 'Am I Wrong' by Nico & Vinz, a song that picked up steam in Europe and then eventually in the USA, leading to it becoming a two-week chart topper in the UK, and a Multichart #6 to boot!

50 766 Cheryl - I Don't Care (43-18-10-4-3-1-1-4-9-13-21-32-63-...) [13+ wks]
49 773 Beyoncé - XO (23-22-22-17-8-6-7-8-11-10-8-16-21-36-56-64-xx) [16 wks]
48 775 Lorde - Team (66-xx-50-34-19-10-7-6-6-9-9-14-21-39-44-53-54-xx) [16 wks]
47 779 Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne - Real Love (40-21-22-9-6-4-2-2-3-6-9-9-...) [12+ wks]
46 785 Katy Perry - Birthday (46-28-20-14-13-9-5-7-10-11-16-23-33-44-xx) [14 wks]

QUEEN CHERYL kicks things off at #50 with her UK and multichart #1 smash hit I Don't Care. The track is one of my personal favourites by Cheryl so seeing it become a #1 was great. It didn't have the best longevity in either the multi or the chart but a #1 is a #1 happy.gif Cheryl still has one more track to appear.

Beyoncé had two songs impacting at the same time with XO and Drunk In Love smashing the multichart top 10 when her self-titled fifth album got released out of nowhere. Ultimately, Drunk In Love ended up being the bigger hit of the two in both the official chart and the multi, and is still to appear. XO got a BRITs performance last February but the track never quite took off really. It did, however, do better than Partition, Pretty Hurts and the terrible Flawless Remix I guess. And that other thing she did recently which I daren't name.

Lorde had a UK #1 hit with Royals back in 2013, and followed it up with a much smaller hit in the form of Team. It's actually the superior track by quite a way IMO and it's good to see that Buzzjack liked it, sending it up to #6 in the multichart!

Clean Bandit had a great 2014 with their first EVER UK #1 Rather Be jameela.jpg The track is also still to come here, and was a huge #1 so don't expect it any time soon. Follow-up Extraordinary stood the test of time better actually IMO (I realise this isn't a popular opinion). This song, however, is just very nothingy to me. sad.gif It's spent annoyingly long in the multichart and is finally dropping now although that part of its chart run is excluded cause it's only showing to the end of 2014. BORE OFF.

Finally, Katy Perry's fourth Prism single, Birthday, is at #46. The track was a moderate multi hit although not as big as previous hit Dark Horse which went to #1. I personally love the track and think it's a fun track with an excellent vibe. The track got no higher than #22 in the official chart but it had reasonable longevity and is the third best selling single of the era if I'm not mistaken.

41 827 Christina Perri - Human (39-36-35-44-52-38-35-35-26-44-34-50-55-38-25-12-10-9-10-16-26-36-52-66-xx) [24 wks]

What an extraordinary section where Clean Bandit happen to have the worst song. magic.gif

We start with Calvin Harris and his UK #1 collab with the legend that is John Newman. His best hit of last year imo, the Buzzjack run was pretty impressive in top 10 terms but two weeks after it was #8 it was 30 places lower.

Then we come to "Children Of The Universe", the UK entry to the Eurovision Song Contest last year. A great entry that had a consistent run from the time it was revealed until the contest itself. Molly peaked in the top 2 at the height of Eurovision fever but the post-top 5 weeks weren't so pretty. Poor flop, if only her result in Copenhagen had been better.

#43 we have Nelly fave Foxes with "Let Go For Tonight", a very decent pop song though not quite amazing. Has that OA/OS / slow burner kinda run, spent two weeks top 5, four weeks top 10, had a more graceful descent.

Slightly ahead is the follow-up to "Rather Be". "Extraordinary" had a pretty consistent run spending roughly half of it's weeks on chart in the top 20 but outside the top 10. The rise to #9 followed by two weeks outside of the top 10 followed by a re-peak at #6 and then out of the top 10 again looks a bit odd.

Easily the longest runner among this group is the amazing "Human" by Christina Perri, spending almost half of 2014 on the multichart. Helped by there being a long time between the premiere of the song and the UK release, it spent that time fluctuating a bit, eventually peaking at #9 and only spending six more weeks on chart after. The week at #26 seems to stick out.

40 832 Sam Smith - Stay With Me (70-45-42-41-37-23-12-5-6-9-9-13-20-25-37-39-56-70-73-74-63-71-xx) [22 wks]

39 833 Kiesza - Giant In My Heart (46-43-24-11-12-10-4-3-1-8-14-25-32-27-49-74-xx) [16 wks]

38 851 A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera - Say Something (69-67-70-48-34-39-30-30-24-27-17-21-21-21-12-7-6-7-11-23-37-41-60-xx) [23 wks]

37 862 Sam Smith - I'm Not the Only One (46-24-17-10-13-14-13-14-14-16-24-33-27-27-43-41-55-75-xx) [18 wks]

36 864 Coldplay - Magic (55-15-12-12-12-14-12-12-9-15-27-33-29-26-29-50-66-xx) [17 wks]

After some great vocal features on 'Latch' and 'La La La', I was slightly excited for what Sam Smith would bring in terms of a solo career. And this is why you should be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it~ Kicking off our top 40 is former Multichart #5, "Stay With Me". It didn't overstay its welcome in the weekly Multichart, but as nearly all safe/pedestrian ballads do, MASSIVELY overstayed its welcome in the UK charts. Follow-up single "I'm Not The Only One" was slightly better, though that song and Stay With Me really tend to just blend into each other nowadays. It peaked at #10 on the Multi, and spent six weeks between #13-16 afterwards.

Kiesza managed two Multichart #1s this year; first with "Hideaway", and then again with follow-up "Giant In My Heart"! Though of course it didn't quite have the longevity of its predecessor, 16 weeks overall still ain't half bad.

A Great Big World's "Say Something" burst into prominence through its usage on 'So You Think You Can Dance?', and caught the attention of one Christina Aguilera, and the track was re-recorded with a guest vocal from her. Say Something went on to be a worldwide hit, also peaking at #4 in the UK, and most importantly #6 in the Multichart (and curiously seemed to drop off rather quickly following said peak).

Coldplay's proper comeback single "Magic" is a sombre moment, but still engaging enough to be a fine listen <3 The song immediately charted in the UK top 10, though took a tad longer on the Multichart- spending seven weeks bounding around the Top 15 (FIVE of those weeks at #12!) before finally reaching a #9 peak.

35 868 Ed Sheeran - Don't (59-62-26-30-42-34-33-33-10-7-9-11-24-26-32-35-50-46-40-43-xx) [20 wks]
34 869 Mr Probz - Waves (56-37-25-9-5-5-6-6-10-13-13-21-22-32-42-53-68-xx) [17 wks]
33 873 Calvin Harris - Summer (30-19-23-22-15-10-6-6-9-16-21-21-27-35-39-48-72-xx) [17 wks]
32 875 The Saturdays - Not Giving Up (55-52-56-67-xx-58-27-11-11-6-9-6-6-4-4-5-12-17-43-46-xx) [19 wks]
31 886 Coldplay - A Sky Full Of Stars (36-10-8-11-6-9-10-10-9-14-19-23-26-41-63-56-57-74-xx) [18 wks]

Ed Sheeran dominated 2014 as we all know, and the second single from second album x, Don't, reached "only" #8 in the UK chart. It has, however, been omnipresent in the UK top 40 ever since its release. In the multichart, it proved to be a bit of a slow burner but eventually edged its way up to #7. Ed still has another song to come, in the form of his first EVER UK #1, Sing jameela.jpg

Mr Probz reached the top of the UK charts with his track Waves, mostly down to the Robin Schulz remix of the track although Schulz is not credited officially. It did less well here but still had an impressive 6 weeks in the top 10 for such a boring track ph34r.gif It's followed by another UK #1, which is even worse. Calvin Harris decided to torture us with lend us his vocals for Summer, the second single from album Motion. It proved to be a huge hit in the chart but would've actually been denied #1 if streaming were implemented earlier by Waves itself!

With the best track of the section, The Saturdays are at #32 with Not Giving Up. The track got its release many months after UK #5 hit Disco Love impacted, and the hype had pretty much vanished. It also took its radio support with it. That didn't stop it being a big multichart hit of course due to their huge following on the forum, having originally charted as an album track before re-entering following its single announcement and eventually peaking at #4. Before a quick dive down, eek. What Are You Waiting For? fared better and is still to come.

Coldplay make their final appearance of the section now with A Sky Full of Snores, produced by Avicii. Quite funny really, cause Avicii got the same treatment as the vocalists on his own tracks. The song took a while to go top 10 in the UK but ended up getting there in the multi after just 2 weeks, and had a long and enduring chart run, not dropping too quickly at any point.

Avicii is just a fan of last.fm and knows features can easily screw up things for people if they don't sort their shit out. He's just making it easier on us.

What a great bunch with only Cheryl letting the side down! ohmy.gif

First up are The Veronicas with "You Ruin Me", one of the biggest surprise top 10 hits of 2014. And a multichart #1 too!! An absolutely stunning song, wish it could've hung around in the UK but beggars can't be choosers.

A point ahead are The Vamps with what many see as their best song. I wonder why, does it feature a popular female popstar by any chance. thinking.gif Regardless, it's great to see my faves getting some appreciation, it's not everyday a boyband are top 5 on the multichart.

Another Joseph fave in the form of Cheryl Cole, must admit that "Crazy Stupid Love" did rather well for a song that many seemingly dislike but it's not like haters get a say in this success. The sax remains an abomination, that is all.

A point ahead of her is Beyoncé with one of the most quotable songs OF ALL TIME. "Drunk In Love" had a bit of a yo-yo run and a #8 peak seems a bit low but with the way it was handled and "XO" also being around it's not a massive surprise, it stuck around really well.

From a Kanye reference to a Kanye sample in "Nobody To Love", one of the very very best dance hits of last year. heart.gif Had a great run with a graceful descent but in Buzzjack terms Sigma went on to something even bigger later in the year, stay tuned..

21 996 Kylie Minogue - Into The Blue (51-11-7-4-3-4-4-2-1-1-4-11-17-31-35-46-64-xx) [17 wks]

On the brink of the top 20 now. We kick off with The Saturdays most recent and arguably most floptastic single to date- "What Are You Waiting For?" was very much a bargain bin I Love It/Trouble and due to The Saturdays' name being attached to it the song spent 8 weeks in the Top 10 here before an incredibly random 15-place tumble to #19!

Duke Dumont's second smash hit came in the form of "I Got U" alongside Jax Jones, a steel drum-laden sizzler that found its way to #1 in both the Official and Multi charts, and many a summer playlist for sure.

Nicki Minaj landed the infamous single "Anaconda" in the summer- a song so shameless, over-the-top and utterly ridiculous, but i'd argue it's all the more enjoyable for those reasons! It had a surprisingly low-ish peak of #6 but managed a nice run in the top 20 soon after.

Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" brought a touch of poppy doo-wop to the charts, marred with some questionable lyrics (particularly regarding 'skinny bitches'- though I guess Anaconda's "f*** them skinny bitches in the club!" gets a free pass). The song topped the official chart, but couldn't quite get past the #2 spot here.

Kylie's comeback single "Into The Blue" didn't set the charts alight in reality, but as one would expect Buzzjack took to it well- as it racked up 2 weeks upon the Multichart summit, following a lengthy-ish top 10 run, though followed by a fairly quick-ish drop off.

20 1005 Charli XCX - Boom Clap (56-29-17-12-6-8-2-1-1-2-6-13-16-27-30-30-43-71-xx-69-xx) [19 wks]
19 1048 Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj - Bang Bang (23-16-17-10-8-7-9-9-3-8-11-9-7-18-40-35-39-51-xx) [18 wks]
18 1056 Ella Henderson - Glow (75-24-16-7-6-5-8-10-3-1-1-1-2-5-18-36-54-58-58-xx) [18 wks]
17 1076 Rita Ora - I Will Never Let You Down (46-7-5-4-2-2-1-1-2-4-8-7-12-18-34-60-43-45-57-xx) [19 wks]
16 1084 Lilly Wood and The Prick - Prayer In C (65-44-38-25-22-19-21-9-5-4-5-4-5-7-12-15-20-30-38-48-xx) [20 wks]

Breaking the 1000 points barrier now with Charli XCX and her breakthrough hit Boom Clap. Charli was previously known for writing Icona Pop's I Love It and singing the chorus to Iggy Azalea's Fancy jameela.jpg but Boom Clap was the first hit she had in her own right. It went to #6 in the UK but managed to top the multi, for 2 weeks! As with many multi #1s, it had a pretty quick drop-off but not quite as quick as some others we've seen already.

Jessie J seems to be a figure of MASS HATRED on Buzzjack but Bang Bang seems to have fared very well all things considered in the multichart, managing a peak of #3 and several weeks top 10! Not quite as huge as you'd expect a collab between three female pop heavyweights to be on Buzzjack but could've been worse.

Ella Henderson's debut single Ghost was a HUGE multichart smash and is still to come, but for now we have its follow-up, Glow. Glow performed considerably worse officially than Ghost but Glow doesn't do TOO much worse, still getting to #1 (for 3 weeks too!) and spending 18 weeks in the chart in total, quite impressive. For me, it's possibly her weakest single but I really like all four so that's not saying too much.

Rita Ora had a bit of a tough 2014 what with her break-up with Calvin Harris meaning that she lost her entire album, as it was produced by him. Ouch. She got a #1 single still though, both in the UK and on the multichart, with the euphoric I Will Never Let You Down. I'd have loved to hear some more of this direction for Rita but sadly it wasn't meant to be. She still hasn't followed it up, oops. Calvin has no songs still to come so Rita at least has Buzzjack x

Finally, chilled dance hit Prayer In C was another UK #1, not quite getting there in the multi but had 5 weeks in the top 5 and a relatively steady decline down the chart compared to some tracks in the multi. The Prick got his well-deserved credit here with Robin Schulz relegated. Bye.

Posted by: Iz~ 14th March 2015, 01:41 AM

Glow, really? I don't know anymore. File alongside the Sats' entries.

So cool to see Prayer In C and Boom Clap up this high though, both definitely among the best of the year's hits.

In typical Buzzjack form, we haven't had a song with a male vocalist since Sigma's 'Nobody To Love' at #26. I can reveal that Ed Sheeran is the highest male lead vocalist in the chart, here at #15 with 'Sing'. This was the first single from his second album x which saw Ed successfully go uptempo. It was held back from release for a ridiculously long time in the UK but I think that helped its slow climb up the Multichart!

Next at #14 is Sigma's second official #1 and first Multichart #1 with 'Changing'. Vice-versa for Paloma Faith, it's her first official #1 and second Multichart #1. This was her only song of late to get Radio 1 support, if I remember correctly, and thank goodness for that because her voice works wonders on this track.

What is it with these gingers!? Three in a row now with Katy B's 'Crying For No Reason' at #13. She made a lot of new fans on Buzzjack with her second album Little Red, but it didn't look so good for her chart-wise until this, the third single, had good support and made the top 5 officially. This was topped off by Katy's album debuting at #1 the following week!

After Katy B is another Katy: Katy Perry, featuring Juicy J with 'Dark Horse'. This was recorded during a brief trap phase for Ms. Perry. The song sold rather well as just an album track so it unsurprisingly did huge things as the third single from Prism. The surprise was that it was Katy's second and final top 10 from the album, quite a disappointment following Teenage Dream. Juicy J's real name is very nearly the same as mine, if that's not a fun fact then I don't know what is.

Oh this is awkward. Just as 'Dark Horse' was on its way out of the chart, Iggy Azalea released a VERY similar-sounding song, called 'Black Widow' and featuring Rita Ora. It clearly worked well for Iggy as she lands just one place above 'Dark Horse' on our chart, and its official peak was higher by one place as well. That #3 peak culminated the pattern of each Iggy single charting higher than the one before it. It was also Iggy's first Multichart #1! Should've been 'Fancy' but what can ya do.

Top 10 here we finally are ohmy.gif Taylor Swift launched "Shake It Off" as the lead single from 1989 in August, debuting at #29 in the Multi before shooting up to #2 one week later. Though it took another 3 weeks to finally grab the #1 spot off the pesky Blegh Widow. Shake It Off ultimately managed 3 weeks at #1. Non-consecutively though- Taylor kept shakin' it off so much, she accidentally shook off her weave, sending it flying into the hands of Sigma & Paloma Faith momentarily!

Somehow, Kiesza and her voice which is surely so high-pitched that only dogs can hear it managed five weeks at #1 here, in addition to one week at #1 in the official chart. This was quite the surprise smash for Paloma on the official charts, following the lackluster performance of lead single 'Can't Rely On You'. But that didn't stop 'Only Love Can Hurt Like This' from leaping up the top 40 to quickly become her highest-peaking single in the UK. That kind of run was replicated on the Multichart, becoming Paloma's first #1 there in just its fifth week. G.R.L. started out as the new line-up of popular girl group The Pussycat Dolls before they underwent a name change, and seemed to be lingering around before they eventually broke through with the smash hit Ugly Heart. Before this, they featured on Pitbull's UK top 10 hit Wild Wild Love, but Ugly Heart was their first smash as lead artists. It cruelly missed out on the top 10 by one place in the UK due to DAMN STREAMING!!!!!1! and missed out on the multichart top spot also by one spot. The track charted in the UK just one day after the sad news that Simone Battle had committed suicide. R.I.P. #1 officially for 4 weeks and on the Multichart for 5 weeks, 'Rather Be' was perhaps the perfect pop song of 2014, and one of the most universally loved on Buzzjack, hence its place here in the top five! Since then Clean Bandit have released some equally magnificent songs, and some not-so-good 'Rather Be' soundalikes. At #3 we have the highest non-#1 of the countdown, coming from Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX. Fancy was the fourth single from Iggy's debut album The New Classic and her first top 5 hit in the UK. In the multichart, it made #3 for four non-consecutive weeks but had a huge amount of longevity, just like it did in the UK chart. Fancy also gave Iggy her breakthrough smash in the US, reaching #1 on the Hot 100. It's my personal #1 of 2014 so I'm delighted to see it this high up, hasn't gotten old for me at all heart.gif

2 1587 Ella Henderson - Ghost (21-10-8-7-3-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-4-5-13-18-22-25-28-40-46-51-61-63-59-53-51-46-68-58-xx) [31 wks]

All bets were on Ella to have huge success with this debut single, and she did not disappoint with ‘Ghost’ becoming a 2-week #1 in the UK and a 7-week #1 on the Multichart! But then ‘Glow’ was slightly less of a hit, then ‘Yours’ was less of a hit than ‘Glow’, and ‘Mirror Man’ was even less of a hit. She has NOT been dropped by her label, contrary to popular belief, but seeing as she hasn’t reached #1 on this countdown, it’s safe to say Ella Henderson’s days are numbered. And that, my friends, is why she keeps going to the river to pray magic.gif

Seven is up next to reveal our #1! ohmy.gif

1 1879 Sia - Chandelier (63-18-13-12-10-14-10-12-14-14-9-11-7-5-3-3-3-2-1-1-2-2-11-13-20-21-31-38-37-52-49-60-68-xx) [33 wks]

After gaining some mainstream attention through Titanium/Wild Ones, it was a matter of waiting to see if she could eventually score another big hit of her very own. Then 'Chandelier' arrived, hitting #6 in the UK and spending over 40 weeks in the Top 40 ohmy.gif Its run on the Multichart wasn't much shorter, and it even hit the #1 spot for two weeks. And as you can now see, it has claimed the Multichart's YEAR-END #1, by a fair distance over Ella Henderson. 'Chandelier' is perhaps one of the most powerful pop tracks in recent memory, in my opinion a well deserved choice for #1 here. Congrats Sia! biggrin.gif

Thanks to Seven and Jordan for helping me finish this off (finally!!!), and to Rob and Jack for their earlier sections too heehee.gif Not a surprising winner, very deserved too!

yay Chandelier! stunning pop song, although it has spent way too long in the UK top 40.

Ghost is great too, I never made the connection that the song is actually about her relationship with her record label though ohmy.gif
