Nice

Posted by: ___∆___ 26th June 2018, 04:00 AM

Was just coming to post this - the show was AMAZING, she actually sung ‘New York City’ in full twice, first time partway through the show then again at the end. She also sung Breathe, stripped down versions of Hand On Your Heart and Slow.

Such an incredible venue and 500 capacity too! I have uploaded a few videos and pictures of her stopping after the show on my IG - will try and upload here tomorrow.

Posted by: ___∆___ 26th June 2018, 04:02 AM

She also done a duet of ‘Islands In the Stream’ - so after doing ‘9 To 5’ at Pride yesterday I’d expect more Dolly on the arena tour.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 26th June 2018, 12:19 PM

I'd love to see Kylie in a venue of that capacity,I think it would be great for a change over the big venues.

Posted by: liamk97 26th June 2018, 01:00 PM

The verses remind me of the "Chaka Khan, let me rock you" rap in 'I Feel For You'.

I really like it! Not a missed opportunity from the album or anything, but a fun song anyway. Get it officially recorded and use it as a B-side for physical single please!

It was incredible - the venue is tiny and similar to a nightclub so wherever you stand in the venue you can see everything.

The energy in the room was amazing as it was ‘real’ fans who really appreciated the show and fought hard to get a ticket (Ticket touts were selling them for around $400-600 for standard entry which were originally $100).

Still buzzing today and a setting I doubt I’ll get the chance to see Kylie perform in again.

I’ve got a 30 second clip of the 2nd performance of it where he whole room was singing the song, definitely needs to make an appearance officially in some form.

Posted by: pippa 26th June 2018, 03:48 PM

For American fans, getting tickets to such a show is a real treat.
Kylie always delivers when performing and i am sure everyone who got tickets were real fans at the event.

Posted by: Regina 26th June 2018, 07:07 PM

it's alright, but it sounds too much like watered down pop Kylie.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 26th June 2018, 08:07 PM

The first verse reminded me a bit of the rap in Blondie's 'Rapture'.

Sounds like a nice disco-esque track. I wouldn't mind a recorded version.

Posted by: pippa 26th June 2018, 08:26 PM

If its a new song i am sure it will be appearing somewhere soon in a recorded version.
Possibly a new edition of the album?

Posted by: Regina 26th June 2018, 08:29 PM

She said it wasn't new, that is was from the Golden sessions and that it didn't fit the album.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 26th June 2018, 10:19 PM

A fun performance! I'd definitely like a studio version, it'd be perfect for a B Side.

Posted by: liamk97 27th June 2018, 11:29 AM

Knew I had heard this before...

Posted by: Medellíam 30th April 2019, 02:30 PM

Seems like we're getting a studio version this Friday, likely the lead single to the greatest hits album.

Produced by DJ Fresh - I recall seeing his name mentioned back in 2017 during the creative process of what would become Golden. The live version we've heard doesn't sound very DJ Fresh though so maybe it's been reworked slightly?

Posted by: ___∆___ 30th April 2019, 06:16 PM

I am BEYOND EXCITED we are getting a studio version of NYC - I was at the Build TV studios when she sung a line of it and at her New York show where she performed it twice so I can’t wait to hear a studio version as it hold such great memories.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 30th April 2019, 06:18 PM

The news has been brought forward by a day to avoid G Norton spoilers. i really hope they do not release NYC until midnight Thursday so it gets maximum sales in chart week

Posted by: Medellíam 30th April 2019, 06:26 PM

Just discovered the live version was released on Kylie's official YouTube channel but it's unlisted so you can only view it if you've got a link. Presumably it's the same one that was made available with one of the cassettes last year.

Posted by: slowdown73 30th April 2019, 07:01 PM

I liked the track when I heard it on the tour so will be nice to actually hear a proper version.

Never seen this before (And I have the tape but it’s still sealed). I have video clips I took on the night but great to see the full version - really can’t wait to see what they have done with the studio version wub.gif

Posted by: SmileyKylie 1st May 2019, 09:18 PM

New version been described as what happened to CGYOMY fro unknown tour to Album version.

Nice! Also been described as a mixture of WOW and Put Your Hands Up style

Posted by: Medellíam 2nd May 2019, 08:36 PM

Short snippet from iTunes is out there. Got some added production to it yet it somehow it's making less of an impression on me that the live version. Feels like it's a couple of notches slower than it needs to be. Maybe I just need the full thing.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 2nd May 2019, 09:11 PM

I'm getting slight Mylo - Drop The Pressure vibes from it!

I will wait for the full thing and see how I feel.

Yes! I know exactly what you mean!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 2nd May 2019, 09:53 PM

I wonder will she do any promo for it, if it can get top 100 I'd be happy.
.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 2nd May 2019, 10:54 PM

I see no reason why she can't score top 100 with a new single.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 3rd May 2019, 05:28 AM

She needs to get it added to new music Friday when it's available at 8.30 and get at least some streams. At least she has Radio two and G Norton today though will we even hear any of it on G Norton as she ain't singing and there is no video ..... Let's see it's already been recorded so someone will know lol

Posted by: gavindeejay 3rd May 2019, 06:23 AM

That's not bad promo today then! Hope the song is good!

Posted by: aeroco 3rd May 2019, 07:25 AM

The nicest thing I can say about this is that I hope it will grow on me!

I first thought IBIY was very basic but I soon loved it.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 3rd May 2019, 07:29 AM

I think it's really good!!!!! Two plays on radio 2 nice

Has Myloesque vibes

Nice!!!!! 8th place on New Music Friday UK Spotify playlist

Posted by: tommie 3rd May 2019, 08:00 AM

It's serviceable I guess.

I do cringe at the line "New York City / Everybody looks so PRETTAY", though I guess it's better than "I like New York / Other places make me feel like a dork". But the chorus overall could've been stronger.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 3rd May 2019, 08:04 AM

Has a video too. Basically from Golden Tour but that's fine. Better than nothing and got promo on Lorraine this morning

Posted by: Mullo 3rd May 2019, 08:19 AM

Very poor in my opinion. I don't ever need to here that again. CRINGEWORTHY

Posted by: SmileyKylie 3rd May 2019, 08:25 AM

Tom Walker singing Kylie Minogue Love At First Sight. Excellent

New York city enters itunes at 17 in UK. Should go top 10 on Itunes at this rate maybe higher.

8th on Spotify UK new music so should at least get one day of good streaming.

Can we get it a top 100 chart placing this week

Posted by: Medellíam 3rd May 2019, 08:37 AM

Posted by: 365 3rd May 2019, 08:49 AM

I think this is really fun!

Posted by: Medellíam 3rd May 2019, 08:59 AM

It's taking me a bit of getting used to having been so used to the live version - wasn't sure on that vocal effect on the verse - but I'm coming round. It is a bit of a bop and ties the SAW and Parlophone sound together really well. Kylie will have a lot of fun performing this during her summer shows and I can see it going down really well.

Posted by: gavindeejay 3rd May 2019, 09:15 AM

Really liking this! Great tune

Posted by: davidas 3rd May 2019, 09:15 AM

Actually really liking this more than I thought I would!

Posted by: Jay ☆ 3rd May 2019, 09:49 AM

Liking this! A throwback sound for Kylie, it’s giving me Fever era with some 80s influence - very fitting for the Definitive Collection.

Posted by: Dannyboy 3rd May 2019, 09:50 AM

The way people are acting you would think she released “celebration” 😂😂😂 people need to chill out and take perspective. Is it a Kylie classic ? Hell no, is it gonna sell the album ? No, Kylie alone and her music history does that on its own. Personally I like it, but of a lazy video idea though. I still want a blue ray / dvd collection though Miss Minogue 😂

Posted by: edneyguerra 3rd May 2019, 10:30 AM

Hi guys. Is there a link por the bbc radio 2 show?

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 3rd May 2019, 10:59 AM

It seems Mylo actually has a writing credit on this, so is it an actual sample of 'Drop The Pressure'? That would make sense.

Posted by: aeroco 3rd May 2019, 11:03 AM

Sounds much better through quality speakers.

Yeah I noticed that too. I did start looking at the credits the other day but when I saw DJ Fresh was credited I didn't think there would be another notable producer. I think it could be a sample and DJ Fresh has just done all the other production, perhaps.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 3rd May 2019, 12:32 PM

12 on iTunes now.

I don't think they are going to show or play anything of it on G Norton tonight? Which is a pity .... Even a little video snippet etc would get top 10 on itunes

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 3rd May 2019, 03:57 PM

I actually like it, and this is actually not very "Kylie" but I like it.

Posted by: Juliano 3rd May 2019, 05:11 PM

Her best single since Put Your Hands Up.

Posted by: slowdown73 3rd May 2019, 05:42 PM

I can see why it never made the track list for Golden. It’s not bad but don’t really like her voice on it!

Posted by: ___∆___ 3rd May 2019, 06:26 PM

So pleased that we have a studio version and I’ve of course downloaded it and am streaming it but the live version is better tbh.

Posted by: lewistgreen 3rd May 2019, 06:56 PM

I think it will be too low (and I’m not expecting NYC to do anything officially) but it’s good to see her high up on the NMF playlist - after Dancing I don’t think she featured again in the Top 40 for any of the other singles cry.gif

Posted by: SmileyKylie 3rd May 2019, 10:40 PM

She didn't even mention it on Graham Norton lol.

But she did get a montage of some hits

It’s her fave thing to do this era -

1. Release a single and never mention it

Or

2. Release a single and promote a different single on TV the week it’s reeased laugh.gif

I think we can safely assume NYC is just a bit of fun and a thanks to the fans who kept requesting it.

Posted by: SmileyKylie 4th May 2019, 06:58 AM

Well she has the video coming out so I foresee some remixes next week or week after

Posted by: slowdown73 4th May 2019, 06:59 AM

I can’t believe she never mentioned it on Graham Norton. Any promo would help the track!

I heard she did but it was probably edited out.

Opens with over 90,000 Spotify plays.

Posted by: ___∆___ 4th May 2019, 09:14 AM

90,000 plays is a decent number for Kylie! Happy with that cheer.gif

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 4th May 2019, 10:38 AM

I bought it, and I'll stream it 10 times each day as well. #EveryLittleHelps

Posted by: SmileyKylie 4th May 2019, 10:59 AM

Wow 90,000 is what she usually gets per week. Just shows put her on a new music Friday list and high up.

Can we get a top 100 hit this week?

Oh sorry it that 90,000 worldwide ? Lol I was hoping UK only hahah

Posted by: ___∆___ 4th May 2019, 11:52 AM

Yep it’s 90,000 worldwide - she’s not in the UK Spotify charts so less than 50,000 of those streams are from the UK. The NMF playlist has certainly helped but she’s definitely not going to be troubling the official Top 100... If only they had continued with their love affair of cassettes and given us a limited edition one for NYC!

Posted by: ___∆___ 4th May 2019, 11:55 AM

Track of the week poll is up in the main chart forum and Kylie is currently in the lead by 1 vote for NYC so if you haven’t voted yet.... tongue.gif

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 4th May 2019, 01:06 PM

I was hopeful we could get a top 100 place, but that's certainly not gonna happen now. Ah well.

Posted by: pippa 4th May 2019, 02:40 PM

I didnt see this doing well but thought possibly Top 100.
I had also hoped it would be an iTunes Top 10 with ease.

Posted by: TheSnake 4th May 2019, 03:22 PM

Wow this is very cheesy but I prefer it to 'Dancing' definitely.

Posted by: ___∆___ 4th May 2019, 03:26 PM

Not appeared on any Apple Music playlists yet but have been placed as the #1 song on the ‘Kylie Minogue Essentials’ playlist which should help it get a few extra plays.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 4th May 2019, 04:31 PM

I like this but it will be forgettable in time for me and not a patch on dancing or any of the golden singles. I do see why it was left off golden.

Posted by: ___∆___ 4th May 2019, 07:09 PM

NYC has been added to 2 playlists on Apple Music - ‘The A List - Pop’ and ‘Best Of The Week’

Posted by: Juliano 4th May 2019, 10:41 PM

This would have fit so well on Aphrodite.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th May 2019, 02:31 AM

I dont think it would have fitted the Aphrodite album at all, if anything it could have passed as a good song on Kiss Me Once.

Agree with this.

Actually hearing the studio version of NYC makes me a bit mellow.gif at what direction the ‘Golden’ era could have taken if she hadn’t gone all country vibes on us, it could have easily been a KMO V2 and I’m sure would not have been anywhere near as successful.

Posted by: SamJudd 5th May 2019, 11:01 AM

I really like this song ever since she sung it live on her Golden tour, and finally glad we got a studio version, its a damn fine pop song. This is what Kylie does best pure fun pop music. It has a great frothy throwback feel to it, and yeah sure it wouldn't have fitted on 'Golden' and definitely wouldn't call the song a lost classic or anything, but its very fitting for her new Greatest Hits collection.

While Kylie's country pop sound was fantastic for one album, I am glad she's gone back to pure pop and hopefully for the next album she'll finally do that Disco album that we all want and will be up there with her all-time classics.

Posted by: ___∆___ 5th May 2019, 11:54 AM

Just downloaded from Amazon - Have downloaded from Amazon and iTunes now plus doing my 10 streams a day on Apple and Spotify. Always infuriates me that Kylie has a fan base that gets behind her albums but don’t stream or download her singles, rant over tongue.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th May 2019, 01:26 PM

I think the fans get behind the singles but there isnt enough hard ire fans to make a bug streaming impression that will help it chart. Many of kylies fans are also not the digital era but would support phyisical singles.

I didn’t initially (I downloaded the iTunes version then streamed on Apple) but then today to give it an extra sale I downloaded it from Amazon and it sounds better/smoother from them if that makes sense? I thought it was just me but maybe not.

arrow down.gif to #39 on iTunes now - hopefully they will throw out a few remixes of the song at some point too. As always just wished they would give us a physical format.

Posted by: pippa 6th May 2019, 08:16 PM

A physical available this week and some remixes released would have seen Kylie enter the Top 75.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 6th May 2019, 11:48 PM

With the label into multi formats I'm surprised they aren't capitalizing on multi single formats as fans want them.

I keep saying this and they know there is a demand for them, surely with the amount of cassettes they are ordering and seem obsessed with a limited edition cassette single selling for £5 would surely be cost effective? It might not give Kylie a smash hit but would get her into the charts - BMG seem totally switched off to singles success, they only pushed ‘Dancing’ due to the 7” vinyl giving it a Top 20 midweek chart placing.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 7th May 2019, 11:00 AM

I would prefer if they dropped some cassette album formats and gave the single even a cassette release as again fans would buy. I'm not buying the cassette versions of the album but would have bought a cassette single even if just for novelty factor.

I would be with this too, as there are too many cassette versions of the album in my opinion.
A chart entry in the singles chart helps exposure of the album.
This aside, it would be wonderful for Kylie to register another official Top 75 entry in the singles chart.

Totally agree with both. I listen to it a few times daily, I want to love it, but it's just not happening (yet). I enjoyed Kylie's other GH lead singles "What Kind Of Fool" and "I Believe In You" much more.

Posted by: pippa 7th May 2019, 06:54 PM

I also much preferred previous leads from her Greatest Hits releases.
I want to like this more and maybe in the coming weeks i will.
Disappointingly the single is not Top 100 in the midweek chart.

Posted by: ___∆___ 7th May 2019, 07:38 PM

Awareness is so low for ‘New York City’ - I asked a friend today who i class as more than a casual Kylie fan what they thought of it and they didn’t even realise it had been released.

I know Kylie and her team probably have zero expectations of NYC becoming a hit and they have put it out there solely to raise interest in the album but it’s not even going to do that if people don’t even know it’s out.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 7th May 2019, 07:49 PM

Is it just me who feels like this song isn't a proper single? Do we have any firm evidence that it's anything more than a promotional single?

It seems pretty low effort... it's a hidden track on the CD, it's not included on the vinyl or the cassette. The video is just clips from the tour. No artwork, just the album cover.

Posted by: Medellíam 7th May 2019, 08:10 PM

I believe it's been sent to radio but who knows what counts as a single these days? It does feel like a "for the fans" type release though.

There wasn’t much effort with Golden & LTTR either laugh.gif

I do think this is probably more of a thank you to fans though tbh - Kylie tweeted ‘You asked for it and you got it’. On the deluxe version of the CD it’s showing as a hidden track but on the standard version it’s showing as being on disc 1?

Posted by: pippa 7th May 2019, 09:00 PM

Many fans did want a studio version and to the credit of Kylie she has provided the fans with it.
I would think there is some stronger material left in some vault than this from the Golden sessions.

Posted by: slowdown73 7th May 2019, 09:14 PM

For hardcore fans, the greatest hits is a disappointment with little incentive to buy but if you’re a casual fan then it does include most of her hits spanning the main eras. I wish they had issued a limited edition 3cd set including some bonus mixes and unreleased material.

I’m happy with the content - I think for a Greatest Hits we’ve got exactly that. I’m also happy with the formats (although I think the cassettes are excessive) but I’ve ordered the complete bundle from her website plus the standard CD and green Vinyl from Amazon and will download from iTunes too - Kylie is snatching 11 sales from me in week 1 wacko.gif laugh.gif

I do think this is probably more of a thank you to fans though tbh - Kylie tweeted ‘You asked for it and you got it’. On the deluxe version of the CD it’s showing as a hidden track but on the standard version it’s showing as being on disc 1?

That's the thing, I'm pretty sure it's not actually a hidden track despite being billed as one initially?

It kind of almost feels akin to how 'Flower' was released, as in that level of low-key.

I agree with the ‘Flower’ comparison - If only they gave us a CD single and picture disc vinyl again for a single like they did with that cry.gif

How much did that cost if you dont mind me asking?

Posted by: ___∆___ 8th May 2019, 06:20 AM

^^ The bundle on her website was £130, that Amazon vinyl is £24.99 and the standard CD is £9.99. Far to much money but I’ve learnt from not buying everything in the past and then having to pay eBay prices for something I ‘need’ nocheer.gif

The video clip now plays on Spotify when you stream the song

I am now thinking we may get Golden Tour on TV to sell the Greatest hits CD .... It had all the hits so.....

Good also to see DJ fresh tweeting about it etc.

So people do know it’s out there, none of these friends are anything more than casual Kylie fans.

The song overall is almost unknown outside the fans but it is welcoming to hear it is reaching some people outside that base.

No show on the Radio 2 playlist today. Could this suggest it's not actually been sent to radio? Radio 2 are usually pretty quick to support Kylie.

That's my feelings too. I'm not too fussed though as it only seems to be a 'for the fans' type release and a little bonus for the greatest hits. If it were being pushed as a proper single, I'd have expected something a bit more substantial and progressive.

Posted by: ___∆___ 8th May 2019, 08:05 PM

Interesting it’s not been playlisted by R2 when she launched the song on zoe Ball’s Show last week - as above at the moment I’m treating this as a buzz track/thanks to the fans.

Let’s face it she doesn’t need new material to sell a Greatest Hits rammed full of hits.

Posted by: pippa 8th May 2019, 08:45 PM

While she doesn't need new material to sell a Greatest Hits, it does add to the package.
I say this especially for fans who own the material a few times over from previous purchases.

I don't really view it as a proper single either since there's literally no effort being made to go into this - tour video, a plucked track from the initial Golden sessions etc.

Or maybe it's because I just don't like it very much and would rather that it fades into obscurity.

I think it would have missed the top 200, because NYC is outside Independent Top 50 which is based not just on sales but on streams, too. Only top 10 - 15 indie songs make it to the top 100, so NYC might be around position 300 or even worse.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 11th May 2019, 09:14 AM

We only have a top 100 since ACR came about, so anything below that doesn't exist anymore.

Would #26 on the paid for sales chart be less than 1,000 copies do you think?

I love it but doubt it would have been released had it not been for the social media fan demand and Kylie did say it was asked for so she gave it.

I guess the only disappointment from a commercial viewpoint is that as most people are not warming to it it’s a shame it’s been given such a huge platform and it’s the only new track on the album.

I’m not convinced - we didn’t for MTSWY and ALTR and this feels like less of a single than those did. I think there is no/minimal interest in them trying to push this and R2 playlist is probably what they wanted and have got.

The difference is in the structure of the song!

Original:

Verse 1
Pre-Chorus
Chorus
Verse 2
Pre-chorus (with added "Away, away, away" ad-lib)
Chorus
Bridge
Chorus (with added "hey" / "yeah" ad-libs)
Outro

DJ Fresh Edit:

New/extended Intro (with "I just wanna get, I just wanna get, get, yeah, I just wanna get to you" from the chorus included in it)
Pre-chorus
Chorus
Outro (from the original song, minus the final "New York City!" final line from the original)
Pre-chorus (with added "Away, away, away" ad-lib)
Chorus
Bridge
Chorus (with added "hey" / "yeah" ad-libs)
New short Outro (which is sharp end of her "New York City!" final line from the original)

Most notably it doesn't include either of the verses.

Maybe Now didn't want too many Stock Aitken Waterman productions on their compilations during Kylie's early days? After Rick Astley, Bananarama, Donna Summer and Jason Donovan had left PWL, there were only some short-term hit acts (Sonia, Big Fun, Lonnie Gordon) around, so there was no more SAW competition for Kylie and she could be featured on Now more often.

I think another explaination might be the fact that S/A/W had their own compilations as early as 1987 - I imagine they might've wanted to reserve Kylie's hits for pushing those instead of NOW! albums.

Kylie scores her sixth number one on the UK Upfront Club chart.

From Music Week:

QUOTE
Her core repertoire is pure pop - but more than 30 years into her career, appropriate mixes of tracks by Kylie Minogue still have enough clout to top the Upfront club chart.

That is the case this week, with new mixes of two tracks from her new Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection compilation surging 7-1 upfront, while making a slightly less impressive 6-3 jump on the Commercial Pop club chart. Pairing Mousse T's mix of Step Back in Time with DJ Fresh's interpretation of New York City, it earns Minogue her sixth Upfront No. 1 of the decade, following the 2010 triumvirate All the Lovers, Get Outta My Way and Better Than Today, 2012 release Timebomb and 2018's Dancing.

It's still a pretty weak song but that is the best version of it I heard. I still think it was terrible choice of song to promote the greatest hits as it's one of the weakest if not the weakest on the whole album.

Posted by: pippa 13th September 2019, 02:10 PM

I would also be of the belief it was a bad choice of single to market the collection.
I would refer to this decision as one of the bad ones made by BMG.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 14th September 2019, 01:24 AM

It's strange a left over track from a previous studio album recording session was used as a single, going that route they had so so much better to choose from.

Posted by: ___∆___ 14th September 2019, 07:22 AM

I like NYC and the remixes just really odd marketing from BMG - they commissioned mixes for this and SBIT and then literally done nothing with them (Not even utilizing free social media posts to alert fans they were available).

I think Kylie responded to social media interest in the track plus it gave fans something different after ‘Golden’.

I think if the fans hadn’t pushed for a studio version of this then we wouldn’t have had anything new on the album, with them struggling to cram all her hits on a double disc there is no need IMO to add new tracks.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 14th September 2019, 12:58 PM

A new track is always a good incentive on a greatest hits.

Never a fan of this song, they really should have released something better to promote a collection that reflected her career. I know she wouldnt get big single success regardless but I think this was a bad choice.
