Now the first week of the new TV season is over let's take a look at what I'm thinking will survive and get renewed for next season.

First up... ABC

How to Get Away with Murder Smashes, Forever growing, black-ish a hit?

1.39 - Modern Family (CERTAIN RENEWAL)
1.39 - Scandal (CERTAIN RENEWAL)
1.39 - How to Get Away With Murder (RENEW PREDICTED)
1.18 - black-ish (MIGHT BE RENEWED... MIGHT NOT)
1.11 - Grey's Anatomy (CERTAIN RENEWAL)
0.86 - The Goldbergs (CERTAIN RENEWAL)
0.78 - The Middle (RENEWAL PREDICTED)
0.75 - SHIELD (MIGHT BE RENEWED... MIGHT NOT)
0.62 - Forever (MIGHT BE CANCELLED... MIGHT NOT)
0.53 - Nashville (RENEWAL PREDICTED)

It was on the whole a good first week for ABC scripted. This week I'll focus on the new shows, How to Get Away with Murder certainly did a lot better than most would have expected getting 100% retention out of Scandal's 3.9, obviously as it is a new show it remains to be seen whether or not it will continue to get those high ratings, I'm hoping for a YES for sure but I think it's guaranteed a back order now. black-ish also started well with a 3.3 rating but the post Modern Family slot has always struggled to be lucrative, this gives me double doubts about renewal and I think it's yet to be certain that it will get a back order. Forever is an interesting one, although it struggled for it's pilot episode only getting a 1.7 it grew for it's second episode the night after and if it keeps doing so or even staying put it's certainly going to get renewed but we will see how it goes in it's next few weeks.

Now it's time for... CBS

NCIS: New Orleans gets average start, Scorpion doesn't sting, Madam Secretary a good leader?

2.24 - The Big Bang Theory (CERTAIN RENEWAL)
1.37 - Scorpion (RENEWAL PREDICTED)
1.20 - NCIS (CERTAIN RENEWAL)
1.04 - NCIS New Orleans (MIGHT BE RENEWED... MIGHT NOT)
0.83 - Madam Secretary (MIGHT BE CANCELLED... MIGHT NOT)
0.71 - Person of Interest (RENEWAL PREDICTED)
0.58 - The Good Wife (MIGHT BE CANCELLED... MIGHT NOT)
0.54 - Hawaii Five-0 (MIGHT BE RENEWED... MIGHT NOT)
0.50 - Blue Bloods (MIGHT BE CANCELLED... MIGHT NOT)

On the whole the new shows on CBS performed well. Scorpion took advantage from the Big Bang lead in to become the second highest rated show for CBS last week, it's clear to me a huge amount of money was spent on the pilot and I wonder if the quality will remain as high for the remainder of the episodes. I expect it to hold quite well for it's second episode though. NCIS: New Orleans took off pretty much how Los Angelos was performing in it's slot last year, with it being a procedural I can see it holding on quite well. Madam Secretary started really well against the rest of the Sunday line up but there isn't much room for it to decrease in ratings and stay safe.

It's FOX's turn

Gotham starts with a bang, emergency surgery needed for Red Band Society

1.80 - Gotham (MIGHT BE RENEWED... MIGHT NOT)
1.13 - Sleepy Hollow (RENEWAL PREDICTED)
0.90 - Bones (RENEWAL PREDICTED)
0.85 - New Girl (RENEWAL PREDICTED)
0.68 - Red Band Society (CERTAIN CANCELLATION)
0.65 - Mindy Project (MIGHT BE CANCELLED... MIGHT NOT)

With all the hype and build up Gotham started big as expected with a 3.2 well ahead of the rest of Fox's line-up but if it's ratings drop anything like SHIELD did last year it will more than struggle to be renewed. Unfortunately Red Band Society started badly with a 1.3 and then dropped to a 1.1 for it's second episode and cancellation must be imminent, though I'm hoping for it to grow. With Fox currently struggling across the board it has made me less certain about my decisions on the shows.

And finally we go to... NBC

It's a mystery how Laura even got the chance to air

1.54 - The Blacklist (CERTAIN RENEWAL)
1.18 - Chicago Fire (CERTAIN RENEWAL)
1.00 - Law & Order: SVU (MIGHT BE RENEWED... MIGHT NOT)
0.86 - Chicago PD (RENEWAL PREDICTED)
0.79 - Mysteries of Laura (CERTAIN CANCELLATION)
0.63 - Parenthood (FINAL SEASON)

NBC has only aired one new show so far this season, and it's not looking like it has a bright future. Now starting with a 2.0 was actually very decent but unfortunately it last half a rating point for it's second episode which puts it's future in considerable doubt as I doubt it will even get a back order.

That's it for week 1 The CW has yet to air new episodes for the new season so obviously there is nothing for me to say. Also sorry it's late I was working all weekend. My favourite show of the week is definitely How To Get Away With Murder so I urge you all to watch.

I think SHIELD is a dead cert for a renewal given it's part of the MCU, which is owned by Disney, which owns ABC etc. Nashville, sadly is too, although we all know it actually ended when Rayna and Deacon died at the end of S1. I think Grey's will see a sharp fall off from that premiere number, probably to a 2.1-2.4 kind of level, enough for a renewal, but for a final season most likely.

CBS is an odd one, I think TGW will be back, despite the dismal ratings. Perhaps for a 13 episode season, but at this stage I would be shocked if it wasn't back. I reckon Madam Secretary will be a goner, unless it can stick around a 1.4, which seems unlikely. Indeed most of their drama's will probably be back I think, especially the Friday ones.

shall REVIEW Fox and NBC l8r

SHIELD does have an advantage over the shows but still if it's ratings drop its going to be in danger. While Nashville has the syndication advantage it will depend entirely on what deals are in the pipe line for it and if the value per episode is low and the ratings for it continue to slide this could be a rare instance when a third full season doesn't guarantee a forth. A 2.1 would be brilliant for greys in a slot that ABC has massively struggled with over the past couple years so I think it will get at least one more season. I think Shonda night may stand strong for a few seasons.

I can see TGW getting a short season if the decision to end isn't done before the final few scripts of this season are finalised.
