Chart Analysis

Chart Commentary

It's a second number one for Kiesza and Chris Malinchak this week as 'I Only Love You At Christmas' leaps to the top spot. Awkwardly, the song has been removed from all platforms, though I was able to get a copy (PM me if you'd like a listen). Malinchak previously went to #1 with 'If U Got It' in early 2014 and Kiesza's 'Giant In My Heart' spent 3 weeks at #1 later that year.

The duo who now go by Malinkiesza also enter at #17 with newer Christmas song '3 Hos', becoming the highest of two new entries. Also entering is Melanie Thornton at #37 with 'Wonderful Dream (Holidays Are Coming)', the Coke advert inspired song which dates from 2001, the same year she was unfortunately killed in a plane accident, though it is a new discovery this year.

The former #1, 'Happy Now' from Kygo slips to #2, as Mark Ronson & Miley Cyrus climb to #3 with 'Nothing Breaks Like A Heart' on the song's 2nd week in the chart. John Gibbons, Franklin & Nina Nesbitt fall to #4 with 'A Spaceman Came Travelling' as Chris de Burgh's original version climbs to a new peak of #15, and Leona Lewis completes the top 5 with 'One More Sleep'.

Hurts re-enter the top 10 with former #1 single 'All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day', not doing quite as well as this time last year when it was at #1, but it is the 4th consecutive year it has reached the top 10. Cascada get a 3rd consecutive year in the top 10 as their version of 'Last Christmas' climbs to #9, and Andy Williams re-enters the top 10 with 'Happy Holiday/The Holiday Season' at #10, also the 3rd consecutive year it has reached the top 10. Williams also gets a new peak with his better known track 'It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year', climbing to #21.

Battling through the holiday dominated chart is Gryffin who this week leaps to #20 with 'Remember', the BJSC winning track. It becomes his 3rd hit following 'Heading Home' (#30) and 'Whole Heart' (#3) which both date from 2016. Gryffin also re-enters the chart with 'Tie Me Down' at #93, out-peaking its original #96 position.

Re-entering the top 40 this week are a handful of Christmas songs, Boney M. at #32, Elton John at #34, Sia at #39 and Wizzard at #40. Outside the top 50 last week's BJSC entries climb, and Jax Jones quickly rebounds with new single 'Play', this week's biggest climber up to #77.
