After BW,TT can't make their second single hit in the new album.
The Circus,Progress,III,these albums just let the first single hit while other singles are flop.

The handling of most of their singles outside the lead singles have been a disaster for a very long time. The process appears to have worsened and there is no sign of it improving. They very much appear to focus on album sales.

The Circus wasn't too bad having a #9 and #14 single follow keeping in mind how many already had the album. I just think they are more an albums band as opposed to singles. Groups who have been around as long as them are exactly the same in that regard. They did well to have such a lot of singles chart success but that was from the hype of how good BW was.
Singles tend to be a young person's game whereas albums are a collective and show a truer sense of popularity.

I agree in part, but, when the effort was put in they managed to have successful singles. Groups such as Take That and other well established acts struggle with singles which is partly due to the age demographic of the fans which results in strong album sales. Like i have said in a previous post, i think Three re-release is their most worrying release as it is very hard to predict what the interest in it will be like based on the drop in sales of the original Three album in comparison to previous releases.

I think there are a number of factors such as their age; it's much harder as they get older to maintain their success particularly with singles. Recent singles haven't been worth buying as no b sides or remixes. They have struggled with AirPlay apart from the lead singles too.

When they first returned, they offered great value by adding solid b sides, this is no longer the case and makes the cd releases even less attractive than they once were.

Great point about the b sides.

I remember they handled Said it All fantastically as well, releasing 3 versions including a maxi cd, DVD of the video and the b side, 'throwing stones'.

That's what they need to do going forward. Physicals are massive for them when moving on to the 2nd and 3rd singles. If they had got a couple of thousand more sales from a good physical they would have made top 40

Their music just isn't as good now as their previous best. I am hoping they will be back again on top form.

Concur with everyone's reasoning. Follow up singles have failed to make an impact due to:

Poor quality, chaotic marketing and promotion, lack of B sides and insufficient air play.

Let In the Sun would have charted decently had the promotion not been such a disaster. The physicals went to no 1, but that was useless since they were released a week later than the digital version.
There have been a lot of wasted opportunities over time sad.gif
Tbh, I don't have many regrets for the 2nd and 3rd single from Progress, but I do feel sad that the singles from III were handled so badly. Higher than Higher could have as well never happened - not even fans knew about its release.
And I agree with the lack of b-sides being an important factor in the decline of their singles sales. I did buy their single cd-s, but they've remained unsealed, because I already have the tracks from the album. Whoever is buying nowadays their single cd-s is doing it out of loyalty and because they are collectioners, but the casual buyer has absolutely no reason to invest 5 or 10 pounds in a simple track.

I've seen lots of artists release 2 or 3 singles before their album. Maybe that's a strategy TT should try as well? They could try releasing 2 singles in 5 weeks and then drop the album.

PS: Does anyone know why Never Forget - the Ultimate Collection has been in top 100 on iTunes for over a week now? What brought this surge on?

There's something about airplay that I don't get: why do radios prefer to play older singles than newer ones? I find it a bit strange that they'd rather play Could It Be Magic or Relight or I Found Heaven (really?????) instead of Said It All, for example. I can understand BFG, but It Only Takes A Minute over Hold Up A Light or When We Were Young or Kidz? It makes no sense. You do start to wonder what a single must sound like in order to be played by radios. It's surprising that These Days is getting almost as much airplay as Rule the World and it's their 2nd most played single.

I'm still waiting for Romanians to catch up with UK radios and with this century smile.gif)
This week, for the 1st time EVER, Never Forget was played on one of our tv channels - and the biggest one at that, on one of the most watched shows. But it's usually BFG that gets played constantly here.

I would hope it will not be a rush release. The sound of this album is important and they need to focus on strong output with this release. Marketing must also be strong. Should this happen, wonderful things could happen again for them with sales.

Have to say I'm more than a little concerned. They normally take around two years to write and produce a new album, so any release at the latter end of this year could be considered rushed.

I would prefer a longer period to get the sound right. This album is the most crucial one since their return. Having listened to BW quite a lot over the past few days alongside ELO - which will please Kath smile.gif there are very few fillers, it's a quality album and I've just realized how many songs off the album made up the set list for the BW tour. They were confident about BW in a way I don't think they were with lll - hence fewer songs off that album made the latest tour set list.

I pray they return to the sound of BW/Circus - if they don't I predict a greater decline in their sales. sad.gif

I agree, it's curious that they are talking about a new record.

So I imagine they'll release it at Xmas, then tour for the anniversary in the summer and then release a GH for Xmas 2017.

Sounds a little busy doesn't it? They should have released an album in 2012.

They've been speaking about this new album since last year. Personally, I'm glad they're doing it this year. They can't afford anymore to have big gaps between albums. People would forget about them and move on. Besides, I think they're trying to get creative as long as they can do it. Gary said that the Las Vegas residence is due to last several years, so I doubt they'll be putting out new music during that time sad.gif

The 2012 album would have probably happened had Jason made up his mind. But at least we got Gary's solo album in 2013 biggrin.gif

I myself would be slightly concerned it will be a rush release as they have never released new albums so close to each other.
