Welcome to the Anderson Arena in the heart of the Suedeonian capital of Brettstown. In just one week's time this will be the venue for the results of BJSC number 96. Unfortunately, we were unable to host the semi-final as the arena had already been booked for one of Suedeonia's most important cultural events, the Nose Flute Championships. So, before the finalists are unveiled, here is a flavour of what you missed if you were not here.



> Vote with the 18-point system (18/15/13/12/11/10/9/8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1). You must vote regardless of whether you've qualified or not, and you cannot vote for your own entry

> The deadline for voting is Saturday 15 July 2017, 23:59 BST

Ops. Just to clarify. I sent the message the Saturday (1. July) before the confirmation period ended. My semi ranking was done as normal, I only used the holiday procedure for the final (listened to all the songs and ranked them from best to worst).

NocheLuna did say in the confirmations thread that he was gonna be on holiday! (I just replied to him then saying he could send in a full ranking, I wasn't aware this was supposed to be something 'subject to mod approval' but there's surely no reason to reject it anyway...) It's in the rules as subject to approval mainly so we know whats occurring in case we end up with another Vulkyria/Eledan situation where the contest goes tits up halfway through and we have to take over

Just heard the FSR Rontvia song and was so disappointed to find it's just a Turkish version of this:



RedOne banger back in the day was nearly an entry of mine back in 2012! The Yasar Gaga version just sounds like a fake cover version released to iTunes early to me

Indeed, we've been discussing this in my national thread though I'd never heard of the Khaled original before it was pointed out, nor did I realise it was a cover!

But having now heard both I wayyyyyy prefer the Yasar Gaga version! The production is much better for me, makes it sound almost like a World Cup anthem with the extra percussion and I adore the sax <3

I think I'm just so used to the Khaled version that it's hard to accept any variation! Plus I have thunk the French/Arabic language combo sounds nicer than Turkish to my ears.

Yeah I can understand that! To my ears the Turkish sounds better as I'm so used to singing along to it now, but then it was the first version I heard so it might have been different if I was familiar with the original.

I really thought this song was an epic original when I stumbled across it, I can't believe it has such a history I'm not even sure how I managed to bypass a RedOne song written at the near peak of his creative powers!

probably will be quite off from the final results (particularly Hendinia, Medhelnia and FSR Rontvia) but some interesting data to see how accurate/inaccurate our cumulative plug predictions are!

There is no way Helena would win! It's far too much of a pop song (in that it doesn't really equal to the other side of the spectrum as much) for it to go all the way. I'd be chuffed for a top half scoreboard position considering I haven't got past 17th or along the lines of that for over 2 years!

A better forecast would be the percentage of w00ts as opposed to the actual number, though of course the big hitters would still come out near the top in both.

29th would be a disappointment as I feel this is hugely stronger than my last two entries that came 26th, though at the same time it seems to be quite divisive so a midtable finish wouldn't surprise.

Having said that, the woots to listeners percentage ratio should give a closer idea of how things might look as just counting woots favours the songs on in the second half massively.

I'm part-way through semi 1, filtering tracks to merge with the semi 2 survivors, so this will be a saturday danceathon for me. The mp3 packs are SO vital for this for me...! So no early predictions and hypes I'm afraid

Voted! Amazingly high quality contest for me, even with somehow losing 7 out of the 10 I would have voted for had I been in Semi 1! I found 19 I really loved in the final even so and quite gutted to have to leave four tracks out.

Finally voted!

We ended up with a pretty nice final after all. The lows were very low but the highs were very high. My 18 hasn't budged but there was a clear battle between my 15-11 pointers and an even closer battle between 15 songs for the rest of my points. Good luck tomorrow, everyone!
