I really hope he hasn't just re-written H.E.S as thats my favourite song thats he's done in recent years, but this already sounds a million times better than Candy did when I first heard it. Quite excited! biggrin.gif

Posted by: awardinary 25th September 2016, 10:07 PM

Looking forward to this, hope he can still record good music and critically remain current.

Five stars from the Telegraph, four from the Guardian. cool.gif

Always nice to see how others view his stage shows as it's easy to get complacent when you've watched so many.

He did look really invigorated last night . I think he's up for the promo ahead and still ready to fight for his place at the top of the pile. cool.gif

He looked gorgeous too. wub.gif

THAT'S NOT ME! Robbie Williams replaces friend Alan Carr’s voice on his comeback single
The pop star cut the comedian from the track and used a female voice instead

It's 33 today on ITunes.

I wondered if there was a full video too but I just assumed they'd recorded the sequence for the TRV slot and that's it.

They could easily have used it for a full video though - it's really well done and as in nearly all his videos, he's playing a part, brilliantly.

He's flipping wasted not doing his acting....

Posted by: elisabeth1973 29th September 2016, 05:52 AM

I agree. Acting woul be perfect for him. I love HES. I should not look at the charts, but cannot help :-).
Is 32 good for a non-singl by an old artist?
As he has reserved stadiums already in Germany and Austria for next summer I assume that he will try a stadium tour.
I also pondered how 'party like a Russian' may sound and being judged in times of the political climate

Posted by: jay727 29th September 2016, 02:49 PM

I must say, I like HES...but Party Like a Russian is awful. Sounds like a rudebox reject. He'd be better using HES as the lead single...

https://dnj.to/2016/09/29/robbie-williams-party-like-a-russian/

Posted by: gooddelta 29th September 2016, 03:02 PM

Samples Dance of the Knights by Sergei Prokofiev then, like The Apprentice theme.

It's very heavily produced, sort of sounds like it could have come out in 2000 though. I don't love it or think it works in 2016 and don't think it will be a hit, not sure how this album will perform for him tbh.

Posted by: Cameron 29th September 2016, 03:10 PM

These days, Robbie is usually an album artist, so I expect it will at least manage a gold certification

Posted by: elisabeth1973 29th September 2016, 05:37 PM

can't see it being a hit either. Wonder why they had chosen it

Posted by: jay727 29th September 2016, 06:32 PM

Maybe that's why he has a second single lined up soon after? I hope this isn't going to be a Rudebox-esc experimentation...

Posted by: elisabeth1973 29th September 2016, 07:54 PM

not for the album

Posted by: Supercell 29th September 2016, 10:46 PM

Hmmm not sure what to make of Party Like A Russian. Sounds alright till it gets to the chorus, the sample doesn't work at all.

Know idea how this will perform, its not anywhere near as catchy as Candy. Bad Mother****** would have been a better lead single or Sensational

As Rudebox is my favourite Robbie album I would love it to be so but I don't think it will be. wink.gif

I listened to the single for the first time just now and then three more times on the trot and I love it.

Love the irony of the lyrics and the Prokofiev strings. It's very bold and different. I picked up this lyric - "I never smile unless it's something to promote, I just won't e.mote". laugh.gif

I don't know how it will chart but I'll be downloading it.

I just need to practice my Cossack dancing now. cheer.gif cheer.gif cheer.gif

I don't get why he randomly samples reality TV music in the background. It is quite odd on a first listen and I prefer HES but I'm gonna give it another chance tongue.gif

Posted by: Sydney11 30th September 2016, 06:04 AM

I really like it, it's quirky .. doubt it will do well in the charts though .... then again I said the same about that awful Candy & look what happened ...

I like it but its just another pop song. I think its better than Candy. Its catchy with funny lyrics i just wish he would do a more rockier album instead of trying to be like a young hipster.. ill get on board though

Posted by: Supercell 30th September 2016, 01:30 PM

After a few more listens its grown on me quite a lot. I can see this being a slow burning hit with it gradually becoming popular.

What is the feedback on PLAR coming from Russia Betterman

Posted by: Better Man 1st October 2016, 08:23 AM

Well, now the song is #3 on iTunes here.
Since 2002 year his profile hasn't been so high in Russia, at least for yesterday!

He was on news TV channels and not for 30 seconds: from 1 to 5 minutes per plot.

A lot of people who don't know English asked Djs on radio if Robbie attacks Russia or not.
So a lot of conversations in media and in society.

50% people enjoy the song, 50% use bad words.

He has achieved what he wanted. For all those who do not follow him that close;y as the fans he had not done two huge tours but was away especially in Britain. This song made people speak about him no matter if good or bad and Russia is a perspective rour destination too.
The next song he will publish - and that is the reason he publishes it so fast after PLAR in my opinion - will be the important pleaser for anyone.

So by the time the album comes out on 4th November Robbie will have released three singles and presumably the one he will sing on XF (if he gets a spot) will be the ballad that's out 21st October?

That's a different strategy to before isn't it.

PLAR is amazing, HES is good too. I find it interesting the he had a song called H.E.S. and now an album called Heavy Entertainment Show. Both HES songs are good though.

Just listening to the live version of Motherf***er now, it is pretty good smile.gif

I couldn't agree more Tess. Whether it's the music or on Graham Norton or on XF tonight - he always gets people talking. Some love him, some hate him but he's never boring. The day I'm not interested in what he's got to say is the day I stop being a fan.

I've just read an RW reply on upfront - someone posted that PLAR was a very bold move and that it might have been an easier ride to have HES as the first single and he said there was a danger of a RW release getting missed in all the modern music, so they had to be bold and brave. I respect that. smile.gif

Blimey. huh.gif

I kind of guessed that even before he released the track but it still makes depressing reading. wacko.gif i wonder if he'll ever be able to chart a singlr again? Yet that video has been viewed nearly 9m times in three days. Doesn't that count for anything?

I looked - the album is number one on the iTunes and Amazon pre order chart so let's hope that fairs better.

I don't even understand the streaming chart let alone be able to contribute towards it. sleep.gif

I have not expected different, but i am sure he will do good with the album and he will sell well for thr tour. As far as I saw in the official charts even Niall Horan only made it to the top 100 on place 100 and he is from 1D.
Can someone explain to me how this streaming counting works? Do they have to pay for streaming? I have no idea :-)
Apart of that I am and the fact that I am not that a huge fan of PLAR I like the marketing strategy of Sony.

yes. and Robbies 4h hours, but Robbie is a yesteryeared dinosaur who is not one of the top acts of the most successful boybands ever. It's not just Robbie, the streaming thing has hit all similar artists. The top 20 rarely changes much these days because of it. But Robbie doesn't help himself by releasing a very marmite song. I wonder if he'll do a medley of HES, PLAR and the next single on XF...

Niall is at 5 now, and Robbie at 53. Quite like the Robbie single.
Guess Robbie is of that age now

Posted by: Laura130262 3rd October 2016, 11:41 PM

Yes - it's an age thing. I don't think there's anything he can do about it. Just use the singles as promo for the album and see how that does. smile.gif

I listened to HES and PLAR today and I still think they made the right choice of single out of the two. He wanted to be bold and he has been. I love both songs and hope the album is represented by these two.

On XF (if he's on) I'm expecting him to perform the second single that's out on Oct 21st. Then two weeks later the album is out.

He's fighting for his place amongst the youngsters and I admire that. You always know he's going to try his hardest. wub.gif

Posted by: Sydney11 4th October 2016, 05:18 AM

I think landing PLAR as the lead off single was a good decision on Robbie's part , look at the comments on YT . 90% of them are from the Russian community & I think that is where his focus is this time around when it comes to his tour next year. Touring is where the bib bucks are for an artist like Robbie who is getting older, he certainly is not going to appeal to young people when it comes to buying his albums or singles . He did a lot of weddings in the past couple of years so I'm guessing it was part of a long term plan. wink.gif

I had both HES and PLAR on repeat in my car this morning - I'm really enjoying both. I can't really pick between the two. They're both excellent tracks and I hope the whole of the album is in the same "big/bold" vein.

Interesting that the video to PLAR is number one on the Itunes video chart and yet no one is buying the download. What sort of correlation is that?

I really don't understand the charts anymore. Pleased to see the video do so well though. It is brilliant. cool.gif

Maybe not everybody knows that there is a collaboration between The Killers and Robbie at the album.
This song called Mixed Signals. Track number 3.

Need to say there is a strong connection between Brandon and Robbie since summer...actually since Avicii's The Days...actually since 2009 when Rob named Human his recent fave song...actually since Live 8 in 2005 where Rob sang a few lines of All These Things That I've Done.

Well, Brandon used the same jacket (as Robbie in the clip) at The Killers concert last Friday. Both good lads!

Yeah, I have already sent a Twit to him and Robbie wink.gif

BTW, Mixed Signals has written by The Killers guys only. Without Rob.
Now it's time to go to bed but tomorrow I want to check one thing...
If I'm not wrong that's the first song in Robbie's discography where he does not appear as co-author (I exclude Swing albums).

In overall terms I would hardly call it a disaster... PLAR was put out for a reason & I think it was to do with marketing Robbie in Russia , nowhere else , he did do a lot of weddings there in recent years & what better way to introduce oneself than people having to ask themselves if he is insulting them or not !! , he certainly grabbed their attention ..

Party Like a Russian
October 04, 2016
So welcome to my second blog post! This week has been really exciting as we have unleashed unto the world, a new single - Party Like a Russian. It's been fascinating to see it's progress, making it onto the news in Russia and creating loads of energy on YouTube with lots of Russian comments. I have to admit I was a little nervous about this song going public but it seems to be getting a lot of attention and that isn't easy in this media saturated world! Our gig at the Roundhouse was a joy and we have been rehearsing for a little acoustic show which has been a completely different challenge - Party Like a Russian acoustic is a musical rub cube. We got the inspiration for the title from wandering around Red Square in Moscow, feeling the ghosts of all it's history. We were playing an oligarch's party that night and I was thinking it would be fun to write something Russian influenced and fun (but also a little scary at the same time).

Stay tuned!

I know - you can bet that he's feeling undeserving of it even before the news is out. That's the first thing I thought when I read about it - that he will feel he doesn't deserve it. It's a flipping amazing achievement and I'm glad they're acknowledging him while he's still fit and healthy. So many artists only get stuff like this after they're no longer with us. It's something that can never be taken away from him. He should be very, very proud cool.gif

The album sampler is here

Mixed Signals, Love My Life and Hotel Crazy don't sound good.

Motherf***er, David's Song, I Don't Want To Hurt You and Marry Me sound ok

Bruce Lee, Pretty Woman, Sensational, What You Know, Time On Earth, I Don't Want To Hurt You and Sensitive sound promising.

Party Like A Russian and Heavy Entertainment Show both grew on me a lot after listening to them so my opinions may change.

Posted by: Better Man 14th October 2016, 08:46 PM

Realy like the snippets, especially on Itunes.
Here it is:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4xgfmy_preview-rw_music

This record has a really good mood and this part of album reminds me SingWYW but regarding styles they are different albums, of course.
It shoud be very various record, well done Rob.

Mixed Signals is Robbie's AOR, remind me Journey smile.gif
Hotel Crazy is a very interesting and unusual men duet.

Sensational has my favourite bit, I like the album's version sounds like live version.

Need to stop before the while album smile.gif

Heres my thoughts so far
HES -good opener for album and maybe tour
Party like a russian -catchy but . . .
Mixed signals(you can tell its a Killers song)-good
Love my life -sounds like a hit
Motherf***er- brill sounds like early robbie
Bruce lee -i like it sounds a mix between muse and kasabian
Sensitive- least fave so far sounds abit like Lovelight
Davids song- nice song for his friend i like it
Pretty woman- catchy again
Hotel crazy- its ok sounds like it swings
Sensational- great way to finish the album and probably the concerts
BONUS
When you know-really like so far should be on album for me.
Time on earth-another good one sounds 80s could be on album
I dont want to hurt you- good
Best intentions-good
Marry me- really good
Really looking forward to this album its sounding awesome.

Favourites so far
Love my life
Motherf***er
Bruce lee (outsiders chance for a 3rd single?)
Davids song
Sensational
When you know
Time on earth

Posted by: Laura130262 14th October 2016, 11:42 PM

Marry Me jumped out on first listen. It's very beautiful. wub.gif

Like BM said - Bruce Lee sounds very Scissor Sisters and I can hear Roxy Music Let's Stick together. cool.gif I especially like Sensitive and David's song. Love My Life seems a good choice for the next single.

I like the sound of nearly all the tracks - looking forward to hearing them in full.

I think the album sounds fresh, not over produced like Take The Crown - I can hear Robbie's lyrics and Guy's deft touch. Quite an eclectic mix of songs, Robbie's voice sounds different on every track which I like.

I think it's going to do well. smile.gif

Posted by: elisabeth1973 15th October 2016, 03:19 AM

I like the different sounds. It is not boring at all. Has someone an idea which the John Grant song is? Hotel carzy must be the Rufus Wainright cooperation

STRANGE BREW
AMBITIOUS BUT WONKY 11TH FROM THE SOMETIME TAKE THAT MAN

ROBBIE WILLIAMS
HEAVY ENTERTAINMENT SHOW

COLUMBIA/SONY MUSIC

Now best known as an occasional member of Gary Barlow’s Take That, Robbie Williams enjoyed a thriving career in the post-Britpop era, propelled by his massive hit Angels. He was, with his deliberate insider/outsider relationship to his pop fame, the Lily Allen of his day. Now, after albums of standards and tours with Take That, Williams releases his 11th studio solo album.

Heavy Entertainment Show sees him reunited with songwriter Guy Chambers and features contributions from John Grant, Brandon Flowers and others. Musically, it’s a step away from the fanboy eclectics of, say, Rock DJ (updated Ian Dury) and Rudebox (Pet Shop Boys), returning partly to the ‘90s on Love My Life and the ballad David’s Song, but also ranging from the odd, Shirley Bassey-sings-Divine Comedy opener of the title track and the PSB-ish Party Like A Russian to the Scissor Sisters-doing-Don’t Bring Me Down of Bruce Lee (ironically without the “Bruce!”). There’s a grunty Pretty Woman (not that one) and a duet on Hotel Crazy with Rufus Wainwright, which contains the wronged-up line, “I’m a Big Mac short of a Happy Meal.”

It’s a sometimes peculiar, uneven set, lacking a big set-piece and letting the knowing lyrics pull much of the weight. At its best, it’s funny and genuinely strange: at its worst it flops the damp weariness of Gary Barlow’s Take That over Williams’ archer past like a wet saddle. The desire to do something different is admirable, but the results are unfocused, like a collection of B-sides to singles that never existed. ***

David Quantick

Listen To: David’s Song, Live My Life

I'm liking the fact that its something different. The snippets led me to believe it was quite eclectic and it seems to be so.

everyone is up to his own with his/her opinion. And every judgement of a single song can be different. I doubt though that this will be the last album if the single is not successful. Then it may be the last album of Gaga or buble either. Established acts may have a chance still of single luck, but it is small.
The album it is. I also doubt that Robbie has not the enthusiasm anymore he once had. I agree though that these days songs are more of a work than of a feel like they had been in his earlier difficult years. This does not necessarily mean the songs are worse.

From the little bits we've heard, there's a lot of lovely lyrics on the album. I'm looking forward to hearing them in full.

It'a lot calmer that PLAR but I guess they had to calm it down a bit after the hulabaloo they knew PLAR would cause in the media tongue.gif

I really like Love My Life. Had a feeling it would be good! PLAR is catchy and got peoples attention but this is better. In my opinion his best songs are the ones where he lets it all out. Nice one Robbie👍

Looks like the tour is going to be pretty big with a break in between I guess ... a lot more artists are doing that now so it's just accepted

Posted by: Laura130262 22nd October 2016, 11:38 PM

Although I don't think he was speaking literally on that Heart FM interview. To me it sounded more like a general comment.

I do think the tour will be big but if it's stadiums, then I'm guessing one per country or something, starting in May/ June in Europe and ending in December as per norm in Australia/NZ.

I'm also guessing he will do a gig or two in South America this time too. I hope so. They've waited ten years!! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Laura130262 22nd October 2016, 11:43 PM

They need to get the video out for Love My Life. smile.gif

I noticed PLAR is nearly up to 7m views on Youtube, so if they can get the new one out quick and he does do XF next week, then it will all help.

He was in Finland tonight apparently. Ten out of ten for his promo. They're working him hard. heart.gif He's been to that many countries - it must all be a bit of a blur. If the album isn't a success, it won't be for lack of trying.

He needs to slow down a bit & stop worrying about what other people are doing, all this hectic promo that he is doing is crazy , I know he has a tour to sell but he will have himself burned out even before he tarts & that is both mentally & physically.

He is not going to like that review , I think Robbie is trying to find what he had with Guy ( writing wise ) when they first started out but that's not always possible , they still write some really good songs but not sure those songs will appeal to this place & time, Radio stations etc have moved on, they are looking for what appeals to a younger audience when it comes to airplay & what attracts listenership. I like the what I have heard of the record , some of the songs will sound great in stadiums sung live . Robbie needs to stop comparing himself to Ed Sheeran etc who is relatively new in comparison to Robbie , he needs to keep doing his own thing & forget about the rest otherwise he will drive himself crazy & everyone around him

No I don't think he does it for attention Elisabeth. I think that is genuinely how he feels. It's worrying when he lets you inside his head though. Its not good nor healthy to worry this much though. I know it's a huge week for him and the promo has been insane and the pressure on him is huge. He must be knackered but i think he needs to just try and calm a bit otherwise he's going to make himself I'll before the Brits. It will all be alright in the end.

This album has a very rich sounding, I hear a big mix of different instruments.

Maybe Bruce Lee is one of the best examples of this mix: saxophone, drums, trumpets, electro guitar, tubular bells, kettle drum, etc.

Great record.

Robbie Williams' new album The Heavy Entertainment Show review: Is it any good, then ?

Robbie Williams is that "Heavy Entertainment Show," his new album? Critical!

D-Day for Robbie Williams! After months of discretion, the British rockstar is back in top form with "Heavy Entertainment Show," a new pop album in both traditional and bold. Our critique!

Robbie Williams was waiting. Busy playing jazzy crooners from "Swing Both Ways" (2013), the British icon seemed to have forgotten that she was able to engulf the crowds with screaming guitars, a good dose of self-mockery and a charisma foolproof. Do not panic, the wisp is back and in fine form on "Heavy Entertainment Show" , a 11th album where he lets speak with arrogance and panache, his sense of excess. If the self-titled debut extracted , washed down intoxicating vocals, brass and a hint of Serge Gainsbourg , mixed pop and strong taste for the big bands of the 30s, "Party Like A Russian" brings back the showman in him . Robbie Williams has understood: for fun, you have fun! It therefore slips into the skin of a Russian oligarch in his controversial clip, which has drawn the ire of Moscow, the former leader of Take That are paying in passing the luxury sampler composer Sergei Prokofiev and his ballet "Romeo and Juliet" ... Unpredictable. A word that describes perfectly this new vintage. Watch the clip "Party Like A Russian" Robbie Williams:

image: http://www.chartsinfrance.net/style/commun/puces/6.gif

Engine ... Action!

Throughout these 11 tracks, 16 on the deluxe version, Robbie Williams proves more than his singing talents: we are faced with an actor at heart, able to slip into roles sometimes poles apart. Our favorite is of course one of the nonchalant rockstar, with a boundless energy that surrounded cabotine devastating guitars "Bruce Lee". On this electric piece, straight out of Texas , his voice plays in the hills and reminiscent of Matthew Bellamy on "Supermassive Black Hole". More in line with his eccentric character again, the fifth track is a profession of faith. " I'm a bad motherf***er ," he insists frankly, loop, and the memory horns imp he sported during his last tour proves it. The bad boy turns into seductive - in this register, Robbie Williams is also at ease - of "Pretty Woman", clear tube writing Ed Sheeran and Benny Blanco. " Why do not you shake what you've been Given from your momma? " He asks, ready to succumb to temptation in a scraped strings festival.

Rest assured: pop ballads, he is one of the proud bearers from "Angels" are waiting for you. Broken exercise, Robbie Williams excels when it adopts the tone of confession. "Love My Life" , on which he says mischievously, " I am beautiful, I am free, I am powerful ," is a beautiful testament for her two children. Before "Marry Me" tenderly devoted to his wife Ayda Field, Robbie takes the time to honor the memory of his former manager David Enthoven, who died of cancer during the summer, through a poignant title piano named "David's Song. " One of the most sincere moments of the disc, the fruit of his reunion with Guy Chambers, the producer of his greatest hits ( "Feel," "Supreme", "Angels" ...).

Amazing and daring attempts

But at 42, Robbie Williams does not just highlight the old recipes. And creative player, the singer offers intriguing risk taking including working with Stuart Price, creator of the excellent "confessions on a dance floor" (2005) Madonna . Besides "Bruce Lee", already mentioned, the two artists breathe a key electro-funk amazingly successful in "Sensitive", whose low bouncing sounds like a clarion call to wiggle. Psychedelic desire, the well-named "Crazy Hotel" is a curious jingle shared with Rufus Wainwright whose languor hypnotizes. As for "When You Know", one of the bonus tracks, it leads Robbie Williams in its Asian sounds. With both hands applauded this desire to renew!

Play "Time On Earth"
"Time On Earth"

What's behind your eyes makes you a star

I want to take my time on earth and give it meaning
They say you get what you deserve, I know the feeling
[?] only get you so far
What's behind your eyes makes you a star

I'm gonna walk onto that stage like it's my destiny
Stand and tell the truth, make no apologies
If tomorrow I should die, these are my memories
I'm gonna take this simple life and make history

I dream a fantasy and then achieve it
Repeat the greatest lie till they believe it
You and me, not gods, define us now
You come here screaming, leave in silence

Oh, I'm gonna walk onto that stage like it's my destiny
Stand and tell the truth, make no apologies
If tomorrow I should die, these are my memories
I'm gonna take this simple life and make history

Let's fly higher than the mocking birds
They won't touch us way up here
In the sole asylum of the universe
A man can disappear
Raise a glass to the dysfunctional
It's never ever too late
I fell like miracles are happening
If I could just get out the way

I want to take my time on earth
And give it meaning
They say you get what you deserve
I know the feeling, feeling, feeling

You've gotta walk onto that stage like it's your destiny
Stand and tell the truth, make no apologies
If tomorrow you should die, these are your memories
You've gotta take this simple life and make history

i love the album. totally unexpected after that dreadful first single: Party like a Russian.

The album is vintage robbie with some spices of rudebox and previous albums.

such a great return of my king.

So I'm really loving Hotel Crazy. "I present myself as a normal dude, look you in the eye when I talk to you"

I think it could have easily fitted onto SBW.

I love Marry Me - that might be my favourite. It's beautiful just like Bullet on UTR.

Also love David's Song, Mixed Signals, Sensitive wub.gif

I think it's as good as UTR and better than TTC and RKTV for me.

It doesn't feel fragmented to me like the reviews said but maybe that's because Robbie's albums are always very mixed in styles. I think this could do really well for him.

Oh and I can hear Guy's expertise all over it. cool.gif

Really liking this album especially
Mixed signals
Love my life
Motherf***er
Bruce Lee
Davids song
Hotel crazy (didnt think i would really like it as much as i do!)
And all the bonus tracks could easily be on the standard album because they are brilliant.

I Don't Want to Hurt You has that Latino feel about it , I like it, Roobie's voice sounds lovely on that record

This song jumped out at me on second listen this morning. I love it. It's quite hard to hear John Grant on it though.

It sounds like a film score to me. Very "big" and theatrical. cool.gif

Have a mixed view of the album whilst I generally like it overall, its not as good as his classic first five albums, but better than Take The Crown which I think was a good album plagued with poor single choices.

Pretty woman is an absolute corker, how an earth this wasn't the lead single i'll never know as it could have had a chance at no.1. Also really like Hotel Crazy, especially the film quotes, "the only thing they should be checking out, is my ass" laugh.gif almost spat my tea out the first time I heard it.

Thought this was a good summary:

"It's very easy to work out Williams' enduring, massive success from spending a little time with him. He's beyond charming, hugely talented, strikingly handsome but slightly broken and a little dangerous, meaning people fancy him, want to be like him, idolise his music, or want to fix him, possibly all four at the same time. And there's little sign of that changing."

They've cancelled the two Polish gigs. RW said himself the promoters were overly optimistic with gigs in six Eastern European countries so ticket sales in Poland suffered. So, they've pulled it.

I admire his honesty. I'm not sure many artists would tell the truth in this situation. No bullshit from that man.

Posted by: elisabeth1973 20th December 2016, 06:15 AM

The cancelled both gigs? There is a lot of fear between fans that more gigs will be cancalled. The German ones have almost sold out, Austria, Italy Netherlands all sell well. But I guess he or the promotor thought that there ismore money between the peoplein Eastern Europe. I wonder how the Russian gigs are doing.
I wish him so much luck.
As you say Laura, whowould be so honest.

I often wonder is that the reason he does not go to South America, it costs a lot of money to put on a tour & heas has to make monet out of it after everyone else has been paid otherwise what's the point

Hopefully those that did buy tickets can reallocate to the other Eastern European gigs.

Posted by: Sydney11 22nd December 2016, 05:34 AM

I wonder if the bad sales are related to the cost of the tickets as well .

Posted by: elisabeth1973 22nd December 2016, 06:22 AM

It is difficult to tell as we do not really know how tickets sold. The usual countries he visited are selling well. The UK is not selling like in the past, but he is up against TT selling tickets before foralmost teh same time and the fan base is similar. Many can only afford one ticket. Plus, ticket prizes and thepopularity which is not that huge anymore as yearas ago with a new ticket and record buying public and his fan base definitely not in the age of stadiums anymore.
In the countries of Eastern Europe the ticket pricesmight indeed be too high. However, it still takes months until the gig and I reiterate this, even en vogue stars like Beyonce and Rihanna and old stars like Madonna have difficulties to sell tickets and play in front of empty stadiums.
The only sure bank there is Coldplay and U2

it sold almost 400000 in the UK only, gold in NL, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and germany

I'd be surprised if it was 400K Elisabeth. He got to 300K just before Christmas and then sales would have ground to a halt. If I were guessing I would say 320K in UK.

Where's Betterman when we need him? smile.gif

No , we do not have a thread for single discussions thread, we would usually discuss under the relevant album thread but I think the single kinda passed us by , I like the song but I think it went un-noticed at the Brits

The album did well enough overall which is hard when you are an older artist & have been around for ages !!

I think it has gone unnoticed which a shame as I really like Mixed Signals.

I wonder if he will sing it on Ant and Dec this weekend?

I can't think of anywhere else he hasn't already been on.

Posted by: elisabeth1974 28th February 2017, 04:36 AM

but Ant and Dec was recorded last year :-(.
I read the number, Laura, can't remember where. it was not exactly 400,000 but aroung 385,000 if I remember it correctly and I was suprised as it was only in the UK.
BM? Do you have the UK and Total figures?

Posted by: Better Man 28th February 2017, 07:38 AM

No, it's less for UK smile.gif

Now it's 322k in UK.
Totally is 650k.

In recent years (since GH 2010) Robbie usually has the rest World sales equal to UK sales. Well, the trend continues.

Those are decent enough sales. cool.gif

He has to work hard for his sales here though doesn't he?

When you think of how much promo he does in the UK compared to overseas. The albums seem to sell themselves in other countries.

He is brave to be doing stadiums this Summer, what I am noticing these days is that people have way more options when it comes to live music .I think that is why Robbie has slotted in a few festivals along the way , it's a different market We have live music in this city every weekend & they sell really well & are not too expensive . the cost of going to a show in a stadium in Dublin costs a fortune , crazy prices for hotels etc & not affordable for most folk

I've always read that it was decided on sales. So I was wondering if out of those acts in Germany RW had sold the most? unsure.gif

The TT album is selling really well. smile.gif

While I was reading about their sales success today, I saw The Heavy Entertainment Show is still number 38 in the UK charts. That's not bad for nearly five months is it? I had no idea. cool.gif

I had the pleasure of speaking to Betterman on RW.Com. He said it's in with a chance of beating Intensive Care as his longest charting album in the UK Top 100 (29 weeks). Obviously the sales are no where near IC levels but it's still some measure of longevity isn't it. smile.gif

You go on the chat tab Elisabeth. When he's in there the red light comes on and it gets pretty crowded. Type in your question and see if he answers. Although to be honest I'm rarely on chat. I prefer the forum although the Upfront forum isn't as good as the old RW.com forum. It's quite chaotic. wacko.gif Better Man reported UK sales 330k and world wide sales 700k. It's funny despite the dip, Robbie has still kept his ratio of sales from 50%UK and 50% rest of world. Although I'm not quite sure what that means. smile.gif

In the music and lyrics section Elisabeth. I posted a little thread.

I don't often start threads but do comment on other peoples. If you comment on a thread, when someone else does it comes up as a notification when you next sign in. Otherwise it's very hard to keep track as it moves very quickly. That's why I don't really like it. Not like the old RW.Com forum. But it's all we've got over there so...... sleep.gif

Plus, you can not have a discussion or a question answered like with you doing it BM. It would be great if Monica and Viking would join here :-). Thanks Syd that you told me about this when TRWS closed.

It does make you wonder why artists even bother with promo. It hardly seems worth the effort for a few thousand sales. Surely they would do better doing a live pod cast?

I could see RW doing something like that. Live chat then perform a few songs on Facebook or Twitter or even on RW.com. Wouldn't that sell just as many as an appearance on Graham Norton for example?

I think TV promo nowadays could be totally wasted.

The promo though is mainly for the tour though Laura & the launch of the tour is usually after a new album hence the connection & the 'Who Ha' that goes with it so i suppose it does sell tour tickets but not necessarily albums . I do like to the Robbie doing promo on tv , at least we get a chance to see him in between tours

I believe there are a lot of empty seats at these gigs due to ticket touting & block buying of tickets which is both unfair on the artist & genuine fans trying to buy tickets on the day. I see tickets still available online here for Robbie''s gig all being sold privately

I think the Aussie tour will still take place. The fact that they are considering doing it another year to the European tour makes me think he might do it in conjunction with a visit to South America.

Then after that Take That I would say. Autumn 2018? I think that's definitely next.

Posted by: Better Man 28th April 2017, 08:10 PM

I also almost 100% believe Aussie tour will come.

Considering this era since last spring (during recordings, etc) almost all what was announced or was mentioned by Rob happens at one point.

So I think Sony + Robbie do a great work with THES, that's what I call the teamwork.

So, Vaughan Arnell directed already 16th Rob's clip! And it's perfect again, especially the ending smile.gif

I really love it. cheer.gif Both the PLAR video and this one are really strong. However many of them he makes, he never loses his inventiveness (except for that bloody awful Morning Sun one that that I reckon cost one and six). dry.gif

Here's his little speech that he gave to Anthony Joshua before the video was shown.

I think this album was a bit of a weaker effort overall but there were lots of songs I enjoyed like Party Like A Russian, Motherf***er, Mixed Signals and Heavy Entertainment Show.

Posted by: Laura130262 28th May 2018, 12:32 AM

My favourites were the two swing songs at the end. smile.gif

I re-listened to some of these songs today and they were sounding so good biggrin.gif

It is incredible how he has been bringing out such amazing albums for twenty years.

It is when you think most acts don't get past a couple of albums before they disappear.

Just this minute on Twitter I saw a photo someone posted of a ticket for 5th November in Chile so I'm guessing yes.

What size venues is he playing there -do we know? Arena's? Or smaller as it's been 12 years?

Posted by: elisabeth1974 5th June 2018, 03:41 AM

one venue is 17000 I saw

Seems about right I would think

Hey, I have a question about the Motherf***er lyrics. So the chorus is

QUOTE
Your uncle sells drugs
Your cousin is a cutter
Your grandma is a fluffer
Your granddad's in the gutter
Your mother is a nutter
Your mother is a nutter
We are mad motherf***ers
You're a bad motherf***er

But what exactly is a fluffer?

I googled it and the results was quite 'interesting' as it says it is a person who helps a male pornstar to perform on set but I don't really think that's what Robbie meant in the song (or maybe it is laugh.gif )

What exactly is a fluffer?

The gig in Argentina has been cancelled due to the weather.

Those poor fans - they've waited twelve years. cry.gif

Posted by: Sydney11 11th November 2018, 07:29 AM

That is just absolutely awful , I am sure fans would have travelled to BA for the gig , I take it they cannot reschedule

Posted by: Sydney11 11th November 2018, 07:35 PM

I can see from reading online that the Argentinian fans are really upset over the way the festivals organisers handled the situation & I think they were left in the dark about the whole thing until the last minute , it must be so disappointing for them but hopefully Robbie will go back there again as soon as he can, he kept his promise about giving the free gig in Dublin so I sure he is gutted about the event been cancelled but it looks like there was nothing they could do , at the end of the day people's safety comes first.

Realistically though - I wonder how long it will be? The next time he tours an album I guess. Really bad luck for them though.

Had this on in the car yesterday and I had a re-appreciation of it. The first five songs are real whoppers and then there's Hotel Crazy which I love, Best Intentions and When You Know - I love and then the beautiful Marry Me at the end.

I really did enjoy it. smile.gif
