There could other ways apart from a charity single, he could have done a telethon, concert possibly.

I must admit I'm not keen on the track that was chosen, realistically Tears In Heaven originally sang by Eric Clapton would be more appropriate.

I'm sure most of the artists will have privately donated. Most of the time they don't want the donations going public.

Anyway, seems most of the artists are from London or are based in London. It's close to their hearts.

I'm a fan of raising money for a good cause but I do think that charity singles should only be done when there is a special connection. That's why I supported the campaign for 'One Last Time' because there were numerous special connections there and it was the perfect tribute for the victims. A bunch of random musicians who are available singing a song that has been covered multiple times, is not a perfect tribute.

There are so many better ways to help raise runds than this publicity stunt.

I enjoy the overall sentiment, but I agree with above, and also the amount of money made from a short lived charity single is not exactly going to do much to help, it'd probably cost more creating it. There are much more important things to be doing right now like demanding answers, educating people on why this happened and making sure it never happens again. At the site at the moment they're not even taking donations at the moment as they are overrun and are just pleading for man(or woman) power to help with all the chaos.

I hope I don't sound heartless and I'm sure Simon Cowell means well but I'd rather he hadn't planned on releasing this record. To me it just doesn't feel right.

Sorry but I find this to be an absolute publicity stunt for Cowell. Who even is he in relation to the event? And why does this event even need a charity single? Tragedies happen all the time. It's sad but that's life. I say f*** off Cowell and your 'charity' - why not donate the money and not bother?

Why doesn't Cowell and the artists involved donate some of their obscene wealth instead of going through this pathetic ego stroking exercise?

The ghost of the "Helping Haiti" single from 2010 rather rattles its chains here. If this does happen then I can almost certainly predict that 1000s of copies will remain unsold in the months after in a similar way to that single. The truth is the Ariana Grande single had some gravitas to it because it was personal to the tragedy. Simon does mean well but a concert would have been better received.

if they are indeed covering Bridge Over Troubled Water then I can see it really underperforming, it was only 18 months ago when NHS Choir took it to #1.

and seeing as it'll be released Monday it'll only have 4 days of sales.

What they could really do with is a CD single.

The concept of a rush-released, unrelated charity single following a tragedy are satirised perfectly in this clip:

Given that charity singles barely get listened to, than it stands to reason they won't get streamed much, so they are overwhelming dependant on paid-for sales. Nowadays those are only about 10% of the market, so it would take very exceptional circumstances indeed for one to go to #1.

Exactly my thoughts. The least they could do is think of another song to cover, what relevance does Bridge Over Troubled Water have?

Also apparently Stormzy & Lily Allen are on this laugh.gif Under regular circumstances she could probably pull off an amazing cover of Bridge Over Troubled Waters (much like she did Somewhere Only We Know) but Stormzy? rotf.gif

It's an appalling idea. mad.gif

Why does he have to get in on the act? If it's because he's a resident of the borough let him do something hands on to help and give some of his millions to help those lost everything. But no, he has to see it as a chance to promote his artists and stroke his ego as per usual.

Leona was photographed outside the studio where it's being recorded, so safe to say she'll be on it.

Edit: James Blunt/Rita Ora/Paloma Faith and many others were seen at the studio too - Link
