A representative from Avicii’s camp confirmed the news to Billboard: “2x Grammy-nominated songwriter/producer Tim Bergling and his production/publishing entity Avicii Music AB have parted ways with manager Ash Pournouri, At Night Management. Bergling is signed to Universal Music Sweden and is expected to release an album next year.”
In many ways, Avicii’s rise to international stardom has inextricably intertwined with Pournouri and his molding of the producer. Under Universal Music Sweden and no longer tied to At Night Management, we may very well be seeing a new vision for the Avicii brand in 2017.
Avicii’s departure from At Night Management follows that of Axwell Ingrosso, who left Pournouri’s team in September to rejoin with former manager Amy Thompson. His impending new album for 2017 follows 2013’s True and 2015’s Stories.

Posted on Instagram against a backdrop of Machu Pichu, Avicii writes, “New music coming (very) soon!” along with a variety of hashtags, presumably relating to track titles. The song in the Instagram post is undoubtedly the first hashtag, “Friend Of Mine,” featuring powerful vocals and a distinctly folksy timbre.
Presumably this 'Friend Of Mine' will be the comeback single, and you can hear a preview of it on Instagram (or click the above link)
OMG finally some news on the upcoming Avicii era.

That sounds like a huge chart hit in the waiting, it's got more of a tropical pop feel to it.

Its a shame that there hasn't been a mention of his song with Sia (All I Need) but then I guess it could go on the second EP? I will be disappointed if he doesn't release it.

It sounds very similar to Rita Ora, and all the Rita fans are saying it is her in the comments - so yeah, it most probably is the Rita collab. It sounds absolutely BRILLIANT, though, that drop is going to sound so so good in CDQ

I remember that Dan Reynolds (leader singer of Imagine Dragons) was on a vocal version of Heart Upon My Sleeve which unfortunately didn't make it to his first album. Adam Lambert was on Lay Me Down too which was interesting. Then he had Robbie Williams on The Days, Chris Martin on True Believer (and Heaven which is a jam

Chris Martin wasn't actually on 'Heaven'. That was just a rumour, it was in reality Simon Aldred (i.e. the vocalist of 'Waiting For Love').

Terrible quality sound but this version is unmistakably Chris Martin, and is much better than the Simon Aldred version too. 0:39
I remember a full version of the Chris Martin version bouncing around a couple of years ago, it was a live version and not great quality but sounded really great as a song. There was a Billie Joe Armstrong song in the works too but I'm not sure if that was a rumour or not

I am disappointed judging by the preview of Lonely Together, Avicii should be driving new trends, not doing a track in the current overused tropical style that all Scandinavian dance producers in particular seem to have got an unfortunate fetish for (must be the Kygo effect!)
Happily, the one shared by djtigerlily sounds a lot better, nice piano house and an interesting, I'm guessing Eastern European folk inspired electronic drop. Hopefully that one will be released first and not Lonely Together.
Haven't listened to any of the other previews yet, I must do so!

There doesn't appear to be any info about a release tomorrow. If a video does happen, it can happen, it'll be like before OA/OS when videos were all a part of the hype and build up to a release of the song

So if 'Avīci' means 'hell' in Buddism, what are the chances that the second EP will be a Buddist word for 'heaven'? Either that or he didn't want to be generic and have a self-titled EP so found an interesting word that's similar to his stage name to use instead.

He named himself Avicii after the Buddhist concept of 'Avīci', it was no accident or coincidence.
There are various evil acts which can lead one to be committed to the eternal torments of the Avīci Hell. People reborn in Avīci generally have committed one or more of the Five Grave Offenses:

Intentionally murdering one's mother

I hope he hasn't scrapped All I Need (with Sia) and that it will appear on the second EP. I personally love that one so it will be a shame never to have it in HQ.

At 17 minutes as an EP, will it classify as long enough to enter the Album Chart? I remember the Coldplay EP recently couldn't because it didn't make the minimum time but this has 6 tracks (compared to Coldplays 5) so will it?

The minimum time is 25 minutes so it won't be album chart eligible. And at £3.99 which is the same price as 'Kaleidoscope' it'd be too cheap to be classified as an album anyway.

initial thoughts:
1. Friend Of Mine (feat. Vargas & Lagola)
sounds very much like his 'Stories' material, would've sounded great as an album track on there. the drop is excellent with the synths reminding me of Waiting For Love.
2. Lonely Together (feat. Rita Ora)
Rita Ora really doesn't sound like herself on this, that's probably for the best though. sounds a bit more ~2017~ but still got that Avicii trademark sound, it has a similar BPM to tropical house but that's about it.
3. You Be Love (feat. Billy Raffoul)
this one is a bit more 'True' era sounding, reminds me of a few of the album tracks off that. the vocalist isn't particularly amazing but the production of course makes up for that.
4. Without You (feat. Sandro Cavazza)
now this is truly amazing, with any luck it'd be the big single though that's probably more likely to be 'Lonely Together' (edit: it appears this is getting an iTunes Hot Songs push, yay!). very uptempo and has a big chorus.
5. What Would I Change It To (feat. AlunaGeorge)
this is nice enough but a bit too chilled for Avicii, wish it built up to something bigger.
6. So Much Better (with Sandro Cavazza) [Avicii Remix]
this is quite chill for Avicii too but it has a better build up and better production overall.
I'd rank it something like this at the moment
1 - Without You
2 - Friend Of Mine
3 - Lonely Together
4 - You Be Love
5 - So Much Better
6 - What Would I Change It To
overall it's really good, so glad Avicii is finally back!

I got so used to the live extended version of Without You that this kind of feels like a heavily edited down radio version. It's still 10/10 and the best song on the EP but definately needs at least 30 seconds added to it's runtime.

I think the songs get worse as the EP goes on. Friend of Mine is definitely the standout for me, Lonely Together is decent to listen to, the next two are nice but not amazing and the AlunaGeorge collab is really a let-down 
Shouldn't be complaining though, it's new Avicii!

I listened to 'Without You' and it's 10000000 better than anything from Stories (with ease). I did hope this time away would help him try and get back what he lost with that project.

8.5 Without You - agree about Rita's vocals and how different Avicii's style is here! The vocals are kinda like how they'd be on #TRUE tho

10 Without You YES this is great TRUE teas again but with elements of his PGFABD style
Pretty decent EP with no mediocre song which I didn't expect after his last era although it's still not STRONG it's a decent release from him and I've no idea if the second EP will be better or of a lower standard

Without You is definitely the right choice for big commercial push. It doesn't sound too dissimilar to his previous era but it does the job. Not mad about it on first listen but I see myself playing it a fair bit.
Lonely Together is an interesting one! Think I'm preferring that due to it being slightly different. Only heard Friend Of Mine of the rest & that's passable.
Nothing anywhere close to Waiting For Love but it's good to have him back as the current crop of mainstream dance hits are largely awful.

Can't get enough of 'Lonely Together'. I think I'd like it even more if Rita's vocals weren't so pitched but I actually really like them like that too. Don't get the fuss with 'Without You' at all, it's so basic.

It's getting a proper music video as well! There's a preview of it if you talk to the Avicii Facebook Messenger bot.
I expect we'll get lyric videos for all of the EP songs, except for 'So Much Better (Remix)' as Avicii didn't upload the audio of that to his VEVO. And proper music videos for 'Friend', 'Lonely Together' and 'Without You'.

Without You (ft Sandro Cavazza) is the only one I like on this EP sadly. 'Without You' though makes it up for me by being imo one of the best dance songs of the year so far.
I particularly like the drop in it and the buildup, the last drop in particular with those synths is actually a little bit 2002 eurodance reminiscent I think, albeit with a slower beat.

'Lonely Together' didn't sell just from Rita's name power, sure it helped but Avicii is clearly a big enough name to get hits without big name artists.

I think Rita's name undoubtedly helped, certainly as far as the UK goes as she's a much bigger name than he is right now. However, I think it's exactly what he needed having been away for a while and how the Stories era didn't go quite as well as True.
I never really got the love for Without You, it didn't feel like anything new to me really while Lonely Together is much fresher for him!

He should really have seized the opportunity by now to follow up Loney Together quite quick before his resurgence becomes quickly forgotten. It was the perfect springboard to another hit... but it’s getting later and later as each week and month passes.

Lonely Together was co produced with Cashmere Cat, who is the one who makes LT sound so different to Avicii's "regular" stuff
I really can't wait for Avīci (02) whenever that is apparently coming, hopefully we'll get news sometime soon since the singles from 01 have died down in most places by now. I'd be happy with 5/6 more songs like what he gave us in August, although I hope some of it goes over 3:30 this time

Without You has just passed 100 iTunes plays for me (since the counter reset in April 2017)! A big accomplishment really as it's only the second song to do so - Lonely Together is also not far behind in 3rd place. So... there's a bit of Avicii news to keep us going I guess x.x

We are apparently getting the 'True Stories' documentary arriving on Netflix this Saturday based on an instagram pic from the director (rumoured on https://www.reddit.com/r/avicii/comments/87ag6w/director_of_true_stories_just_posted_this_on/)
As for when EP #2 does arrive I'm going to predict August, we'll probably only get one EP a year at this rate.

The plan was for there to be three EPs which would be combined together eventually to make the third studio album. Don't expect we'll get that anymore. Hopefully there is enough finished unreleased material for at least one more EP.

Ive ordered the e.p. On CD from CD Japan. About £14 including postage and contains an additional remix. I have his first two albums but don’t have the e.p. and wanted to buy it a while ago but now feels the right time as a celebration of his excellent discography.
