I've seen all of these so here's my ranking:
1 Christian Bale "The Fighter" 2 Jeremy Renner "The Town" 3 Mark Ruffalo "The Kids Are All Right" 4 Geoffrey Rush "The King's Speech" 5 John Hawkes "Winter's Bone" I liked the whole top 3 but Christian was definitely way out in front, it's an over-the-top character for sure but he made it feel very real and emotional and together with Melissa Leo, they stole the entire film. Renner was great in The Town (still sad he was its only nomination though!) and it's one of the best things I've seen him in. Spotlight is still my favourite Ruffalo role but this is probably second, he really made me laugh at times. I found Rush really annoying in TKS speech but at least he was memorable, I completely forgot all about John Hawkes' character in WB.. I'd take out that bottom 2 and put in Andrew Garfield for sure, he was completely robbed off a nomination! It's a shame he had to wait six more years to finally get his first nomination Probably Pete Postlethwaite as the final nom as he was good but he wasn't really that special. |
