BuzzJack Music Forum _ R&B and Hip-Hop _ Tinashe - Nightride

OMFG at this new snippet, sounds like the Tinashe I have been waiting for this entire era, please don't let me down.

Apparently she gave one of her fans an iPod at a meet and greet which had the album on it and he put up pictures with #NIGHTR1DE attached. Some rumours saying it's not 'Joyride' with a new name but infact a new mixtape dropping this Friday. Going to keep all in here until we know what's going on but something is in the works.

Posted by: HausofHorrors 1st November 2016, 09:29 PM

Do we know what the headshots/ visuals are that she's posted on her instagram? The distorted one becoming more clear? Would make for a striking album / single cover ohmy.gif

She posted this yesterday. I see a number 3... 3 days?!

^ lol yeah that. Good timing Cameron wink.gif

http://www.breatheheavy.com/tinashe-reportedly-dropping-new-mixtape-titled-nightride-tonight/

It's apparently a mixtape

Posted by: Davidson 1st November 2016, 09:32 PM

Yeah, it is stunning and so is the snippet.

I definitely feel like we are getting something this week, whether it be a single, the album or mixtape. Too much cryptic social media going on.

Posted by: Cremey 1st November 2016, 10:33 PM

Have been loving these headshots she's been posting, wondered what they were about!
So ready for some new Tinashe. Really hope she fully brings it this time, haven't loved anything since 'Party Favors'.

Posted by: HausofHorrors 2nd November 2016, 06:46 AM

'Player' (Inc. Jai Wolf remix of it) is second only to '2 On' in terms of Tinashe material for me. Nothing else post-Aquarius has captured the love I had for her during that era.

Posted by: Doctor Blind 2nd November 2016, 01:25 PM

“Player” minus the utterly pointless Chris Brown feature, agreed.

Posted by: Davidson 3rd November 2016, 01:10 AM

1. Lucid Dreaming
2. C'est La Vie
3. Sunburn
4. Binaural Test
5. Sacrifice
6. Company
7. Soul Glitch
8. You Don't Know Me
9. Spacetime
10. High Speed Chase (Interlude)
11. Ride Of Your Life
12. Party Favors
13. You Can Stay Here Tonight (Interlude)
14. Touch Pass
15. Ghetto Boy

Probably coming later today. So excited!!

Posted by: Davidson 3rd November 2016, 02:10 AM

Looks like 'NIGHTR1DE' is gonna be the dark R&B mixtape with 'Joyride' as the poppy album with songs like 'Superlove', 'No Contest', 'Coldish', 'Prisoner', 'Not For Nothing', 'Butterflies', 'Fire & Flames' and 'Stay The Night' still on there.

Posted by: Cameron 3rd November 2016, 11:58 AM

I hope that Joyride is still happening. I do see all of the more R&B tracks such as Party Favors and Ride of Your life on this. Excited anyway! If it is true I do like how the use of 'Joy' and 'Night' will distinguish the difference between her darker and more poppy songs

Posted by: Davidson 3rd November 2016, 12:28 PM

So excited to finally get 'Ghetto Boy'. Surely a song written by Tinashe & Nicola Roberts and produced by Devonte Hynes is going to end my life cry.gif

Posted by: ML Hammer95 3rd November 2016, 04:33 PM

My problem with Tinashe is she comes across to try-hard, especially her music videos. There's obviously star potential there, but her label are pushing it too much judging by the number of features she's doing right now.

The best R&B songs are effortlessly sexy and Tinashe nailed this with 2 On. Great vocals, great production (using the on-trend DJ Mustard) and a decent video. That's why 2 On is still played in clubs every weekend despite it being nearly 3 years old now. All Hands On Deck is similar, but not quite as popular and the video didn't quite work as well. Then, the Player song was a step-backwards I feel. Correct choice in feature but totally the wrong sound (I actually do like the song, but it's not what was needed). Superlove was the most mediocre too, so there's almost diminishing returns with Tinashe. I feel she needs on-trend production and a little more subtlety. I think she should continue trying to make a crossover R&B-club song though. 2 On was much more successful and popular than the charts suggest.

For those who say she needs a UK breakthrough hit, what was All My Friends? Apparently, she's on the next Tinie Tempah single which should be a guaranteed chart hit but what happens after?

Posted by: Davidson 3rd November 2016, 06:37 PM

Official conformation from T that this is coming at midnight American time. So just over 8 hours dance.gif

Posted by: Cremey 3rd November 2016, 07:54 PM

Cannot WAIT for this. So good to see her being able to release something, even if it isn't an album.
Still absolutely adore 'Party Favors' so I'm glad that's on this.

Really like the artwork but it's a bit disappointing after all the amazing photos she's been tweeting recently. Think I'll use one of those instead.

'Aquarius' remains one of the best albums this century, one of my all-time favourites.

And 'Ghetto Boy' YES! So excited.

Jokes on you m8. 'All Hands On Deck' is one of the best videos of the last couple of years!! ohmy.gif tongue.gif

Excited for this. Please pull through! Although I really dont mind 'Super Love' but I appreciate that it might not necessarily be what people want or expect from her.

Posted by: Cremey 3rd November 2016, 09:21 PM

Yeah the 'All Hands on Deck' video is her best.
I really don't see her as try-hard either...if anything, she comes across as being effortlessly great! She has been featured on a lot of tracks but I think it's a good way to get her name out there while she's still trying to cement herself as a prominent name in the industry.

Posted by: Draper 3rd November 2016, 09:23 PM

w00t.gif w00t.gif w00t.gif OMG, so glad she's continuing to release self-made mixtapes. Amethyst/Black Water was gawjuss. You just know RCA are pulling all the stops for poppier sounds on Joyride but T knows what the fans want! #NIGHTRIDE yeah!

Posted by: Cremey 4th November 2016, 09:01 AM

Haven't listened to this in full yet but 'Soul Glitch' is PERFECT. Exactly the sort of thing I'm after 😍🙌🏼

Posted by: Davidson 4th November 2016, 10:13 AM

Listening just now and I'm so happy she still has this in her.

Only on 5th track but 'Sacrifice' absolutely shits on everything she's released since 'Aquarius'. YES.

Posted by: Davidson 4th November 2016, 10:46 AM

f*** yes at the entire thing.

If this is being classed as a mixtape (rather than a dual album release) I think it's her best mixtape yet. 'Sunburn' is the only track that I am not completely in love with.

Let me have 'Sacrifices', 'Soul Glitch', 'Spacetime', 'Touch Pass' and 'Ghetto Boy' on repeat until the year is out. Actually scrap that. Let me just have every track on repeat.

Posted by: Jonjo 4th November 2016, 11:25 AM

I really hope this is gonna be released in a 2CD deluxe edition of 'Joyride' or something! It's so good! wub.gif Definitely her more commercial friendly mixtape to date!

Posted by: Cameron 4th November 2016, 11:40 AM

Spacetime, Sacrifices, Touch Pass and Ghetto Boy are all JAMS *.*

Posted by: Jonjo 4th November 2016, 11:42 AM

'Ghetto Boy' is indeed amazing. My firm favourite I think!

Posted by: Davidson 4th November 2016, 12:48 PM

I've never been big on either 'Company' or 'Ride Of Your Life' but in the context of the album they are fire.

She really knew what she was doing with this. This is really is a statement for all those (including me) who thought she was somewhat slipping. No, she's still the hottest and most promising new R&B girl.

Posted by: Totto 4th November 2016, 12:49 PM

Just started. Waited aaages for Touch Pass!

Posted by: Totto 4th November 2016, 01:31 PM

My pussy exploded, I'm done.

Posted by: Jonjo 4th November 2016, 06:34 PM

The whole thing is on her youtube channel. 'Ghetto Boy' is seriously the best thing and most Tinashe since 'Aquarius', for sure!! I am slain by that.

Posted by: Cremey 4th November 2016, 06:43 PM

I think 'Ghetto Boy' is one of the least Tinashe songs on there! Ha.
+ is that Nicola singing backing vocals in the chorus?

Loving this all so much, had it on repeat all day.
'Soul Glitch' is up there with my favourites of hers already – the 'even when the sky turns cold, as my eyes get low' melody is heavenly. ❤️

Posted by: Cremey 4th November 2016, 11:01 PM

Also, the Company outro... 🔥🔥🔥

Posted by: Davidson 4th November 2016, 11:24 PM

Can for sure hear Nicola heavily in the chorus of 'Ghetto Boy'.

I can't help but feel that the singles they should have picked should have been 'Sacrifices', 'Touch Pass' and 'Ghetto Boy'. I feel like 'Sacrifices' almost sounds like it could, with the right push, have cross-over potential if they added a rap feature to it or something. Get Kendrick or Chance on that and your sorted.

Posted by: Cremey 6th November 2016, 10:48 AM

Have only just got around to watching this:

Seriously WOW. This whole project is insanely good. Wish the song from the video was on the mixtape though!
Totally agree with you about getting the singles wrong. They've all grown on me massively within the context of the rest though. Shame to not see 'Energy' on there as I think it would fit well! I can imagine Future on a 'Sacrifices' remix the most, but that's probably just down to the Metro Boomin association, haha.

Posted by: Cameron 7th November 2016, 08:58 PM

Ugh this is so good.

Is it only me who always get's winter vibes when listening to Tinashe's album?

Posted by: HausofHorrors 12th November 2016, 01:54 PM

Ghetto Boy wub.gif sob.gif

Posted by: HausofHorrors 14th November 2016, 05:56 PM

Posting again for added effect and because I am entranced by it:

Ghetto Boy wub.gif sob.gif

Posted by: Davidson 14th November 2016, 06:03 PM

Ghetto Boy is definitely my stand out too.

Still can't get enough of C'est La Vie, Sacrifices, Soul Glitch and Touch Pass too.

Those 5 make the wait soooo worth it wub.gif

Posted by: Cremey 16th November 2016, 10:34 PM

My top 5 at the moment would be:
01 Sacrifices
02 Ride of Your Life (just HOW did I not appreciate this fully before?!)
03 C'est La Vie
04 Soul Glitch
05 Ghetto Boy

In my top 5 albums/mixtapes of the year for sure. And this year has been really strong!

Posted by: Davidson 19th November 2016, 01:18 PM

Nice little 7.8 from Pitchfork, happy with that seeing as they only gave Aquarius a 7.5.

The reviewer claiming that the "music is more interesting than the artist singing" though. Unnecessary and rude as hell.

Savage laugh.gif he's right though.

Posted by: Cremey 20th November 2016, 12:06 PM

Yeah I read that review and thought the same! 😡
Anyway, this is more like a 9.8 (although 7.8 from P4K is pretty great)

Pretty sure it's my second favourite of the year after 'A Seat at the Table'.

Posted by: Cremey 10th January 2017, 10:51 PM

No one can match her right now for her music video choreography!
So much energy and skill, she's undeniable.

Still absolutely loving the whole mixtape – Sacrifices, Ride of Your Life, Company and C'est la Vie are TOO good 😍
I didn't do a year end chart, but the first two definitely would've been top 10.

Posted by: Jonjo 10th January 2017, 11:57 PM

Video of the year!! (Yeah, we're not even 2 weeks in yet, but still)

Posted by: Davidson 20th February 2017, 06:19 PM

She keeps on posting random video snippets on Insta. I thought they were for Ghetto Boy video at first but there are rumours out there that we are getting a full length film.

Are we getting 2017's version of Lemonade???

Posted by: Jonjo 11th June 2020, 02:27 AM

Listened to this earlier today and it STILL SLAPS SO HARD!

I'm gutted there isn't a physical release of this in the UK </3
