MP Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown has been ordered to go home by the party after being involved in a punch-up with security after he forgot his pass and wasn't allowed in to the conference. Armed police rushed over fearing a terrorist attack.
According to parliamentary sketch writer John Crace, the MP is now being held by police. He wrote on Twitter: ‘The treasurer of the 1922 committee, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, has been held by police after an incident in the International Lounge at the Tory party conference." Latest is he's been released without charge and told to go home but is reportedly not happy. Surely tight security is there for a purpose. They didn't know who he was. He wasn't a well-known face and had no security badge. Fighting with security is disgraceful. What kind of message does it show? Hope the public don't begin to think the Tories are just a bunch of thugs. This post has been edited by Common Sense: Oct 1 2019, 03:25 PM |

Even if he was better known, it would be no excuse. Everyone attending a party conference has to have a pass with a photo. Those rules apply to everybody. Many years ago, Paddy Ashdown was denied entry to the Lib Dem conference because he didn't have his pass. In his case, he laughed about it and went back to get it.

Just shows the disco citizens posh snob entitelement the Tories have. They are the lords and masters and the rest of us are plebs forced to flee from their very presence.
Remember the thug who forced the climate protestor out violently? The protrstor wearing a floral summery slip? He grunted about her "ruining ma dinnah!" like a neanderthal. They're just cowardly thugs. |

I guess thank Christ the Home Secretary today has promised to "come after the thugs, gangs, and criminals who make law-abiding people's lives a misery". I feel reassured he'll be dealt with accordingly.

Not surprised the cops were on him quick, I think every Cop in Greater Manchester is within a 50 metre radius of GMEX. Great couple of days to commit a crime.
Not that GMP actually investigate crimes anymore thanks to the Tories gutting their ranks. Still enough to flood the city centre tho. Feel so safe with all the openly carrying armed cops about (not) |

I doubt anyone will base their opinion on the whole Tory party, on just one incident (with the exception of AQ, of course). |

Well hopefully they won't as there's good and bad everywhere. He may have been stressed. We all get those days.
