BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: Mart!n 15th October 2016, 10:39 AM

James Arthur looks set to make it a month at #1 after increasing to over 100k last week, whilst new entries to the chart should include Maroon 5's 'Don't Wanna Know' (feat. Kendrick Lamar), The Vamps & Matoma's 'All Night' and Little Mix's 'Shout Out to My Ex' (the latter released on Sunday following their performance on the X Factor Results Show). The likes of Hailee Steinfeld & Grey's 'Starving' (feat. Zedd) and NEIKED's 'Sexual' (feat. Dyo) should also continue climbing the Top 40.

Kings of Leon seem set to reach #1 with a fifth consecutive studio album, WALLS, leading a collection of new entries from the likes of Tom Chaplin (lead of Keane), Rebecca Ferguson, Two Door Cinema Club, Katie Melua, Phil Collins, Beth Hart and Blackberry Smoke. Oasis should re-enter with Be Here Now following the release of a deluxe box set featuring re-mastered bonus content.

The entire album top 10 next week is likely to be new entries again. There are no debut albums there.

Posted by: liamk97 15th October 2016, 10:53 AM

These artists all have albums in the Amazon Top 10 new releases: Beth Hart, Blackberry Smoke, Katie Melua, Kings of Leon, Oasis (re-release), Phil Collins, Pink Floyd (re-release), Rebecca Ferguson, Tom Chaplin and Two Door Cinema Club. Just to give an indication as to what the new entries to the Top 10 are, according to what Mint Royale tweeted.

Edit: In fact, Mint Royale has just revealed this: https://twitter.com/MintRoyale/status/787240724723105793

This is what I've worked out, but I don't know what Mint is basing the album tallies on (studio albums? all albums? Top 40 albums?). I can't work out where Phil Collins or Pink Floyd should be.

1 Kings of Leon
2 Tom Chaplin
3 Oasis
4 Two Door Cinema Club
5 Beth Hart
6 Blackberry Smoke
7 Rebecca Ferguson
8 Katie Melua

12 Green Day

Posted by: timjimlee 15th October 2016, 11:08 AM

Mint Royale does make a good point re Debut Albums - Tom Chaplin's Album will, however, still be classified as a Debut Album despite his Keane past.
Should be an easy number 1 for Kings of Leon, the race for number 2 a bit more unpredictable.

Posted by: girl_from_oz 15th October 2016, 11:40 AM

Alongside those 8 albums mentioned above, Phil Collins should be in top ten along with maybe Hillsong Worship who are doing well on ITunes, The Pink Floyd album isn't out to November

Posted by: No Sleeep 15th October 2016, 01:08 PM

I hope JoJo can at least make top 40

Hillsong Worship apparently!

Posted by: timjimlee 15th October 2016, 03:06 PM

Number 11 must be Barry Gibb then ? (22 Beegees Albums + 2 solo Albums)

A little Surprised Bob Dylan did not get a boost into the Top 40 after publicity of his Nobel Prize win.

Suspect we may have to wait a while longer for that fun fact. For someone that has all ready Released at least 10 Live Albums the new Albums will probably only get to the lower reaches of Top 100 (sales are low at moment but given the number of new Albums getting Released each week they will struggle to make any impact).

I assume he's referring to debut albums - making roughly the same point as the one I made in Friday's commentary. We are getting lots of new albums in the chart, but they are from established artists.

Posted by: Mart!n 17th October 2016, 02:25 PM

Looks like Oasis could take #2 who wants a repackaged album drama.gif, at least KoL have a sizeable lead, 55k is probably doable for the week.

Little Mix are probably looking at a top 3 finish and chasing for the #1 next week, they are just over 10k, not bad for 4 hours. biggrin.gif

Considering their lead on iTunes, I'll be surprised if Little Mix aren't #1. That lead might make up for what they lack in streaming (although I'm sure they'll add on a fair amount in that medium as well).

Posted by: ★Rob S~ 17th October 2016, 02:46 PM

That's excellent!

With their current lead on iTunes they should be able to get to #4 or #5 by the end of the week. Whether they get to #2 or #3 will depend on how fast their lead on iTunes decreases (which won't start until later today I believe) and how quickly their streaming builds up (looks like quickly after entering #54 with ~4 hours yesterday).

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 17th October 2016, 03:53 PM

I expected her to be 3-4 and then drop off in the week but she's already at a low position. She might not even be Top 10 at this rate!

She'll be safe for Top 10 I reckon. She's over the 5k mark and outsold three of the albums above her yesterday.

Posted by: JosephStyles 17th October 2016, 04:01 PM

Rebecca won't have any problems staying top 10, she might even climb from the mids!

The Vamps' position in the top 40 singles is less secure, it's hard to tell really but I expect they'll just miss out unfortunately.

Physical pre-order begins tomorrow and is out 4th November! So there's a short while yet, seems they're hoping this will happen on its own (not a bad move after how Wake Up fared after the physicals were released in week 1 drama.gif)

Tom looking set for a top 3 debut *.* really happy, album of the year tbh, he delivered such a stunning album.

Posted by: Yorkie3 17th October 2016, 04:58 PM

James Arthur had just under half of his chart sales last week from pure sales - therefore although Little Mix have knocked him down to 0.3 on iTunes he's probably still selling only a little slower than them in total. They'll need to keep their current lead all week plus make large gains on streaming before Friday to have a hope of #1 this week... Hope that happens though, it's nice having a song debut at the top occasionally!

Posted by: Hadji 17th October 2016, 05:00 PM

LM would have definitely got #1 this Friday had they released last Friday. Oh well, they should definitely go #1 next week. Chart would look fresher if "Crank It" and "Controlla" switched places

Posted by: timjimlee 17th October 2016, 05:18 PM

Interesting to see "Skylarking" reissue by XTC appear at number 98 in the Album Chart update.
Originally peaked at number 90 30 years ago so unlikely to improve on that...

Seeing the Album in the chart update reminds me of the 3 singles from the Album that made it into the chart: "Grass" got to number 100, "The Meeting Place" also got to number 100 and third single "Dear God" (which was previously B-Side to "Grass") got to 99. There's a level of consistency (admittedly with low sales) rarely seen...

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 17th October 2016, 05:23 PM

Crank It at #41. I desparately want this to go Top 40 (and Controlla to not)

I dont like the new Vamps single at all, its extremely forgettable. I would be delighted if Katie Melia can hold her album top 10 position but i would believe it will be touch and go.

Ideally Little Mix will go number 1 with Shout Out To My Ex but its probably unlikely this week despite getting off to an extremely strong start, i will be very disappointed if they dont end the week top 3.

Posted by: nettoron 17th October 2016, 07:22 PM

Thanks guys! Hats off to Little Mix if they do it. This campaign has started perfectly from them. Wonder if they could get their first #1 album too..I'm sure that is a main aim for them now. Of course this will be really tough with so many big albums coming out next month!

Definitely. Even though he didn't, I feel like James Arthur went straight in at #1 because the song just blew up from nowhere so quickly!

Posted by: Hadji 18th October 2016, 10:30 AM

Would be a miracle if LM go straight to #1 on Friday as it's unlikely that a song can go #1 these days with only 5 days of sales. They'll definitely go #1 next week though

At the moment James has got the streaming edge over Little Mix, its still going to be close, they need that #1 on spotify with a good sizeable lead but killing it on downloads I'm assuming. 2016 has been full of surprises, who would have thought James Arthur would get #1, and Drake staying on top forever. laugh.gif

Posted by: PeaceMob 18th October 2016, 12:27 PM

Little Mix's popularity just seem to get bigger and bigger with every album campaign which is pretty impressive, I think they might just debut at No 1, I thought James Arthur's song was gonna be number 1 for at least 5 weeks so I'm glad that doesn't look like that's happening.

Posted by: Jamesy 18th October 2016, 12:55 PM

I really really hope they debut at number 1. One because they deserve it and two because I can't abide James Arthur.

Posted by: Hadji 18th October 2016, 02:12 PM

It could be the first time than an X Factor winner gets knocked off the top by another X Factor winner. Not counting Alexandra Burke's winning single knocking Leona Lewis off #1 in 2008

Posted by: Envoirment 18th October 2016, 02:36 PM

Wow! Looks like Little Mix should get to #1 this week then - their lead on iTunes has continued to increase and their streaming is off to a massive start. Video being out friday should mean it could have a few weeks at #1.

Little Mix are EASILY coming for #1 this week it seems! Sold double James yesterday.

The Vamps couuuld make top 40 still, they're selling consistently day to day and are a fair bit ahead of Drake at #40 right now but it could be touch and go.

Most already have this year - Rihanna, GaGa, Beyonce, Ariana, Bruno... 2016 just isn't the year for pop domination it seems. There's Taylor Swift potentially but I don't care too much about her music. What's Miley doing, come to think of it? Her last big pop era was three years ago and the last I read about her was her Dead Petz. laugh.gif

Sorry for being a pain but where are OneRepublic?

Posted by: timjimlee 19th October 2016, 04:18 PM

A little surprising to see Phil Collins up to number 2 in the Album update, he was on "The One Show" on Monday night which has seemingly given him a substantial boost, bodes well for Little Mix tonight.

Shame Tom Chaplin is down to 4 (overtaken by Oasis as well)

Either way it is quite tragic that it won't even be outpeaking 'I Found A Girl', despite it being a lot better than both that and 'Wake Up'.

It's not really comparable to either though when they both had 2 or 3 physicals available in those weeks, this one won't until a later date heehee.gif they seem to be hoping it can climb up like most OA/OS releases do and I think it can providing the airplay increases, early signs are promising!

True. However the (transactional) album sales market has fallen by about 15-20% since then. So 50k isn't much of a decline!

Posted by: Steve201 19th October 2016, 07:50 PM

They sold steadily most of the week to - impressive from KOL considering they are getting less support now commercially!

Little Mix closing the gap at a fast rate, i just hope they can go number 1,first time in ages i have been excited about the singles chart and really rooting for someone to go number 1.

Im happy to see Phil Collins climb to number 2, the album is doing very well considering he already has a very successful Greatest Hits that often re-enter the chart.

Wow at Little Mix! We rarely see a song coming in at #1 these days, very impressive.

Little Mix have only gone and done it, they're just 630 copies ahead of James Arthur but are selling quicker so will stay there for no. 1.

A triumph of good, unpretentious pop. Well done etc.

Posted by: Hadji 20th October 2016, 11:10 AM

Let's hope they do

Posted by: BrookeOlivia 20th October 2016, 11:15 AM

So tomorrow they should be a few thousand ahead if they closed a 5k gap from yesterday well over 5k if there over 600 ahead, Amazing for them after missing 3 days of streaming / sales.

Still have over a 60% lead on iTunes aswell and the video drops tomorrow should give it a little boost plus there on stand up to cancer which am guessing they will perform on, Looks like they have #1 for a few weeks yet. Possibly be #1 on Spotify tomorrow too there only 5k behind james on steaming.

can we give Little Mix a Chart Saviours title now? *.* Lolbye James Arthur.

It's fair enough if pure pop is not your type of music, but if you like Ugly Heart, surely it's the same "manufactured and commercail" genre as Shout Out To My Ex?

Don't you think that era was as big as it was due to Cheryl being a judge on x factor though? It was her first season as judge and had performance was a lot hype around her back then.

Not taken credit away from girls aloud of course brilliant group just with you saying it was there biggest era and things smile.gif

Maybe im letting my own views on the Promise get in the way - just thought it was their biggest track and most mature sounding track which was played on both radio 1 & 2 etc - then they basically retired after it.

I don't think Sunday will help artists climb faster, I just think it's a special case with Little Mix because they've become one of the UK's biggest acts.

Difference being that LM had a huge XF premiere (the song prem'd with the performance) to do this with. Syco got the hype BANG ON with this. I don't think I'd seen so much hype for a single XF performance before? Risky strategy especially with XF not coming close to their peak lately and streaming impacting the chart as much as it does now. But it was perfectly handled. I reckon Simon might start thinking about keeping big "exclusives" from his artists for his show now. Although I think LM are the only ones who would pull it off successfully! Fifth Harmony would come close, but I'm not 100% confident that the public are as into them as they are with Little Mix.

The answer is the public are nowhere near into Fitth Harmony as they are Little Mix. An exclusive with them wouldn't work at all.

Harry Styles could premiere his debut single on The X Factor and make it work, that's if he's ready to release something this year.

Posted by: scratchy23 20th October 2016, 09:14 PM

Don't forget we're still yet to hear Louisa's single. I reckon she'll debut it on XF this year then release the album around March/April time. They won't give her a Q4 album release now it's so late in the year (and good idea not to, it wouldn't even make top 20 in the busy Christmas album charts)

It is obvious all of them want to untie their image from The X Factor/1D. They all ran away from Syco.

^ he's finished the acting! I believe he's not releasing his album until.next year but no-one really knows about the lead single. He's signed to Sony but not to Syco, so he could still perform on XF if he has a song out in time I guess.

Still the biggest injustice in pop to this date. It was almost as if they won the Brit Award and thought "that's it - we are done." (Even if some of them were already moving on by that point - Nadine and (especially) Cheryl, I am looking at you teresa.gif )
