I'm still surprised it's hung around for so long though. Surely the kids must get bored of it eventually and move on to the next cool new thing.

At least they've been more dignified than Crazy Frog and spared us a dozen follow up singles.

There are *loads* of follow-up singles and albums for Baby Shark! Just none of them have taken off in the same way as the original, but rack up millions of views on YouTube

QUOTE(jimwatts @ Mar 1 2021, 01:59 PM) *
'willow' peaking as low as #17 is one of the most surprising markdowns by removing ACR of recent times, even after remembering when it was released.

I've lost count of how many weeks Blinding Lights would have had in the top 10 by now, but it must be getting somewhere near the 51 managed by Someone You Loved (going by Joseph's post earlier in this thread).

Yes Willow's peak with and without really does make a good case for ACR on Christmas songs.

I actually only count 41 weeks for Blinding Lights under my estimates. It was knocked out of the top 10 as early as September, which makes its sustained 2nd wind in the top 10 this year all the more remarkable.

I still remain bitterly disappointed to this day that the album wasn't a concept album based on baby shark's journey to adulthood. sad.gif

Update for week ending 18/3:

Blinding Lights would be ending its run in the Top 10, maybe or maybe not for good, which totalled 42 weeks. That’s trounced Dance Monkey’s 35 but hasn’t threatened Someone You Loved’s 51. I make it 105 weeks in the Top 40 in total for the latter now!

This is also the first time since 2019 that this Top 10 and the official one have matched. Enjoy it as it clearly won’t last.

For anyone interested in the YTD singles, Wellerman is making big gains and I believe is now up to #4 behind DL, WY and BL.

1 1 Drivers license (1)

Think by now it's safe to say 'drivers license' is the first 8+ week #1 of the ACR era not to lose any further weeks at #1 because of it.

I don’t like the idea of Number 1 runs being curtailed by ACR generally - maybe they should add a rule that a song can’t move from SCR to ACR when it’s at its peak position.

Update for week ending 8 April:

Tom Grennan would be missing the top 10. Someone You Loved looks like it will drop out of the top 40 “normally” for the first time next week - not because of Christmas songs or a big album drop.

I make that 107 weeks in this top 40 for Someone You Loved? Over two years' worth anyway. Although, as with its consecutive weeks records in the official chart, there's every chance that Blinding Lights will outdo that.

There's every chance Save Your Tears will improve on its unofficial #13 peak next week. It should overtake Blinding Lights for the first time anyway!

Update for week ending 6 May:

Levitating would have had a re-set if its boost had come entirely within one week instead of being spread over several.

#11 official vs #5 true peak is unprecedented and pretty savage for Save Your Tears, but perhaps it will partly remedy that next week.

1 1 Montero (1)
2 2 Peaches (2)
3 3 Bed (3)
4 17 Body (4)
5 28 Save your tears (5)
6 5 Friday (5)
7 11 Kiss me more (7)
8 4 Rapstar (3)
9 7 Little bit of love (7)
10 9 Levitating (9)

Levitating reaching its peak without ACR in its 32nd consecutive week in the chart may well have been unprecedented. The only song to peak later in a continuous official chart run (going by fchd's list last week) is Portugal The Man - Feel It Still which peaked in its 33rd (all of those on SCR), however if ACR hadn't existed it surely would have had that run broken by Christmas songs when it fell to #89 officially.

If the 3-track rule didn't exist either, a few other songs might have had a similarly long continuous chart run to their peak. Bruises and Watermelon Sugar spring to mind, but perhaps none would have matched some of The Greatest Showman tracks, most likely The Greatest Show and A Million Dreams which I'd estimate to have peaked around #14 and #19 in January 2019 (while #25 and #30 officially), a full year after they'd have first charted. As the latter didn't reach the Top 20 officially, it could also claim to be the most significant casualty of ACR which had nothing to do with the 3-track rule or 3-year rule at the time - and reclaim it this week now that Save Your Tears is officially a Top 5 hit.

Following my previous message, I checked the Audio Streaming chart runs of the songs I mentioned and a few others. By my reckoning, Levitating has reached its peak in a record 32nd consecutive week in the top 75, beating the 30 weeks Bruises took to get there, although a few songs had longer unbroken runs in the top 100 before peaking, with The Greatest Show doing so in a record 53rd week:

The Greatest Show: 53 weeks (w/e 11/1/18 - 10/1/19)
84-34-28-27-26-25-26-26-31-31-25-30-35-30-27-37-64-53-54-52-36-32-41-40-45-54-75-70-59-50-54-66-54-64-54-71-70-69-69-74-70-70-75-73-70-73-65-72-80-55-59-67-14

A Million Dreams: 52 weeks (w/e 18/1/18 - 10/1/19)
47-40-37-35-34-36-34-36-36-34-40-41-41-39-50-83-63-69-69-52-49-57-54-57-67-81-81-68-55-59-77-61-78-67-82-84-82-85-89-84-86-88-81-80-81-74-80-92-71-66-77-20

Perfect: 40 weeks (w/e 16/3/17 - 14/12/17)
5-5-7-9-15-20-25-30-33-36-41-46-54-57-62-65-56-58-57-58-68-57-61-64-68-72-74-70-81-42-24-22-20-18-13-11-6-8-7-1

Levitating: 32 weeks (w/e 15/10/20 - 20/5/21)
55-32-23-22-16-14-11-13-33-39-42-55-51-12-14-13-14-19-21-23-21-19-23-20-21-17-13-14-8-9-8-4

Bruises: 32 weeks (w/e 25/4/19 - 28/11/19)
92-97-74-51-57-11-16-15-15-17-30-34-36-51-53-55-57-51-48-66-59-68-63-57-18-24-21-12-15-11-10-7

In this combined chart with no ACR or 3-track rule, I think each of Levitating, Perfect and The Greatest Show would have stayed in the top 75 throughout the same weeks. The latter would have been joined by A Million Dreams and perhaps also Never Enough, which peaked on audio streaming (#33; I'd estimate low top 30 combined) in the same week as those two, in peaking in their 53rd consecutive week in the old rules top 100.
