Thermo's hot hits | EOY 2020  Previous threads 2010–2019 2019 | 2018 | 2017 | 2016 | 2015 | 2014 | 2013 | 2012 | 2011 | 2010 Merry Listmas!  as per the last few years, the chart year is from December-November so that I'm not still here in February counting down tracks, and this year I want to try and have at least most of it all done before January too, last year's took way too long. the top 250 songs based on chart points and playcount of the past 12 months will be counted down starting in December. Until then there'll be a brief reflection on the worst songs of the year, and the best in albums, film and TV (however little there was of it this year). but before anything though, let's take a look at last year's top ten singles. 01 Avicii ~ Heaven (feat. Goodboys) 09 Lika Morgan ~ In Motion 10 Croatia Squad ~ Ven Pa Ca it was Avicii who claimed the year's top selling single with posthumous release 'Heaven'. It broke the record for most weeks spent at #1, spending 15 unbroken weeks there throughout all of summer. he also had the album of the year with 'Tim'. could he top the list once again in 2020? |

Album of the Year Contender: CamelPhat – Dark Matter
 I'm going to break tradition and begin the thread on a positive note this year, starting with my favourite albums of the year. We start with the long-awaited debut album from CamelPhat, an era which began way back in 2017 when 'Cola' became one of the decade's biggest club records and ended up being a commercial crossover smash. 'Panic Room' and 'Breathe' followed it with all three being amongst my absolute faves of the decade. They haven't been able to make anything on that insane quality level since but it is a very solid album, with all of its tracks having made my personal chart excluding the interlude. 'Hypercolour' will be making an appearance in the EOY singles chart, with 'Not Over Yet' and 'Easier' being highlights of the previously unheard material being instant single material. 'Carry Me Away' is also a beauty of a track, a bit more laidback for them but I love it. The album is a great mix of house and electronic dance and it proves themselves to be at the top of their genre. Album of the Year Contender: Craig Connelly – A Sharper Edge
 Now a name you're probably unfamiliar with, unless you were in Club Bizarre when I sent 'Run Away'. Craig Connelly specialises in uplifting trance music which sadly is a very underrated genre these days, not getting a whole lot of streams/attention. This album was one of the surprise hits of the year for me as I didn't consider myself a fan of his before but after putting out a great trance anthem in 'Time Machine' I gave the album a listen. Very reminiscent of classic trance if you're into that sort of thing. The opening track 'Sonic Grey' is another standout with its orchestral intro, then the tracks I charted between 41-50 are all great vocal trance tracks. Some decent songs on the Camelphat album although can't say I've heard it in full. Cola, Be Someone, Hypercolour and Not Over Yet are probably my favourites so good to see three of those made your Top 10!

I think you'd like most of the album, although I'd recommend listening to it in two sessions, as it is an incredibly long album at 90 minutes. Or at least check out the tracks I charted in my top 40

Album of the Year Contender: Disclosure – Energy
 Disclosure finally at long last released their third album 'Energy' following a five-year wait (although we did get some EPs in the meantime - the most recent of which was tacked on to this album's deluxe version so this really is an entry for the album/'Ecstasy' EP combined). Sadly it wasn't quite as good as their first two albums for me but still provided us with some great tunes with them keeping to their brand of garage/house that they do so well. 'Douha' is a big standout from the main album, which will be in the singles top 100. The best of the rest are 'My High' and 'Watch Your Step' which I'm getting back into now with it being the next single (and it is great to hear Kelis on a track again). 'Tondo' was the highlight of the EP which will also be in the top 100 alongside Khalid collab 'Know Your Worth'. Overall, another good year for Disclosure - and this project has helped cement their place in my all-time top 10 most played (currently in 5th). Album of the Year Contender: Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia
.png) As I'm sure you're all aware I am mostly a fan of dance music and that will be making up the vast majority of the thread inclusions here, however Dua Lipa has become one of my faves as well with her 2nd album Future Nostalgia. Minus the final two tracks on the standard album, it is full of great pop and I really enjoyed the disco influence in it too - especially the early 00s disco house throwback of Hallucinate which we'll get to in the singles top 100, alongside her rightfully massive leadoff single Don't Start Now. In a chart landscape that I'm growing increasingly away from due to what I'll call "TikTok pop" and rap that I generally don't care for, having a popstar like Dua is much needed and she really proved herself with this record. Dua is now in 6th place in my list of most played female singers of all time, sure to overtake Ellie Goulding by this time next year. Some great albums here. I really enjoyed finally hearing a whole album from Camelphat, with 'Panic Room' being my favourite.
Also nice to see Future Nostalgia make the cut. Easily one of my favourite albums of this year (although I agree without you about the last two tracks  ).Excited to see how your EOY charts turns out! |

It was great to see the CamelPhat album finally materialise (and not get delayed even further as I feared), certainly a strong debut.
I get the feeling Future Nostalgia will be in the list of most people's favourite albums here, Dua Lipa really is tailor made for Buzzjack's taste (as is another album yet to appear in my top 10 - unranked by the way except for my Fave which I'll reveal at the end). |

Album of the Year Contender: Duke Dumont – Duality
 Another long-awaited album to follow CamelPhat's – Duke Dumont had been in the mainstream since 2013 but as we all know, it can take years and years for an album to actually materialise from a dance act, if one ever comes. Well 2020 finally gave us 'Duality', long after Duke Dumont stopped chasing chart hits so it is a different album to what I would've expected a few years back, although 'Ocean Drive' did get included for being his biggest world hit and actually fitting well on the album. Although I don't love anything here as much as most of his old hits, it's a good effort of an album. He's certainly evolved as a producer and it's refreshing to see, just a shame it means he can't get hits anymore as the GP only seem to lap up the basic house bops. 'Therapy' and 'Nightcrawler' will be making appearances in the singles top 250, with 'The Power' having done so last year. Album of the Year Contender: Grum – Deep State
 Now, this album actually is just over a year old, and apparently delayed for a year too, although it didn't appear on my radar until 2020, so I'll count it. Grum fell off my radar for quite a few years but recently went through a rebrand, now making great techno-inspired progressive trance. It's all very well produced with dark synths and big drops running throughout the album. I really haven't given the album as many listens as I should but it deserves a spot in my Top 10 nonetheless. The two big highlights here are 'Afterglow' and 'Tomorrow', which will both be seen in the top 100 singles chart. Album of the Year Contender: Kygo – Golden Hour
 Oh Kygo, how you've been very hit-and-miss. Honestly though, there is enough material on this album that's good enough to warrant a place here (particularly as I don't listen to a whole lot of albums anyway), although there's more filler than on the other albums in my list. And that's even without the two misguided attempts at recreating 'Higher Love' that followed afterwards. Kygo sure does know how to make a good dance-pop tune when he wants to though. Nothing here comes close to beating the aforementioned Whitney remix, but 'Like It Is' whilst fairly standard for him is a rather good tune (and gave Zara a much needed hit), and having some Avicii inspired material on the album was great to see as well (particularly 'Beautiful'). I think Disclosure's album is underrated personally, I'd put it about on par with their debut (with 'Caracal' a bit of a step down from both but still solid). There's only really one dud on the tracklist for me ('Birthday', I guess also 'Talk' if you include that but I see it as more of a bonus track / tacked on for the streaming figures) and I'd put 'Douha (Mali Mali)' and 'Who Knew?' (and 'Tondo') up there with their very best songs to date.
Dua's album was great too (a few songs I don't care for but the ones I do like are good enough to make up for it) and CamelPhat's album was super solid and consistent as well, obviously good to have a collection of all of their essential singles and there was a good handful of quality album tracks on top of that, I worried it would start to drag being 21 tracks long but I found myself enjoying it the whole way through. Unsurprisingly not heard these other albums you posted so far x |

Album of the Year Contender: Lady Gaga – Chromatica
 The other pop female on the list this year is of course Lady Gaga, who delivered what I'd been waiting for since Artpop giving us an album of dance-pop tunes. She doesn't compromise on vocal quality though giving some great performances. The instrumental interludes were a great idea from her too helping it be her most cohesive album yet. 'Rain On Me' may well end up being my favourite song she's ever done, more on that when we get to it in the singles rundown. The production throughout the album is great too and I'd like to think won't date as much as the RedOne era, certainly not as much as some of the EDM of Artpop anyhow. Album of the Year Contender: Lucas & Steve – Letters To Remember
 Lucas & Steve had been around for most of the 2010s but as ever with dance acts a debut album could only come many years after first becoming prominent. I didn't particularly anticipate an album from them but decided to give a listen as I really enjoyed the lead-in single 'Another Life'. As it turns out they're now into doing very Avicii influenced dancepop so it was very much an album made for my taste. The songs are rather generic but it's done well, they're certainly better as songwriters than most of the acts on the Spinnin roster.
