Top 300 Songs of 2020
21 Kylie Minogue - Say Something 22 Lady Gaga - Fun Tonight 23 Olivia O'Brien - Josslyn 24 Why Don't We - Fallin' (Adrenaline) 25 Delta Goodrem - Keep Climbing Princess of pop Kylie Minogue came back to us after a smaller break than usual between albums with sensational bop Say Something, introducing us to the world of DISCO. Granted, this single wasn't exactly in line with everything else on the album, or as disco-ey as the rest, but it set the tone nicely and it's working its way up the rankings of Kylie's singles. It worked as a lead single, and definitely hit the mark after all of the success she had with Golden and her Step Back in Time eras. Lady Gaga's Fun Tonight was such a cheeseblock moment for me - being my favourite song from the album from the very first listen-through when it was released. I will continue to champion it as one of her best songs - it just has such a special vibe for me, despite its lyrical content being quite sad and emotional. Olivia O'Brien's Josslyn became a favourite of mine throughout the year for being such a great 'f*** you' song, while Why Don't We returned with Fallin' (Adrenaline), a massive bop that earned them incredible recognition and success after their 8 Letters era. It's such an amazing song and was a great way to start their new era that has produced bop after bop too. Delta Goodrem's been a bit hit-and-miss for me recently with a lot of releases scattered throughout the year, but my favourite of them all is by far Keep Climbing - a stunning ballad that harks me back to her Child of the Universe era. Her vocals are stunning as ever, and the song is just so raw and emotional. |

Top 300 Songs of 2020
16 Rita Ora - How to Be Lonely 17 Jonas Brothers - What a Man Gotta Do 18 Greyson Chance - Dancing Next to Me 19 HRVY - NEVERMIND 20 Johnny Orlando - Phobias Honestly from here on out it's hard to even comment on songs because they're all just so amazing, but here goes ~ Rita Ora's How to Be Lonely is a song that I feel gets such a hard time that I don't fully understand because to me this is just as great as everything else she's put out recently. Yeah, it doesn't have an amazing music video and the whole concept is pretty odd, but the song itself is insanely catchy and has a killer chorus that doesn't get old for me. Jonas Brothers' What a Man Gotta Do was a moment - another incredible pop song from them since they returned to us, and the music video with Nick, phew! A treat for the eyes, and of course the song is just so infectious and feel-good. I'm patiently waiting for their next album. Greyson Chance's Dancing Next to Me felt like the beginning of a new era that, as we now know, didn't ever happen. It's a beautiful song, and would have made for the perfect lead-in to an album of songs like that and Bad to Myself, but sadly it wasn't meant to be and it'll just need to be remembered as a perfectly great one-off song that doesn't belong on a collection. HRVY's NEVERMIND is quite possibly one of his best songs to date? It's definitely up there with the absolute best of his non-existent album Can Anybody Hear Me? - he just knows how to deliver incredible pop hooks. Johnny Orlando also delivered on the pop front with his single Phobias, with delicate verses that lead into an epic chorus - this song really made me sit up and take notice after the songs he'd released prior were good, but not outstanding. Thankfully, everything he's released since has been incredible. More songs like Phobias please, Johnny! |

Top 300 Songs of 2020
11 Dua Lipa - Cool 12 James Bay - Chew on My Heart 13 5 Seconds of Summer - Wildflower 14 Lady Gaga - Stupid Love 15 Dua Lipa - Physical Edging closer and closer to the top 10 songs of 2020, we have a double (and final) appearance from Dua Lipa with two fantastic songs from Future Nostalgia - one a single and one an album track. Just missing out on the top 10 is album track Cool which became a big hit in my chart - it's easily my favourite song from the album, and just sounds so amazing each time I listen. At the other end of this section seeing Dua become the bread of the sandwich, is Physical - an incredible pop song that really set this era alight (if Don't Start Now didn't already do that). It's been great to see Dua continue to have great success and not bomb with her second album, so props to her because she clearly knows her way around a brilliant pop song. James Bay's Chew on My Heart was sadly a brief encounter with him in terms of music in 2020 - it seemed like it could be heading somewhere, leading up a new campaign, but after that... nothing. Fortunately for James, this was a #1 in my chart and I go back to it so often because it's just such a great song. He's had me completely on board ever since Wild Love, and this is a great step up too, a bit more up-tempo and so fun. Lady Gaga let us step into the world of Chromatica with the release of Stupid Love, the lead single from the album. Despite it generally not being as favoured as a lot of other songs from the album, this remains a great choice of first single for me, and a great song in general. Fun, amazing pop and Lady Gaga doing what she does best. Is it maybe generic? Yeah, but we love it. 5 Seconds of Summer's Wildflower is also an incredible song, by far the best from their CALM era. Fully embracing the 'hippie' side of life in the music video, it's got a great vibe and the chorus of this is just insane - so much love. |

Hey Calum!
Wow so many songs that I've missed here so I'm just gonna focus on the Top 100 because otherwise this will take up half the page SO MANY GOOD SONGS! 11 Dua Lipa - Cool 12 James Bay - Chew on My Heart 13 5 Seconds of Summer - Wildflower 14 Lady Gaga - Stupid Love 15 Dua Lipa - Physical 21 Kylie Minogue - Say Something 24 Why Don't We - Fallin' (Adrenaline) 27 The Vamps - Better 28 The Pussycat Dolls - React 30 Troye Sivan - Easy 31 Little Mix - Happiness 34 Dua Lipa feat. DaBaby - Levitating 35 Shawn Mendes - Teach Me How to Love 37 Isac Elliot - Weekend 43 MEDUZA feat. Dermot Kennedy - Paradise 51 HRVY - ME BECAUSE OF YOU 52 Lauv & Conan Gray - Fake 57 Dua Lipa - Hallucinate 59 The Vamps - Married in Vegas 60 Little Mix - Holiday 66 Dua Lipa - Break My Heart 72 New Hope Club & R3HAB - Let Me Down Slow 75 Ariana Grande - positions 76 Mabel - Boyfriend 77 Jonas Brothers & KAROL G - X 80 Shawn Mendes & Justin Bieber - Monster 84 Conan Gray - Wish You Were Sober 88 Marshmello & Halsey - Be Kind 97 Ruben - Burn Down This Room 99 Tyler Glenn - Somebody to Tell Me Honestly so many amazing songs that I absolutely adore. Dua's epic era last year fully warrants so many hits from her as it really was one of the best pop eras of late! Little Mix have had a fantastic year too and "Happiness" and "Holiday" are both fab! Is "Sweet Melody" yet to come? If so then that's a serious and deserving contender. Really happy to see my entry from Ruben here, although it will undoubtedly feature a lot higher on my chart "React", "Say Something", "Monster", "ME BECAUSE OF YOU", "Weekend" - soo many good songs and even more lesser faves that is lovely to see get some attention here. Excited to see the Top 10! |

Top 300 Songs of 2020
06 Little Mix - Sweet Melody 07 Isaac Dunbar - miss america 08 HRVY & Matoma - Good Vibes 09 Johnny Orlando - Everybody Wants You 10 Lauv - Modern Loneliness Here we GO, top 10 time! At #10 is Lauv with Modern Loneliness, by FAR the best song on his album ~how i'm feeling~. This song was immediately my favourite of Lauv's by a long way when it was released - it captures effortlessly the feelings of loneliness in the modern world, never being alone but always being a little bit depressed, and just a feeling of sadness even though you should be happy. Lauv never fails to write lyrics that are so true to life with regards to mental health, and the way he puts it into his music is so brave and inspiring, so this song really struck a chord with me, and of course at the same time he managed to make an excellent melody out of it. This will probably go down as one of my favourite songs for quite some time, and it's on a few playlists that I regularly go back to as well. Attack of the twinks as we head into the #7-9 section, with Johnny Orlando, HRVY (and Matoma) and Isaac Dunbar all appearing again. Johnny Orlando's Everybody Wants You was the lead single from his new EP It's Never Really Over, and it's such an epic song. Starting off quite subtle, but leading to a punchy, incredible chorus that really hits you in the face, and it's undeniably one of his best songs to date (if not his best song). It immediately entered at #1 in my chart, and stuck around for a long time after, while the same can also be said for HRVY's collaboration with Matoma on Good Vibes. This is such a feel-good, beautiful song. Simple lyrics, yet so powerful that are care-free, getting rid of that toxic energy in your life and surrounding yourself with good vibes only. The music video for this is so good too - multiple versions of HRVY sharing the stage to form a band that is so wrong but so right. Another #1 hit in my chart, and making it a trio is Isaac Dunbar's miss america - a commentary on America right now, and Isaac's clever lyrics still manage to marry so well with smooth, slick production and his dreamy vocals. It's an incredible song, builds to a fantastic final chorus, and has just been on repeat for most of the year really. I don't think anything I write about any of these songs will say enough about how much I love them lmao! Finally, just missing out on the top 5 are Little Mix with their latest (and final as a four-piece) official #1 single, Sweet Melody. Sweet Melody managed to reach #1 in my chart too after fending off some stiff competition before paving the way for Shawn Mendes when he released new music towards the end of the year, and my god this is up there with the absolute best of their singles discography. A banger, an incredible pop song, and one that you keep going back to because you can't get over how good it is. There are a lot of Little Mix songs that I like, and some that I really don't get the hype for among their die-hard fans, but this is one that I absolutely see the hype with and why it's adored so much. A very sweet melody indeed! |

Top 300 Songs of 2020
1 Shawn Mendes - Wonder 2 Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande - Rain on Me 3 Isaac Dunbar - makeup drawer 4 Greyson Chance - Bad to Myself 5 Reuben Gray - Lifeline And the biggest non-shock ever... Shawn Mendes takes the crown as my EOY #1 song with Wonder, the lead single from his fourth album of the same name. Wonder was released in October after a trailer for the album was released (all the orange and black heart emojis being teased on Instagram now make sense as hinting to October, Halloween month) alongside Intro, and oh my god I can still remember my exact reaction to hearing the song for the first time, watching the video for the first time - all of it was just such a euphoric rush. I was just so glad to have new Shawn music in my life, and he delivered on all fronts. He was back with a more mature look, a sound that had developed and grown since In My Blood (albeit with Wonder drawing criticisms for sounding a bit too similar to In My Blood - but is that a bad thing really?!). Wonder ponders a lot of things - really honing in on the title of the song itself. Basically a diary of Shawn's inner thoughts, it describes him wondering what it's like to be loved by somebody else, friendships, life, etc - and it's such a meaningful, beautiful, up-lifting song that has true depth to it. Sadly it didn't do much officially, however it became a FIVE week #1 hit in my chart, spending a monumental amount of time in the top 10, and is still charting now, only just exiting the top 20 last week! A true marvel from Shawn! Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande's collaboration on Rain on Me was one of the biggest moments of the year for me too - a song that I am just crying that I haven't been able to dance to in a club yet, because it's just screaming out for that. I can't wait to live my best life, get to the nearest gay club and shake my body with a drink in my hand, forgetting the world, waving my passport to Chromatica around and having FUN TONIGHT. Rain on Me will be a timeless bop, I can already tell, and Lady Gaga was back to doing what she does so well, with Ariana there for good measure, and it was another smash hit in my chart, continuing what has been a massive year for Lady Gaga! Rounding out the top 5 we have more entries from three artists that have appeared more than once so far. Isaac Dunbar's makeup drawer is absolutely my favourite song of his, and my personal favourite BJSC entry too. Sadly it didn't perform quite as well as I'd hoped in the final (although it did have the support of one nation in particular, being their favourite discovery of the month and that's what matters most). It's such an amazing pop song, and Isaac proves that he really is such a versatile artist that can deliver on all fronts. It's an honest insight into dealing with his sexuality and how he came to terms with who he is, and the music video is so fun too! Greyson Chance's Bad to Myself struck a chord with me from first listen, becoming my favourite song of his released in 2020, and in this song he talks about his struggle with a disorder he's dealt with for some time, and about not being bad to himself anymore, so a song that no matter what your struggle is, you can probably relate to the lyrics in some way too - and it's so beautiful. Finally, Reuben Gray, after years of waiting, released the song that catapulted him to fame overnight on Britain's Got Talent some years ago now. Lifeline was the song we heard at his audition, so to finally have a studio version of the song was amazing, and oh my god did it deliver. It's such a beautiful, moving, poignant song that has the vocals there, and everything that makes Reuben the fantastic artist he is. |

I'd have been absolutely GOBSMACKED if that wasn't your #1 but no complaints at all *.* Rain On Me a worthy runner-up didn't expect Good Vibes to be in the top 10! and Chew On My Heart so high
