THE DEBATE TO END ALL DEBATES. Was 'Harleys In Hawaii' always intended to be a promo single?! Was it actually a single but then renamed a promo single after a flop? Feel free to bring further evidence to the court room if it makes for some extra posts. #keepkatyrelevant |

QUOTE Was 'Harleys In Hawaii' always intended to be a promo single?! NopeQUOTE Was it actually a single but then renamed a promo single after a flop? and no xHarleys was originally intended to be the second single, videos were shot in advance of Small Talk. Harleys was cast aside in favour of Small Talk serving as the second single instead. Then Small Talk tanked! My theory: The label decided to release Harleys after all and not let it go to waste, considering that it was all ready to go: videos / artwork / commissioned remixes. They opted to not send the song to radio, therefore taking the pressure off themselves that comes with the territory of a full blown single. Perhaps its “soft release” was with the view of testing the waters, i.e. consider upgrading Harleys to full single status/send it to radio if it showed really positive signs (i.e. video going viral / streams being really strong... but this hasn’t really happened, unfortunately!) So in summary, my view: Harleys was intended to be a single, it was passed over, and then it was released anyway, but not as a “proper” single. In the process, this has caused minor BuzzJack meltdowns *.* #keepkatyrelevant |

This is definitely a cover up for yet another flop. I mean, it’s so awful that it’s not like radio would play it anyway if it was sent to them or not

It's not so much a cover up, more a safeguarding procedure from her label to prevent another flop single. By deeming it as NOT A FULL SINGLE WITH RADIO PLAYS they can safe guard her name (even though they're fooling noone).
I mean whatever we think, it's had everything a FULL single usually has except radio plays. #idontrememberKATYPERRY |

Lmao and if her next lead single flops, all the stans will blame it on this ""promo"" single "killing all the hype!!!!1" like 'Rise' apparently did. :')

Flop single relegated to ‘buzz single’ by a couple of fans.

Lmao and if her next lead single flops, all the stans will blame it on this ""promo"" single "killing all the hype!!!!1" like 'Rise' apparently did. :') I don't see your point? Surely all the stans would be saying Small Talk was the "promo single", when literally NONE of us are denying it was an almighty flop?!This was released (I assume - I don't work for them so I don't really know the intentions) for the fans due to the label hyping it up originally as the 2nd single, but casting it out in favour of Small Talk (and thus the fans "demanding" they wanted Harleys) It's not a single. Her site literally states it as a "new song" and doesn't refer to it as a "single", like it does for both Small Talk and Never Really Over. It was sent out with an official label email stating it wasn't a single and radio is such a big indicator in the US specifically.. even the songs that flop get some sort of radio serviced single. Similarly to Strip by Little Mix and yet no one was bothered by that no longer being called a single - despite a video, artwork and "It's the 2nd single" hype.. |

The bigger mystery is why the label thought it was a good idea to go for Small Talk over Harleys In Hawaii at all?!

It was definitely released as a single, but ultimately flopped.
