Only took 39 years to get there (not including the 1976/80 samples) with two Summer Olympics in-between, but the crowning jewel of the World Athletics Series has finally come to America!
The coverage of the championships will be live on the BBC in the UK. Will anyone be watching it? |

British athlete Chris Thompson will miss Sunday's marathon at the World Championships in Oregon because of delays processing his US visa.
The 41-year-old was set to compete in his first World Championships after finishing as the top Briton in last year's Tokyo Olympics. "I'm absolutely devastated I won't be in Eugene to compete," said Thompson. "This was my major aim for the year. "It should never have got to this point and it's hard to believe it has." |

I believe U.K. could have had three in most races but in 100m men, for example, not enough available runners with the qualifying times for the U.K. so they couldn’t fill 3 places.

Bad luck for Holly Bradshaw when she picked up an injury after her pole snapped in half.
The finish to the mixed relay was exciting with the gold medal going to the Dominican Republic. |

So much action over the last few days! The men's 10,000m in particular had so many big names in it. And Wang Jianan seemingly coming out of nowhere to get the gold in the long jump was certainly unexpected.

The first medal for Great Britain goes to Laura Muir in the 1500m with a bronze. There might not be many more. It seems to be so difficult to get one across all the events.

Jake Wightman produced a stunning run to take 1500m gold at the World Championships in Oregon.
The 28-year-old produced a brilliant final burst to pass Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen and clinch the title in three minutes 29.23. Wightman looked stunned as he crossed the line in a world-leading time. He is the first British man to win the world 1500m title since Steve Cram in 1983. |

Dina Asher-Smith ran a season's best time to reach the 200m final and continue her title defence at the World Championships in Oregon.
Asher-Smith clocked 21.96 to finish one hundredth of a second behind America's Tamara Clark in a rapid semi-final. |

That was a great run by Jake Wightman. I thought when he went into the lead with 200m to go that someone would overtake him before the finish but he held on.

Just two medal finals today. BBC1 coverage does not start till 01:20 so I don’t know if they are going to ignore the 5000m heats like they did the Steeplechase.

Jake Wightman could become Britain's "most successful" middle distance runner ever, former Olympic champion Lord Coe says.
Wightman took 1500m gold at the World Championships in Oregon on Tuesday. The Scot plans to compete in this summer's Commonwealth Games and at the European Championships before defending his world title in 2023. "This is potentially a real purple patch for him because of the way the calendar is now," Lord Coe said. "He is defending that [gold medal] next year and then, hopefully, be in great shape for the Olympics a year later. |

Another trademark finish by the Ohuruogu of the 800s in that heat.

Britain's Eilish McColgan and Jessica Judd are through to the 5,000m final at the World Championships in Oregon and Matthew Hudson-Smith is in the 400m final, but medal hope Max Burgin withdrew from the 800m with injury.
McColgan ran a season's best 14 minutes 56.47 to advance and Judd 14:57.64. Caster Semenya's 15:46.12 was not enough to qualify, however, with the South African middle-distance great running the 5,000m because she is barred from races between 400m and a mile over her testosterone levels. Semenya - a two-time Olympic champion and three-time world champion over 800m - finished 13th in her heat, around 45 seconds off the time required to reach the final. The 31-year-old cannot compete at her preferred distance unless she takes medication to reduce her testosterone levels. |

Dina Asher-Smith won 200m world bronze to return to the major championship podium after a year of personal and physical pain.
Jamaica's Shericka Jackson took gold in the second-fastest time in history, winning in 21.45, only 0.11 seconds off the 34-year-old world record. Jackson's compatriot Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who won 100m gold earlier in the week, was second in 21.81 seconds. |

Well that was fast.
The USA 🇺🇸 and France 🇫🇷 win their respective men's 4x100m heats in 37.87 and 38.09 and advance onto the final. |

Turns out Max Burgin was sidelined by deep vein thrombosis which he developed on the flight to the US. He'll have to stay there and let it clear before he flies back to the UK.

That was quite a run by Sydney McLaughlin in the 400m hurdles, beating her own world record by about 0.7 seconds.
Also, another bronze for GB from Matt Hudson-Smith in the 400m. |
