Kylie Minogue will release a new album next year on EMI, Music Week can confirm.
The LP has been recorded at Abbey Road and will contain reworkings of classics from throughout Minogue's career. It celebrates 25 years since the release of her debut single Locomotion.
Minogue was at Abbey Road last night as part of the EMI New Music Sessions. She revealed she’d actually been working there for the past two weeks, as well as details of the album.
The news comes after she tweeted pictures of herself inside a studio last month pointing towards a 12th album.
“I’ve been at Abbey Road for about two weeks in total,” she revealed after performing a stripped down, orchestral version of her 2000 hit ‘On A Night Like This’.
“Not just for this, I’ve been working on a project for next year. Next year’s my 25th anniversary so we’ve been recording acoustic and orchestral versions of a number of my hits.”
The Aussie singer went on to compliment the staff at Abbey Road saying commenting on a lack of ‘attitude’ at the studio despite the music icons it has accommodated over its illustrious history.
The music industry gathered at the treasured studio for the New Music Sessions with acts including Chiddy Bang, The Good Natured, Emeli Sande and Professor Green performing live sets.
More details on Minogue's album are expected soon.
So is it an acoustic studio album, or a greatest hits of acoustic versions of her songs?
Whatever it is, it's definitley the most exciting news I've heard for 2012 in music! (beating Madonna's new album and the reunion of Girls Aloud!)
EPIC NEWS IS EPIC! I really cannot wait for this.
I hope it's a proper album! I loved Aphrodite and more stuff like that would be fine. I won't object to something else though.
I would like an acoustic-style studio album, and a deluxe version that had acoustic versions of some of her hits!
I demand a studio version of her version of Wonderful Life.
So let me clarify, she's releasing an album of re-workings of her older singles as well as an album of new material, or is this not the case?
Ive a mixed reaction to this, im happy to be getting another kylie album so soon, and i love following the charts even more than normal when kylie is in them. The bad side is im not an acoustic fan and from what i have heard acoustically from kylie im not overly in love with. The acoustic/ reworking of old hits album i will purely be buying it for collectional purposes but i doubt it is a collection i will enjoy.
Now, if we also get a brand new studio album aswell i would be super excited and it could happen, as im sure kylie will want her 25th year in the music business to be as abig as possible so im hoping a great killer single in 2012.
I am not really sure about On a night like this, it sounds a bit rush. But ATL is pretty good.
all the lovers is the better of the 2 but neither do a huge lot for me done in this style,,,but i was always gona say that as im biased....il have toget over this soon as when the album comes out i will probably get ate alive here as i will be saying i dont like acouctic in every 2nd sentence....i really should open my mind up more though in relation to it...i will give the album afair go when it comes round and hopefully i might get a few pleasant surprises.
I want a new album + a bonus disc with reworkings
I wouldn't mind an acoustic reworked album actually, obviously I'd prefer a proper album but I love hearing her show off her voice
I was looking forward to an acoustic album until I saw these performances. Not impressed at all. I hope the studio versions are a lot better.
I'm not surprised or excited by this, though I do understand the logic. An acoustic album will be cheap to make and easy to market, given the whole 25 years angle. It will give EMI and Kylie what they need, in these difficult industry times - a low risk project that turns a decent profit.
I can't see Kylie releasing an original album at the same time, as the two concepts would be in competition with each other. However, I hope she follows it up with new material in the next 12 months. If she wants to surprise and reward fans, that's the only way to do it, as I think we're all expecting a long hiatus.
For me, she's a little in danger of becoming an artist that survives on past glories. That's a shame, because Aphrodite - while not a big seller, by anyone's calculations - was a creative high point. She needs to capitalize on that, as she did between 'Light Years' and Fever'.

Woopang!
AAAAAH.
I dont see "For me, she's a little in danger of becoming an artist that survives on past glories" at all, i think with each era she has held her own to a certain point, Kylie has always been more of a singles act than albums act and from that i certainly dont want to take away any of the amazing suiccess she has had with some albums. Aphrodite did under perform and should have done much better, but a platnum album going number 1 isnt what i would call a huge disaster either.
The past glories again i would argue the point that all the lovers is one of her biggest selling singles and her biggest since cant get you out of my head. I think where Kylie is in danger the most is not picking the right singles to start with and promoting them. I think this is part of the reason aphrodite under performed, apart from all the lovers the singles had messy releases.
But on to the future, i look forward to hearing the brand new single, im actually a little shocked as i didnt expect anything brand new from kylie for a while, i hope its a strong single and does well for her, id love a new studio album next year from her to mark the 25th anniversary but i still think we only get the acoustic album, i hope the album isnt over priced as i know i will only be buying it out of loyalty rather than for the love of it.
I don't agree with "For me, she's a little in danger of becoming an artist that survives on past glories" either, Kylie's always experimenting with different music - and now she's doing an acoustic album, which shows that she isn't "surviving on past glories"
I hope we got some Impossible Princess-esque music from her. Acoustic/Indie could be amazing OR a total disaster
I think she can afford to take risks with her music, she has a big enough core fanbase to get a top 10 single and album.
I stand by my comments. It's not a jab at Kylie, or a dig at her accomplishments, because I absolutely adore her. Any artist of her longevity is going to face challenges.
Aphrodite was heavily promoted. Yet despite all this, it underperformed. I would say the same of All The Lovers. It might look good against her past singles sales, but it in the digital age, it was only a moderate hit. And that's just the UK - Australia was a disaster (despite her first proper promo tour in 10 years).
Personally, I was really surprised by this, because I thought it was a brilliant album. I loved GOOMY. So yeah, I think there is a danger that Kylie - or specifically, her record company - will see more start to see more value in mining her back catalogue than investing in the future. Does this make sense?
Very, very excited about a new song, though worried this might just be a rumour!!
ATL was a pretty big hit even in the digital age. Also, promotion dried after ATL was released, performances became far too few and far between.
I know exactly what you're saying HerbieHollywood and I agree. It's easier and cheaper for record companies to make money from her past hits rather than investing in new music which based on the last album did not generate very much in the way of sales (comparative to her contemporaries) and cost more than simply putting a new compilation out there.
I think at most 2 or 3 new songs maybe? Sounds like at least one new song as the single.
Kylie says that it's to be released in 2013...

Is that not her next studio album though and not the Acoustic GH album?
It must be, tbh it makes so much more sense to release the acoustic GH this year, with it being 'K25' and all. She has to release SOMETHING anyway
I hope we will get the acoustic/orchestral album this year, I wouldnt make sense to release it after the 25th anniversary year - unless all we are getting this year is the online video's and a new album next year. I'd really like a full CD of the reworkings, which will sit nicely alongside my Kylie collection.
i hope so new album will be like Body Language vs Aphrodite mishmash
I'd rather have another "X" than another "Aphrodite"
Aphrodite bored me to death. Listened to it like 3 or 4 times, just never clicked with me. X had far more highlights and variety too. It might've been all over the place, but at least there are standout tracks on it that I still listen to after all these years.
