Top 10 Highlights
  • MJ Cole and Freya Ridings jump two spots to number one with their collab "Waking Up" after two weeks on the chart.
  • Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus spend a fourth consecutive week in the Top 2 with their former No. 1 "Nothing Breaks Like A Heart"
  • Chart behemoth Kygo spends a record 10th week in the Top 5 with his newest smash "Happy Now".
  • Khalid climbs for the fifth week in a row with "Suncity", reaching a new peak at No. 6.
  • Last week's number one, the Dumplin' remix of Dolly Parton's classic "Jolene", falls seven spots to No. 8 this week.
Climbers & Returnees
  • Ellie Goulding and Diplo climb further into the Top 20 with "Close To Me" which is at No. 16 this week.
  • Digital Farm Animals jump 33-17 with their newest bop "Tokyo Nights" which features Shaun Frank and Dragonette.
  • Both Liam Payne and Rita Ora's collab "For You" (No. 36) and Calvin Harris and Sam Smith's collab "Promises" (No. 40) return to the Top 40 thanks to the 2018 YE countdown.
New Entries
  • Former One Direction member Zayn has a new entry at No. 21 with "There You Are", his first Top 30 hit since last summer's "Entertainer" (No. 14, June 2018).
  • Icelandic rappers JóiPé & Króli joined forces with singer GDRN and comedy duo Sprite Zero Klan for this year's NYE song (a tradition in Iceland) called "Nćsta" (en. "Next Year"). Through some initial NYE hype the song manages to just about reach the Top 40 at No. 39 but for both GDRN and Sprite Zero Klan this is their first entry on the chart.
  • Galantis also have a new entry on the chart with their ode to "San Francisco" but it fails to reach the Top 40 and has to settle for No. 47. This is the swedish duo's first Top 50 entry since "True Feeling" more than one and a half year ago (No. 2, July 2017).

Top 10 Highlights
  • MJ Cole and Freya Ridings spend a second week at No. 1 with "Waking Up". An impressive feat given that this is only Freya's second song to ever chart after "Lost Without You" (No. 7, April 2018) and MJ Cole has never troubled the Top 50 before.
  • Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus warm the runner-up position for yet another week. Combined, this duo has racked up a total of 9 weeks at number one on my chart with 4 different songs.
  • Digital Farm Animals rush up the chart [17-3] this week with "Tokyo Nights". DFA are no strangers to the chart, having previously visited the Top 10 on three other occasions, but their collaborator Dragonette hasn't been seen in these parts since her 2015 smash "Outlines" (No. 6, March 2015)
  • Debuting just outside the Top 20 last week, Zayn climbs into the Top 10 this week with "There You Are". This is his first foray into the Top 10 since his multi-week number one collaboration with Sia, "Dusk Till Dawn" (No. 1, September 2017).
  • This week's highest new entry is actually a re-entry as Sam Smith did initially peak at No. 42 in his last album's release week but "Pray" manages to resurface at No. 8 this week thanks to some heavy airplay in the past seven days.
  • With three new entries we also have three dropouts from the Top 10. Halsey dips 10-11 with "Without Me", ESC 2018 alum Eleni Foureira tumbles 9-15 with "Tomame" and finally former number one, Dolly Parton's "Jolene (Dumplin' Remix)" crashes 8-18 only two weeks after it was in first place.
Climbers & Returnees
  • Outside of the new entries Ellie Goulding has one of only two songs that continue to climb within the Top 50 as "Close To Me" reaches a new peak of No. 13.
  • Galantis make their way into the Top 40 this week as "San Francisco" climbs 47-36 and thus marks the first time these former chart juggernauts enter the Top 40 since 2017. Previously in 2015-2016 Galantis were regular visitors to the Top 10 with four songs reaching that feat in a row: "Runaway (U & I)" (No. 2 in 2015), "Peanut Butter Jelly" (No. 1 in 2015), "No Money" (No. 8 in 2016) and "Love On Me" (No. 10 in 2016).
New Entries
  • Leading the five new entries from 11 to 40 is irish DJ John Gibbons who has a belated christmas song enter at No. 19 with help from vocalist Nina Nesbitt. Gibbons has previously never charted as his previous hopefuls both charted outside the Top 40 ("Would I Lie To You", No. 43 in 2016; "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)", No. 67 in 2017). Nina however is no stranger to the chart and actually had two hits just last year with the Sigala fronted "Somebody" (No. 14, November 2018) and her solo outing "Somebody Special" (No. 30, January 2018).
  • After a random appearance on the Aquaman soundtrack, Pitbull makes an unexpected return to the Top 40 with the Toto sampling "Ocean to Ocean". This marks the second time this decade that a song sampling "Africa" (No. 1, 1982) enters the Top 40 as Jason Derulo achieved the same goal 8 years ago with "Fight For You" (No. 10, 2011).
  • 19-year-old american singer Madison Beer enters the Top 40 for the second time in her career with "Hurts Like Hell" new at No. 35. This is only a few weeks after just missing the mark with the League of Legends sponsored "POP/STARS" (No. 41, November 2018).
  • Finally, X Factor alum Fleur East makes a long awaited return to the chart with "Favourite Thing" which vaults in at No. 39 after just 2 days of airplay so it's safe to assume it will climb next week. This is Fleur's third entry in the chart after more than a 3-year absence. Last time she gave us the massively underrated "Sax" (No. 3 in 2015) which was followed by a minor hit in "Baby Don't Dance" (No. 25 in 2015).
