Exactly! Exactly what? I gave two options, neither of which were "Stand back and let it happen". In doing so I demonstrated that that the latter option was not the only alternative to blowing the man's brains out. How about answering my question rather than trying to derail the discussion on to an alternative nobody has advocated? |

I was pointing out that you *hadn't* offered it, and that you had neither offered what you *would* do. |

I'd be more surprised at a headline of 'no gun massacres in the US today'. |

It's sad when this is getting tacked on to another thread with barely any posts.. we've just become used to it.
Nothing will ever change until they sort their gun laws out. |

And that is the grim truth, nothing will ever change until it is sorted out. Again another awful shooting.

"For the period 1 April, 2016 to 31 March 2017, the number of guns Nabis can say were in criminal hands in England, Scotland and Wales was 322.
Which, give or take, is a little less than the 331 mass shootings officially recorded in America this year alone, where legal civilian gun ownership amounts to 265 million firearms." https://www.independent.co.uk/news/long_rea...r-a8110911.html In 2016/7 27 people died in England, Wales & Scotland as a result of being shot. The first 8 months of 2017/8 that was 15. More people died in the past day in the US than have in the past 2 years here. So don't come here with this "nutters with illegal guns" shite when gun control clearly works. The statistics back it up. |

Problem is, banning guns in America will instantly criminalise about 100m people - and not even US jails can hold that many! |

I was 8 when the Firearms act was passed here and even then I understood that it doesn’t make ever gun owner a criminal overnight. There would be a buy-back and amnesty period. Obviously.

I still predict there would be tens of millions of Americans who would refuse to give up their guns. Furthermore I can see juries refusing to convict many people prosecuted for refusing to give up guns - it would only take 1 of 12... This post has been edited by vidcapper: Nov 9 2018, 03:34 PM |

The difference in Gun culture is why literally nobody is talking about a full ban like we have in the UK or Australia. Just common sense reform that is supported by a majority of Americans. (With 67% or 70% at the last time of polling. Can’t quite remember which)
Waiting periods, background checks, closing the gun show loop hole, ban on bump stocks, ban on ultra high capacity magazines and a ban on assault rifles that are an actual weapon of war. (And any 2A fundamentalists would be weeded out during jury selection) |

(And any 2A fundamentalists would be weeded out during jury selection) Then it might be argued that the jury was not representative - as in the bad old days of all white male juries... We are fortunate in this country that we have nothing like that stringent jury vetting. |
