Florida gave ex-felons their right to vote back so not all is bad in the nation’s peen

And with the margins so small in both the governor and senate races, that could very easily have made the difference if they had been able to vote already.

Went to bed feeling not optimistic but am actually on the good side of the bed this morning. Yeah the senate’s a total bust but there’s also those random seats in South Carolina and Oklahoma were pleasant surprises.

The SC switch was Charleston! Super nice and laid back coastal city that is the site of the start of the civil war. Basically the birthplace of the Confederacy given that the ordinance to leave the US was drafted and formed in Charleston and SC was the first state to leave the union.

The kind of place that bleeds Republican. Huge scalp.

My friends were voting blue, and one switched from being a registered Republican to a registered Democrat and voted in the Der primary this year. The blue wave is coming.

Which is what the Democrats are in America...

Only using the American’s adjusted L/R scale are the Democrats left wing. They sit on the Centre-Right in European terms, similar to the Tories. It’s just that they are tracking towards the European Left whereas the Tories are tracking towards the Far-Right

There is certainly some movement on the political spectrum within the Democratic Party with the rise of Bernie Sanders in 2016 and more recently Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is the youngest ever women elected to Congress at 29, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America who ran on a fairly left wing agenda.

In terms of the result - it was a little better for the Republicans than most were expecting. Gary Younge (author of the excellent Another Day In The Death of America) wrote this piece: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/no...dam-block-trump suggesting 'it is no longer unthinkable that Trump will be re-elected in 2020' unless 'the Democrats present a positive, more hopeful alternative to his dystopian world view'.

Bernie Sanders. He woulda won the first time round. Hillary was too weak from the start.

But the colour red associated with Republicans definitely does not mean they are socialists!

AAnd still we don't know these two results from Florida with the initial count showing the Republican candidates winning by around 0.15%. Under Floridian law, there has to be a recount if the margin is under 0.5%. Of course, that hasn't stopped the orange thing accusing the Democrats of trying to steal the election without providing a shred of evidence to support his latest deranged assertion. Unfortunately, a lot of his supporters will lap it up as usual.

I would suggest that Trump's advisors to explain to him that one of his roles as president is to uphold the Constitution and law and order, but I doubt anyone has the time even to explain to the idiot what that means.
