There couldn't be a better song choice for me this week since today is the first of august!
Lyrics: Salt air, and the rust on your door I never needed anything more Whispers of "Are you sure?" "Never have I ever before" But I can see us lost in the memory August slipped away into a moment in time 'Cause it was never mine And I can see us twisted in bedsheets August sipped away like a bottle of wine 'Cause you were never mine Your back beneath the sun Wishin' I could write my name on it Will you call when you're back at school? I remember thinkin' I had you But I can see us lost in the memory August slipped away into a moment in time 'Cause it was never mine And I can see us twisted in bedsheets August sipped away like a bottle of wine 'Cause you were never mine Back when we were still changin' for the better Wanting was enough For me, it was enough To live for the hope of it all Cancel plans just in case you'd call And say, "Meet me behind the mall" So much for summer love and saying "us" 'Cause you weren't mine to lose You weren't mine to lose, no But I can see us lost in the memory August slipped away into a moment in time 'Cause it was never mine And I can see us twisted in bedsheets August sipped away like a bottle of wine 'Cause you were never mine 'Cause you were never mine, never mine But do you remember? Remember when I pulled up and said, "Get in the car" And then canceled my plans just in case you'd call? Back when I was livin' for the hope of it all, for the hope of it all "Meet me behind the mall" Remember when I pulled up and said, "Get in the car" And then canceled my plans just in case you'd call? Back when I was livin' for the hope of it all (For the hope of it all) For the hope of it all For the hope of it all (For the hope of it all) (For the hope of it all) About august: Alongside fellow tracks "cardigan" and "betty", "august" constitutes a fictitious love triangle involving three characters: Betty, James, and an unnamed female. The song is written from the latter's perspective, depicting her sorrow over her derailed summer romance with James, who abandoned her and reconciled with Betty. Swift, in her 2020 concert documentary folklore: the long pond studio sessions, said that she personally calls the unnamed narrator "Augustine" or "Augusta". (Wikipedia) Is this song a favorite? Is it the best out of the three? |

very controversial opinion but i've always found this song a little overrated i do love it but it's nowhere near my favourite on folklore and quite comfortably my least favourite of the love triangle songs

a classic the way this has been trending all of august so far, a new monthly classic and I'm hoping for a streams boost the way this has become one of the most acclaimed tracks of her career!
I rly love it <3 It's easily 2nd for me in the triangle songs (miles behind cardigan but def quite a bit ahead of betty) |

Definitely one of my favourites from Folklore - and indeed ever from her discography... it completely hooked me from first listen

My favourite song to come from Folklore and Evermore, it’s so so stunning. I can’t shout enough about it

Resurfacing on Spotify today. #29! Will need to complete listening to the albums of hers I haven't listened to. (Haven't been listening to any albums really in general tbh). Great to see though.

It's August, so its resurfacing makes sense!

Interestingly 'August' has re entered the top 100 officially this week and it's now September so much for charting only in the month of the song title.
