Nine-time Irish champion jockey Pat Smullen has died at the age of 43.

Smullen announced his retirement from racing in May 2019 after completing treatment for pancreatic cancer, and won widespread praise for his stoic attitude and humility in the face of illness.

He won the Derby at Epsom in 2016 on Harzand, trained by Dermot Weld.

Smullen also landed the Irish Derby with Grey Swallow in 2004 and Harzand in 2016.

During his career, he also won the Irish 1,000 Guineas twice (Nightime and Bethrah), the Irish Oaks aboard Covert Love and the Irish St Leger four years running on Vinnie Roe.

As well as Harzand's Epsom triumph, his major wins for Weld in Britain included the 2,000 Guineas on Refuse To Bend, the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot with Rite Of Passage, and the Champion Stakes on Fascinating Rock.

He was an excellent goalkeeper who would have won over 100 caps for England had Peter Shilton not been around at the same time.

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles player Keith Titmuss has died at the age of 20 after falling ill following training.

The prop was taken from the Narrabeen training camp to Northern Beaches Hospital, before he was transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, where he died shortly after.

Titmuss had yet to make his National Rugby League (NRL) debut but was in his side's 30-man squad for next season.

Tributes have been paid to "immense" former France rugby union international Christophe Dominici, who has died aged 48.

Dominici was best known for helping France knock New Zealand out of the 1999 Rugby World Cup.

A witness saw him climb the roof of a disused building at Saint-Cloud park, near Paris, on Tuesday before falling, officials say.

Former Fulham, West Ham, Portsmouth & Senegal footballer Papa Bouba Diop has died aged 42 after a long illness. It feels like every week former footballers are dying at the moment, I remember a really good long range goal he scored against Man United and his goal against France in the 2002 World Cup.

R.I.P Papa Bouba Diop.
