#11: Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee f/Justin Bieber - “Despacito" [8 Votes // 17.02%]
Non-album single
Peak: #1 (16 weeks)
First to leave is Reggaeton juggernaut “Despacito” which had been lingering around in its original form for a while, but then was taken to another level of success due to a remix featuring Justin Bieber. This ended up becoming the song of the summer, spending its time at the top for 16 weeks, tying the record for most week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 set by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day”. It was eventually knocked down from the top by Taylor Swift’s anticipated release. In terms of this poll, this was actually tied with “Bad & Boujee” for the longest time but then the tie was broken at the last minute.
Personally, I’m glad Reggaeton as a genre could finally cross over into the mainstream and this was a nice way to do it. Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee Have been around for a couple decades and it’s nice to see them get this level of recognition. I do understand why this would get as many votes as it did (oversaturation, Bieber’s appearance, yadda yadda yadda), but the song itself isn’t that bad. Seeing it in last place is disheartening and a little bit racist IMO.
Joseph’s reaction is gonna be a little more extreme, I’m pretty sure.

Voting for Round 2 closes Saturday, January 6 2018. Feel free to make as much discussion as possible, it is the driving force of the spread of music and ultimately is how this forum operates. Thank you!
Really surprised to see Despacito in last place.
I suspect the voting was more to do with oversaturation (and it's links to Bieber) more than song quality.
I voted That's What I Like. Considering most of Bruno's previous singles output has been good, I found this one really basic for him. Really don't get why it was so succesful.
I feel like for purposes of the duration of this poll series, I’m glad that there were only 11 new #1’s last year (Black Beatles also reached #1 but it first peaked there the year prior). Sure Shape Of You and Despacito were a bit overkill but at the same time I’m proud that there was still some potential for breaking records.
At least Migos didn't go out first as I expected x Going with Taylor again, I'll probably be sticking with her for a while lol
Aw, 'Despacito' was hammered to death but I do quite like it. 'Bad & Boujee' again ~
lmao REALLY?! I mean, I know it's been played to death, but this still seems silly.
Taylor Swift gets my vote again. And I'm sure she'd have gone out first if this wasn't Buzzjack, it had a really bad reception most places on the internet, rather than the mixed reception it got here.
Is this a joke?! I understand overplay takes away from some songs but "Despacito" was nowhere near as overplayed as "Shape of You" last year (not that either of them are anywhere near the worst Billboard #1s of 2017).
Voted for "Bad and Boujee" again but "Perfect" is a close second.
'Despacito' probably just suffered from standing out tbh. I'm sure the anti-hip-hop crusade on BuzzJack would have prevailed in round 1 if its vote wasn't split between 5 different songs. x
(it was nowhere near the best on the list anyway tho)
I will vote Perfect until it leaves.
Despacito is the second worst in my opinion so I'm certainly not disappointed to see that leave.
Well that's my second fave on that list out first BOO (and third fave Migos looking likely to depart soon too - actually I'd put Shape Of You ahead of it on second thoughts)
Bruno again, I'll be here for a while I imagine.
I have a feeling that I’m gonna end up voting for Rockstar for the next 7 rounds...
YOU HAVE JUST TODAY LEFT
Taylor Swift for me.
Not much is worse than 'Despacito', but 'I'm The One' damn well is!
Got a little bit over half an hour left, you guys! Loving the turnout so far!
FINALLY someone broke the tie
