ELIZA DOOLITTLE
British female singer, born Eliza Caird, 17/4/88. Ruffelle's mother and therefore Eliza Doolittle's grandmother is Sylvia Young OBE, the founder of the famous theatre school in London Eliza also had a role in Les Misérables during 1996-7 playing the young Cosette. Her singles chart career was based mainly around a number of quirky performances but was also a featured vocalist on a dance tune by Disclosure Not much has been heard of her since 2013, but she did release an album just as "Eliza" called "A Real Romantic" in 2017 but neither the album nor any singles made any chart impact. She does have a number one single on her CV though - she was part of the Justice Collective for their recording of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" which was the 2012 Christmas number one. |

You & Me seems like such a random collab these days but it worked so well! Shame she fizzled out I think she had potential and a talented voice! Even if she wasn't doing the throwback sound I think she could've carved out a niche.

She finished 4th in the 2008 series of "The X Factor" 01 May 10 Once 1 11 wks 17 Jul 10 The Boy Who Murdered Love 36 6 wks 30 Oct 10 My Wicked Heart 13 4 wks 03 Aug 13 Cinderella 76 1 wk Total Hits : 4 Total Weeks : 22 Another of my favourites. I don't watch the X-Factor or other similar talent shows very much, but I saw one of Diana's performances on Youtube (probably "Hallelujah" or "White Flag") and I was hooked. Although she might not have had a successful career as Alexandra Burke, Diana's "Hallelujah" knocks socks off Alexandra's. By the time the second album came around, unfortunately the music business had moved on to other performers and when lead single "Cinderella" could only get to No. 76, the writing was on the wall. Shame, because there were some very good tracks on the "Music To Make Boys Cry" album that with the right kind of promo could have done much better. (She of course had a second number one as part of the X-Factor finalists mangling of Mariah Carey's "Hero") |

FYFE DANGERFIELD
British male singer/songwriter/guitarist, born Fyfe Antony Dangerfield Hutchins, 7/7/80. He is also the lead singer of the Guillemots 08 May 10 She's Always A Woman To Me 7 18 wks Total Hits : 1 Total Weeks : 18 The Guillemots had five top 50 hits between 2006 and 2008, with the highest peaking of them being "Get Over It" making No. 20 in 2008. Lead singer Fyfe Dangerfield beat that when his cover of a Billy Joel song made the top 10 after being used in a John Lewis advert. Joel's version was also in the charts at the same time. For the week they both entered, Joel was No. 25 and Dangerfield was way down at No. 99, but the week after the relative positions were flipped and the Englishman's version became the better seller. |

I much preferred the first single “She Needs Me” (charted: #152) - I remember buying it on CD single from HMV in Lincoln during that bitterly cold January. The solo album wasn't that great IIRC but I did love that Guillemots debut. “Made-Up Love Song #43” and “Trains To Brazil” remain firm 2000s faves for me.

I felt at the time that Joshua Radin's 'I'd Rather Be With You' might go on to become as omnipresent as Jason Mraz's 2 big hits (it even peaked at #11 like both of those did!) - not complaining though that it instead went to pretty quickly fade into obscurity, it was nothing special.
All Time Low are most notable to me for the amusing trivia that 'Weightless' by them debuted at #100 the same week that the song 'All Time Low' by The Wanted entered at #1. They had a few decent songs though (including 'Weightless') - forgot that they had that many top 100 hits actually, not bad for a rock band in this day and age. I loved Eliza Doolittle's debut album at the time, a lot of it hasn't aged well but I maintain that 'Pack Up' is a great song (as is her Disclosure collab ofc). Professor Green's star really faded rather quickly (apart from the anomaly of 'Lullaby') looking back! Though I think he does still have the potential to have another hit with the right song (as shown by that Alice Chater collab doing ok enough just last year). |

Did Fyfe even attempt to follow up She's Always A Woman? I remember loving his version at the time. Plus it soundtracks the most memorable John Lewis advert for me.

Wikipedia mentions a couple of singles in 2012 (including one featuring Busta Rhymes) that did nothing, and one more in 2016 but that's about it. |

They have won 7 Grammy awards out of 13 nominations 08 May 10 Need You Now 15 46 wks 27 Aug 11 Just A Kiss 78 2 wks Total Hits : 2 Total Weeks : 48 It's never been easy for American country artists to have a sustained UK chart career, but plenty have had the odd hit here or there and Lady Antebellum are one of those acts. It took over two years after the chart debut for "Need You Now" to reach it's UK peak, and even that was nearly a year after the original US release. The song made No. 2 in the Billboard Top 100 and topped their genre charts for Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40 and Hot Country Songs, and fininshed 2nd in the Billboard 2010 year-end chart. They changed their name to "Lady A" in June 2020 due to the association of "Antebellum" with the slavery era of the Southern United States. |
