Welcome new thread!
For those who are reading for the first time. This is the place where we discuss everything Radio 1 including the Tune Of The Week by each daytime DJ, (Although since the change from Track Of The Day to Tune Of The Week, discussion has dried up a bit.) any major schedule changes and Radio 1 events. Note that due to the way NYD has fallen this year, the top 5 in the BBC Sound Of 2018 won't be announced until next week.
I gave up on posting Best New Pop and the Hottest Records halfway through last year but hopefully I can get back on track with these this year.
For those who are interested, Here we have the 50 most played tracks of 2017 on BBC Radio 1. (Well 56, if you include the bubbling under bit, but the main chart is the top 50) Please note all of this information is from the BBC Radio 1 Last.fm page and includes tracks that have been played during the daytime and nighttime so the information here may be slightly inaccurate and differ from the official BBC information which hasn't been announced, except for the Disciples track being number 1 which reflects the Last.fm data. They may also be some inaccuracies where the scrobble has failed some days. The data was taken from the 1st January at 00:00 to 31st December at 23:59. (Yes I'm very accurate with timing!) I'll do the Tune of the Week for each DJ again whenever that starts up for this year, assuming next week.
The track choices and mixes today are just so on point *.*
Places never went A-List!!??
Slay at 'Trouble' being the 17th most played song of 2017 despite its Q3 2016 release date.
It was nice when Indie tracks were high amongst the most played, ah well.
wow surprised it isn't shape of you at #1
and that dance music is doing so well
also suprised at green light
Aaand here we go...
Hottest Record 1/1/18: Dream Wife - Hey Heartbreaker
I wouldn’t mind betting ‘Places’ has been played on nearly every dance show in 2017 which would of helped it get so high! Add that to its time on the playlist, Recurrent plays and any ROTW support from the presenters. It makes it even more strange that Radio 1 snubbed the follow up ‘All Stars’. Plus it features Alma, who they love! Their support for Martin Solveig has never really been consistent. They playlist one of his tracks which turns into a hit from him, then snub or only C List the follow ups. ‘Intoxicated’ to ‘+1’ was another example!
Green Light in the top 10 <3
Not at all surprised at Disciples being #1, must have been spammed during both daytime and nighttime!
Royal blood highest rock/indie track there - didn't think we would have a Hottest Record until next week!!
Hottest Record 2/1/18: Superorganism - Everybody Wants To Be Famous
Hottest Record 3/1/18: The Vaccines - I Can't Quit
Thanks for that. Excited to hear new music from the Vaccines
Fantastic stuff - The Vaccines are one of the most underrated bands around imo!
Hottest Record 4/1/18: Tonight Alive - Disappear
Playlist Predictions:
Justin Timberlake - Will surely get straight to A-List
Louis Tomlinson - Been a few weeks since it’s been released
Rita Ora and Liam Payne - May get an insta-add as well
Lily Allen - Maybe me being optimistic but hopefully it will be
Anne-Marie - Low down in the charts so hopefully this being playlisted will vault this up
Steel Bangerz - This looks like being a big hit soon
Rae Morris - Radio 1 seem to be supporting her strongly this era so wouldn’t be surprised to see her next single being supported
Hottest Record 5/1/18: Danny Byrd - Devil's Drop
Tune of the Weekend, 5th-6th January 2018
Liam Payne & Rita Ora - For You (Fifty Shades Freed)
https://open.spotify.com/album/05qNixNs1TgA2oZ3cvNsVB
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/for-you-from-fifty-shades-freed-single/1326958890
Tune of the Weekend to make it up for it not being playlisted I guess
Kan D Man & DJ Limelight start their brand new Radio 1 Asian Beats show tonight from 1am-4am. You may have noticed they have been in that slot of a few weeks now but that has been a repeat of Saturday Night Asian Network show.
Tune of the Week, 8th-12th January 2018
Jordan North / Adele Roberts
The Vaccines - I Can't Quit
Nick Grimshaw
Justin Timberlake - Filthy
Clara Amfo
SZA x Calvin Harris - The Weekend (Funk Wav Remix)
Matt Edmondson / Scott Mills
Bruno Mars feat. Cardi B - Finesse (Remix)

Great tunes of the week *.*
Tune of the Weekend, 13th-14th January 2018
Troye Sivan - My My My!
Hottest Record 12/1/18: Virtual Self - Ghost Voices
Why did we have no HR most of the week?
I see and the above track must be the Friday night essential selection Record?
Well yeh that's what I meant lol
Hottest Record 15/1/18: Tom Grennan - Sober
Tune of the Week, 15th-19th January 2018
Adele Roberts
Kendrick Lamar & SZA - All The Stars
Nick Grimshaw
SZA x Calvin Harris - The Weekend (Funk Wav Remix)
Clara Amfo
Bruno Mars feat. Cardi B - Finesse (Remix)
Matt Edmondson
Mc Fioti feat. Future, J Balvin, Stefflon Don & Juan Magán - Bum Bum Tam Tam (Remix)
Greg James
The Vaccines - I Can't Quit
Annie Mac
CASisDEAD - Pat Earrings
Quite an uninspired list this week considering 3 of those tracks were featured last week as well
I know why on earth are the supporting the same records again with different djs!
Looks like the Future Festival is no more. Instead we have something called Sound of 2018 live instead on the 30th January. Sigrid, Rex Orange County, Pale Waves, Not3s, Xyng Bane and 2015's winners, Years & Years are the performers.
Changes ahead to the weekend schedule from the end of next month!
Is Jordan North the one with the annoying accent who made a complete HASH of the chart of the year a few weeks ago? Ye gods.
I am thrilled for Jordan North and Maya Jama too presenters I really like
Hottest Records:
16/1/18: Rejjie Snow - Egyptian Luvr (feat. Aminé)
17/1/18: The Wombats - Cheetah Tongue
omg at those weekend schedule changes *.*
Dev and Alice work really well together! And I'm really glad to see Jordan North get a proper show. Maya will be an interesting addition to Fridays with Scott.
Hope Jama is with Scott as they are getting rid of him!
Sorry I wrote that wrong I meant I hope they aren't planning on replacing him with this new person as he's quite old now in terms of radio 1 presenters.
Apologies for the delay. I totally did not forget! Tune of the Week will follow in the next post.
Tune of the Weekend, 20th-21st January 2018
Mabel feat. Not3s - Fine Line
Tune of the Week, 22nd-26th January 2018
Adele Roberts
The Sherlocks - Chasing Shadows
Nick Grimshaw
Mella Dee - Techno Disco Tool
Clara Amfo
Jus Now & Dismantle feat. Busy Signal - Fire (Spotie)
Dev / Scott Mills
CLiQ feat. Alika - Wavey
Greg James
Tom Grennan - Sober
Melos Dee sounds pretty good!
I enjoyed that Malla Dee track! It would be great for the disco type dance music to comeback!
oh wow great to see Mella Dee getting Nick Grimshaw support! And Jus Now / CLiQ which I love even more. Think out of those only CLiQ has a chance of being a chart hit though.
Mella Dee and yesss at Wavey
They should have saved that Jus Now song for carnival time... what a banger! Great to see 'Wavey' getting support too, love that kind of dance music.
It's been 10 years but now BBC Radio 1 is bringing back comedy to its schedules as originally announced back in September last year with its nightime schedule changes. The comedy shows will launch via on-demand on February 5th but will also air on the station in the 3am-4am slot on a Wednesday for Series 1 (from February 7th), Thursday for Series 2 (from February 22nd) and a Friday for Series 3 (from March 30th).
Details of all the shows can be found http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2018/radio-1-comedy.
Strange comedy shows....
I guess that explains why they're supporting every flop Taylor single so strongly...
Great to see 6 Music is at the Belfast venue, quality music!!
Swansea tickets now on sale!
Sold out already!
Here is the 15 most played tracks on Radio 1 throughout January. I will hopefully do this for each month with a mid-year update covering January-June at the beginning of July. All the data comes from Last FM and records songs from daytime and nighttime. The data may be slightly incorrect due to possible failed scrobbles but hopefully this will give you a good idea of how much the tracks were played.
Most Played January 2018
1. Eminem - River (feat. Ed Sheeran) (100) [Added To A-List]
2. Jason Derulo - Tip Toe (feat. French Montana) (99)
3. James Arthur - Naked (98)
4. RAYE & Mr. Eazi - Decline (96)
5. Jax Jones - Breathe (feat. Ina Wroldsen) (95)
6. MK - 17 (93)
7. Tom Walker - Leave A Light On (90)
8. Sigrid - Strangers (90)
9. Craig David - I Know You (feat. Bastille) (89)
10. J Hus - Bouff Daddy (88)
11. Ramz - Barking (86)
12. Taylor Swift - Gorgeous (80)
13. Camila Cabello - Never Be The Same (77)
14. Bruno Mars - Finesse (Remix) (feat. Cardi B) (76)
15. Clean Bandit - I Miss You (feat. Julia Michaels) (64) [Insta-Added To C-List]
Intresting to note was that the most played track for January 2018 was played 15 times less than last year's January most played.
Strange that they keep skipping 'Bouff Daddy' on the chart show when it's otherwise spammed by them.
Since the change last weekend to the Greatest Hits show, with Maya and Jordan taking over, I'm going to try and keep a playlist updated of all the tracks played because there are some absolute classic bangers coming out of that show!
Follow the Spotify playlist https://open.spotify.com/user/lgx17/playlist/6wCc9MfSnjzMtosXhKYyfA?si=kD_KlQAzRIG6leapzOjLwQ.
Tunes of the Week (12 March 2018)
Nick Grimshaw
Diplo - Worry No More (feat. Lil Yachty & Santigold)
Clara Amfo
Khalid & Normani - Love Lies
Scott Mills
Noah Cyrus - We Are... (feat. MØ)
Greg James
Virtual Self - Ghost Voices
Annie Mac
Jon Hopkins - Emerald Rush
Huw Stephens
Boy Azooga - Loner Boogie
P.S. GREG THAMES MY HERO *.*
(and the new Jon Hopkins track is really good too)
Jordan North (who is in for Adele Roberts)'s tune of the week is Blossoms - I Can't Stand it btw
Love the Annie Mac one!
I was kinda hoping for an insta add for Louisa :/
Niall Horan playlisted
And Muse live to fight another Radio 1 day!
"The door remains open to Muse but we'll have to think carefully about their next album" George Ergatoudis, 2013.
Still, he's gone now. Would have been ridiculous playing Foo Fighters but snubbing Muse.
Also, Janelle Monae - which would have been another stupid omission.
Easter Weekend Programming
Good Friday
Radio 1's Greatest Hits all day.
Alice Levine is covering for Nick Grimshaw, Maya Jama for Clara Amfo and Matt Edmondson for Scott Mills

Radio 1's Greatest Hits all day
Sounds like Radio 1 will be a good listen over Easter then!
http://www.nme.com/news/music/bbc-radio-1-ordered-to-play-more-new-music-2274379
Radio 1 daytime must play 'at least 50% new music, including a significant proportion from new and emerging UK artists.' It comes into force on April 1st.
I wonder if this will impact the charts going forward?
This sounds like excellent news!
Hopefully, this will mean more new artists breaking through on the chart!
Hopefully more dance music that only usually gets dance anthems play will be daytime playlisted too.
Don’t they already do this?
Good!
Even if they just playlist new songs quicker!
I think they do this already. There are plenty of up and coming acts as well as new music from established artists in their day to day playlist. Even though stuff like Portugal. The Man has been on the playlist for ages, the majority of the audience will still think of it as 'new' even though its old to us
is this not old news? Radio 1 play at least 50% new British music anyway, I'd have thought.
Anyway...
Is anyone in the process of doing the playlist today? Because I can do it if no one else wants to?
Greatest Hits special of Dance Anthems now confirmed for tomorrow. YAS 3 hours of classic dance *.*
Matt Edmondson has been playing the normal playlist this afternoon. Maybe the GH days were just Good Friday and Easter Monday?
Fell a bit behind (oop) but I've updated the Greatest Hits playlist this morning, but it does not include every track from this weekend because who on Earth has time for that? (Me maybe).
https://open.spotify.com/user/lgx17/playlist/6wCc9MfSnjzMtosXhKYyfA?si=HmhBLy3sQWSBxAkAfr0joQ
Thanks for that Lewis. I do enjoy the GH shows
Really enjoyed this mornings GH show with Jordan North! Some great music, and some genuinely funny bits from Jordan!
Oh and just in case there hasn't been enough Greatest Hits this weekend, every day in April at 8:30am and 3:30pm there is going to be half an hour of Greatest Hits!
MORE INTROS *.*
As usual, all change tomorrow and a chance to hear someone different during the day
Bank Holiday Schedule (May 7th)

10:00 - Clara Amfo

16:00 - Jordan North
19:00 - Nick Grimshaw and Dan Smith (from Bastille)
21:00 onward as normal
So just a normal playlist tomorrow then?
I think they’re doing Greatest Hits all day but I can’t be sure.
Bank Holiday May 28th schedule

06:30 - Adele Roberts
10:00 - Jordan North
13:00 - Scott Mills

I'm fully expecting just Biggest Weekend highlights all day
It’s just been announced Nick Grimshaw is to leave the Radio 1 Breakfast Show in September
Nothing on the BBC website as yet, but This was posted on the Radio 1 Twitter
“It was always my dream to do the breakfast show and I’m very grateful that I got to live my dream every day for what will be nearly 6 years. But 6 years is a long time and this isn’t a forever job. I had the time of my life"
We love you Grimmy ❤️
Edit:- Now on the Newsbeat site. Grimmy will be replaced by Gregg James with Grimmy going to drive so it’s basically a swap.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-44312738
Not sure if this is already known (it sounded new when they were talking this morning) but from September Grimmy and Greg are switching programmes.
Nick will have done 6 years by then which has absolutely flown by!!!
Snap!
Radio One breakfast shows suddenly become listenable
about time he left breakfast!!! and good for Greg James.
Oh wow that's a great move! Greg is a fantastic choice.
Greg taking over breakfast may just help me wake up better in the mornings!
Good, I can’t stand Nick!
Nick Grimshaw on breakfast was a big disappointment, I really liked him when he was a nighttime presenter and took things more seriously but I wasn't much of a fan of his presentation style in the mornings. I don't expect Greg James to be that much different tbh. I am surprised Grimshaw lasted this long really!
I guess I’m the only one here who actually liked Nick on the breakfast show? Hell of a lot better than Chris Moyles!
Summer Mixes are again returning for the fourth year in a row.
New Shows starting from September
- New presenter Jack Saunders will present a new music show from Mon-Thurs 11-1am

- Radio 1’s Chillest Show with Phil Taggart will be 7-9 on Sundays
- The Rock Show with Daniel P Carter 9-11pm
- R1 Residency moved to Mondays 1-3am (Monki will remain a part of the Radio 1 Dance family apprantly)
and on 1xtra from January Snoochie Shy will be joining the 1Xtra family, with her very own specialist music show every Monday (1-3am).
Can't wait for Jack Saunders' show, great to hear more rock on R1!
Has anyone tuned into Greatest hits shows this weekend?? They have changed the show (0 ) Half of it is greatest hits as per usual half of it is normal show....
Lol if the presenters Jordan and Maya wanted their own proper show why not make friday's show a joint show between them and have that be a regular show and have greatest hits only on saturday and sunday
David Attenborough on Radio 1, what a legend!
Summer Mixes return this upcoming Monday at 8:30am. Much better start time and I think it's the first time the Summer Mix is starting in June.

I might be wrong, but aren’t they just repeating last years?
Having a look back at the Greatest Indie Hits Mix, (Scott Mills said it) it appears it is exacly the same mix as the Festival Anthems Vol 1 Mix last year.
Poor stuff from Radio 1. Hopefully we do get new mixes as well but why waste time playing mixes from last year and making it sound like it's new mixes by renaming them.
Doesn't surprise me at all, it's just an excuse for the presenters to have a break!!
because I love spotify playlists here's one for all the summer mixes so far to soundtrack y'alls summers
https://open.spotify.com/user/11887295/playlist/391dJoLQNrvB96BV8dJD8y?si=mUD0H-ctQeOXNQuQqIPN6g
I've given the Radio 1 Summer Mix playlist an update, which includes songs from this and last year's summer mixes. Over a whole two days worth of summer tunes.

Tonight is the first show of Radio 1's Indie Show with Jack Saunders, formerly of Radio X!
Noticed Annie Mac's show has been renamed as Radio 1's Future Sounds.
Toddla T's show is now called Radio 1's Soundsystem.
WOnder of Thundercloud by LSD will be re added to the playlist this week?
Oh right could have swore it was C listed for 3 weeks or something, prob be added soon and stay for a while!
I can't get on to my computer at the moment so if anyone fancies posting the playlist this morning then feel free (PM me if you're going to), otherwise I'll do it a bit later this morning.
EDIT - I'm doing it now...
So this was a big shock...
Charlie Sloth has annouced he is leaving Radio 1 and 1XTRA after 10 years.
No big loss really though I am surprised he's left now only after recently taking the slot over. I hope Radio 1 take the opportunity to dump that 1xtra takeover slot and do their own thing again.
The 1Xtra takeover is a money-saving measure isn't it? Highly doubt it's going away any time soon
Clara will be revealing details about this year's Live Lounge Month on her show tomorrow - presumably that it will air in November and the first few guests. Should be some good names, last year's was a good one.
Had only just noticed that they didn't do it all September! It's been during that month for many years so I wonder why it's been changed. They usually capitalise having it September by allowing most of the performances to appear on the Live Lounge album.
Rudimental + Tom Walker? Does that mean the next Rudimental track features Tom Walker?
OMG Ellie and Zara!!!
Little Mix haven't done a Live Lounge since Black Magic!! I really thought they'd be included WTF.
Do we think Shallow will be playlisted this week or they will ignore it even though it's almost top 10 on Spotify and number 1 on sales?
Great line-up! I'm really looking forward to The 1975, Blossoms, George Ezra, Hozier, Marshmello + Bastille, Mumford & Sons and Twenty One Pilots!
^^ Yeah I really can't see them playlisting it. I'm sure Scott will give it a few spot plays here and there though.
I think the soundtrack is likely to be playlisted by Radio 2 than Radio 1!
Another exit announced as B Traits is leaving Radio 1. Last show on October 26th.
What was the rant about?
What a child
Following B.Traits' departure, from November 2nd The Essential Mix is moving to 1am-3am and then from 3am-6am will be Radio 1's Wind Down.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-45976649
Matt & Mollie are swapping with Dev & Alice, which is a bit annoying.
Tune Of The Week - 29th-1st November (haven't seen this posted in a while so have decided to)
Adele Roberts
FISHER - Losing It
Greg James
Bad Sounds - Wages
Clara Amfo
Loyle Carner - Ottolenghi (feat. Jordan Rakei)
Scott Mills
Alesso - Remedy
Nick Grimshaw
Julie McDermott - Don't Go (Gerd Janson Re-Work)
Fisher!!!11!
I love how Bad Sounds is on the R1 playlist despite being out for about a year now
(absolute banger though, so I'm not complaining!)
Same with Tom Grennan!
It's not Radio 1 just choosing to play these songs, the record labels are giving them a re-release and then pushing them to radio again.
FISHER

I really don't like them putting all of the covers on one disc, I prefer the albums when you hear a mix of originals and covers. I really don't think some of these artists warrant appearing on here twice, Rag'n'Bone Man for one sticks out like a sore thumb having had zero commercial success this year.
Twenty One Pilots Live Lounge (1st November 2018)
Scott has just announced that Halsey will be in next Wednesday. Robyn was originally scheduled to perform then, I really hope she hasn't pulled out and Halsey is replacing someone else
Tune Of The Week - 5th-8th November
Adele Roberts
Clean Bandit Feat. Marina & The Diamonds & Luis Fonsi - 'Baby'
Greg James
Grace Carter - 'Why Her Not Me'
Clara Amfo
Shakka - Sugar Cane
Scott Mills
Anne Marie - 'Perfect To Me'

Friendly Fires - 'Heaven Let Me In'
Baby has not been added to Radio 1 playlists for this week... it's on Radio 2 and Capital FM A-lists.
Guess they really are holding out on this one.
Jorja Smith Live Lounge (5th November 2018)
Marshmello & Bastille Live Lounge (6th November 2018)
Halsey Live Lounge (7th November 2018)
Hozier Live Lounge (8th November 2018)
Scott Mills has chosen Baby as his Song of the Week.
That’s the second Radio 1 DJ to do that. Don’t see how they don’t playlist it now.
I guess it depends on it's impact date. If it's not until December sometime then they'll just keep it for spot plays and officially playlist it nearer the time.
B List seems to be here...

Homerton B on the Radio 1 playlist?! Well who saw that coming??
omg Homerton B has to become a proper hit now! *_*
good to see Billie Eilish, Clean Marina and Cadet x Deno in too.
Y'all can calm down now about Clean Bandit x
Tiffany Calver will take over the Saturday Night Rap show becoming the first ever female host of the show. (This change will happen in Jan 2019)
Shame no-one's tweeted the A-list, but we know that 3 songs have been removed from it. My guess is Twenty One Pilots, Tom Walker & Stay Flee Get Lizzy but I guess we'll find out in the morning...
Zara Larsson Live Lounge (12th November 2018)
Jess Glynne (13th November 2018)
Lewis Capaldi Live Lounge (14th November 2018)
Blossoms Live Lounge (15th November 2018)
Weird that radio 1 find it important to have a live lounge cover for Shallow but won't play the song itself?!

Greg James
Sam Fender - That Sound
Clara Amfo

Theo London/Tame Impala
"Honey" record of the week? I thought it had come and gone. Would LOVE this to be a hit. Even if just top 100. My number 1 this week and the album is amazing
Honey’s impact date got pushed back to 7th December so here’s hoping a playlist addition is on the way!

https://twitter.com/Weiss_UK/status/1064974214053208065
Annoying that Rita is off on her album release week but I imagine they'll be getting ready for the next single.
POOR ZARA.
Not entirely sure why Mumford need a 9th week on the playlist ahead of Rita but there you go.
It's annoying that no one's tweeted the B or C list!
I'm really surprised to see Weiss moved up to A List
Weiss and Jonas Blue up to A over Zara snd Jess Glynne?!
Why are they still shoving that awful Little Mix song down our throats?? Was listening to Macey Williams today and lo and behold that lifeless tuneless song came on!
In fairness LM are top 3 in the chart and the album will be one of the years buggest debuts.
Weiss Does this even have vocals?
The version R1 play definitely does have vocals!
Details of Radio 1’s Christmas programming including Chart of the year can be found here:- https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/xmas18radio/radio1-1xtra-asian-network
A five hour chart of the year? I guess they'll skip all 10 Greatest Showman songs
for selfish reasons I'm annoyed they're doing it on a Friday (as I'll have to miss the last 2 hours to work), but oh well, it makes sense because the weekly chart will be full of Christmas songs and they'd have barely anything to play otherwise.
can definitely see most of the musical numbers being skipped alongside maybe some of the leftovers from last year.
On the plus side, last year they did at least play the full top 40. If they can keep that again this year that would be nice, but they will be skipping a lot of 41-100 if so.
It always annoys me how Scott ends up sluming it over the holiday season while the normal presenters get 2 weeks off!
Although I heard he loves doing Xmas morning!
He probably prefers to work through Christmas and take his holidays another time.
Baby now on the Radio 1 B List
just read on twitter they added Robyn (Honey)!!
Rita Ora Live Lounge (19th November 2018)
Jax Jones & Kamille Live Lounge (20th November 2018)
Christine and the Queens Live Lounge (21st November 2018)
George Ezra Live Lounge (22nd November 2018)
George also performed "Shotgun" and "Blame It on Me", which haven't been uploaded yet.

Charlie Sloth's show will be replaced by Melvin, Rickie & Charlie from Kiss FM. Sounds like it won't be a rap show anymore!

Vote https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/6SFQL65gRvD7vxThpsbQ8D/vote-for-the-hottest-record-of-the-year-2018, closes 8th December.
Surprised Robyn and Janelle managed to make it in. I'm sure the 1975 or George Ezra will win though.
Fantastic move for Rickie, Melvin and Charlie! Their banter and relationship on air is great, they’ve been a huge asset to Kiss Breakfast over the years.
Voted for The 1975 - Bring Me the Horizon and Arctic Monkeys would be very close behind for me!
Definitely going to vote Bring Me The Horizon here but that's generally quite a good list!
Not long since 38 was the age DJs left Radio 1 rather than joined it. A welcome move - older listeners and presenters should be welcomed if they are heavily invested in the most exciting new music and sound/feel young. I keep wondering if I should go to Radio 2, then I look at the tracklist for your average daytime show and there is far too much of what I would call 60/70s wedding anniversary music. And barely any dance/hip-hop. Plus I feel Radio 1 is still speaking to me a lot more than the alternatives. Not heard this trio (think I saw one of them on Sweat the Small Stuff) before but look forward to tuning in.
Also, Missing U for my Hottest Record!
Shotgun, Missing You, Give Yourself a Try or Bebey are my Hottest Record of the Year choices!
Voted for One Kiss!
Has to be One Kiss for me, no doubt the R1 listeners will go for Arctics, George or The 1975 though.
One Kiss is brillant too, the year Calvin returned to his roots with a bang!!
Ofc I went with George Ezra!
It's a reasonable choice Harry
Live Lounge Month is over! Robyn has already been announced as the first performer in December, following her cancelled slot earlier in the month.

Ok so Annie mac is counting down her Hottest Record of the Year right now -
10) Mabel Ft Not3s Fine Line
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mabel_(singer)
9) Florence and the Machine Hunger
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunger_(Florence_and_the_Machine_song)
8) Bring Me The Horizon MANTRA
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantra_(Bring_Me_the_Horizon_song)
7) Christine & The Queens Girlfriend
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damn,_dis-moi
6) George Ezra Shotgun
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shotgun_(George_Ezra_song)
5) Calvin Harris One Kiss (Ft Dua Lipa)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Kiss_(song)
4) Arctic Monkeys Four Out Of Five
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Out_of_Five
Annie needs a cough sweet.
The 1975 are in the top 2!
Quite shocked by the number 3!!
Good to see One Kiss nice and high.
The 1975 are so winning this aren't they?
3) Years & Years Sanctify
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctify_(song)
Is it The 1975 vs Twenty One Pilots then?
THE 1975 ARE NUMBER TWO!!
Give Yourself a Try is so much better than Jumpsuit!
2) The 1975 Give Yourself A Try
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Give_Yourself_a_Try
1975 are so overrated
Jumpsuit would have been my third choice (behind Mantra and Four Out of Five which I'm delighted to see both made the top ten!) so really glad that won!
Jumpsuit is one of the better songs on Trench for me. I really wanted to like it, but so much of it sounds the same, other than a few of the standout tracks.
1) Twenty One Pilots Jumpsuit
HOTTEST RECORD OF 2018 FOR RADIO 1!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumpsuit_(song)
Surprised at the number 1 as I don't get Twenty One Pilots at all but fair play! Love most of he rest of he top 10!!
Not Jumpsuit winning I'd have preferred a predictable The 1975 win!
The 1975 is the worst and most overrated band in the world right now :/
People like them because they're different. There's absolutely nothing in the chart right now that sounds anything like Give Yourself a Try, Love It If We Made It or It's Not Living.
Hope I didn't step on any toes doing that run down just thought it would be interesting countdown, sorry at the amateur nature - I'm not a expert like the chart mods

Haha he'll be fine, think for faithful old Scott Mills on his like 20th Xmas day breakie in a row!!
Jack Saunders' of the Indie Show's top 10 albums of the year:
(in no particular order)
Arctic Monkeys - Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino
Confidence Man - Confident Music For Confident People
Parcels - Parcels
Shame - Songs of Praise
The 1975 - A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships
Middle Kids - Lost Friends
Vince Staples - FM!
The Prodigy - No Tourists
Mini Mansions - Works Every Time EP
Yungblud - 21st Century Liability
Some great albums there. Yingblud were on Sunday brunch last weekend!
Cel & Katie counted down the most played tracks of the year on their show this afternoon, here are the results:
Most Played of 2018
1. Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still (400+ plays)
2. Au/Ra & CamelPhat - Panic Room
3. George Ezra - Shotgun
4. Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises
5. Jax Jones feat. Ina Wroldsen - Breathe
6. Panic! At The Disco - High Hopes
7. Loud Luxury feat. brando - Body
8. M-22 - First Time
9. Cardi B, Bad Bunny & J Balvin - I Like It
10. Kendrick Lamar & SZA - All The Stars
11. Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss
12. A$AP Rocky feat. Skepta - Praise The Lord (Da Shine)
13. Silk City & Dua Lipa - Electricity
14. Juice WRLD - Lucid Dreams
15. MK - 17
17 has racked up a good number of plays as a recurrent. Also surprised 'Promises' has been played more than One Kiss.
For anyone wondering, Taste by Tyga and Offset is 16th, Lullaby by Sigala and Paloma Faith 17th, Bad Vibe by M.O 18th, God's Plan by Drake 19th and The Middle by Zedd, Grey and Maren Morris 20th.
I do wonder what the cut-off date was as their last.fm is a little different. I know it can be off sometimes, but I think Radio 1 have been fairly good with their scrobbling of late.
Yes surprised Promises is higher than One Kiss!
Also Panic Room so high considering it charted quite low, brillant track though!
What song has highest plays compared to playlist position?
I think this is right.
Krystal Klear - Neutron Dance [B List] (186 plays)
DJ Koze - Pick Up [C List] (112 plays)
I guess both benefitted from a lot of night time support.
Neutron Dance Amazing track!!
Really impressive for Panic Room to be second despite only scraping top 30 and released halfway through the year.
The Radio 1 last fm has been scrobbling since 2005 and The 1975 are already their 12th most played artist!
You sound surprised by that fact
Surprised that Portugal The Man is their most played, “Body”, “17” and “All the Stars” standout as tracks they have played a lot; at least to me.
Loving R1 today, it's nothing but dance BANGERS back to back.
You can also listen to Annie Macs countdown of the Hottest Record of the year by pressing the red button on your tv!
^ yeah it’s also been on iPlayer for a few weeks too
There's also a Dynasties feature with music selected by Daniel P Carter and Phil Taggart which has been on and off the red button for the past week too. Most probably on iPlayer too.
I didn't realise it had been on so long just noticed today!!
Jack Back (David Guetta) is covering for Danny Howard on Friday night! Pretty high profile for that... just not sure why he needs to use his alias
Any news on the start date for Rickie, Melvin and Charlie? Poor Dev needs to have a break
Anyone else find they're just using Radio 1 as a guide to find out what's worth adding to their playlists? This has been the case for me since Greg left teatime. I loved that show, it was glorious post-work listening and I just CANNOT get into the breakfast show. Probably because it's a bit less irreverant, there tends to be too much music/hits that I'm sick of and it badly misses Chris Smith. I would love to listen to Mills on an afternoon but it's too distracting from my work. So it just tends to be 15-30 minutes here and there. I have enjoyed the bits of teatime Grimmy I have heard but that time of day is now largely consumed by toddler-related stuff, and I'm also doing family things during Annie Mac and a lot of the weekend. So what I do is just add their daytime playlist to mine then see what's popular with on the specialist shows. I've had Spotify Mobile for many years but it seems to have made actually listening to R1 a bit redundant for me, especially with songs staying on the playlist for way too long. But I still need someone to help me find out which new music is worth bothering with, so they are doing a good job in that respect!
New C List additions if anyone wants to know early
CHVRCHES - Graffiti
Florence + The Machine - Moderation
Friend Within - The Truth
Jorja Smith - Don’t Watch Me Cry
Rudimental feat. RAY BLK & Stefflon Don - Scared Of Love
Vampire Weekend - Harmony Hall
Probably don't need to spoiler tag them as we'll know tomorrow morning anyway. Glad they're not waiting around with Harmony Hall, it's such a tune. Hopefully someone can post the playlist in my absence tomorrow morning.
Thought Graffiti had been and gone tbh. Not that I'm complaining, I love it!
It's Rajar day! https://forums.digitalspy.com/discussion/2324730/rajar-q4-2018-19/p2

With the news today that Heart is going national with breakfast, could Scott Mills be in the frame for the job as rumoured previously?
It wouldn't surprise me. There's no chance of R1 giving him Breakfast and I'm sure Heart would pay a lot to have him.
I doubt it. He knows he'll be moved on Radio 2 in years to come so has a job for as long as he wants it.
Radio 1 have announced their first Big Weekend artists right now. The location is Middlesborough.
The 1975 (headliner)
Miley Cyrus (headliner)
Little Mix
Khalid
Zara Larsson
Mabel
Miley headlining above Little Mix seems a bit strange, surely Little Mix are the bigger artist, certainly in the UK?
Hannah Montana is so much bigger than little mix
Yeah, Miley's last album didn't even go Silver, and Little Mix have waaaay more hits than her.
They must be expecting Miley to come back with a big single of her own soon, she's probably going more pop again after the flop of her last album.
Mumford & Sons and Future are the next to be announced.
Have R1 ever playlisted Future? I imagine he'll be in the 1xtra tent.
They definitely playlisted Mask Off.
I had no idea it was in Middlesborough this year!! I might actually be able to get tickets!
More names and day splits for Big Weekend!
Saturday:
Miley Cyrus (headliner)
Stormzy
Mumford & Sons
Bring Me the Horizon
Anne-Marie
Billie Eilish
Charli XCX
Future
James Arthur
Jess Glynne
Khalid
Lewis Capaldi
Sam Fender
Sigala
The Amazons
Vampire Weekend
Sunday:
The 1975 (headliner)
Little Mix
Catfish and the Bottlemen
Camelphat
Ellie Goulding
Fredo
HRVY
Jax Jones
Mabel
Pale Waves
Rita Ora
Sean Paul
Sigrid
Two Door Cinema Club
Zara Larsson
We don't know who will be on each stage yet.
They're also in alphabetical order other than the top 3, so we don't know what order they will be in.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0003ln3
Rickie, Melvin & Charlie's show begins on April 1st at 9pm.
If they're trying to get their fans from Kiss over, I doubt it.
Tune of the Week: 08/04/19-12/04/19
Adele Roberts: Gerry Cinnamon - Belter
Greg James: Alec Benjamin feat. Alessia Cara - Let Me Down Slowly
Clara Amfo: Lizzo feat. Missy Elliott - Tempo
Scott Mills: Picture This - One Drink
Jordan North: Sam Fender - Hypersonic Missiles
Phil Taggart: Amyl And The Sniffers - Monsoon Rock
Now they're getting Picture This on Radio 1?
Great to see Belter is the next Gerry Cinnamon release!
Alec has been Scott's Tune of the Week already I'm sure get that double exposure *.*
One Drink now???!!!???!=?=?
New power intros upload including Freya Ridings which I don't think I've heard on air yet
That Sigrid one is the best
The final 3 artists for Big Weekend are:
Foals
Twenty One Pilots
Dave
No news on them doing something different for the Easter Weekend which is a shame, however Bank Holiday Monday schedule is as follows (the rest of the weekend is unchanged):
04:00 - Katie Thistleton
06:30 - Matt Edmondson & Mollie King
10:00 - Adele Roberts
13:00 - Scott Mills
16:00 - Jordan North
19:00 - Jack Saunders
21:00 - Rickie, Melvin & Charlie
23:00 - Sophie K
Ah yes go on Jack! Wouldn't surprise me if the Indie Show replaces Annie Mac's Future Sounds at some point.
Lots of people complaining on Twitter that Radio 1 aren't playing Madonna's new single
It was all over online news in 2015 when they declared that she was 'too old for them'
I've checked the shows over the past few days and they've not bothered once, not even for New Music Friday on Adele's show.
I got to say Radio 1 is hugely Ageist, the Madonna & Maluma track is great
They're not ageist - they playlist who appeals to their young audience. And yes, that is largely younger artists. Madonna is not relevant to most young people.
For example, the two members of Thirty Seconds to Mars are 49 & 47 - all 3 of their last singles were playlisted by Radio 1 and they even played at Radio 1's Big Weekend last year. Because their audience is largely young people, especially with Jared's acting career as well.
Other examples: Eminem (46) & Sia (43) also have young fanbases.
yes, R1 is totally ageist and mysoginist :/ sadly
This conversation constantly goes around - Radio 1 is not ageist, can you imagine many 16 year olds choosing to listen to Madonna’s new single, it just doesn’t appeal to them. On the other hand, if Eminem released a new single, R1 would Playlist it because you can imagine that age group listening to it. Radio 1 is just trying to appeal to their target demographic. On the other hand, Radio 2 have playlisted the new Madonna song because the song is mainly appealing to older people!
I disagree 1000%, Madonna is not being played despite making music for young people and featuring a hot name that young people like
Madonna is not making music for people age 60, it's not Bette Midler territory
and the example of 30 Seconds to Mars being playlist that R1 is not only ageost but also misogynistic
I think Madonna not even going top 200 on Spotify despite placing at #3 on New Music Friday speaks volumes of how much the younger generation are interested in her. The song itself isn't remotely commercial either. There's a different argument perhaps for the last two leads, but it's not difficult to see why Radio 1 won't go for Medellín.
Radio 1 just don't playlist anything by an artist again once they've dumped them, regardless of the song. That's just the way it is unfortunately.
That's not true though. They went back to (over)playing Maroon 5 after completely dropping them for a while.
There’s a difference between playing an old Madonna song on their GH show and actually play listing her new song. R1 listeners are probably happy to bop along to Hung Up/4 Minutes for nostalgia but have no interest in her new stuff.
Maybe they aren’t playing the new Madonna song because it quite simply isn’t that good, that’s the tea
It’s fairly common knowledge that R1 have no interest in playing new Madonna songs regardless of their ‘quality’. She simply isn’t relevant to their target audience in current year.
When was the last time she was playlisted? 2008??
Unless Calvin Harris get her on his next single
That probably won't ever happen but she could potentially make her way back to R1 through a feature on a rap hit (she's got Quavo and Swae Lee on her upcoming album and previously featured on a Quavo AT).
Zero doubt in my mind that BBC radio 1 is ageist AND mysognisitic.
Madonna is the perfect example. BBC as a whole does have a known ageism bias. Especially where women are concerned. We all know it.
Despite Madonna's music often sounding like other music played on the station (often same producers etc), she's not played because the BBC Radio 1 programmers don't think their audeince listens to her. They think it's because she's too old. That's prejudice, and whilst it may be true (that younger listeners don't know her music), it doesn't make it right. A publicly funded body has a moral right to NOT discount somebody's work, just because of his/her age.
How about if BBC radio 1 was allowed to NOT play an artist because they sounded too white or too black - there would be uproar, and rightly so. Ageism is no different. BBC radio 1 controllers should be ashamed of themselves for continuing to perpetuate the myth that because someone like Madonna is 60, her music cannot be of interest to someone of 16. Its time to change that.
But as it's been said - they playlist an artist based on how relevant their music is to their audience. Madonna isn't.
Why would they play music from an artist that very few young people will care about or even know? They don't play new music from Robbie Williams, Take That, Will Young, Boy George, and lots more older artists. They aren't singling Madonna out.
This has got nothing to do with her age - but it's to do with who she targets at and who her audience is. David Guetta is 51, his music is playlisted because it appeals to young people and his music is popular.
Madonna is still lucky that they playlisted Celebration in 2009
I think female popstars are at a disadvantage because their ages are always well documented and focused on. David Guetta may be 51 but it's never been the focus of media attention where as people have always talked about Madonna's age and I think that has had an effect on radio play.
Come on people - Madonna was playlisted by radio 1 from 1984-2009 that's longer than nearly all other pop stars no matter what their gender.
And if she was a feature on the next Calvin single I'm pretty certain it would be playlisted. And on the moral right of a public service broadcaster to play all types of artists - she was A listed instantly on radio 2 (which these days prob has a bigger iTunes impact anyway lol).
I can't believe we're actually still having this conversation
Scott Mills has been doing a few Radio 2 shows recently. I’m not ready for this.....
He's been covering Radio 2 shows for quite a few years now tbf
I don't think he'll leave Radio 1 just yet. At worst he'll be dropped from afternoon's and stay on the chart show, but I doubt he'll be dropped from afternoon's for a while yet!
Maybe he has about 5 more years left until Radio 1 decide he's a Radio 2 artist.
Scott still brings in the listeners, so I doubt they'll bump him any time soon. It's a shame they've decided Matt & Mollie are better breakfast stand-ins for Greg when Scott was always great at that! We still have Annie Nightingale and David Rodigan going strong, albeit in late night slots, so they don't always just get rid due to age.
Maybe Scott didn't want to do breakfast stand in's any more? I can imagine now he's covering at Radio 2 he's a busy man
He better still continue to do his Xmas day breakfast show!
10 hour takeover happening today! 9am-7pm
Some snippets from this week's playlist
Miley is Insta-A listed.
Katy is insta-B listed.
Charli still on B
I don't think they've playlisted Cardi yet.
Miley was a given for a "thank you" A listing, given she's just headlined for them, they always massively favour their Big Weekend artists around this time.
I'm pleasantly surprised with Katy going straight to B list, they must e fairly confident in this song after 3/4 of the last songs under-performed. 365 only went C-C-B-B and wasn't insta-added.
Thanks for this, do you have any other playlist updates?
Looks like there’s abit if a clear out this week then!
Lots of people saying the uncensored version of Miley's Mothers Daughter was played yesterday on Scott Mills' show
Surprising they have the explicit version when it doesn’t strike me as a song that would be played after 9pm anyway based on the shows they have on throughout the night
Do they have swearing on the night time shows? The only late show I listen to is Jack Saunders and they always censor the songs.
Has anyone else noticed that they're suddenly spamming 'Body' by Loud Luxury? It's like it's back on the playlist again
https://onlineradiobox.com/uk/bbcradio1/playlist/3?cs=uk.bbcradio1
They've only played it once a day for the last week.
They've been playing it almost every day so far this year though.
Their https://www.last.fm/user/bbcradio1/library/tracks?date_preset=LAST_30_DAYS says it's one of their 50 most played songs in the last 30 days!
Ah, that's quite an interesting page!
Their most played artists of the last year are:
1. Ariana Grande (1,100)
2. The 1975 (1,069)
3. Drake (899)
4. George Ezra (894)
5. Little Mix (776)
6. Dave (775)
7. Lewis Capaldi (775)
8. Bring Me the Horizon (729)
9. Twenty One Pilots (729)
10. Billie Eilish (702)
Sam Fender at #11. I doubt it's 100% accurate, but a good indication.
Apparently there's a TBC straight to A list on R1 on Friday...
Any guesses who?
Ed Sheeran's song with Khalid is out on Friday right?
It is - though it could also be Shawn & Camila if that's out this week?
On the topic of Loud Luxury, Radio 1 have like a silver/recurrent playlist that doesn't get published where songs are re-added onto rotation. They're usually recent/no more than 2 years old; suppose they've got to give their playlist that little bit of variety.
Yeh Lewis is tight, although some of the silver songs are older than 2 years sometimes as old as 8-9 years!
Have just seen there's another new Stormzy single released on Friday so it might be that.
Should wait a little longer until VP dies down!
Someone at the Graham Norton recording on Reddit has said the new Stormzy song is more like BBYG, and had a choir backing.
Yeah, my money's on it being Stormzy rather than Ed.
I’m not here for Friday Dance Anthems being renamed as Party Anthems but there ya go that’s happened today, a mixture of current and classic dance anthems.
Is James Purnell that former Blairite MP?
https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/official-charts-first-look-to-offer-early-glance-at-the-official-singles-chart-every-sunday__26823/
BBC Radio 1 is going to have a new show on Sundays at 6pm starting this Sunday called The Official Chart: First Look, which will focus on the top 20 and play the full top 10 from the chart update based on only Friday and Saturday's data! This should be interesting.
https://www.musicweek.com/media/read/bbc-radio-1-to-launch-first-glance-sunday-chart-show-this-week/076743
Another article on it here from MW. This is definitely a good move considering Radio 1's Most Played is what used to be on at that time!
This will be very interesting considering only one day of streaming data will be included, which should give new releases an advantage, particularly songs released physically - something like Shockwave could have appeared at, or close to, number one a couple of weeks back.
Sounds great to me. Anything to try and build up interest in the official chart again.
I guess if this does happen they’ll scrap the midweek update on Mondays
Tune of the Weekend 26/07/19-28/07/19
Lil Tecca - Ransom
Anyone else think R1 seem to have unofficially dropped the 15-29 thing? I'm 36 and was greeted with multiple bangers from when I was seven this morning, like Dirty Cash and Groove is in the Heart. And I loved it. Plus, was great to hear the likes of Regulate and X Gon' Give It To Ya yesterday. Radio 2 are still terrified of a lot of 1990s dance and most hip-hop hits, and I never feel 'at home' or comfortable when I am listening to it. I wish R1 would just come out and say "**** off commercial radio, why shouldn't we compete with you?" and just carry on doing what it is doing, which is playing Top 40 hits, current bangers that won't chart but fit the tone of the station and a load of old songs that still sound pretty youthful and vibrant regardless of their vintage. And Radio 2 can focus on pop, commercial rock and the most inoffensive M People and Glynne-esque dance from all eras I guess. This age thing clearly isn't working when so many people in their 30s and 40s and even older have grown up on the kind of massive rap and dance hits R2 are still ignoring, whilst R1 happily plays those songs.
The bits of https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/2qNJsnjYFvbLrK9CZ0CfYfM/radio-2-new-music-playlist that aren't on R1 anyway aren't my cup of anything! I seriously don't want to hear what the Kaiser Chiefs are up to now, 11 years after their last real hit. Although I have heard that Emeli Sande single. Is she actively trying to sound boring and middle-aged?
First artists confirmed for Live Lounge Month (2nd-26th) September:
Taylor Swift
Sam Fender
Lana Del Rey
Lewis Capaldi (The Lewis Capaldi Symphony, 26th September)
yay for Lana <3
Lol the Capaldi Symphony sounds grand!
On Monday (26th August), Radio 1's later shows are moving to daytime, just for the 1 day.

10:00 - Rickie, Melvin & Charlie
13:00 - Pete Tong
16:00 - Indie Show with Jack Saunders
19:00 - Rock Show with Daniel P Carter
What a strange idea! Although I guess the Rock Show hasn't moved very far from where it used to be.
What a fantastic idea!!
Full Live Lounge month lineup confirmed:

Tuesday 3rd: Friendly Fires
Wednesday 4th: YUNGBLUD
Thursday 5th: Charli XCX & Christine and the Queens

Mark Ronson & Yebba will be class in the live lounge!
ouch no please, can Lana sing two days
Bank Holiday Monday is a specialist takeover day
7am Phil Taggart
10am Rickie, Melvin & Charlie
1pm Pete Tong
4pm Jack Saunders
7pm Daniel p carter
I've missed most of the takeover but was in time to hear Pete Tong and his show sounds perfect in this weather
Have only listened to Tong and Saunders but it has been absolutely fire this afternoon. Obviously you wouldn't want this that regularly as the novelty would wear off but they should have more Nighttime Takeovers on Bank Holiday Mondays as there's only so many times you can say "Sk8r Boi! I haven't heard this for ages!".
Also, Tong sounds nowhere near 59. Long may he continue.
Interesting to hear recent singles from bands I was once massively into including ones R1 once loved on daytime. I was wondering if the lack of daytime R1 play was making me prejudiced and making these songs seem less credible and important but no, Salted Caramel Ice Cream and Hungry Child probably didn't deserve to make the playlist as they are very meh. Not that they were ever into Metronomy much. Yay, love the fact Smells Like Teen Spirit is still a R1 song. Will never get old!
Hungry Child is amazing!
It's been a while since we did playlist predictions, as it's more difficult to anticipate when they will playlist stuff these days... but here's what I think might get added tomorrow:
Sam Feldt - Post Malone
Post Malone - Circles (and surely that would be the first time two new additions have shared the same artist and title!)
Tones And I - Dance Monkey (desperately hoping...)
Regard - Ride It
Do we think they'll add the new Ava Max? They might wait to see if it starts climbing the charts.
Have they playlisted Wiley and Lizzo [Good as Hell] yet?
Ooh ok ty! Did they playlist Truth Hurts?
I do wonder if they will support the final single from Bring and The Horizons current album; Sugar, Honey, Ice & Tea. It's been played a lot on he evening shows.
I hope Torn gets playlisted tomorrow, otherwise she’ll be a radio 2 flop
Rickie, Melvin and Charlie make their proper daytime debut this week (recent nighttime takeover aside) as they cover for Scott Mills which means their 9pm show will be simulcast with 1Xtra instead bringing across Twin B, Jamz Supernova, the 1Xtra Residency and Seani B.
Cel Spellman and Katie Thistleton will be doing this week’s chart on Friday
Early Weekend Breakfast also launched over the weekend starting at 4am on a Friday and 5am on a Sat/Sun with Arielle Free taking on presenting duties.
https://radiotoday.co.uk/2019/10/scott-mills-and-chris-stark-get-saturday-mornings-on-bbc-radio-5-live/
So is he like not having a day off at all until Christmas?
Half Term schedule changes from Monday
Katie Thistleton is covering for Adele Roberts
Jordan North in for Scott Mills
Phil Taggart in for Annie Mac (Danny Howard is covering Friday)
Adele Roberts is looking after Rickie, Melvin and Charlie's show
Eats Everything is in for Danny Howard on Friday
Kenny Allstar is covering for Tiffany Calvert on Saturday for The Rap Show
Frank Carter is covering for Daniel P Carter on Sunday night for The Rock Show
I think they could have tested the waters by having Cel and Katie standing in for Scott on the chart show recently as I reckon Scott will at least give up the chart show next year to accommodate his increasing non-Radio 1 commitments.
Radio 1 boss Ben Cooper to leave the BBC - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-50141761
I think he’s done a fantastic job in shaking up the station and bringing in some fresh talent in the likes of Jordan North, Arielle Free and Katie Thistleton and refreshing some of the long-standing presenters too giving them new shows/slots etc
What I’m worried about now is someone blundering in and messing up what’s good. I genuinely cannot fault their current lineup apart from maybe Clara but that’s more of a personal dislike to her presenting style
Maybe Aled will take over seeing as he’s already Head of Programming anyway
Its not the lineup that's the problem for me since he arrived its basically become more and more like Capital FM and hasn't done enough to keep its uniqueness imo. If its not reducing the playlist down in songs its rotating more of the same songs on each show and having less indie on the playlist and especially the A-List. TBF not sure if that's his fault or if he doesn't have a lot of input but its a problem.
But they expanded the playlist in 2016 to include more tracks?
And they play a hell of a lot of indie still on their daytime playlist, PLUS Annie Mac and Jack Saunders have weeknight shows pretty much dedicated to the genre????
Radio 1 actually haven’t changed their playlist rotation at all. True they recycle the same tracks like any other radio station, but that’s always been the case.
If you check the playlist from just 15 years ago (I know before Coopers time) it's a lot different and more expansive. The A List used to have 20 songs alone.
They play ALOT more indie than the commercial stations but it's normally Dermot Kennedy or Sam Fender and that's it.
Great to see Gregg James increase his figures in today’s Rajar.
From Radio Today:- https://radiotoday.co.uk/2019/10/rajar-q3-2019-london-and-national-brands-round-up/
Live Lounge Collection is out November 8th and features 30 tracks from this year and also classic performances too
Don't know about anyone else but I never find myself going back to listen to old live lounges. They're great to listen to at the time but I'd never buy a whole album of them.
people on the Lanaboards forum been claiming all week that Norman FR the single will be added to R1's playlist this Friday
but not sure can they know it so much in advance?
Disc 2 of that Live Lounge Collection does actually sound pretty good!
Living for this - 4. Miley Cyrus - Summertime Sadness
As we’re at the end of the decade Radio 1 are hosting a decade of dance Friday 20th December from 7pm.

Hopefully we’ll get more news on R1’s Christmas schedule soon.
Winners from the Student Radio Awards will get to http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/student-radio-awards-winners-hannah-sackville-bryant-joel-mitchell-to-cover-scott-mills-on-bbc-radio-1s-the-official-chart__27998/, really nice to see Radio 1 opening the door for this kind of thing!
I'm so jealous of them! Agreed that it's a fantastic idea.
Great way to get their foot in the door. The next JK & Joel maybe?
I'm sure they'd like to be better than them two!
So here is the BBC Radio 1 Top 50 most played songs of 2019 for those with interest of what got played and how much they got played. All the information that I have included has come from the BBC Radio 1 Last.fm page which is avaliable online. The infomation takes all tracks played during the daytime period and nighttime periods and as well as songs played on simulcasts of 1Xtra shows. As always there may be some missing or incorrect data as some plays may have not been recorded due to failures with the scrobles (I.e. Radio 1 failed to record down the songs played during their 2019 Anthems show yesterday so I have added a play to those which did get played but did not get recoreded down) but the data below will give a mostly clear idea as to which tracks was played the most in 2019. Also inlcuded is the most played songs for each month.
NOTE: I have combined some tracks with mutiple versions, as you can see below. The reason I did this was because both versions of the tracks recieved regular spot plays and are basically the same song anyway (I.e. Combined both the amount of plays Taylor Swift - Lover and the remix featuring Shawn Mendes was played) so I decided it would be best to combine anyway. The uncombined version that was most played will be listed below and I do make a note of where they would have been in the chart when they weren't combined. I didn't however combine dance remixes of any of the tracks.

First thoughts on the data is lol at Body and 17 being in the top 30 despite being playlisted in 2018/17. Clearly got lots of spot plays during daytime and the dance shows. Great to see Sub Focus up there in the top 10 and for Joel Corry for making the top 20 despite not getting A-Listed.
insane amount of plays for 'Desire' considering it wasn't even a hit but yay! 'Breathe' top 20 is also great to see.
as if '17' is top 40 for the year with its 2017 release date too.
Am I blind or are the 1975 not in the top 50?
Surprised Catfish and Sam Fender aren't higher but glad Vampire Weekend are there.
I'm just now catching up on the "20 years of Radio 1 Anthems" that they did from Boxing Day to New Year's Eve, and I'm really enjoying it! So many songs that you never hear anymore and I'm actually discovering songs I missed out on at the time! I know we were disappointed when this was announced instead of a proper end-of-decade countdown, but this was a great alternative.
Playlist predictions for tomorrow:
I don’t usually do this but there’s so much stuff that’s out that Radio 1 doesn’t have on their playlist at the moment, here’s what I think they’ll add tomorrow:
• Eminem - Godzilla (straight to a List) they’ll surely add this if it’s got a good chance of being number 1 tomorrow
• Calvin Harris - Whichever song is more mainstream (straight to a list) They always insta add new Calvin and I don’t see this one being any different
• J Hus - Big Conspiracy (straight to c list) They insta added him on the a list last year with Must Be. I don’t think that will happen this time but I still think an insta add will happen
• Hayley Williams - Simmer (c list) Radio 1 love Paramore so I think this will immediately get lots of support from them.
• Digdat ft. Aitch - Ei8ht Mile (c list) I think this song is doing too well in the charts for them to ignore
• Georgia - 24 hrs (c list) Another artist that radio 1 loves, Greg James’ tune of the week last week too means it’s surely going to get added at some point soon
• Doja Cat - Say So (c list) For a song that’s not on the playlist, this seems to have been played lots over the last few days.
• Tame Impala - Lost In Yesterday (c list) Got a feeling this might be added too
• Jonas Brothers - What a man gotta do (c list) Tune of the weekend last weekend makes me think that this will probably be added this week
I think those are pretty spot on predictions actually. Is the Calvin Harris single definitely out this week?
Those predictions look pretty good. If Calvins out he will def be added straight away. Not so sure about Eminem maybe an instant B List add because I'm not sure they look at him as A List material any longer due to how far into his career he is. 'Fall was B-Listed for Apr 5/6 weeks and 'Lucky You' was C-Listed for 3/4 weeks.
There's also a lot of instant add songs there, not sure radio 1 will go that mad but I would love it. Tame Impala def will as their albums out on the 14/2/20, 3 weeks away.
I expect something from Eminem will be added but it might be 'Darkness' instead of 'Godzilla' because that is meant to be the official single, 'Godzilla' has just taken off of its own accord because of being Juice WRLD's first posthumous release and the only really good song on the album.
Mind, I'm not sure 'Darkness' is really a particularly radio friendly song
At one point I thought the Ed collab was the official single - so now I'm really confused to what actually is (not that 'official' singles really mean much these days).
You should do it again next week and see if you can improve your score.
Radio 1’s Big Weekend is coming to Dundee from the 22nd to the 24th of May. These are the confirmed artists so far:
• AJ Tracey
• Biffy Clyro
• Calvin Harris
• Camila Cabello
• Dua Lipa
• Harry Styles
Nice to see Biffy on there, I’m assuming they must be releasing new music soon. They also haven’t announced if any of those are headliners however I would expect that Calvin would headline the Friday night dance stage and possibly Dua and Harry will headline the other two days?
Wow class to see Biffy Clyro on the bill which means there's a good chance he will be supported for yet another era by Radio 1st daytime playlist. I would say Biffy should be one of the headliners I would think?
Has the big weekend not been in Dundee already quite recently?
Given it's in Scotland as well I wouldn't be surprised to see Biffy headline
Radio 1's Big Weekend was in Dundee in 2006, if that counts as recently?
I'm just thinking of the lead singer but yes your right of course!
Coming to my home town *.*
R1 have played Baby by Four Tet 6 times since it was released on Friday!
Isn’t that a lot for a new song that’s not even playlisted?
They played it daytime once according to Lastfm x
Playlist predictions for tomorrow (not as optimistic as last week )
• Dua Lipa - Physical (straight to a List) I’m hoping this is as good as I’ve heard people say it is!
• Georgia - 24 hrs
• Tame Impala - Lost in yesterday - Going to try both of these again as I still think they both might be added
• Tom Grennan - This is the Place - Think I might be a bit early with this but I’ll hope anyway
• SAINt JHn - Roses (Imanbak remix) - Adele Roberts’ Tune of the week and nearly entering the top 40 now
• Mac Miller - Blue World - this has been played quite a few times considering it isn’t yet playlisted
• Becky Hill - Better Off Without You - Now on the verge of the Top 40 and also had some spot plays here and there
• Tones and I - Never Seen the Rain - This one I’m least convinced about. I still think it’s playlisting might be a couple of weeks away.
Does anyone else have anything that they think might be added as well/instead?
R1 hated Dance Monkey and added it super late, sure they'll pass on the new one
It was Scott Mills’ Tune of the week this week so they’re happy to support it at least.
It's also definitely a less polarising song than DM.
I do wonder if Tune of the Week is a genuine choice by the DJs though. I’d like to think it is which would then mean it shouldn’t influence playlist adds
Playlist predictions:
• Anne-Marie - Birthday
• Declan McKenna - Beautiful Faces
• Lil Nas X (Feat. Nas) - Rodeo
• JP Saxe (Feat. Julia Michaels) - If the world was ending
• Mac Miller - Blue World
• Joel Corry - Lonely
• DaBaby - BOP
• MK - One Night
Hope they insta-add Anne-Marie but they might wait a week or two. Hope they add Declan too although they didn't playlist 'British Bombs' (not sure if that was an official single though). I'd say Joel Corry is a dead cert to be added tomorrow.
British Bombs wasn't an official single!
I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if they didn't think Anne-Marie was worthy of an instant add, she had a really big debut era after all and this is her first release as lead artist since that!
think the JP Saxe/Julia Michaels song is too much R2 territory, sadly cos it's an amazing track, my #1 this year
sure Anne Marie is insta-added, lately they're adding anyone, people much less popular than Anne Marie
Yeh JP Saxe is a decent track, hopefully radio 2 will take a punt or it becomes a hit and they have no choice!
Just the instant B-List add for Anne-Marie Bjork will be glad to hear!
Also Bieber only C-Listed And Slipknot Record of the weekend!
Tune of the Week: 10th-13th February 2020
Adele Roberts: Martin Solveig & Roy Woods - Juliet & Romeo
Greg James: L Devine - Boring People
Clara Amfo: Khalid x Disclosure - Know Your Worth
Scott Mills: Joel Corry - Lonely
Nick Grimshaw: Gorillaz feat. slowthai & Slaves - Momentary Bliss
