One of Kylie’s most ICONIC tracks ‘Better The Devil You Know’ has turned 30 (Well Kylie is celebrating the fact despite being a bit premature). The video has been remastered in HD and Kylie has uploaded a ‘Behind The Scenes’ video.
The song was robbed of the #1 spot by Adamski’s ‘Killer’ UK Chart Run: 5-2-2-3-6-15-24-31-40-62. This post has been edited by ___∆___: Apr 30 2020, 02:08 PM |

One of her very best! It's bursting with euphoria, the energy is so infectious and its explosive chorus promises to have you on the dance floor. The video is wonderful, perhaps simple but it matches the joy of the song and debuted a much more liberated Kylie.
I wish she'd reuse the original production when performing live as it's aged gracefully and nothing can match it - the opening to Showgirl proves that! |

The song is like a good whiskey.
Aged beautifully, and treasured by fans. |

Still love the devil, one of the best and most important singles from kylie, i love hearing it when im in a pub or on the radio its like vintage kylie. Showgril original is my fave live performance of it, its the nearest to the original. For while i liked the version from the Fever tour but dont enjoy it as much now.

Never gets old full stop but its a song that always goes down well in pubs and clubs, i think its a kylie song that many people who arent fans do like.

Ya its one of her signature songs, its always right up there with my fave ever Kylie songs, this, what do i have to and all the lovers are the 3 big Kylie ones for but better the devil you know was a huge moment in her career and it stands out more for that.

The song lost Kylie some of her fans but gained her a very lengthy career.

Better the devil you know is strange in that at the time the song appealed to people who didnt really get into the music from kylie and enjoy yourself. My sister was never really a kylie fan back then, she became a passing fan over the years and at the time i remember her loving better the devil, and it was the same in school, i went to a mixed school and some people were like oh kylie actually has a decent song for a change and the general feedback on radio etc was all positive. It was only years later i got sales info and i was really disappointed by its sales and even now i do be surprised it isnt one of her biggest streaming hits as the song seems fairly popular all round.

I still remember this getting its premier on a Saturday morning show - I was at the time because it seemed so different for Kylie, looking back on it I guess it was progression but it was still pure pop.
I love that this has stood the test of time and was also a #4 hit for Steps in 1999 proving what a pop powerhouse the track is. |

I liked the song from first listen and never went off it, im the same with what do i have to do and all the lovers. I really liked the video aswell, i remember seeing it for the first time on an Irish music show at the time called the beatbox which was on, on sunday mornings. Better the devil is def a song that deserved to go number 1 but i think most people think it was a number 1. Its def stood the test of time, i do like the Steps version aswell but much prefer Kylies. id like if some of kylies other songs were covered by acts aswell as it gives exposure to the originals.Better the devil always gets such a huge reaction at her shows.

I detest the Steps version.
Although having said that, when I saw them in 2017 I really enjoyed it live so perhaps it's just that version they recorded of it. |

The steps version is much flatter than Kylies, but i find when i separate the songs the steps version isnt bad, i think there were other kylie album tracks that steps should have covered as better the devil you know was too much of a Kylie classic. Steps could have prob got the hit kylie didnt with turn it into love if they covered it. Hazel Dean only had a minor hit with it so Steps could have taken it top 10. on their most recent tours the live version of better the devil you know has improved alot.

I always felt at the time that 'Say You'll Be Mine' was the most played/known of the double A-side tbh. |

Say youll be mine was def the lead single on that double a, i much prefer say youll be mine and think it would have performed just aswell if better the devil you know wasn't paired with it.

Would Better the Devil You Know have been less or more successful if it wasn't selected for lead single?
I believe What Do I Have To Do was initially pencilled in for lead single but changed their minds before release. |

I believe What Do I Have To Do was initially pencilled in for lead single but changed their minds before release. It was totally the right single to lead with even though at the time it seemed a bit risqué for a squeaky clean pop star (How times have changed ) I think it would have still been as big if it had been released as single #2. |
