I knew they were going to go hard but holy SHIT. That was one of the most disturbing and brutal episodes of any TV show I've ever watched and I've watched a LOT of stuff. Still need time to process it.

With regards to the deaths, I thought they were the right choices. I feel both had run their course and didn't real have much more to offer.
I'm ready for Carol to come back in the season finale and save the day once again. |

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is outstanding! He is the first character who makes me feel nauseous every time he's on screen. I havent processed it all properly so im gonna rewatch it before ep 2, but I loved it. Extremely brutal and it's surprisingly good to see Rick thrown completely off guard! Interested to see how and if he'll be able to "bounce back"!

I wasn't really surprised by the two deaths (and still don't really think it was worth the six month wait to find out), it fit in line with the comics and both were significant characters that would fracture the group but had come to the end of their arc somewhat.
I definitely was surprised how utterly dark that episode was, Negan is already the scariest villain they've had and he's only been in it for one full episode! Was a hell of a lot to take in but definitely the most emotionally impactful episode in a long time. It really is hard to see how they can come back from this at all after that (though they were getting far too cocky last season, so this was somewhat always coming). Need to see what Carol & Morgan make of this next week. This post has been edited by Chez Wombat: 24th October 2016, 02:46 PM |

My god at that opening episode, so brutal, going to have nightmares tonight Jeffrey Dean Morgan is absolutely brilliant, and probably the best rogue character in the history of the series.

Some of those tweets of offended/disgusted fans saying they're now done with the show OKAY THEN, I BELIEVE YOU! |

Damn, I will miss Abraham. He's the sort of character you could keep around just for the one-liners. Predictable of the episode to tease a bit but it did help with the adrenaline.
Negan is making a good impact though, I have a feeling I will enjoy him if he keeps it fresh while still being menacing. One thing I did really like was the glimpse of the wishful future, means there's something there to imagine if you're soft like me and just don't like characters dying at all. |

17 million total viewers, 8.4 rating in the 18-49 demo. The series high is 8.7. So amazing for a show in its 7th season!

I won't miss Glenn. He had to go this time - too many near misses to be believed. I truly wouldn't miss Daryl either now though. I suppose as well - if he'd kept schtum Glenn may still have made it to another episode or two.
I will miss Abraham terribly though! I find Negan too one-dimensional. I suppose he was justified in getting revenge (although did it have to be so messy?) as Rick and his gang had murdered some of his people in their beds! Can't wait to see Carol again! |

I only just got what the title of this episode is referring to, after noticing that it was a rather strange title... and it's only because my youngest brother is currently watching season 1 and I caught the last part of the last episode with him. 'The Day Will Come When You Won't Be' is what Jenner says to Rick after Rick thanks him for letting them escape. Chills (and impressed that they called that far back).
I did noticed Abraham's slightly unusual stance with his hands, that's really cool too. |

Even Fox UK had to cut some of the violence for their 9pm showing |

For anyone who watched the UK version and wants to see the uncesored death scene here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzEDox42k-c
Warning: Having watched it I can understand the reason it was left off, the extra graphic parts are pretty horrible so watch at your own risk. That said it is 18 material and pretty brutal anyway even after the cut so I can't believe Glenn's final words were cut out for the UK version. And finally The Walking Dead gives us a character who appears (for now at least) not to be a nihilistic, violence prone, insular, broken, miserable, murderous psychopath.
Can Negan not just Lucille all of Rick's lot, so we can stay with these guys more? It's the first real glimmer of hope the show has given us since Hershel's farm. It won't last, because Walking Dead - but can we enjoy it for a bit? |
