We all suspected it after it was pushed on album release week, but Dua has now confirmed she's filmed the music video for New Rules on Twitter and says it is the best music video she's ever done!

What an absolutely brilliant video, I love it!!

I like the song too, not my favourite from her but certainly better than 'Lost in Your Light'. The only part I can't fully warm to is the post-chorus/drop/whatever it is.

Idk why but I think she deleted and re-uploaded, I noticed on my Apple Music that it was saying the songs were unavailable so I deleted and re-added the album, idk why that happened and I don't think the album is any different?

She's corrected the tracklist! The deluxe edition on UK iTunes had a different tracklist to the standard + worldwide editions, they've fixed it now thankfully.

Hmm... It's Ok. I'm not loving it though (the song). The video is very good, if a bit overrated. I dunno, something is just lacking for me with her and I really can't put my finger on what it is!

I've decided I'll just give her album a go tomorrow, see if that helps out a bit more. I just think she's overrated in general tbh. Like, she has some good songs, but nowhere near the levels that bloggers/forumers like others to believe, imo

Ahh, the song took a while to click but the second I saw that video made me fall in love. It really is a brilliant video, I love the repeat scene during the chorus and how it slightly changes each time.

'Last Dance' is also my favourite Dua song to date! Both the sang part and production in the chorus are lush.

I'm taking to 'New Rules' really quickly also! It was already better than 'Blow Your Mind' and the Miguel collab on listen #1. My top 3 of Last Dance/Be The One/Hotter Than Hell are all just ridiculously strong, this does feel like at least a 9/10 moment from her. Bravo Dua.

(Also, my brother bought the vinyl for her album and I cannot get over how pretty the coloured records are *.*)

I feel like this was one of the rushed on songs they added after the millionth push back, but thank god tbh To think this has an actual shot at #1 when you think about is INSANE, but for a 7th single even top 5 or top 10 and the huge hit it will surely be is still incredible and should set her up well for next era. I knew it was too good not to smash but I'm still bowled over by how well it's doing so quickly.

I'm so happy with how this is properly taking off. She felt somewhat destined to join the likes of Marina as a "nearly but not quite" kind of name but this being a big hit (and righfully so) sets her up very well for the future.

I'm also so glad that this proves that a music video is still important in days where they seem to getting abandoned.

Don't think I ever posted about the video in here but it's stellar. The fabulous choreography keeps me hooked throughout the entire duration, it's so satisfying as well as the warm feeling of unity conveyed. What a way to sell the song.

Dua's career in the singles chart thus far has been such a rollercoaster, with Be The One/Last Dance not doing much, then Hotter Than Hell and Blow Your Mind (Mwah) going top 40 for her, then Be The One actually turning out to be a successful re-release giving her a top 10, as well as 'No Lie' also going top 10 on top of the Garrix duet doing well, then the Miguel duet flopping alongside album release, and now here we are again with this making waves!! I would be over the moon if this could smash all the way to #1. Its performance is already mighty impressive for a post album-single so late after 'Be The One' was first trying to crack the chart.

Yeah I'm sort of the same. Always found the video stellar but felt the song was only good in a way you'd expect the reserves/post-album single of a newly launched artist to be, and in particular the chorus underwhelmed at first. The sustained hype around it kept me coming back though and I fully understand how special it is now, especially its message and the perfectly complementary visuals.

The overall release and reaction put me in mind of 'Fancy' in that the isolated song initially doesn't scream smash, but the fact it's bang on trend sonically, comes with building artist momentum, and is accompanied by a superstar video means it transcends audiences/markets with ease and just keeps growing. Definitely feels like a 'moment' on a large scale so will be exciting to see how Dua progresses beyond it. I'd imagine there'll be a huge desire to replicate the winning formula so hopefully that doesn't compromise the subsequent output too much.

Nah that does make sense, I agree somewhat, in a year like this it feels like such an anomaly of a #1 They've all been big established artists or at least featuring a big established artists, like Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles or Justin Bieber who could get virutally anything to #1 pre-album because of all the hype around them, so it's been so exciting to follow New Rules building naturally and getting bigger and bigger.

Symphony didn't fall much when it got taken off 59p after being #1, so I'd expect this to be the same! A couple of red updates on Friday but it'll stabilise eventually, it's an established hit now.

Be The One was a hit in NZ but not as successful in Australia since Liam mentioned it only reached #20 and a gold certification.

Speaking of which New Rules already reach #6 the same peak for Be The One as her highest peak singles in Australia.

Sadly I think it will stalled at #2 for both countries because LWYMMD still did pretty well on iTunes and Spotify there despite the gaps on Spotify generally getting closer.

XF ran for five seasons over here and was quite successful iirc, it hasn't been on for years though. A performance will get it's iTunes sales high but what matters more than any one performance is good streaming playlists and I think she's guaranteed that after New Rules!

I saw the UK chart run for New Rules, amazing how fast it's climbed and how sustained it's been since when you consider how god damn SLOW the charts are across the world.

Yeah, you definitely can't fault her vocals although she did look a bit awkward. I liked that they re-interpreted the music video though, a very clever idea for the first(!) TV performance of it. A shame she didn't have an interview but it was a very awkward programme in general, Mary J Blige looked utterly embarrassed to be sitting besides the 'comedians' on the couch.

It was all rather awkward if I'm being honest. The intro bit with her against the really bright lighting just didn't work for me and I felt she was quite flat with little to no presence on the stage. I found the dancers quite awkward too especially where she didn't join in with some of the video reenactments which I understand is probably because it's hard doing that and singing live (although I'm still sure she mimed in places towards the end).

I hate being critical because shes easily one of the artists I've discovered this year who I love and think is very upcoming which is why it's a shame

I read in the Spice forum (thx Jay xx) that '2 Become 1' didn't reach their top 10 until June the following year!

Edit: oh and in regards to this song, tbh I don't think I've seen a single good (or great) performance of it tbh. Like they've been "ok" I guess, but from her videos and just her general aura, I feel like she should be giving us fantastic performances (I don't mind the odd "not good" performance, she's only human) but I feel she isn't as consistent as her potential suggests. (if that makes sense lmao)

I definitely agree with all of that in the second half of your post, Jonjo! I know everyone is raving about her at the moment but this song is so much better than she actually is tbh. The song is SO exciting and I absolutely love it but everything about her/her aura/her personality/her performances/her style is so plain and unexciting. At the moment, she just seems like she was lucky to get a song that is a SMASH but it would be a smash for anyone. She's yet to give me anything that actually excites me about her or the rest of her music if you get me. Probably gonna get shot for this

Agreed about her as a performer and growing into it. I just find it slightly jarring that in her videos (not just this one) she oozes so much charisma and personality and seems like she performs well, but it doesn't translate so much into her live performances, for me at least and it's frustrating coz I want to be more of a fan than I am atm . But I understand this seems to be a confidence issue and that her confidence will grow more to my expectations, the more times she performs on high profile slots etc...

I think I'm just being overly critical coz I don't love her as much as I should. Her music is top notch and there is bags of potential in her, but there is something missing that I'm not completely getting atm and it's really frustrating me haha.

Oops - basically "Be the One" was a top 5 hit on the sales-only chart and "Hotter than Hell" was top 10 so streaming worked against them whilst "New Rules" was 'only' #2 but was heavily boosted (and still is being boosted) by streaming. I'm interested to see whether this will continue to future singles.

Great that she won Best Single, obviously incredibly deserving but I was worried it would go to Ed.

I'm thinking #11 is going to be her peak which is rather frustrating, she's managing to increase on airplay but she's stalled on iTunes (now #26) and Spotify (now #24) but she's #7 on radio with a rather impressive audience and managed to get a +5million audience increase today which was the third highest behind 'Havana' and 'Perfect'. I don't think she's done much promotion in United States which is rather disappointing!

Their charts confuse me so much. New Rules peaked on iTunes and Spotify ages ago, and it's down to 27/39 on those now. Yet's peaking on the chart now...Radio really holds that much effect?

I can't at how messy US charts are. New Rules is 45 on US iTunes and 55 on US Spotify...yet it's charting at #6? Why couldn't it have peaked months ago when it was actually popular with the public. Their chart system is bogus and this feels disingenuous.
