Chart Analysis



Following a busy week last with many BJSC songs entering the chart, we have somewhat of a normal week this time with just two new entries in the top 40 (both climbers) and five new entries in the top 100. Calvin Harris of course holds on to #1 with 'Feels' for a fourth week. In comparison, 'This Is What..' spent six weeks at the top and 'My Way' spent seven. It is entirely dependant on how soon Avicii releases new material as to how long Calvin remains at the top though, as it seems inevitable that any new Avicii song will be heading straight for the top spot. Expect this sometime next month, perhaps as an early birthday present for me.

Jax Jones holds steady at #2 with 'Instruction' for a fourth week as well but the rest of the top five are all climbers. Last week's highest new entry from Ramin Djawadi, 'Game of Thrones', with help from KSHMR and The Golden Army climbs 3 places to #3. Duke Dumont and Gorgon City finally crack the top five with 'Real Life', also up 3 places to #4. Following an even slower climb to the top end of the chart, DJ Licious with 'I Hear You Calling' climbs 3 places to #5. Falling out of the top five are Lucas & Steve, TheFatRat and DJ Khaled, down to #6-8 respectively. John Gibbons is a non-mover at #9 and Calvin Harris' 'Rollin' re-enters the top ten at #10.

There are no new songs in the top ten this week but there is a strong outside contender at the moment. Sonny Fodera climbs 11 places to... #11, with 'Always Gonna Be'. It follows a number of weeks spent in the bottom half of the top 40 and serves as further proof that songs can take a long time to peak on this chart. Also peaking this week is French Montana, up to #22 with 'Unforgettable'. Bassjackers and Lucas & Steve return to their current peak of #28 with 'These Heights'. Vitalic improves nine places off his debut, up to #29 with 'Tu Conmigo'. Tiësto/KSHMR and Throttle remain at their current peaks of #30-31 respectively. Hight jump 5 places to #32 with 'Runway'.

Let's now look at the two songs entering the top 40. At #33 is 'More Than Friends', the debut single from James Hype which features prominent dance vocalist Kelli-Leigh. Last week it was at #49 and two weeks ago it was at #94 so it's been climbing very quickly, perhaps it's a future top 10 contender? Also climbing into the top 40 are J Balvin and Willy William at #36 with 'Mi Gente', up nine places off the debut. It is the first hit for Balvin and the second for William (following #10 hit 'Ego' from last year).

For now, Calvin's album tracks are still going strong as none of them that were in last week's top 40 drop out. The two dropouts come from BJSC entries from deadmau5 and Leon Else. Future top 40 contenders come from Arcade Fire, Nora En Pure, Irina Rimes, Kamferdrops, Enrique Iglesias and Dua Lipa who are all sitting comfortably in the top 50.
