Hoping I may have a shot at at least the top 20 this month? ~

Manifesting a great result for Sewerslvt. I'm looking forward to seeing how all of the top 6 of my votes do (they're all songs that I think could potentially do well but not exactly safe hits, Sewerslvt seems like the most likely of them (#spoilers for that being in my top 6) to be in a 'niche appeal to victory' scenario I think)

Just catching up with what's already been announced, and wow so many things I wasn't expecting!

First of all, thanks so so so much to Suedeonia and Jadakissnia for giving us 18 for the first time! And I'm also stunned that the first ever points we've received from Hushkanukia are as high as a 15, glad you all enjoyed it!

Here are the votes from Utopia...

Unusually there are no discoveries towards the top this month as our most listened to song of recent weeks, one of the best songs by a long time favourite act and an old song not heard in years were all present. It's a second consecutive 18 for FSR Rontvia and Self Esteem, it's too early to say 'I Do This All The Time' is the song of the year but it's almost certainly one of the two best released so far. Zanmatony are this months runner up reminding us of an old song that's seen significant googling to identify a 90s indie cassette it appeared on, and 00274e get their first points since returning with 'Birds', another Real Lies stunner

Elsewhere, Seyetana are this months favourite discovery returning to the points for the first time in a while, closely followed by D'Yermak'er who get double figures for the second month running. Cumulonimbia and Danaeviia both score well with their third entries in a row to receive points whilst Fljotavik extend their run to 5 entries. In the middle FARC and Hendinia both score the same as last month, and both Aeroche and Terra Avium pick up points as they often do. The longest runs of receiving points from us continue as both Arcodesa (8 entries in a row) and Rolloland (7) find themselves in the top 15 once more. Varake edge out the unlucky Harmonica for the final point.

Aloha, thank you to FARC for the hosting this month (and Aeroche for the assistance), here are the final votes from Persephonia

We're happy to finally be giving an 18, surprisingly for the first time ever, to Cumulonimbia with an absolutely lovely electronic song (with a bit of an Alicia Keys flavour as I embarrassingly don't think I'd have noticed if it wasn't pointed out during the listenthroughs). With this they have now received one each of our gold, silver and bronze positions in BJSC finals (their previous best being the 15 points for Kevin Abstract in BJSC 98) which again feels like a lot less than such a consistently enjoyable country deserves, but it seems they do just have a frequent habit of finishing somewhere between 4th and 6th for us. It's an all electronic top 3 completed by a couple of countries who are a bit more used to being this high up our votes - 15 going to another excellent Sewerslvt entry from Séyetana (it's not quiiite as transcendental as 'Pretty Cvnt' but that was one of our fave entries of 2020 so a high bar) and 13 to Jadakissnia serving an entrancing fever dream of an entry which brings similar vibes to an all-time fave BJSC discovery 'Aura' by Team Rockit. This is Séyetana's first appearance in our final votes since clipping. likewise picked up 15 points in BJSC 123, though they've had other entries we would have voted for that DNQed since including of course the other Sewerslvt entry. Their medal tally now increases to 2 golds, 5 silvers and 1 bronze, while Jadakissnia just keep padding their medal stats now up to 8 18s, 9 15s and 8 13s (this is surprisingly actually their first time in our top 3 this year so far though, does not feel like it's been that long x). FSR Rontvia were just ahead of Jadakissnia in our 13 point slot last month, and the roles are reversed this month as they pick up 12 points this time with their Baz Luhrmann-esque spoken word number. The top 5 is rounded out by Arcodesia with this month's post-rock jam landing 11 points, their highest points from us since getting our full 18 with God Is An Astronaut in BJSC 118.

Finally picking up points from us for the first time ever are Sovarasma, doing so pretty emphatically with their hyperpop banger receiving our 10 points this month (and it wasn't far off getting even more than that, very close between our 12 through 10 pointers this month). 9 points go to Danæviia with a Franky Wah esque song that's better than most actual Franky Wah songs, while 8 points go to Zanmatony with a retro hit (new to us) with shades of Fatboy Slim, this marking their first points from us since their unbanning, with their last (and only previous) appearance in our votes being 13 points to Paradisio in BJSC 97. More spoken word shows up in our 7 points to #00274E, which is marginally the lowest points we've given to Real Lies over their many appearances in the contest although all 5 of them have been pretty remarkably consistent in landing somewhere between 7 and 12 points. Completing the top 10 with 6 points is a big grower from Land of DW which is very Paul Kalkbrenner by numbers but a winning formula is a winning formula and it just got more and more entrancing with each listen.

Also proving to be a strong grower was Aeroche's trance offering who land in our 5 point slot. 4 points go to the gloomy but enthralling Terra Avium. 3 points go to our hosts FARC who have now made our votes in 3 out of 5 contests so far this year and match their result from last month. Our votes are rounded out by two countries getting points from us for the first time in at least 2 years: 2 points go to Aesthetica with our now unironically enjoyable new hyperpop queen which gives Aesthetica their first appearance in our votes since we gave one point to Slayyyter in BJSC 115 (their last better result was 10 points to The Pom-Poms in BJSC 109), and... we greatly surprise ourselves by ultimately giving into the forces of beige playlist filler pop as St. Burbia's entries continue to recently consistently prove to be growers/earworms and at last that actually pays off for them albeit only to the tune of 1 point; nonetheless that is their first appearance in our votes since a 3 pointer to The New Respects in BJSC 113.

Mixed feelings about the position of Holding On Too Long, it's my favourite entry of mine for quite some time so was hoping it may scrape top 10 if I'm honest but at least it managed to (just) stay top 20.

Honestly did expect the flop but didn't expect to see those who would end up being huge fans (wow @ Cumulonimbia and numbers points for this type of song!) so thanks to those who did like it I'm disappointed to see Lookylion, Mulgracia and Danæviia so low though!

Big congratulations again Jake and thanks for the great hosting, nice to see our two hosts as the top two! I don’t feel like this win was ever in much doubt, it just sounded massive immediately.

Another really good top ten, far from being pop dominated in the end in that top five! Some brilliant pop songs in the bottom half of the top ten though along with ourselves - very happy to get that second consecutive top ten and third of the year so soon into the year! Many thanks to all the voters!

My faves all lined up between 16-20, which was the same thing that happened at Eurovision, so I’m sorry for the kiss of death as a couple of those were expected to do much better! Still all hits though at least <3

There are a few leaderboard corrections incoming - some good news coming for Cody and Chez, and not so much for Joseph and Sam. (A few other people's points are a few out as well but doesn't affect a lot else - the order of the top 10 is correct but knock off a point or three for Séyetana, Mosquetania and Bøtanikkä)

Well done Jake on winning again. Voting after midnight won't have made any difference to the score obviously. Also please to see Seyetana, Cumulonimbia, Rontiva in the top 10 and East Rukahavian, , Rolloland, UVland and Sovarasma top 20 <3 some awesome discoveries this month and awks at Mulgracia being my 12 in the semi and then ending up 21 in my final rank :'( (I still liked it just got overshadowed by a load of other tracks obviously and being nearer the end).

Congrats to FARC for completing that rare back-to-back win so convincingly! Fantastic to see Aeroche and Séyetana finishing in the top three, and also yay for all of the top five being songs I voted for, great results!

And I'm really happy with 12th place in the end, that's the highest position we've been in all night and what a perfect time for that to happen. Thanks so much to everyone who voted for Insomnia (especially the nine of you that put it in your top three, glad you loved it too!), pleased that it's delivered our third highest finish in the contest to date!

Right now the audit is complete ~

Ofc as was clear for a while there was no real competition for the win here, it's another one I voted for anyway (the same number of points I gave Jake's last winner and all) which is all I can really hope for! FARC becoming the 5th country to get back-to-back wins, nearly 6 years after Aquafina becoming the fourth and 9 years after Aeroche became the 3rd (Mdiče and FSR Rontvia being the first two to do it in the earlier days of the contest).

That is a really strong top 5 all around (voted for 4/5 and the other was a commiseration), and extremely close in the end for the other medal positions! Absolutely fantastic to see both Sewerslvt and Daniel Bortz getting top 5 positions and a medal for the former, my two biggest niche faves coming through and congrats to Varakë on a long awaited second top 10 hit and new peak! Pleased to see Holland-Oats finally getting their first top 10 too (it was only a mid table for me so sorry if my 'hype' post for it was misleading but clearly there were still enough people who did like it more than me ) and Self Esteem creeping into the top 10 as well making it 3 of my top 6. Arcodesia and Sovarasma also making the top 15 for 5/6 (a very well deserved new peak for the latter) just leaving poor brave Jadakissnia stranded in the lower half of the leaderboard out of those niche faves, still 26th isn't too terrible I suppose!

Also great to see East Rukahavian deservedly getting their biggest hit for a while (happy that a risk paid off there) and #00274E ending up with a decent result after the slow start. Don't think there's anything that massively underperformed my expectations this month, would have liked to see Zanmatony/Danæviia/Terra Avium a bit higher but I didn't really expect any of those to be huge contenders anyway. Always good to see everyone managing to clear the 100 points mark (2 months in a row now!)

Happy to have secured my second top 20 finish of the year - nearly exactly replicating House Of Harm with the same number of points and finishing only one place lower. Thanks to all who voted for gupi, especially Iz again for the 18 as those have proved hard to come by for me this year so far. Argh at the semi-final results though - me finishing 2nd in the semi and tied with the leader I guess the 16th place in the final is a little underwhelming with that knowledge but still I'll take it the results from semi 2 are a little whacky in general with Rolloland and Tartford also having big regressions while Varakë and New Lexico made big improvements!

Thanks to Jake (and Leww) for the hosting <3 and now time for us to all have a little break from the main contest until July, but stay tuned for the long-awaited return of a certain other contest in the mean time ~

Ah that's better, avoiding the bottom 5 woop I suppose you can call that a result, I wasn't expecting a big hit here (and indeed I was lucky to get out of that semi as expected!), I just really wanted to show them to others as they are a very underrated band with such a unique, cinematic style yet almost all their songs have less than 10,000 views. Very pleased it had a positive impact on a lot of you too even if a lot of them were trickle votes

That's a fantastic top 3, I voted for all of them and my 18 is in there which is wonderful. Junko Still Loves You is easily my favourite Seyetana entry since...the last Sewerslvt entry, yeah I definitely need to check them out more x Cumulonimbia and FSR Rontvia in the top 10 is great to see as is Persephonia and Rolloland in the top 20. Would've liked to see Jadakissnia, Zanmatony and Land of DW higher, but I suppose it's still decent. Also, I see Arcodesia matching my position of 12th with their post rock entry, the consistency for that genre

Aww, was hoping to get my first top 30 of the year, but I can't complain when I didn't expect to make the final in the first place. Thanks to any fans I didn't thank yet (and again to Tartford, turns out that's the first 18 we've received in almost a year!). Some great results beyond that, pleased to have voted for 7 of the top 10! A bit disappointed that Hushkanukia and Kylienips fell so far from the top 10 </3

ey wait what the hell I wasn't expecting it to go THIS good

I was enjoying a small bit of hype (no odds thread mentions really, surprise smash!) but I never truly thought it would do that well. And so many high points from people that I hadn't called, seriously, thank you everyone, that was really fun to follow and getting an unexpected medal position out of it has really far exceeded my expectations for this entry Justice well and truly served, I'd almost forgotten how good it feels to have a smash.

congratulations Jake, and thanks for hosting so well, I suppose it really was a wide-appealing song, I really enjoyed it though, so great winner. Also great to see Cumulonimbia, New Lexico and FSR Rontvia also in the top 10, and my top 2 in Arcodesia and Persephonia doing well in the top 20, nice results.

Fun stat: 'Boy Like A Girl' has smashed the record for the most voted song in the contest's history with 47 votes! The previous record holder was Highasakite's 'Golden Ticket' with 45 votes and that was in BJSC 100 which naturally had a somewhat inflated number of voters for everyone due to the incomparable participation numbers for the contest - excluding that, the next best to date was 44 votes which was achieved by both The Naked And Famous' 'Higher' and... one of FARC's own previous winners, Salt Ashes' 'Save It'.

The gap between the two most voted for songs is also a new record - this month's second most voted for song (Varakë) had 35 votes for a gap of 12, the previous record (if I've jigged with my spreadsheet correctly) was a gap of 11 in BJSC 71 (35 votes for Altyr Muunilinst to 24 votes each for FSR Rontvia & Ramrynia).

There were 64 votes in total so, excluding FARC themselves, there were just 16 countries who did not vote for Stockholm Noir

btw thank you guys so much for 2nd and for 1st in the semi! unlike everyone else who maybe didn't have it on their radar, i felt extremely confident in this one so i'm glad the nicheness paid off! it was quite entertaining/nervy to see people underpredict it especially knowing how i felt / what i knew about it in the semis! well done jakeybb, a STORMER of a song.
